    I've wanted to comment on your videos Robert and Lizette so many times. They are of great quality in a lot of ways. One of them is introducing me to the music of Paul Black which is really good. I also enjoy how much your videos comfort and bring joy to those who either have driven the same highways or perhaps haven't but nonetheless it embarks them on a great journey of imagination. And that's awesome. There aren't too many things that evoke such enthusiastic moments of remembrance anymore. But these do. So thank you for that. I traveled this highway in August of 2012. Unbelievable lifetime experience. My wife was soooo gracious enough to let me go and do it by myself. I'm from Pennsylvania and I left our house at 6:38 in the morning, August 7th. I was gone for 35 days. I tented 28 of those days and put on 10,061 miles. I'm a very active, soon to be 69 year old man, and I tell you there isn't anything, I've ever done before, that compares to the joy and wonder of that trip. And lastly, I wish I could comment on all the really, really, kind things that many an ordinary American had done for me along the way. I must share this one experience. Truly remarkable. On my way back home I left Merriman, Nebraska and was going to make camp somewhere below Hyannis, Nebraska. I did everything by the seat of my pants .....as they say. Once I entered Hyannis, I stopped at the local Sinclair gas station. I loved talking to the local people. Well, while I was inside the gas station I was talking to a younger man by the last name of Wentz. Along the way in our conversation he asked where I was headed and I told him I was going to check out a State Park down a ways in order to set up my tent. Wentz said to me...."If you want to, you can set up your tent in our pavilion next to the Legion Hall." I said ...."Really?" And he said yeah, that I could and he furthermore said they were having their VA meeting that night at the hall. I said that I was a VA and that I would attend the meeting as well. I , of course thanked him for his kindness of providing me the pavilion for an overnight's stay. By the way, it was an open-air pavilion. So that night I attended the VA meeting and here it actually was a committee meeting and not an open meeting for all vets. Anyway, after the meeting was over I got up to go outdoors to the pavilion. Wentz said to me...."Where are you going?" I said, ...."Well, the meeting is over so I just thought I would leave and go to the pavilion!" Wentz replied......"No, don't go yet the women are making our supper. So don't leave." I said I didn't expect such a thing as that and that it isn't necessary but Wentz said that it was perfectly alright and that I should stay. "Alright," I said, "thank you very much!" So we all had a great meal. Again, after the meal was over I got up to leave and Wentz ONCE AGAIN, said......"Where are you going?" I gave the same surprised reply. Wentz then said once again........."NO, STAY! THE WOMEN ARE PACKING YOU A LUNCH FOR TOMORROW !!!!" I KID YOU NOT. I couldn't believe it. Unbelievable. I thanked them many times over. What a tremendously, treasured memory of just one of the numerous things that my fellow Americans had done for me. I truly am honored to be so blessed by such kindness you have no idea. And when I returned home I wrote them a letter once again thanking them for providing me with such a profound experience. The LORD really blessed me with many such examples on that trip, which I will NEVER FORGET. So once again thank you Robert and Lizette for the REMINDER of the vast countryside and the joy it brought to my heart. God Bless!

      Levi, I am so happy that you chose to finally comment. We always like to hear comments such as yours, it is so nice to hear when we are able to touch someone in a deeper and meaningful way.
      We agree with you on how kind and good hearted so many Americans are as we meet them in our travels, and although we have never met your friend Wentz, I am pretty sure we have met cousins of his at different points along our trips. Proof that the big guy guides us when we let him, and sometimes even when we don't.
      Interestingly enough the first time we rode Beartooth was in August of 2012, hopefully we waved at you when we passed!
      Paul Black does some great music, we are really fortunate to have him accompany us. If you are on Facebook you can listen to more of his music at facebook.com/Paul-Black-158394535675/app/6452028673/
      Thank you for sharing some of your experiences with us, we are happy that we could stir up such great memories with our video!
      God Bless you as well, stay safe, and keep watching and commenting!

      Robert, since you said that you were on the Beartooth highway in the very same month, of the very same year, that I was, then I must ask you. There was a well maintained white school bus just before you would enter Red Lodge. And it was actually turned into an eatery believe it or not. They actually made the dinners on board the bus. I found out about it at the gas station that was right next door to it. They said the food was so good. And it not only was good but it was even better than what they said. I even ordered two whole meals because I knew I might not ever get this type of authentic Mexican meals again. Ha. Ha. On the top edge of the bus was written this.....TAQUERIA......LAS PALMITAS. And underneath it said Mexican food and there also was a scene painted next to that which depicted palm trees and a beach. Do you by any chance recall that and if you do , did you happen to eat there? I couldn't believe when you replied that you were there at the very same time so I had to go downstairs to my LARGE photo album from that trip and look up the pictures that I KNEW I had taken of the bus. Ha. You and Lizette enjoy each and every road trip you take. Like my motorcycle buddy and I say or mean to say each and every time before we ride......CARPE' DIEM. Because life can change in an instant. God Bless.

