Sahara: The Largest Desert On Earth | Journeys To The Ends Of The Earth | Real History

- The Sahara is the biggest desert on earth ... it takes its name from the Arab word for "emptiness". In the dead heart of that emptiness there's a place called the Tenere. The Tenere takes its name from the Tuareg word for "nothing". A nothing the size of France in the middle of an emptiness the size of the United States. It's no wonder the locals call this place "The Land Of Fear”. David Adams retraces the trade routes of the people who call this stove-hot corner of the planet home.

Desert to mean no water; hence, sahara is the largest.
@@belomark3680ice / snow isn't water so Antarctica is the largest desert. Google search largest desert and this comes up 1. Antarctic Polar Desert. Antarctica is the largest continent, as well as the largest desert in the world. This frigid wasteland dominates the South Pole with a massive surface area of 5.5 million square miles ( 14.2 million square kilometers)
The reaction of the guides to skiing down the dune was priceless.
Yea I like that segment, he worked for that decent
They might even make up a song about his feat
Whitest thing he could've done lol
I know one thing fur sure: if I ever visit a desert I will drive a Toyota. In all documentaries about deserts, that brand is always present. Excellent documentary!
My Tacoma has 325,000 miles and runs excellent
Its like those Nokia 3310, durable AF.
Some people even said its easy to repair and parts easily available from third party or source company, but I dont know that its true or not cause I have no knowledge in mechanical vehicle.
Scotty Kilmer swears by Toyota. He says they are the best built cars in the country.
Also let's not forget it depends on the person who owns it, oh wait secondhand cars which are overused are sold and still used as military vehicles where they put machine guns on it. And its mostly Toyota's pick-up 🛻
@@reevus2558 In 1987 Libya decided to invade the neighboring country of Chad. The Chadian Army was poorly equipped with only light trucks. However these trucks had better maneuverability and driver farther in worse terrain the Libyan tanks & APCs. So the Chadians gave the Libyans a good sound thrashing and the whole thing was called the Toyota War. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_War
All my life I hsve been fascinated by Nomadic people, throughout the world. Their fierce Independence, Loyalty, Pride. Each Culture, has roots in Warrior traditions. You cannot help but respect their traditions! It is a hard life, but the rewards are worth it! This is a Wonderfull Video!
yeah they are very cool, I want one of those swords!
Durn Man...what rewards? You have SAND in your food, water, bed...and even in your mouth if you sleep with it open!!!

Ten largest deserts in the world.
Most of us typically think of deserts as sand and bare rock, so the cold places don't so much register as *deserts*, as in dryness- even cold.
Now for top ten desserts.

When he grabbed the salt 3:10 of the video. The man is like "and now, are you buying that salt" 😂😂😂😂
It pissed me off that he used his bare hands on their salt
He asked people before he films guaranteed before he does things to anger them or has bills at the ready
I'm African, but I knew nothing about the Tuareg until I watched this documentary. I envy the narrator

Truly amazing and incredibly beautiful. Thank you so much for taking me on this adventure of crossing the Saharan desert in the country of Niger. I loved watching you sand ski down the high mound and across the sand. Wow! Ancient customs and kind people taking you into their country and showing you the way and you bring this this adventure into our lives as a gift. You are so kind and respectful. Their world is so remote from the genocide of the Palestinians. I hope they find out what the Israelis are doing and pray it ends now and Israel exists no longer because they have been forced to leave and return to Europe.
Amazing! One of the best sights I have seen in this documentary in my long years.
Good luck, young man, and God be with you.

Skiing down the sand dune is something I would do. Skiing across the desert attached by a rope to a truck, no way! That's crazy! If he slipped or tripped on a rock he could break his legs!
Fascinating. Intriguing.
