After I experienced that and rewatched this episode a week later, I gained so much more respect for Les. I was in a city, I couldn't imagine the feelings he went through in the desert.
The worst part of heat stroke to me is the growing delirium and utter confusion. It becomes impossible to think, and if feels like dying in the sense that you can literally feel the life leave you, ultimately becoming a crushing feeling of helplessness. This was at home during a heatwave, and it was my cats that saved my life by licking/wetting my forehead and such. Gave me the strength to semi-fall down the stairs to the cellar, where I could recover in 14C down from 39C upstairs. I had memory issues for a month after.

How cool I mine at the Kalahari Desert , the Himbas have master the skills of survival in this desert for thousands of years . Now you’re thriving through here
Les is the reason I always have a survival kit in my car. 3 days of food, cooking supplies, water reserves, shovel, tent, clothes, first aid kit, .22 rifle, etc.
The tinder fire with the can also perfectly demonstrates another reason why we should NEVER leave trash behind outdoors, how easily that could have been dropped and started a fire unintentionally.
But it could save someones life if they need to start a fire 😉 Im being facetious. But really, is there anything that nature produces that you consider 'garbage', or is it only human products? Now ask yourself why you have such a low opinion of human creations as opposed to the rest of nature. Animals LOVE our 'garbage' generally...they make homes out of it and use it for warmth and gifts. That doesnt mean they dont try to eat it too...there would be more food if we didnt infringe upon their habitats and also kill life with pesticides and hunting. But my main point was that 'garbage' is subjective and generally doesnt exist in nature. Kinda the same thing with 'pollution' as well except much of that is deadly to all life so...less of an argument for defending that lol.
I watched ALL the episodes originally....JUST EXCELLENT!!! Les Stroud was out in front of all the subsequent bushman, survival guys. I'm so glad he's on RUclips.
It’s funny how our whole perspective of weather changes lol. In the desert if the sun is shining that’s a terrible thing. Thunder, rain, grey clouds? What a beautiful day!
I've read a lot of the comments and l have to say. Les took way less gear and supplies the anyone that lives in that area would of traveled with. He does this a lot. I don't drive anywhere without a kit in my car. Food, water, tools, blanket, fire and more. More in the winter. If it's a trip to the wild l have a rifle/shotgun. Les is hard-core no doubt about it.
It's not even about being better or more real. My main problem with Man vs Wild, is the fact that if you follow stuff he does on that show, it will get you injured, sick or killed. You don't go running around like crazy, climbing up and down cliffs, swinging from wines, jumping into unknown water and the lists just goes on and on. Nor do you go around eating or drinking things you have no clue about.. Being in a survival situation is bad enough, being in a survival situation with like a broken arm or a leg or sick, that can be a death sentences.
I got traumatized by man vs wild when in the middle of the desert bear Grylls scooped up a volleyball sized wet hunk of camel feces, put it over his head and squeezed out all the liquid into his mouth and all over his face in the scorching sun. Drinking the liquid. I can't imagine the feeling when it dried all over his face and neck
@@RMJ1984 Thats why I lost all respect for Bear Grylls. He was "apparently" in the SAS and if so, he definitely understands real survival skills. So it's even worse that he would agree to be in a show that could potentially put peoples lives at risk if they tried to imitate his actions in a real survival situation. The guy sold his integrity for a pay check. Scumbag move
if only we can have another season man. I'm still watching this over and over again while laying on the couch. so entertaining and I hope I can experience traveling soon
I'm greatly impressed by the decision to carry water with you. Les Stroud you are a great teacher and so many people will be better off in the event of a real emergency of survival. I've yet to find a contradiction in your method of survival, and I've been watching you for years.. Thank you.

For those wondering, yes 140F or 60C would be a world record. However, like he said, he was taking temperature in the sun and I assume near the ground. When taking temperatures you are supposed to take it in the shade 6ft off the ground in a box that blocks wind off
@@WhoTFVotedBiden Yes it is. The temperature in the shade at 6 or 12 feet up is a proper measurement of the ambient air temperature. His thermometer said it was 140F in the sun, probably within a few feet of the ground, which would be warmer than the ambient air temperature in the area. That also isn't an accurate reading of what the air temperature is around the thermometer, because the sun would heat up the material the thermometer is made of, which would give an innacurate measurement. That's why he specified "...taken in the sun." It's still useful to mention because it gives you some information about how much hotter it is in the sun. Official weather measurements for things like the Guinness Book of World Records must be taken in the shade and at 6 or 12 feet above the ground. The hottest temperature ever recorded on the Earth under such controls was in Death Valley in 1913, when the temperature hit 56.7C (134.1F). Higher ambient temperatures have probably been sustained in the uninhabited areas of the Sahara Desert, but the Death Valley measurement is the highest ever recorded.
