Oh so sweet to find this song today, 50-some years after we first heard it on the mission field, where my mother was working as a widow with two children after losing my father in a car crash there in Africa. She had a couple young colleagues who played guitars and sang it and she immediately loved it. Later I remember singing it at boarding school. Today Mom is 89 years old, her memory is fading and she was recently hospitalized with a brain bleed but she still knows God is with her. I can't wait to play this for her.
Our Lord Jesus Christ shed His Tears, His Blood, His Life for us (IJohn3:16)on the cross of Calvary because of His love for us. Thanks for sharing us this song, it's really a great blessing.
I met Russ the bass player last weekend. One of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. He was in a still image in the Jesus revolution movie. Really awesome guy.
One of my all time song when l became a believer in 1974. Such a beautiful song and what a witness during the coffee house Jesus movement. Absolutely beautiful.
I remember being a new Christian and I went a Girl Scoit camp where we sang this around the campfire, along with some other Christian popular songs. What a different time.
Wow! I haven't heard this song in ages. This use to be one of my favorites when I was first saved. I still love it. It was so good to hear it again. Thank You!!
This was my favorite song when I first met Jesus in the early 70's. Still such a blessing. Great to read in the comments that Marsha and the rest of the group are doing well. God bless you.
I remember listening to this group back in the 1970's.I remember this song when it was first sung in my church back then and it sounds just as meaningful today as it did back then. Marsha Stevens is still a Christian who loves the Lord as far as I'm concerned and it's sad when I hear of the way some so called Christians have treated her. HATS OFF TO YOU MARSHA FROM A STRAIGHT CHRISTIAN! GOD LOVES YOU AND SO DO I! Keep doing what you are doing and don't ever change.
I have many happy memories from my early days as a new believer an this gift from Ms. Stevens has remained with me. In this Lenten season, it has greater meaning for me. I hope that after all the sorrow that Marsha may have been suffering, after coming out as a lesbian that she continues to believe that God, who began a good work in her "will bring it to a completion for the Day of Christ Jesus." (Philippians 1:6). It's for those tears he died, Marsha, as I hope you know. He has us as his own.
This is so real, so anointed, so "nonprofessional" and full of GOD's Presence because of the simply childlike love & faith toward the LORD. ... "O LORD ! REVIVE YOUR people on last time." !!!!!!!!!
This song takes me back to when I was around 10 years old, newly saved. Such amazing times back then. To be able to witness the Jesus Movement at such a young age was truly remarkable. We need another one!
I enjoy listening to this song by children day and it's one of my favorite song ok and it brings back memories of this song God bless you all very much ok
This is one of the first songs I heard when I gave my life to the Lord in 1974. We sang it often at church. How beautiful it is when the Lord takes a willing person's heart and mold it into a servants heart. The peace we receive is beyond understanding. He sets us free from our bondages and compassion for the lost.
Oh, how this song takes me back to to the youth choir at my church. This recording is the closest to sounding the way I remember when we sang it. Verse 1 You said You'd come And share all my sorrows You said You'd be there For all my tomorrows I came so close to sending You away But just like You promised You came there to stay I just had to pray Chorus And Jesus said Come to the water Stand by My side I know you are thirsty You won't be denied I felt ev'ry tear drop When in darkness you cried And I strove to remind you That for those tears I died Verse 2 Your goodness so great I can't understand And dear Lord I know That all this was planned I know You're here now And always will be Your love loosed my chains And in You I'm free But Jesus why me Verse 3 Jesus I give You My heart and my soul I know that without God I'd never be whole Savior You opened All the right doors And I thank You and praise You From earth's humble shores Take me I'm Yours
I love this. I have been saved for 8 yrs now and I think this song is wonderful. I prayed for salvation in 2001 with a RC Priest, and then made his church my church. I was then baptized and have never been the same. I found that the Charism or gifts of the spirit were mine if I wanted them and asked God to fill me and immediately began to speak in tongues. Thank you for posting this.
