I dont usually comment; but seriously? This is THE most straight forward explanation I've seen. SO easy to follow because I'm a visual learner. I feel like I'm actually there watching! I opened 5 other tabs to watch but dont even think I will! Because this one is awesome, makes me want to have a go. Favorited!
Jemma, I can’t thank you enough! I used your buttercream icing video and this video to make my daughter’s cupcakes for her birthday party tomorrow and I can honestly say I have never had cupcakes come out so beautiful before! She is having a mermaid birthday party, so she watched your piping video with me and chose this design with the 6mm circle tip. We are both so pleased! I have always had trouble getting the frosting just right, and because of that, I never could get it to come out right while decorating. Thank you So Much!!
Normal people read before they go to bed well I watch cake videos. Its an old video but its a great one on my playlist I watch before I go to bed. not kidding! !!
This is the video that got me hooked on cupcake Jemma!! I was throwing a baby shower for my daughter having my first grandbaby and I wanted to make cupcakes! I watched this video and learned how to pipe like a pro! Everyone was so impressed and I've gotten so much better since!! I love all the recipes and so do my friends and family!! Yum yum!!! Yes I bought your book Jemma!!!!!
just takes some practice. I do alot of baking at home for charity. I can crank out 6000 cookies in one night, my friends, are amazed.. I just tell them it didn't start that way, but now I have a system... same with piping, you get into a groove and with practice you develop a system...
my piping looks like a 3 year old did it. aaaaaaaah but with her teaching me i can do this. i want to make a cake now. and give it a go again. see what kind of mess or not i can do lol.
Jemma- just started a baking course in Toronto & loving it! Since discovering you, I have been so inspired. Your tutorials are by far among the best for clarity & brevity. Although you make it look so easy, your ability to explain and demonstrate technique is exceptional! Thank you for making everything I do better!!!
Thank you so much for this video!!! I learnt so much! Yesterday I baked a cake and decorated with rose frosting. It looked so professional. Everyone who saw was in Awe. I always tried decorating with frosting but it never gave that look I was focusing for. Thanks to your tips I finally learnt the right way to frost especially rose, nozzles and the elevating swirl. The terminology you used like blob! Was so relating. I use the same wording!!!
Thank you so much for putting this up! I always wondered why my cupcakes never turned out great once I put icing on them, and now I've just realised I've been piping from the outside in and not from the inside out fml :') thanks xx
Jemma, I have watched your vids quite a lot and appreciate every one of them! And will for years to come! Thank you Sweet Lady! ~Jules from Rhode Island, USA
Thank you so much! This is the best and most helpful video I have seen. I can't believe how much of a learning curve there has been to making and piping buttercream onto cupcakes! You all make it look so easy.
Wow...you are fun to watch and so easy to follow! Thank you so very much for not rattling off numbers and letters for the tips. Showing and describing them to us is such a help, letting us then find one of ours that comes close to yours in shape and size. Wonderful instruction and guidance, yet you don't take it all too seriously! Thanks...you pulled me in! I subscribed.
I'm a complete beginner. I recently subscribed to your channel. I find you very easy to follow and so interesting to watch. My 2 young sons and I made cupcakes using your recipes today
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!! Hahaha I'm 18 and asian and BARELY bake more so just cook a lot of rice and I just baked my first batch of cupcakes ever last night!! Baking is so fun can't wait to use these tips and tricks to further my baking skills! Beautiful (:
I really love your channel because you are funny and genuinely helpful without being pretentious or annoying so thanks for the great (and helpful) content!
I love you Cupcake Jemma..! I've searched high and low for good piping tips...and nobody... I repeat nobody...goes as basic as you do.... I always attached the nozzle on the outside and struggled insanely while piping.. Thanks to you..now I should be able to practice my piping techniques! :* :*
Thank you so much for this video. I was making eight dozen cupcakes for my daughter's baby shower and no idea how to frost them. They came out so beautiful everyone thought I bought them!!! I only used the closed star tip because I thought that just looked so beautiful!!
I’ve been watching you tube videos about piping for 3 hours and this is the first one that actually explains how to put the tips in! Lol. Your hydrangea one was great for how to actually layer the icing into the bag too. Thank you for these real basics!!
This is the right tutorial... Details by details... It's like I'm in school... Though I can't afford studying baking which I love the most.. And thanks to you ma'am now I feel like I'm in School for free.... Love all your videos really inspiring 😘😍
Oooo I loved this video. I always stick to the same old nozzles and my cupcakes always look so rubbish. I would love it if you did more decoration type videos, maybe for Halloween?
Great video. My only issue with it is advocating for disposable piping bags. Particularly in 2019, we know just how destructive single use plastics are to the environment, and they aren't recyclable. The nylon ones are more durable and they aren't hard to clean.
I really enjoyed this video. Because I am starting a cake decorating course on the 9 February and this video you have shown me will help me when I do this course. Thank you for sharing this with me.
i love how quick an clear these videos are, i love baking for the process, and learning more techniques is always great, it makes giving treats to others so much more fun
Jemma, you are AMAZING. ❤️ Thank you so much, I was able to pipe beautiful buttercream onto mini cupcakes for an upcoming birthday, and the piping tips you shared made everything look so professional! Keep shining, lovely!
Wowowow I'm super impressed with your channel. Your personality and very clear and concise explanations are very gravitating and easy to understand! Makes me want to learn more and more from you, thank you for your videos!!
I am just beginning to bake as a hobby and I am thrilled to have stumbled upon your RUclips channel!! Thanks so much for all of your free tips and tricks - they rock! Also, love your tats and your accent! I hope that one day I can make it to London and visit!
She is a great teacher!!! I never piped a day in my life!! I recently made cupcakes for my sister's graduation and they were perfect!! Everyone couldn't believe I made them. I did the rose, the blob & the blob flower😁😁
Mercedes Fitch yeah but I think some people are just here for the aesthetic porn of watching the icing process (how I got here, tbh, though I watched it all)
I’ve had the best time watching these videos. It’s just the most fun I’ve had in this pandemic. Thanks for colors and sprinkles and all the joy. I am being serious. Lol.
This is such a fun video to watch. Great instructions, and I really like Jemma's friendly manner plus the names she's given her techniques. "Grandma's Swimming Cap'" Ha!
Jemma, love ya'! You make baking look so easy and matter-of-fact, which gives me more confidence..." don't get worked up about how it's gonna turn out, just do this as if you do it every day!" Guess that's why you have your own bakery! lol. It does go much easier with your direction, though, and I thank you for your guidance!
Came here for piping tips and ending up staring at Jemma's eyeliner the whole time. It's so pretty and perfect looking. I wish I was that confident to wear that shade out because it is gorgeous on her!
Lol omg you cleared up some stuff for me..my daughter got a what I now know to be a disposable piping bag, I couldn't figure out how to get the nozzles to stay in..my daughter had tried to use it before me and I taught she had got it going but she couldn't have because she cut the bag two far up ..I spent a half hour looking for whatever she used to connect the nozzles to the bag and all it is is gravity ...well there's plenty of time to get baking with the world in isolation.....lovely keep safe everyone..it's mad how everyone the world over is going through the exact same thing and having the exact same worries....
I work in a bakery and know how to hand pipe, but we do it to a larger scale (thousands of cakes daily) so we have big piping bags and fill them right up, but as there's so much cream you can't twist it to the top and squeeze from the top, instead I grab near the nozzle with my right hand, and keep the top of my bag in my left hand and do it like that. I cannot do it any other way haha
That's what I do when I'm working. We very rarely need to ice ONE cupcake! Haha! More like thousands as well. Sometimes it's so full I can't squeeze it!
CupcakeJemma can you make a video on how to make icing for birthday cakes? the sweet icing but not a butter icing. I dont know how you call that kind of icing...
I've been piping for years and regret saving time by completely filling up my bag, for now I have some wrist problems because of it. I understand the pressure of high volume, but save your wrists ladies, please!
I’m relatively new to the baking world and this video was so precise and easy to follow. It wasn’t long and boring either. Thank you for sharing !! 😁👍🏽💯

