Celine is actually (with her prf class) the only Mystical unit that doesn't cap Spd at 31, her spd cap is 41, meaning she avoids doubles from end game enemy swordmasters if you feed her a tiny bit of Speedwings or even Speedtaker. She takes a small amount of work but her mixed attacking is actually nutty
Her mixed attacking is definitely not “nutty,” and at a total level of 40 she’s only gonna have 28 speed on maddening. Also idk why having a higher speed cap than other mystical classes matters, all your mages should be running mage knight instead of sage anyways
@@Edgeperoryou want staves on some of your mages. Celine’s class notably has access to both warp and levin sword. You can still have a more cheaply forged weapon and use warp. Griffon knight lacks the staff rank only being c rank and mage knight just can’t use staves. So if you don’t wanna be forced to run michiah on a magic unit so they can still use stave’s Celine’s a nice option. Staves are too strong in engage to have a magical unit that can’t use them
On the topic of the reclass system, i really feel like thos game would've benefited from the Awakening/Fates system, where you start in one class and can seal into one or two other ones. It'd give people like Boucheron more of a niche since he'd be one of the few ways to get a warrior
Even though I joked about Kagetsu falling off, I know he really didn’t, but it was fun for him to play not the most optimal class. Really gave him that challenge.
Fun fact: Bunet is voiced by the same guy who voices Whis from Dragon Ball Super who is also obsessed with tasting things, although not to the same insane degree. At least I don't recall Whis ever asking to lick someone's sword lol.
Clanne is nice because he has the second highest speed growth in the game and unironically benefits from berserker since all he needs to do is stack magic or strength, which is relatively easy since he doesn't really need anything else

Ironically, Diamant's low hit rate can actually help him attacking 6 times against all breakable classes without killing them when using "Break Defenses" in combination with Brave Sword, Brave Axe. Refilling the engage slot in one action against most non-boss unit which is unique to him and Alear
Another build you can run with Panette is Wolf Knight. You get 6 move and she has Dagger affinity. And she loses a little strength overall from the reclass, but she murders everything anyways and you get reliable 1-2 range. Good unit :)
Really enjoying these tier lists and production. They're genuinely funny. Hopefully we get Tellius coming up, and the Dawn Brigade better be in the S tier.

Fun fact about Zelkov's cloak in case no one's mentioned it, it actually is lined on the inside with like a billion keys that are just sewn into it. So it's not exactly solid steel but it is armored in a way, i imagine it wouldn't be super easy to cut through what looks like about forty pounds of brass in a trench coat. Also explains his build, he's basically wearing weighted clothing, it all ties together, what great storytelling through character design
After seeing this tier list, I find it crazy that I managed to make Etie and Lapis good units during my playthrough, with Lapis becoming a god once she was able to become a Wyvern unit. But I was on Hard and they were both stocked with some of the best Emblems in the game and I lost my cartridge before I got to finish the game.
Kagetsu is probably the reason Swordmaster is a bad class. IS saw Kagetsu had crazy stats and was super OP so they decided to make it a bad class and also gave it no class skill. And even as one of the worst classes in the game, Kagetsu outclasses the entire cast of the game as a physical unit.
Would be really hard to account for everything, but if it's just how strong your army is / how weak the enemy is I'd maybe pick...Ike's first game? The enemies are so pathetic lmao
One disagreement I must say about Fogado's Cupido class is that his magic stat is quite serviceable. He can effectively use the Radiant Bow and Levin Sword on the same set and he can destroy armored units and flying units basically for free. Yes he can do Radiant Bow shenanigans in Warrior like you said but his magic stat in the Warrior class would be lower than it would be in the Cupido class. Other than that, everything else you said about Fogado is on point.
I love how Engage’s unit building mechanics allow you to make anyone usable, and more importantly, fun to use. It’s all about finding the right combination of emblem rings, skills, engravings, and classes that play to the character’s strengths. Apart from the bizarrely high SP costs the whole system is well tuned. I hope IS builds off Engage’s gameplay for the next mainline title. And hires some better writers, ideally lol.
Agreed on most parts. One thing I'd like to point out however, is that when you are checking the base stats and growth of the units, both of them are modified by the base classes they are in. For example, you said that Anna has Magic base stat of just 2, but if you 2nd seal her into mage at level 5, her magic becomes 9 which is same as Clanne at the same level (which isnt THAT high, but not a mere 2). It would be better to check the unit's base stats + growths before the class modifiers
My current Kagetsu build is reclassed as a Sword/Axe Hero with a Wo Dao+5 with Camillas engrave. I also had him inherit Speedtaker and Alacrity and I run Ike on him. He is a mobile slaughterhouse.
in my ironman, I brought halberdier bunet into the timerra chapter as a joke and he got palette killed. I don't think I've ever liked a unit less. he's funny though