I have very fond memories of me watching this with my dad at a young age. Now that im older i truly realized how good this show was. Thanks so much for the uploads
I do mining construction in the desert 40c to 45c every summer. One day I drunk 11L or nearly 3 gallons. In a 10.5hour shift. The sun is no joke. Especially without shade. The biggest fear for me is not having a way of finding/making water if you do get lost. Deserts are the most dangerous survival challenges for that reason.
Glad he used gas and oil mixture. For anyone who doesn’t know, oil is harder to light than fuel, but the combination, makes a lasting, easier to light oil/fuel. Fuel by itself on that bundle would most likely evaporate, if not in some sort of air tight container.
Les thank you for what you do. These shows and you bring back great memories of childhood and I'm happy to be able to rewatch them for even more reasons than that. You are so wonderful !
Les has a really entertaining way of choosing his vocabulary and a rhythm of expressing himself that season his adventures as though with a bit of jalapeña. I get the feeling that this is how any smart, gritty guy might try to survive.
Thank you Les for making these episodes free to watch. You were always my favorite choice for survival videos. I have a question, though I’m not sure if you’ve ever been asked or answered it before, but if you were on the history channels “Alone” tv show, what 10 items would you bring with you and why?
Axe (obvious) Multitool (obvious) Climbing Rope (obvious) 3-Person popup hunting blind (to use as shelter & for hunting concealment) 10x10 tarp (water catch & for transporting stuff) TWO 5 gallon buckets (water & etc) Wool blanket (if in cold environment) Flintstrike Fire Starter (to not waste energy and time bow drilling or etc for fire). That'd be my choices for "Alone". Not really anything you CAN'T do, having all that. :) What's yours?
@asadauy Ompah okay, well im not sure what youre looking up but even after checking i can find articles online. But if its really that important to you to troll something you cant find for yourself then thats fine, you win. Have a lovely day! Even if i were wrong...does it really affect anything to point that out? What do you gain from arguing about it? By the way, these questions are entirely rhetorical and it really doesnt matter to me what your answer is.
@asadauy Ompah what reason would i have to lie about something like that? 🤣 theres no benefit for anyone to create that type of idea. Im not gonna do your leg work, if youre really that concerned or bothered by it then go find it yourself. Notice how youre obviously all kinds of butt hurt now that youve been called out. I highly doubt it, but obviously you seem to think its worth proving me wrong. So yeah, if you cant find anything then think im wrong to yourself because its apparent that no one other than you seems to care. How cool I mine at the Kalahari Desert , the Himbas have master the skills of survival in this desert for thousands of years . Now you’re thriving through here
45:34 The beginning of one of my favorite music sequences of this show. Such a good episode overall.
Les Stroud is a North American icon. May he flourish and be happy for all time! Much love from New Jersey USA!
The word Legend is used too much but Les really is a living Legend.
Yes it's a shame, but on the other hand it can also save a lost persons life. I still don't condone littering though
Us in Namibia have 7 months of summer, 350 days of sunlight. Couldy/Rain is considered beautiful.
Truth
This guy was better and more real then any man vs wild crew
It's not even about being better or more real. My main problem with Man vs Wild, is the fact that if you follow stuff he does on that show, it will get you injured, sick or killed. You don't go running around like crazy, climbing up and down cliffs, swinging from wines, jumping into unknown water and the lists just goes on and on. Nor do you go around eating or drinking things you have no clue about.. Being in a survival situation is bad enough, being in a survival situation with like a broken arm or a leg or sick, that can be a death sentences.
you know its BS right?
@@RMJ1984 one time he jumped into a freezing river naked 😂
Right he's not getting any younger nut it could be possible
Les is such a purebread LEGEND. Love watching these.
Jawa 2 pure bread?
@@lancedelacruz4117 A fresh baked one!
