    I’m here at the 2023 Paris Airshow. After 4 long years, the industry has once again descended onto le Bourget - this Mecca of commercial aviation. Boeing, Airbus, Embraer, and others have pulled out all the stops, showing off their latest and greatest innovations, and most importantly selling a boatload of planes. I’ve been here capturing it all, and in the coming days, I’ll be releasing all of that juicy behind-the-scenes footage that I know you love. But before I do, I have to uphold what’s become a bit of a tradition - I’ve got to tell you who came out of the show a winner, and who came out a loser. So, who are the winners and losers of the 2023 Paris Airshow? Let me explain…

    I think Boeing is under the most pressure with the max 10. Because everyone knows about how the max planes had to be grounded in the United States after the 2 accidents. If the Max 10 receives delays or the max 10 has an unfortunate accident that involves the plane itself and not crew error, Boeing is going to be in a real world of hurt. It surprises me still that delta decided to go with the max 10 instead of Airbus because Delta has been more gearing towards airbus more for its widebody planes than Boeing. But if something happens to the max 10, I could easily see Delta going to airbus and switching the order for more neo planes instead

    • @nickolliver3021
      @nickolliver3021 10 месяцев назад +14

      Boeing won't be in much hurt. People are still acting like it's 2021/20. It's not. We should have moved on from this. Delta should not see anything bad happen to the max 10. Certification is going well and is still slated for next year. They may not go for more neos but would be good if they had more of the 10 and 321neo.

    I am the machinist who machined the fuselage turning fixture for the 777 when I worked for Brown and Brown machine shop. I also machined the fixture for the wings. I took particular care when doing these parts to make them an order of magnitude closer tolerance than the design specified. I applied some additional techniques to make them the best that could be made. I can't be sure what my contribution to the history of the 777 was but it does have a remarkable history notably its fuselage length, its sales record, and particularly its safety record. Longest fuselage. Most popular model plane ever made. 2200 sold, 1600 delivered. With all those planes flying 27 years without a mass fatality crash. (except for one at 19 years shot down by the Russians which don't count). Current world record holder by 17 years over the Airbus A-380. An order of magnitude longer than the 707 at 2 1/2 years to its first crash, 2 1/2 years to the first crash of the De Haviland Comet, 4 years for the 747, 8 years for the DC 10, and 8 months for the Lockheed L-1011.

    • @mrvwbug4423
      @mrvwbug4423 8 месяцев назад

      Mainly because the 787 is basically the newest aircraft on the market in terms of new types, The A350 was of course developed around the same time but Airbus opted to stick with more tried and tested tech, likely spurred by the early teething pains of the 787. The MAX, and all the NEOs are updates of existing designs, so massive changes like dimming glass and bleedless would make it much harder and more expensive to get them certified, and delay production

If they want to overcome a capacity crunch in a short space of time, 777x might not be the best solution because the deliveries are not going to be soon. If you have to bend over that heavily to fabricate a "loose" for Airbus, I'd say all is well in Europe :D And no, I am not a fan of the 10 abreast setup at all. But I think it has nothing to do with Airbus. It rather is up to us consumers to let the carriers know how we feel about those. Prices are too high right now anyways and before long, carriers will notice.
    Concerning the 777X - yeah, well, the obvious widebody in the room (muharharhar) is the fact that with a Boing airliner these days, you never know when or if it will actually come. And chances are, that it won't fit the business model when it arrives. Carriers moved away from jumbos for a reason. Reusing them in a pinch, ok that simply is common sense. Investing in a fleet of new ones...that would be unwise. Honstly, I have no idea what Boeing was thinking with this plane. Then again, I do not understand most of what they do nowadays.

    In my experience Airbus planes were more comfortable than Boeings. I had a nightmarishly cramped flight on an LTE 767 on the one windiow seat with NO WINDOW owing to the dense configuration. A fellow passenger on the seat beside me was 6'2" and had to bend his legs sideways because he had practically no legroom... In contrast the Airbus seats were all more comfortable and had more leg-room. So I'm rooting for Airbus and Philippine Airlines, as a Filipino myself. You are right, as far as Filipino passengers are concerned, if they can save money for their frequent family- and work-related trips abroad, they will be happy to spend 17 hours in a 10 abreast configuration. Non-Filipinos, not so much, but the overwhelming majority of pax transposted by Philippine Airlines is Filipino. Mabuhay!

    Air Caraibes already adopted 10 abreast A350 and yet no complains from passengers or bloggers. Yes, they operate half the distance, but passengers will adopt. Especially with Airbus widened cabin they’ll take some space from the aisle and together with extra 4 inches of the cabin no major discomfort to be expected. Also, it will take time until others will consider adopting 10 abreast, even some 777s are still 3-3-3.

Delta can pull it off because the Delta One suites are a marvel of packaging efficiency allowing them to have more premium seats than other carriers.

    Too many don't understand basic economics and mistake order success as a vote of confidence in their particular favourites (and then use other metrics to prove the same as their needs and prejudices must.)
    But the reality is that while as a passenger I prefer the A320 over the 737, and believe that the A320 series has a future wheras the MAX probably cannot be viably developed any further, they are more similar than fans of each are prepared to accept.
    While many will argue constanty about the MAX v NEO, the truth is that both are significantly cheaper to operate than either the NG, or CEO.
    If faced with replacing the previous generation aircraft with the slightly better fit in 5 years, or the second choice much sooner, possibly by 2-3 years, what do you do? Especially if you can lease and return should circumstances change.
    When you have competition so closely matched, the size of your order book may be the deciding factor between winning or losing that order.
    So ironically, the more successful you are in filling your order book, the harder you make it for yourself to replicate that success.
    Obviously, a complex matrix of factors is involved. I am only suggesting that what is available and the timing component, is too often overlooked when drawing conclusions.

    As always, interesting comparisons. I became a million miler on American 15 years ago. One thing I always noticed was that the Airbus planes would rattle more than Boeing on take off and landing. The other one was that Airbus did not have as good of cabin pressure. American screwed me over trying to zonk me for $3000 to change my date of travel due to emergency eye surgery in Rio. The doc did not explain to me about a bubble inserted in my eye, which had it popped mid-air would have had me screaming and the plane being forced to land. That came from my American doc. My cornea had ripped and my iris was tearing and leaking out of my eye. I still have many AAdvantage miles to spend but have absolutely no loyalty whatsoever to AA.