obviously with random growths it comes into question how useful everyone is. my friend was playing his first playthrough (i let him use a save with random growths) and late game his yunaka had the perfect avoid to have 1-10% chance of being hit w/ corrin in fog by anything other than an axe, not counting mystical units. she was drawing aggro and never being hit, and aside from armored units she dealt at least 1 damage to everything. chloe's +2 is true damage like alear passive, thus becoming +5 / +10 when doubling. obv alear suffers from dragon effectiveness, but there's few dragon effective weapons for her to be hit by and playing smart you can game the enemy ai around it (force veyle to use obscurite / misericorde / thoron in 2/3 range rather than falchion in 1 range). Anna does suffer a lot esp from starting class and eating your first second seal, but her magic growth is absurdly high and her personal skill is so utterly broken that i think she warrants a way higher ranking. virtually infinite gold is nice alone, but magic has a lot of solid offensive options and a micaiah engrave solves her whole dying shtick easily
@@ImportedCheese depending on when you get her, you might be able to spare a 2nd seal and use it to put Zelestia back in the same personal class at level 1 and avoid it for a while or permanently if you’re committed to not learning it.
I would argue that Yunaka is at least equal or better than Zelkov by virtue of being forced to use micaiah on join chapter (and gain the immense benefits of exp/sp gain) and easily gaining enough sp for canter + something else before the great ring exodus (since reclassing is very limited early and thieves (knifes(Yunaka)) are really strong). Her higher res also helps with fighting mages while zelkovs higher def doesen't really matter. Her growths are better too. When she matches Zelkov at lvl 17 she will have equal or one less speed(but with higher growth), 1-2 higher Dex and 2 less strenght but from thats worth having skills from the early rings. She also gets a decent mag stat which can be useful for reclassing and using something like the levin sword. Zelkov has the build on her but for knives that doesen't matter unless reclassed.
Unrelated to the tier list, is there any (consistent) way to grind for gold? Currently in the Solm arc and i made some... questionable money choices and now i can't afford axes for Fire Emblem Warriors
I know it's suboptimal and meme-y, but I unironically love running a crit sniper Yunaka paired with Chrobin on Maddening. It has the added bonus of hitting hard with Radiant Bow while engaged. It's a lot of fun.
I would argue that Framme’s utility goes past just being a Chain Guard/ Staff bot While Alear is also a very good user of Bonded Shield, Alear has to sacrifice some of their potential for combat and if they aren’t in their personal class, the bonded shield is 90% (If it’s not 100% it’s 50%). Alear’s ability to use Lance/Sword power as a Wyvern is also slightly undersold, meaning I would rather have Alear be a combat unit with their good speed and early access to XP(Who else are you giving that early xp to, Alfred?) Back to Framme, I would argue that she is the best user of Bonded Shield, because she has 100% to guard, and with her good speed stat and good support list(ex: Kagetsu and Chloe, not to mention Alear), she is not too likely to get bodied. She also gets early levels from healing for which she doesn’t have much competition early. Not to mention, she doesn’t have to second seal to her best class.
I'm not a god gamer like you so I'm playing on hard, but Framme is one of the best units in my army, ironically enough. I gave her Sigurd early game, and lmao'd at tiny punch girl riding in from ten squares away to deliver the final punch to the enemy leader. Now she's a master monk with Lin doing her best Tifa impression. If only she'd shut up about 目線...