    • @RobertMerz
      @RobertMerz  7 лет назад

      That sounds very familiar, but I know we did not eat there, really too bad! The kind of food you describe though is one of the things that we always seek out. Those little Mom and Pop places that often don't look like much on the outside and end up being such memorable gems! Really sorry we missed that one.
      Great memories though of similar places!
      Carpe Diem is a good motto for sure, Thank you.
      The next video, scheduled for May 12, 2017, will see us complete our Beartooth Highway journey, too bad the bus isn't there anymore, but I am sure it will bring back more memories.

    Have done roads in this area a couple times !! Surprising how cold it can get up top in mid-summer sometimes !! After the first time, we pack heated gear with us.

    • @RobertMerz
      @RobertMerz  3 года назад

      I tend to always run hot so have very seldom felt the need for heated gear, but I understand, and yes it can be quite nasty on top of the pass. The first time I went up it was really nice on the Cooke City side, and immediately past this sign I rode in wet snow about half way to Red Lodge, not fun!

      I didn't do a video, I wasn't satisfied with the footage I had, but Chief Joseph Highway is also very good. You may want to consider combining it with Beartooth and making a loop, but if you can only do one, choose Beartooth, no question!

      Beartooth is an Excellent ride! However it is not motorcycle friendly for pulling off, there are very few pullouts to stop for pics, and many of those are very steep from pavement to gravel, making it a bit easier to resist that temptation to always stop to take pictures.

    Some of the best video out there, Thanks you two,but I might add, It would be great to see more of your personal side, the places you eat,the places you stay,the side roads and sites with live comments

    • @RobertMerz
      @RobertMerz  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you for watching, and the comment. I think that I will leave my videos as they are, just a ride, and open to the viewer's interpretation, without our opinions added. There are several reasons for this: 1.) I like to offer the illusion of a bit of a virtual ride. 2.) There is already a lot going on in my videos. 3.) I am not so sure that I would be the "on air" personality that could entertain and supply information in that way. 4.) The videos would get longer, and most viewers already only watch less than half, skipping through some of the best parts, the longer the vid, the less likely the viewer is to watch it at all. 5.) I really can only do so much, timewise, both while we are shooting and later when I am editing. I already spend way too much time on these.
      All that being said I could see doing seperate videos along the line that you suggest, videos that would go along with the "ride" video, but giving commentary on our accommodations, meals, the sites, opinion pieces of a sort. The biggest obstacle is time. There just isn't enough for everything, and then working to support this part time job. However if you were able to sponsor/support us, or know someone that could, we would love to turn this into a full time job, and your suggestions would be a great direction to go. Maybe Discovery channel could help us out with a contract. I can only dream!

      I have to agree with you on this particular point, Bob. As a consummate biker and one to enjoy the beauty of the landscape, I must say that is my entire desire when watching various videos. That's what draws me into viewing the video, not where did you eat or stay. That's my take on this topic.

    • @RobertMerz
      @RobertMerz  7 лет назад

      Thanks Levi. It is a good suggestion though if I wanted to expand my channel, perhaps I would incorporate the idea into separate videos. I wish I had the time, and resources to do it. For now I just want to create something that the viewer can just get lost in for a few minutes. And Thanks Much2hunt for a good suggestion, and please continue with other suggestions that you may have, although I like what I do, I always want to be better!

      Hi Alberto. Thanks for your inquiry. I have only been riding to occasionally commute this year. After an expensive legal battle over my Mom's estate I have reached a settlement which allows me to remove my Dad's and my own property/collection but I only have until October 31 to do it. It is a rather large collection, and an 800 km return trip, so I have been too busy to ride. You can read more about what I have been up to on my Facebook page facebook.com/dryrockstudios
      I hope you have been riding for me in the meantime! Thanks, Rob

      How and where did you mount the GoPro? Riding the Beartooth first week of July 2017.

    • @RobertMerz
      @RobertMerz  7 лет назад

      I mounted my GoPro above the left handlebar. I struggled for quite sometime in making a fairly vibration free mount in a location that I felt was best for rider point of view. What I came up with is a rubber isolated mount for the GoPro with extra weight added to dampen shock and vibration.
      Here is a link to a picture on my Facebook page "Dry Rock Studios" which shows the mount I use: facebook.com/dryrockstudios/photos/a.453336891456077.1073741828.451931728263260/872346102888485/?type=3&theater