Early survivor man, has a bit of a early 2000s vibe in editing. Love it
I'm greatly impressed by the decision to carry water with you.
Les Stroud you are a great teacher and so many people will be better off in the event of a real emergency of survival. I've yet to find a contradiction in your method of survival, and I've been watching you for years..
Thank you.
yeah who else would have thought to bring some water when going into a desert? only the frickin SURVIVORMAN. impressive stuff
@@Rascarrr you misunderstand. he meant that he is greatly impressed that he dropped the games and admitted that there is simply no way he could have survived without water. plus, no one really goes into the desert without water, especially no one who has watched survivorman lol. i love Les because it takes a smart man to know how to survive in the wild. but it takes an even smarter man to know when he cannot.
I used to go and catches those huge locusts by the bucket full and brought home removed theirs wings and stuffed it with roasted peanuts and roasted in oil and eating with rice or potatoes that’s our daily survives foods sauce. During the war we eat what’s available to us. Every day I went into the forest and find edibles insects, trees and more. You reminded me of my past life. Now, I don’t even go camping. I loved your show. God bless you Les🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💕
*Les dying of dehydration in literal 60° C weather*
“Hydration is just so important, man I wish I had water right now”
*me* “Man this ice cold lemonade is really good, sorry what did you say Les?”
LOL, you meanie!
..... [slurps malted chocolate shake]
I get so thirsty watching survivorman!
awe Ruby he doesnt have a cameracrew with him besides the very beginning of some episodes, he’s alone these 7 days, no camera crew, all of the shots are taken by him
Lamp! Where’d I put my water again?
@awe Ruby There is no camera crew. He literally carries his own cameras around and films himself.
Lookatdat!lookatdat!lookatdat! The positive energy coming from actually making a fire is priceless.
Love Les and Survivorman....how he does this sort of thing is really amazing. He's one tough man.
This show improves my life, brings me back to being a kid
I was in Morocco and they said the hotter it was, the more clothes they wear! To protect them from the sun.. amazing!
Absolutely one of the best shows ever made hands down!
Les you legend! Making your episodes free to watch on RUclips. What a guy!
For those wondering, yes 140F or 60C would be a world record. However, like he said, he was taking temperature in the sun and I assume near the ground. When taking temperatures you are supposed to take it in the shade 6ft off the ground in a box that blocks wind off
Yep
If you take temperature in the shade that already ISNT the correct and ACTUAL temperature…
if you stand in the sun and wind you will get a lie on any thermometer @@WhoTFVotedBiden
My favorite episode
This was such a great episode when he ain't the scorpions 😂 Crunk Crunk crunk any way love ya les stroud
Morenci?
Les Stroud is my favourite survivor man since 2009 or so , my university life .
Brutal conditions. Good self-observation of symptoms and subsequent smart call to head to safety camp. Great lesson. Thanks.
I miss this show thank you for uploading these
I remember watching this when it came out and I don’t regret watching it again. Always amazing
Making this show would be so much easier now that go pros shoot such high quality video.
Well I ploughed through series 1 yesterday, onto series 2 now, thanks for this Les! 👍🏼🙏🏼
I am SO HAPPY this is all on RUclips!
The safety crew seems so mysterious.
what if we all have a safety crew just a few miles ahead 😳
Really great show! Thank you :) added bonus the man is also a professional musician and parent.
Agreed this is stuff people should know in case they ever find themselves in similar situations to Les, knowledge is power.
I love that “tejo tejo tejo” before and after the commercial breaks, takes me back to watching these back when they first aired in the US
He has a great first name, no doubt there.
Why u sat that?
Why u say that?
Why u say that?
Why u sat that?
Why u _Say_ that.
Axe (obvious)
Multitool (obvious)
Climbing Rope (obvious)
3-Person popup hunting blind (to use as shelter & for hunting concealment)
10x10 tarp (water catch & for transporting stuff)
TWO 5 gallon buckets (water & etc)
Wool blanket (if in cold environment)
Flintstrike Fire Starter (to not waste energy and time bow drilling or etc for fire).
That'd be my choices for "Alone". Not really anything you CAN'T do, having all that. :)
What's yours?
Les has actually been very public about the fact that he hates the show "alone", so i doubt even if he saw this question that it would get answered.