Alcryst is an amazing unit. Lunar brace from Erica and his class skill Luna stack making him just melt any unit including armored. Give him lyn for speed taker and extra dex has over a 50% chace to proc Luna. Also, if you put him next to Alear and give him a rally or something because of Luna and Lunar brace and extra true damage from Alear he will pretty much one shot any enemy on the map with Astra storm on maddening. Its fun to do lol.
Framme B tier is just ouch. Doesn't compete for exp, best bonded shield user, stellar support list, crazy avoid, will eventually be fast enough to quad enemies to instantly refresh engage meter. yes on maddening no grind no dlc no bonus items. All it costs is a _single_ master seal. Bad take, not even a hot take, just objectively bad.
She's...like....okayish? Probably better now that she can pay2win with enchanter, but Ivy/Hortensia/Pandreo can do all the staffing you could ever want while also flying and fighting
I mean, there's no reason you can't use them all together. They don't really replace each other. You get 10-12 deployment slots up until late game , so 4-6 support units, give or take, is really the sweet spot. You don't want to have too many carry units so you can adequately spread the exp. Besides, Ivy and Hortensia do fundamentally different things to her that are equally important. It's not worth reclassing them to Qi Adepts either, unless you want to lose access to their unique classes. Hortensia with flying and her +1 staff aoe and Ivy with her potential to transition into a flying mage carry. Framme's main value lies in being an unkillable Bonded shield user for low investment. I think you're underestimating how good Bonded shield is. It has a 100% activation on Qi Adept classes and completely negates the first attack that your unit would otherwise take. Coupled with her SPD growth and good support list, this allows her to avoid stack with low SP, which makes her literally unhittable to the point that enemies would ignore her and target the units she is protecting with bonded shield instead, which is exactly what you want, thus completely negating every enemy's first attack. It allows for very safe Enemy Phases during late game where enemies hit really hard, and again, for low investment. And that's not even mentioning all her staffing and chain guarding utility she gives, up until the point where she transitions into Bonded shield duty. It's hard not to see the value she brings when all she needs to achieve this is a master seal and equipping the Lucina Emblem ring
I'm gonna die on the hill that Etie-Warrior with Lyn is a upper C-tier unit. She can easily make it to lv10 before the schism while 3 or 4 other units can pass around Marth and Micaiah, plus she has access to axes through Leif so she can promote and side seal into warrior early. Alear needs a side seal to go Wyvern for the schism to make your life easier and Chloe doesnt want to switch off lances until her magic catches up a little into Solm. Having that 2-3 range steel bow spanker really makes the last leg of the early game a boost. Not to mention early game, she actually loves having Leif and his build increase all to herself.
@@ImportedCheese she reaches it for for me everytime at least by the chapter after you get Leif; sometimes by the schism. Chloe and Alear pass around Marth to both reach 10 a chapter or so before that.
I am an avid Etie enjoyer. Lemme just say she is one of the few warriors able to use the silver bow. Others being Anna lol and Fogado. Both better off using the Raidant bow since they have decent magic stats/growths. If you don't wanna forge a steel bow she is better at killing strong enemy fliers then Amber or Panette as warriors. Amber and Panette will have 2 higher strength at equal internal levels. Steel bows have 10 might or 30 with effective damage. Silver bows have 13 might and 39 with effective damage. Etie at internal level 15 warrior with 22 strength with a silver bow has 35 attack compared to Amber and Panette at internal level 15 34 attack. So really its only a difference of 1 attack. Against fliers though she'll have 61 attack compared to 54 with the steel bow. She will have a little less build and HP but it really only matters with Panette since her Hp is much higher then both Amber and Etie. I think she is an underrated pick. Besides Amber and panette aren't doubling either. She is always gonna be worse with axes though. She isn't like Boucheron or Alfred who are pretty awful. In terms of Firene units she's probably the best to train long term as strength never falls off and never fails you. Otherwise she's a good combat unit that takes more effort to use simply because she is an early game unit. Literally any unit in the Elusia and Solm chapters are cracked because they have such good bases. Well except Timerra and Bunet. Give her a Leif engraving on a silver bow and you're set. At worst she's Basically the same or slightly worse unless you're fighting fliers. Which to be fair there are quite alot of in the Brodia and Solm chapters and even more in the later game elusian chapters. At best I'd say she is one of the better units to train in the whole early game aside from Chloe and Louis. Louis definitely falls off hard and Chloe is pretty decent the whole time. If any unit wanted a stat to be good in at least it was strength right?