I've watched a lot of video's today to help me improve on my piping skills and this one is by far the best. Thanks for making it SO watchable, (there's some really poor versions out there) Very engaging presentation and you come across as such a lovely person. Great work and thanks very much.
Can we NOT refer to the plastic bags as "disposable" (as if we don't mind our oceans & landfills filled w/more non-biodegradable plastics)? They wash up fine & w/hot water & most folks can take a few minutes for easy clean-up. Re-use...not hard at all!
OMG... I am so happy I have found this comment, I was scrolling down hoping there will be anybody mentioning that this is such a waste... I really liked your videos Jemma but if you consider piece of dirty plastic disposable I am not sure I want to support your business anymore :((((( I try to imagine how things look like in your bakery and if you are thinking about reducing your business' impact on environment :((((
This seems like a bit of an over-reaction. Most bakery packaging is treated as disposable (cardboard covered in grease, or flimsy plastic clamshell containers) and this quantity makes a few bags look like nothing. If you look at how many pounds you buy, you realize how many pounds your clients throw away. Maybe we could call them "recyclable" instead of disposable.
Virtue signallers alert (fascists to be honest) I for one will throw my disposable piping bags in my bin not in the oceans of India or China, just an idea Space Ghost might like to emulate.
How many "disposable" PLASTIC bags are used per day in a patisserie ? There is no "throw away" in our planet, IT WILL END UP SOMEWHERE, as whales' stomach
At the particular bakery i worked at we would go through at least 4 a day and then 1 for every color we used so around 6 at least twice a week (if there is icing remaining and feeling a bit lazy we would leave it in the bag and store it away for the next use but we changed bags after 3 days of use)
I dont usually comment; but seriously? This is THE most straight forward explanation I've seen. SO easy to follow because I'm a visual learner. I feel like I'm actually there watching!