God wants everyone to be saved, and gives many opportunities to all people to choose the free gift of salvation, you can be saved and have some incorrect theology, ie. Roman Catholic church, and basically every other denomination for that matter, some add to biblical truth (eg. Roman Catholics) and some don't include some biblical revelation (those that don't believe in charismatic gifts for instance), so any heart prayer to God for salvation in this case will be heard and answered regardless of who "leads" it, even a non-believer can give the gospel info to someone and God will save the person that prays in light of the truth received....Hippie preacher Lonnie Frisbee, through God's work in his life, growthed two major denominations, Calvary Chapel and Vineyard movement, yet he struggled with same-sex issues, eventually died of AIDS. Paul himself had some coveting issues as a Pharisee before salvation, so whether sins seen or unseen, we all live in this fallen world and sometimes struggle with chronic human physical or psychological sins that can lead us to draw upon the grace of God, know the love of Jesus more, and understand our new nature/identity as a temple of the Holy Spirit. Can't wait to see the shocked faces of everyone as they see who is in heaven, check out Dean Braxton's NDE story and his Aunt Martha, who he thought did not qualify for heaven, in his eyes, but who was there smiling and meeting him at the gate.
And many Christians now understand scripture in an inclusive way that does not preclude queer persons from full participation in Christian community. Too bad Lonnie was abandoned by Christian leadership and shamed. And this song ripped from many song books and hymnals and mailed to Marsha. So evil!
Awesome! And Marsha sings this song just as beautifully - even with her more mature voice - as she did back then. My church had the blessed privilege of having Marsha do a concert for us, just last summer. She was fabulous, and looks great. It's even more awesome to see her actually performing with her group of orgin -- Children of the Day.
Such a beautiful rendition of this comforting song written by Marsha Stevens. Today especially it has ministered to me as I have family discord. Your prayers for me and my family are most welcome, thankyoy
Pick up a vinyl copy of Children of the Day, at a consignment store here in Newton, KS today, cleaned it , played it , did a little research on it , has John Mehler on drums, and Karen Lafferty guitar and others. 2nd album. "With all our Love", 1973, "An outreach of Calvery Chapel". So I found this video, and the song , "For Those Tears I Died". Remembered singing it at the Good News Store Christian Coffee Hause in Hanau, Germany in 1980. It always carries the anointing of the Spirit of God.
I heard this song at church growing up.......it always spoke to my heart.....hearing it nearly brings me to tears.....thank you for posting and Praise Jesus forever!
I remember way back in the day, these kids performed at my Christian high school in one of our chapels. Though I don't recall much, I just remember 2 guys, 2 gals and a few acoustic guitars. Thier music still blesses me!
MARSHA,YOU ARE LUCKY TO BE ALIVE WITH ALL OF THE PERSECUTION YOU HAVE FACED. WHEN THE CHURCH DOES NOT CARE IF THEY KILL YOU, SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE CHURCH. I LOVE YOU MY SISTER AND I AM PRAYING FOR YOU! THANK YOU FOR THIS BEAUTIFUL SONG AND THE ANOINTING YOU POSESS! REV. KATHRYN VARNELL
This was one of the songs you sang at a concert for Harvest in Riverside, CA in the early 70s. It was when God spoke to me and I accepted His invitation. That was the night that changed my life forever. Thank you for your ministry. I have been looking for another of your songs, "Be He Still." It's hard to find, but the haunting melody has stuck with me all these years. is there a you tube video for that?
I remember my older siblings listening to this in the early 70's Looked for so long to find this version until I found it a few years ago. Thank you so much for posting this.