If you feed her kills (especially if you plan on benching the other early game units) she'll most likely be able to promote on chapter 7,8 or 9 and by then you have Alcryst (who is worse) but he takes no investment at all so it's much easier to use him. If you really wanna make use of Eite with minimal training though slap roy on her, Because she's so frail enemies will target her which actually makes roy better on her since she doesn't die instantly and also enemies love a defenseless archer
I didn't watch any videos about this game til chapter 18 on hard, with tons of grinding and fighting in ridiculously hard skirmishes, with recommended levels of advanced 20++; and I naturally came to the same conclusion that Warrior is kinda stupid... but in the interest of diversity, I only put Doucheron and Etie into it. I didn't get the impression, at all, that swordmaster was bad. I left Kagetsu in it, because from the moment I got him he was doing great damage and had high avoidance; and that never changed, as I continued using him... seemed to me that swordmaster fit him perfectly. I am perplexed by the Alfed and Cerine hate. Ignis makes Cerine being a mixed attacker work in her favor; I used her with an Excalibur tome, the Giga Excalibur bond ring, and a Killer Sword +4 and she was strong vs everything. Alfred's stats and growths are all good, so I don't understand the hate.. even his special class skill isn't half as useless al many others, and triggers quite a bit; it's not something I can rely on, but it does trigger a lot.
hard mode is much easier, you can do anything you want Kagetsu seems good in swordmaster because he has crazy stats, swordmaster is attrocious and Kagetsu does better in almost any other class Alfred and celine are both unusable garbage on madenning
As a tepid Fire Emblem enjoyer who's only played the games with major Western console releases before Engage, I really like 3H's Build-a-Bear unit progression and it not being in Engage was one of the reasons I didn't buy it. Why do more hardcore FE fans seem more mixed or negative towards it? If you just get unlucky and end up rolling nothing but Dex and Speed for Lysithea, she can actually become a swordsman rather than being literally useless without the ability to move out of her mage archetype.

Especially for games that put a lot of emphasis on units as characters rather than just pieces on a board, they should have more of a unique battlefield role to match their unique personality. I found 3H to be a middle ground between more traditional Fire Emblem and the customization of nameless grunts I enjoy in games like Firaxis' XCOM.
My man, try bringing Boucheron until late game (maddening) and tell me again that he belongs to that tier. He's a very low investment unit, he only needs bow prof to promote to warrior. You don't even need to give him OP emblem, just Marth would suffice. In a game where everybody is hindered by low bld bases/growths, trust me Boucheron don't mind that middling 40% str growth when he can quad with Brave Axe. Also if you still haven't found a use for your Roy engrave, attach that to a +4/5 Steel Bow and watch him destroy flyers and he can still double most wyverns. Early game all he ever needs is a Leif engrave axe and he wouldn't really mind the additional wt. Trust me he's just bad in Firene, but if you consistently use him normally, he'll pull his own weight around mid Brodia.
@@ImportedCheese As an IL 15 Warrior, Amber has 24.7 Strength while Panette has 24.45. Since they have the same growth, Amber will keep that .25 strength lead for the whole game, but the difference in strength is honestly negligible.
Vander deserves nothing but the lowest tier. He's effectively worthless as a Jagen because he's already outclassed by like, chapter 3, AND you can beat all early game chapters without giving him a single combat on maddening with no issues whatsoever. His best use case is using him as a weaponless shield occasionally until you have another unit that can take his place, and it really doesn't matter if he survives any encounters. If that isn't the worst unit in the game, I don't know what is. I would argue Framme and Jean deserve to go up a tier to A. They provide amazing early game utility, level very quickly because they're healers, and can abuse the Micaiah skill that heals you whenever you heal others to chain guard more consistently and more often. They both have different roles they can do later in the game(Framme is more suited to support with bond shield, while Jean can do that as well or branch off into an offensive class due to his nature as a villager trainee), but there's not a point in the game where they fall off or become less useful, and this is all without having to change their class to do so. Celine is definitely deserving of at least a B rank. She's the number one abuser of the levin sword, which is one of the most powerful weapons in this game. She has a few choices for classes to branch off into, but her unique one provides the coveted mystical class bonus with swords, which means it's levin sword abuse time, baby. No one else can do what she does, so she's wholly unique and deserving of recognition for that alone. Chloe is an easy S tier. She's one of the best combat units in the game, and she never falls off. All you have to do is make her into a wyvern rider and her offensive stats will snowball into monstrous, but that's not all you can do with her. If you don't mind taking the STR loss, she functions as a good supportive offensive unit in griffon knight, or you can abuse levin sword and change her completely into a mage knight, where she decimates even harder with destructive magic damage across the field. I think there's no equal to her due to her extreme early game availability, meaning even though there are comparable combat units that join you later, she will always have a leg up on growing since you practically start the game with her. I think Anna is B with an asterisk. IF you do a bunch of tedious shit like recruiting her first and then heal spamming until she's level 10 on Jean's paralogue so she can class change to sage as soon as you get a master and second seal without seeing any combat, she's pretty decent. She'll still take a while to grow, but a fledgling mage is always better than a fledgling warrior in this game, so she can still do good chip and finish off enemies until she catches up. Is it actually worth doing all of this to make her decent? Probably not, in which case I would rate her pretty low because she just requires too much investment to get off the ground, but I still think there are worse units than her. I would accept a C personally. Lapis is definitely not better than Alcryst. I'm not going to get too into it because this post is long enough, but she deserves C, and he deserves B imo. Just my thoughts, your reasoning is pretty sound for everyone else. I would maybe lower Ivy a tad, but she's either high A or low S imo.
@@ImportedCheese His bases are so bad that I'm not sure you can even really consider him a Jagen. There's no Jagen in the series that falls off a cliff faster than he does. I'm normally a Jagen enjoyer but I really find him quite worthless in this game.
Hero is great in this game as well, thanks to backup shenanigans. Hero getting 2 backup attacks and Lucina's Dual Assist skill means that other units are able to kill much more reliably, and the growths on hero aren't bad either so they can kill units themselves. They shine a lot on maddening due to beefy enemies making it hard for your units to one round things, so getting an extra 20% of their hp at the start of battle makes those bulky bosses a cakewalk.
have you ever used boucheron in maddening? i used him without any dlc and bouche was able to oneround sombron consistently because he can quad with brave axes. i made a 1 min vid demonstrating it, heck i did the same thing later with Leif emblem as well but its not posted. all people need to do is just use an advanced seal on bouche for zerker or warrior to patch up strength and then keep playing till saphir gives a free brave axe. he consistently one rounds most things with very little investment, just dont make him underleveled and he will always put in alot of work on your team

