12:10 monks in DnD were originally introduced as a way of fulfilling the fantasy of Chinese martial arts movies in the game, letting you defeat enemies with your bare hands like Bruce Lee. Lots of games borrow the concept (like with the rest of DnD) and I think today people confuse the term “monk” with their preconception of a medieval Gregorian scribe, or instead of the eastern Xiao Lin monks that originally inspired the class.

@@KGH3000, I dunno, that line “there are concerns about my sugar” is also classic addict deflection, the whole “I can stop anytime I want so I’m not addicted” is an old coping mechanism for people who really can’t stop but can’t admit it to themselves because they see addiction as weakness and they can’t possibly be weak…of course, that’s a real world example but Tamriel does have a couple of examples in Oblivion (I think it’s that one), of characters that are blatantly addicted to something like skooma who try insisting they aren’t addicted while shoveling the stuff down like they’re dying; so neither scenario is completely out of the question.

For the summoning of the undead via conjuration as opposed to necromancy.
Both use powers from the realm of oblivion but with conjuraiton spells, you haven't cast the soul of a man/mer/etc into the soul cairn or oblivion just so you can reanimate it or use it, which on the other hand, necromancers do.
So it's sorta like buying meat from a supermarket as opposed to hunting it yourself, at least in my understanding.

19:27 It's exactly how you describe. Illusion works the same as Alternation, by altering the world to your will, but the "truth" is visible only by the caster and the target. You basically convince the target or nearby people that something is different that is in reality, for example you make a target think they cannot move, they cannot speak (Silence), they hear voices (Sound) or you are harder to hit (Sanctuary). Alternation physically change things recognized by anyone and is bound by laws of nature, like making things heavier is heavier for everyone. Paralysis in Skyrim being Alternation physically renders target unable to move, while being Illusion makes the target think they cannot move.

From what I can read from the wiki you can buy items without raising mercantile, but not for spells. You also gain xp from selling. Tldr: buying items is okay, selling is not.

A wonderful video :) I think mannimarco is a result of the butterfly effect, with the dragon break, acting as a catalyst, causing a time break, and a flood of reality altering events happening, all at one time, daggerfall was weird af lol

Conjuration in elder scrolls works by pulling deadra from their realm of existence (like oblivion for example) into our realm (temporarily)... Bound armour/weapon spells trap a deadra into an object temporarily...

I must correct you on Telvanni, we actually do like to work alone AND we're assholes. Less research partners means less splits to the glory and profits as well as less differing moralities to negotiate, and having peers review your studies is cringe and does not follow Veloth's teachings. No I am not fun at parties, I do not like them.

Plus the fact that videos exist offend me as Telvanni. We would definitely not allow a non-magical or incompetent sorcerer to become an archmagister. Not if you don't have power...

13:00 You said it! You actually said it. You used the word sapient! I'm flabbergasted. Thank-you for caring enough to know the meanings of the words you want to use instead of using the word 'sentient' to describe a being with human-level intellect. Much love.

On the topic of monks and healing or alteration magic in dnd. If i remember right; monks was introduced in mid-late first edition dnd was a lose combination of cleric and rogue it was at the time also somewhat connected to the mystic aesthetic. This was changed on and of in edition, but around 4th edition for monk to become psionics instead of their previous holy-esk theme. (that is if I remember right)
So if that is their inspiration it makes a least a bit more sense

17:40 an oversight from bethesda, the summoned variants of ghosts, wraiths and anything else that is normally unhittable by unenchanted, silver or daedric have a 50% resistance to normal weapons as opposed to the usual 100%. The unofficial patch for oblivion fixes this if i remember correctly.
Edit: nevermind this is what i get for pausing for video goddamnit
anyways, great video. excited and happy to hear you're trying out Tamriel Rebuilt, i probably can't watch you live on twitch but i'll definitely peep the vods.

Necromancy never made sense in TES. Everyone hates it, but you have to steal souls to enchant and recharge things. Perfectly fine.
You can learn and make spells that damage health, stamina, stats, and the like, and that is okay.
You can make and learn spells that drain health, stamina, stats, and such. All good.
All necromancy. Yet only reanimating the dead and stealing "human" souls are bad.

@@notund-a To be frank it is kind of a good question why is it considered totally fine to summon dremora and other daedra in Oblivion, when we are in the middle of the crisis involving those exact things invading Tamriel. If anything it's the Conjuration that should be banned not Necromancy :)

I think having the mages guild send you to Kvatch for a recommendation, only to find the Oblivion Gate. You closing the gate earns you the recommendation. Feels organic. Each major guild should have had a natural feeling link to the main quest. No use ranting about a very aged game