I remember the era very well. How could something once so new and fresh turn stale in the soul? Youth easily engage the cosmic drama of the Maker in search of his lost creation. Feeling lost is what being youthful is mostly about. Believing one's self "found" is a young person's highest joy. Such was the experience of kids into Jesus, Krishna, Guru Maharaji, Moon, you name it. Drugs enhanced the awareness of something more, and many were the offerings to satisfy it. Each claiming to be unique.
l wonder if you remember playing a little concert for some developmentally disabled youngsters at Porterville State Hospital, the about 1971-72? You blessed us all God bless you,Baruch HaShem Adonai Elohim Yeshua HaMaschiach

@theminimumdog I got saved in 1972 at the age of 21. I listened to this song and Love Song was my favorite Christian band. I have very fond memories of the "Jesus movement" and Jesus music.
I used to listen to every song Children of the Day recorded during my time in the Navy floating off the Vietnamese coast during the final years of the war. they were a real source of comfort for me and the guys that listened with me. Whatever happened to the group? Are they still around? God blessed them to touch my heart AMEN!!!
they broke up because some of the people in the group pasted away. her brother told her that. my mom used to listen to them all the time and her brother did to.
If you're reading this, Marsha, your song moved me deeply many years ago when I was only 16. And I have so much respect that you had the courage to come out, be who God made you to be, and continue to serve the Lord. God bless you.
Peter Jacobs (the guitarist in this video), went on to record the Colby’s Clubhouse TV series as well as produce several Colby the Computer albums as well. He and his wife also were the founders of the original HeartSong group comprised of high school aged teens. All was done from 1984-2000. Now, he has two bands. Also still writes religious music.
I remember how children of the day would sing in schools, churches they influenced si many teens that Jesus wiuld live them. Marshas song This song was noted as a sing that came from her geart siul and was given by the Holy Spirit. Its still sung in churches . By the way marsha was a fruend if a house mither in corona caluf. I met her several times and was si honired , very emoathetuc caring oerson. She was real
BEAUTIFUL!! I WAS THERE DURING THE SO. CAL. REVIVAL AT CALVARY CHAPEL AND IN HOLLYWOOD AND ALL OVER THE AREA. IT WAS WONDERFUL. MAY 8 1970 THAT WAS MY DAY AT CALVARY. LOVE SONG WAS SINGING THAT NIGHT. I THINK I HAD SEEN MARSHA ON TBN WAS THAT RIGHT? KEEP IN TOUCH. WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU GUYS. SEEN YOU A NUMBER OF TIMES AT CALVARY AND OTHER PLACES IN THOSE DAYS. HAVE TALKED TO YOU ALL PERSONALLY IN THE EARILY 70'S. LOVE YA BRO DOUG
The audio is wonderful, the mix is perfect, but I wish the video were higher quality. But this is a beautiful rendition of the song. What a sweet song. Thank you, Marsha.
@larrycurllymoe Yes, I remember this group as well! I went to CC as well in the early 70's. I cried listening to this, and to Love Song, wow, it's where it all started and I am remembering those days with tears, Jesus was more real to me then and to this day even more. I miss Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, God bless brother!
Beautiful song. So thankful to Martha Stevens-Pino for writing it. Im glad that it still exists for people to fund, despite being suppressed because the writer is a lesbian.
What's interesting is that the writer of this song, Marsha Stevens later confessed to being a lesbian. She was essentially shunned from the industry and started the "Born Again Lesbian Music" ministry.
So many ugly comments from self-proclaimed Christians. How can anybody who loves Jesus be so rude and arrogant? Just listen to the song and try being kind for a change.
+Turtle Jeeps The plain and simple truth is that anybody who loves Jesus would not be so rude and arrogant. Rudeness and arrogance are not listed among the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians. The nasty remarks come from a dark place, and from a much darker spirit than that of Jesus.