@asadauy Ompah Its not exactly a secret lol do a little research
Because really, truly and honestly i dont really care what youre opinion is...to me youre nothing more than words on a page. If it really means that much then again, sure, you win. Ill concede. As well, ask yourself....even if i were wrong, is it truly worth the effort on your part to throw a temper tantrum like a small child? I highly doubt it, but obviously you seem to think its worth proving me wrong. So yeah, if you cant find anything then think im wrong to yourself because its apparent that no one other than you seems to care. You need to take a long hard look in the mirror and change that crappy attitude of yours.
I am homeless and a permant driffter in Aus and I love your whole Survivorman Epps 3 times you are a true man.
I am just seeing on the third episode that you next time check the Toyota's Radiator tank for some boiled water
Love you Les only cause I have watched that much that .
Thank You Les for sharing these seasons for free on youtube!n
When I am bored and can’t find anything I want to watch on RUclips I can always rely on SurvivorMan to entertain me for days if need be
It hurt watching him pull apart such a clean Toyota Landcruiser....just saying.
Glad i wasn't the only one. came to the comments for this
We are legion!
Thankfully, it would be easy to fix and drive another 20 years. 😁
That's why I gave it a 👎
It hurts my heart too but in the name of education, Toyota Land Cruiser happens to be the vehicle that makes the most sense
It’s about time you put some of your shows on RUclips. I searched high and low for your shows on dvd back in the day, but never found them. Your first few seasons are my favorites.
That's a very beautiful place! Also, if I was there I'd take the first hour after nightfall and put it aside for stargazing because you can see the beautiful Southern Hemisphere night sky from there like the Southern Cross in Crux, Alpha and Beta Centauri and all of the Milky Way and the LMC and SMC.
You'd have zero light pollution there and could see it all to it's fullest :)
May 2022 and still the best survival series!!💪❤
Just all of a sudden in the mood to watch a bunch of Survivorman and I'm glad
You're a good man Les thank you for the content.
I want to know how much he gets paid for this kind of suffering. I've been watching so much videos that I feel a personal bond and when he suffers I feel sympathetic and irritated how much trouble he goes threw to entertain, teach and make a living. Much respect thank you for your legendary efforts
how can anyone dislike any of Les's videos?!
The Bear Grylls-Fanbase has no shame... ;°)
Wolfgang Kranek bear grills is fake because he goes with his camera crew
They just hit the wrong button .
The “Glamping” community.
Tucker Smith
It’s probably just Bear Grylls setting up multiple accounts so he can dislike these videos.
Much love and blessings Les!!! You taught me more than any boy scout camp ever did
Boy scouts taught me how to deal with a pack near my body weight. I thank them for that.
Cheerful thrifty and brave. Indeed
This is probably one of the only real (or mostly real) survival shows ever made (possibly alone or naked and afraid but I doubt it) and I’m depressed it ended
10:02 Real survival is NOT having any water but FINDING a way to keep yourself hydrated. THAT is survival.
Thank you for uploading so much on here, Les. And thank you for being with us and keeping us occupied during the quarantine.
I also love the factor that he is really alone in this and he has the cameras with him and he makes the whole thing educational
So happy to be watching survivor man like the good ol days, thanks you tube and thank you Les!!!! Your the reason Ive been practicing emergency and primitive survival tactics!
Les Idk if you read the comments, but i loved your show as a kid, never went and put myself through anything like this but its cool to see how someone can handle themselves when they know what their doing in the wilderness
THANKYOU LES! So awesome to be able to watch these.
You learn a lot watching this, sure survival techniques, but the big thing I think about is how detached we are from nature living our comfortable lives. To most people, having to do this for just a couple days would be a kind of hell.
The Toyota might look good in a collectors garage, In the meantime your bones are bleaching white in the eternal heat of the Kalahari.
I read that in Les' voice.
These are masterpieces, stumbled upon them listening to Joe Rogan.
The show should be more advertised, it would make millions of views.
Les: "There's no substitute for water"
Bear Grylls: "I'm going to drink my urine"
🤣🤣
No shit. At least Les tries to filter it first.
@@SuperKamiGuru-i3c Right much safer than just consuming straight urine which can possibly just cause more problems than helping.
At least les knows what he’s doing unlike bear grylls
Less. You r a true legend. Respected all over the globe
