A wonderful pair. I actually taught Kermode's film reviews this year to 17-18 year olds in Brazil as an example of how people can use a format to engage with a range of global issues. They picked extracts and compared them (for the International Baccalaureate) to a range of literary texts. Sex and the City Review against King Lear for the obsession with wealth and status as a global issue was a favourite. Thank you for the times gentlemen. Didn't agree with everything but you were always worth listening to, and we always knew it came from a genuine love of film, and a genuine love of people.

Very amusing to watch Kermode talk about a cheap rubbish horror flick - you can see how _entirely_ in his wheelhouse he is.

Ha! EXACTLY what I said about the creature on first sight. The baby from Eraserhead. Nailed it! 😄
It's clear most of its 4 million dollar budget went on the practical effects, which are decent! It's a gooey body horror movie that a select audience will enjoy. But most will hate this.
I hear the swim suits are just everything though.

It was a fairly decent movie but then I like schlocky b-movie horror flicks. I'd say the second half of the film was better
It had trippy Lynchian dream sequences, Cronenberg body horror with a little bit of Stewart Gordon in there too. The bizarre sequence with the girls writhing naked in the Alien's... I don't know what the hell it was, but it reminded me of Society. It is how Mark described it, 80s throwback if ever there was one.
If this was a Peter Bradshaw review in the Guardian, I'd immediately take this as a sign that I *must* see it. I have a feeling The Good Doctor enjoyed it more than he's letting on. 😉
To my shame and pride, I knew everyone on the 80s names Mark said.
Most things on Shudder are rubbish, so this checks out

Honestly I'm sold just from the opening description. I really really really hope Mark's going to say it's the best Eraserhead-meets-swimsuit models movie ever produced.