Apostates. Revelation 18:8 is upon us. 2Thess2:3 is upon us. The apostate church of greed & bigotry now have lifted up the #TrumpAbomination. Desolation coming. #ApostasyNow
Maybe so, but remember that a sin can be forgiven and that does not mean another divorce. However, If one is a practicing homosexual they must be saved and change their ways. It is impossible to be in Christ and in sin! Love to you in Jesus Talitim
Your theology is sadly twisted. You don't seem to actually believe in the saving Grace of Jesus Christ; you still cling to the old Jewish law thinking that we must save ourselves by our own works -- which is impossible. When you condemn someone in one breath and in the next say, "love to you in Jesus," that is scary hypocritical. You're paying lip service to Christianity. When the apostle Paul enumerated the Fruit of the Spirit in his letter to the Galatians he said that they are love, joy, peace, forbearance, et.al. he did not mention judgment or condemnation of others as evidence of one who is supposedly Christ-like. It's your old human, fleshly prejudices speaking, not the Holy Spirit.
@bbbutler3 It's only the practice God doesn't like, there is a gift of singleness for those who seek to honour God when they are different. Praying that for Marsha and all those who struggle
Let me as a minister clear this up about you all calling my precious friend a pervert. God does not expect a lesbian to sit in a dark closet and die. I have researched a whole lot on gay people and I was one of the few who was re created to straight. But all of my life, I had an attraction to women...I am convinced that I was born again and would have gone to Heaven. God changed my orientation because a man has prayed for this and I am waiting on him.
Many songs are pretty but does that make the life style right. Many people trust in feelings alone. Imagine is pretty but it's the theme song for the god haters. We are the champions by Queen is pretty but it's the theme song for the gay movement. Right is still right and wrong is still wrong. The Bible does not say thou shalt not brake street lights out but it has principles in which we should not brake the lights out. The world hates the Bible and uses it to try and make a point, remember the devil used the bible
@@Batman3231852051 You're going to hell for judging. According to Paul, "There is none righteous, no, not one." Contrary to your apparent superior of yourself, you are not perfect... merely forgiven like every other Christian. Yet there you are, doing exactly what Christ commanded you to not do: Casting stones although you are not without sin yourself. Humble yourself and repent of your judgmentalism and arrogance.
@@pmarengo21 after They dropped their stones one by one , Jesus turned to the woman and said “ where are your accusers”? She was sorrowful (repentant) then he said “go and sin no more”!
I recall this song at someone's house as a young Christian and it touched me
deeply

❤️ Thank you for the beautiful testimony!
I first heard this song in a gospel film "Something to Live for" in 1985. Then searched for it for 35 years until finally I got in internet ♥️
I have always liked Marsha Stevens music, but she has become one of my heroes. What a brave woman.
Our Lord Jesus Christ shed His Tears, His Blood, His Life for us (IJohn3:16)on the cross of Calvary because of His love for us. Thanks for sharing us this song, it's really a great blessing.
i wish I pray the world could have music like this again
I just love this song ! When I was a lot younger, I was in a local Christian band and we sang this song. WOW
That was a kindler, gentler America--I loved Maranatha, Lamb, Keith Green, Phil Keaggy, Daniel Amos, 2d Chapter of Acts, Evie, etc...
lifevorce ... MAN! You just named my on-cassette-playlist from my teen years! I loved these singers. Gotta go and build a RUclips playlist for them.
@lifevorce... Wonderful!
And they all sincerely loved Jesus.
P.s. Would not have made the statement has someone else's name been on the list.
We have the same testimony on this.
Me as well, July of ‘74! ❤❤❤
I remember being a new Christian and I went a Girl Scoit camp where we sang this around the campfire, along with some other Christian popular songs. What a different time.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
She's beautiful to me... and Jesus. How wonderful that he sees us with perfect eyes.
Grateful to listen to this song again, touches the inner most chambers of my heart!
Wow! I haven't heard this song in ages. This use to be one of my favorites when I was first saved. I still love it. It was so good to hear it again. Thank You!!

Oh, how this song takes me back to to the youth choir at my church. This recording is the closest to sounding the way I remember when we sang it.