Good Video! I think there are a few things i would like to talk about. I think you're undervaluing Chloe a lot, she is by far the best candidate for investment out of the early unit's and engage gives a lot of resource, so you can power level Chloe very easily through the Marth emblem earlygame which gives her tons of exp with Mercurius and also allows her to one round most enemies earlygame and then switching to the Micaiah Emblem when her exp falls off using 5 way heals and Great Sacrifice. She then can use this investment to grind SP and with some Well assistance, get her Sword Power +2/3 and she one rounds literally everything in the game. So basically; her combat is unparalleled for the entire game and she is the best person to get these resources. I would even argue she's the best chararin the game. I think you're too harsh on Alfred and Celine as well. Their earlygame performance can really shine in a lot of chapters thanks to Celines great base stats and Alfreds great natural bulk and early emblem ring access. In Chapter 4, Alfred is probably your best candidate for the Sigurd ring and you'll want to get momentum on him for Chapter 5, where his lower defense then someone like Louis can make clearing the left side much easier as the sword fighters will not ignore him and with a defense tonic he takes almost no damage at all and thanks to unlocking momentum, can clear out the left side in about 3 turns with careful AI manipulation whereas Louis takes longer by vitue of not being able to enemy phase them. His low speed can also be circumvented through cooking, which by this time can give anyone +2 in speed and Emblem rings like Marth which can really help his situation. This gives Alfred the big boost he needs to keep being offensively relevant, and when he falls off, you can make him a bonded shield bot thanks to his great defense and resistance making enemies not want to target him. He also has access to early skills like Favourite Food which is nice as later units like Goldmary who can also fill this niche do not have this skill until Celica returns. Celine is similar but has much better starting stats making her capable at one rounding most enemies at base. She doesn't hold up in combat long term either so she will most likely be a staff bot with Micaiah's Staff Mastery Skills lategame but her early game contributions are certainly nothing to scoff at. There are few other things ill briefly talk about; Yunaka has decent combat potential early game but unlike other early units, her promotion is sooo late because of how Thief works, which can hurt her a lot when compared to other units like Zelkov which can beat her in combat after Chapter 11. Because she promotes so late, it's hard to turn her into a staff bot utlizing her skill access or anything like that because her promotion level is simply so late. Zelkov suffers a similar issue but you can power level with Lucina's bow (which Yunaka doesn't reach offensive benchmarks for) if you know what your doing so he at least reaches promotion on time. Lapis also probably deserves to be higher; her main issue is her horrible SP base, but engage gives so many resource's that you can still get her to canter on time. Otherwise, in Wyvern her offensive stats are good and are pretty similar to Kagetsu, although worse, but i would say its enough. Otherwise good tier list, sorry if i rambled too much in this, i am too obsessed with Engage.
I believe citrene belongs below Celine and alcryst because you have to babysit her more than nino nino has more survivability than citrene and her builds require resources which is better spent on someone else more like ivy or hortensia to make the best healbot I am citrene number one hater
Bunet is the return of a joke unit. And I’m all for it. He has horrid stats and is an absolute menace to society with his supports. But we need units like Bunet, Shannam and Arden once in a while. Just don’t call him a good unit by any stretch.
So Enguage's bad story and 3H haveing a lot of the same and maddeing being kinda... unfun made me not want to ENGUAGE with the game but... watching ol Cheezy look at their stats and they no longer have like modern day FE stats but like... Blazing Blade stats makes me want to play game game and skip the story
Putting seadall at #1 doesn't make sense. Seadall doesn't do any combat. Kagetsu would still be good if there was no dancer, seagull would be completely useless if there were no allies to buff. He can't kill bosses, complete map objectives, he dies super easily. Yes, he is an incredibly strong character, but it's less about what HE does and more about what he makes OTHER units do.
Also I just feel like commenting on your mention of fe3h heroes. Hero in that game actually has 2 very useful traits that no other class has: innate vantage, and defiant strength. Hero can be a legitimate (albeit very situational) end game class if you have access to bat wrath or mastered warrior for wrath. It's not great, but it's genuinely the best end game class for sword users and has a genuinely useful niche for low investment