What a great video! I also love using the disposable bags but lately I've been using the nylon ones even though they are a pain to wash.
have you tried silicone reusuable drip dry able , easier to wash ?
Yes I feel r pain always trying to get into the little cracks and edge's

Semantic Samuel my thoughts exactly Samuel! Love her videos but that triggered me 😫
The plastic “disposable” piping bags are easily washable and reusable.
Yeah same l love the nylon ones l have a couple nylon ones actually. I don't like the disposable
Jemma thank you... So perfectly explained; didn't have to try an exasperated 'fast forward' anytime ! Thanks and bless!

@CupcakeJemma could you write down the nozzles and the sizes in the description box. Its just that the ones you have are perfect for classic swirls
Thank you so much. I’ve been baking for two years now properly each week and could never master the art of piping icing. Your method worked perfectly.
skip to 5:07 for the actual icing to start

Thanks for teaching us this. Your videos are simple and easy to use. You don’t go on and on like some others do. Thanks

Hi Jemma, thanks for making this video. I really needed it! You see, my teacher was coming back and me and my friends are planning a secret welcome party for him and it is my duty to make and decorate cupcakes. I am okay, but he is the best teacher ever and I really want them to be special! Thanks and thumbs up to you!
This is great. Do you have any recommendations for good cake decorating equipment stores in london? Thanks
Emily Mill Jane Asher Shop in Chelsea is good. Also Cakes4Fun in Putney. Also there are tonnes of good websites x
CupcakeJemma
Yaaay Putney
In pound land there is a Jane Asher section it is so cheap and amazing !!
I don't know if there's one in London, but there's one where I live and I live in the North-West, it's a shop called Cake Boss it's fantastic for cake and kitchen equipment! There's probably one in London too.
Jemmy i love your facial expressions so much 😍 ! You would do funny n sweet facial movements while talking n that's the cutest part of you ! Love it !! 😍
A bit late to this party but how do you fit all those cupcakes into boxes without them smushing together?
TheUrgleBurgle I'm not sure about this place, but the cupcake store I go to has little cardboard walls inside the box that make square gaps
Put them in the boxes first then pipe them once in.

Cupcake Jemma does it best.
Watched many videos.
This was my favourite.
What recipe do you use for the cupcake icing ( buttercream)?
Megan Bowles There's a link in the video x
Biter that's room temp. Mix that butter up for three mins. Add icing sugar bit by bit to that. Stir that up. Finally add 2 teaspoons of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
She has a video for it in jamie olivers food tube channel
+Megan Bowles Did you find the recipe? I don't see a link. Hmmm
+Marilyn Ingmire the video for the recipe is in the suggestion under this video but in the Jamie Oliver channel not this one the thumbnail is a cupcake with white icing & sprinkles
She is sooo good! She makes it look super easy!