Verse 1
You said You'd come
And share all my sorrows
You said You'd be there
For all my tomorrows
I came so close to sending You away
But just like You promised
You came there to stay
I just had to pray
Chorus
And Jesus said
Come to the water
Stand by My side
I know you are thirsty
You won't be denied
I felt ev'ry tear drop
When in darkness you cried
And I strove to remind you
That for those tears I died
Verse 2
Your goodness so great
I can't understand
And dear Lord I know
That all this was planned
I know You're here now
And always will be
Your love loosed my chains
And in You I'm free
But Jesus why me
Verse 3
Jesus I give You
My heart and my soul
I know that without God
I'd never be whole
Savior You opened
All the right doors
And I thank You and praise You
From earth's humble shores
Take me I'm Yours
A few memories here. If people cannot hear God through Marsha' as she sang then or as she is today, they have missed the point if the gospel.

This is a beautiful song God bless you Mrs. Stevens.
One of my all-time favorites. Learned to play the guitar with this song.
I miss the anointing that was on the Christian music in the 70's and 80's

He and his wife also were the founders of the original HeartSong group comprised of high school aged teens. All was done from 1984-2000. Now, he has two bands. Also still writes religious music.
This is from the first album I bought in 1974. I attended Faith Center in Eugene, Oregon while in high school.
It's not about us. It's about Him. Thanks for posting.

I saw them at Calvary Chapel in Napa, California in 1978! They sang this song at that concert too.
Hi,how are you doing?

The audio is wonderful, the mix is perfect, but I wish the video were higher quality. But this is a beautiful rendition of the song. What a sweet song. Thank you, Marsha.

@larrycurllymoe
Yes, I remember this group as well! I went to CC as well in the early 70's. I cried listening to this, and to Love Song, wow, it's where it all started and I am remembering those days with tears, Jesus was more real to me then and to this day even more. I miss Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, God bless brother!
Hi,how are you doing?
The year was 1971-72, you had played at a Christian coffeehouse"The Ark".Again thanks
Beautiful song. So thankful to Martha Stevens-Pino for writing it. Im glad that it still exists for people to fund, despite being suppressed because the writer is a lesbian.
What's interesting is that the writer of this song, Marsha Stevens later confessed to being a lesbian. She was essentially shunned from the industry and started the "Born Again Lesbian Music" ministry.
this is as I knew them as my friends at Azusa pacific Univ
great song!
I and my brothers were there too!
Wow I didn't know a copy of this existed. I remember this group. The visited a church I attended in Montebello Ca. 1973. Thanks for posting this.
@Guillermo Guzman Nah, it's not.
Apostates. Revelation 18:8 is upon us. 2Thess2:3 is upon us. The apostate church of greed & bigotry now have lifted up the #TrumpAbomination. Desolation coming. #ApostasyNow
i love it very classic
Hi,how are you doing?
I have all the old cassettes, old, somewhat scratchy, but beloved
my mom seen them at a consert at calvery costamasa, ca and my mom said they were great.
Maybe so, but remember that a sin can be forgiven and that does not mean another divorce. However, If one is a practicing homosexual they must be saved and change their ways. It is impossible to be in Christ and in sin! Love to you in Jesus
Talitim
Yes, well actually she became drop-dead gorgeous as soon as she grew up :-) She's just a cute child in this vid.
Hi,how are you doing?
"Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!"
👍👍😍✝️
I went to college with them at APC
I wouldn't say ugly ... just the 70's. No question about the voice though.
@bbbutler3 It's only the practice God doesn't like, there is a gift of singleness for those who seek to honour God when they are different. Praying that for Marsha and all those who struggle
Amen
Hi,how are you doing?
You are not a minister of God or the holy scriptures. You are a minister for lesbians!
@@pmarengo21 after They dropped their stones one by one , Jesus turned to the woman and said “ where are your accusers”? She was sorrowful (repentant) then he said “go and sin no more”!
Hang up your hang ups and enjoy the ride....lol