Celine is actually (with her prf class) the only Mystical unit that doesn't cap Spd at 31, her spd cap is 41, meaning she avoids doubles from end game enemy swordmasters if you feed her a tiny bit of Speedwings or even Speedtaker. She takes a small amount of work but her mixed attacking is actually nutty

Her mixed attacking is definitely not “nutty,” and at a total level of 40 she’s only gonna have 28 speed on maddening. Also idk why having a higher speed cap than other mystical classes matters, all your mages should be running mage knight instead of sage anyways
@@Edgeperoryou want staves on some of your mages. Celine’s class notably has access to both warp and levin sword. You can still have a more cheaply forged weapon and use warp. Griffon knight lacks the staff rank only being c rank and mage knight just can’t use staves. So if you don’t wanna be forced to run michiah on a magic unit so they can still use stave’s Celine’s a nice option. Staves are too strong in engage to have a magical unit that can’t use them
On the topic of the reclass system, i really feel like thos game would've benefited from the Awakening/Fates system, where you start in one class and can seal into one or two other ones. It'd give people like Boucheron more of a niche since he'd be one of the few ways to get a warrior

Ironically, Diamant's low hit rate can actually help him attacking 6 times against all breakable classes without killing them when using "Break Defenses" in combination with Brave Sword, Brave Axe. Refilling the engage slot in one action against most non-boss unit which is unique to him and Alear
Another build you can run with Panette is Wolf Knight. You get 6 move and she has Dagger affinity. And she loses a little strength overall from the reclass, but she murders everything anyways and you get reliable 1-2 range. Good unit :)

Fun fact about Zelkov's cloak in case no one's mentioned it, it actually is lined on the inside with like a billion keys that are just sewn into it. So it's not exactly solid steel but it is armored in a way, i imagine it wouldn't be super easy to cut through what looks like about forty pounds of brass in a trench coat. Also explains his build, he's basically wearing weighted clothing, it all ties together, what great storytelling through character design

After seeing this tier list, I find it crazy that I managed to make Etie and Lapis good units during my playthrough, with Lapis becoming a god once she was able to become a Wyvern unit. But I was on Hard and they were both stocked with some of the best Emblems in the game and I lost my cartridge before I got to finish the game.

Kagetsu is probably the reason Swordmaster is a bad class. IS saw Kagetsu had crazy stats and was super OP so they decided to make it a bad class and also gave it no class skill. And even as one of the worst classes in the game, Kagetsu outclasses the entire cast of the game as a physical unit.

One disagreement I must say about Fogado's Cupido class is that his magic stat is quite serviceable. He can effectively use the Radiant Bow and Levin Sword on the same set and he can destroy armored units and flying units basically for free. Yes he can do Radiant Bow shenanigans in Warrior like you said but his magic stat in the Warrior class would be lower than it would be in the Cupido class. Other than that, everything else you said about Fogado is on point.

I love how Engage’s unit building mechanics allow you to make anyone usable, and more importantly, fun to use. It’s all about finding the right combination of emblem rings, skills, engravings, and classes that play to the character’s strengths. Apart from the bizarrely high SP costs the whole system is well tuned. I hope IS builds off Engage’s gameplay for the next mainline title. And hires some better writers, ideally lol.

Agreed on most parts. One thing I'd like to point out however, is that when you are checking the base stats and growth of the units, both of them are modified by the base classes they are in. For example, you said that Anna has Magic base stat of just 2, but if you 2nd seal her into mage at level 5, her magic becomes 9 which is same as Clanne at the same level (which isnt THAT high, but not a mere 2). It would be better to check the unit's base stats + growths before the class modifiers

My current Kagetsu build is reclassed as a Sword/Axe Hero with a Wo Dao+5 with Camillas engrave. I also had him inherit Speedtaker and Alacrity and I run Ike on him. He is a mobile slaughterhouse.

obviously with random growths it comes into question how useful everyone is. my friend was playing his first playthrough (i let him use a save with random growths) and late game his yunaka had the perfect avoid to have 1-10% chance of being hit w/ corrin in fog by anything other than an axe, not counting mystical units. she was drawing aggro and never being hit, and aside from armored units she dealt at least 1 damage to everything. chloe's +2 is true damage like alear passive, thus becoming +5 / +10 when doubling. obv alear suffers from dragon effectiveness, but there's few dragon effective weapons for her to be hit by and playing smart you can game the enemy ai around it (force veyle to use obscurite / misericorde / thoron in 2/3 range rather than falchion in 1 range). Anna does suffer a lot esp from starting class and eating your first second seal, but her magic growth is absurdly high and her personal skill is so utterly broken that i think she warrants a way higher ranking. virtually infinite gold is nice alone, but magic has a lot of solid offensive options and a micaiah engrave solves her whole dying shtick easily
Soulblade lets you Levin Sword mages and certain bosses.

I would argue that Yunaka is at least equal or better than Zelkov by virtue of being forced to use micaiah on join chapter (and gain the immense benefits of exp/sp gain) and easily gaining enough sp for canter + something else before the great ring exodus (since reclassing is very limited early and thieves (knifes(Yunaka)) are really strong). Her higher res also helps with fighting mages while zelkovs higher def doesen't really matter. Her growths are better too. When she matches Zelkov at lvl 17 she will have equal or one less speed(but with higher growth), 1-2 higher Dex and 2 less strenght but from thats worth having skills from the early rings. She also gets a decent mag stat which can be useful for reclassing and using something like the levin sword.
Zelkov has the build on her but for knives that doesen't matter unless reclassed.
Unrelated to the tier list, is there any (consistent) way to grind for gold? Currently in the Solm arc and i made some... questionable money choices and now i can't afford axes for Fire Emblem Warriors

I know it's suboptimal and meme-y, but I unironically love running a crit sniper Yunaka paired with Chrobin on Maddening. It has the added bonus of hitting hard with Radiant Bow while engaged. It's a lot of fun.

I would argue that Framme’s utility goes past just being a Chain Guard/ Staff bot
While Alear is also a very good user of Bonded Shield, Alear has to sacrifice some of their potential for combat and if they aren’t in their personal class, the bonded shield is 90% (If it’s not 100% it’s 50%). Alear’s ability to use Lance/Sword power as a Wyvern is also slightly undersold, meaning I would rather have Alear be a combat unit with their good speed and early access to XP(Who else are you giving that early xp to, Alfred?)
Back to Framme, I would argue that she is the best user of Bonded Shield, because she has 100% to guard, and with her good speed stat and good support list(ex: Kagetsu and Chloe, not to mention Alear), she is not too likely to get bodied. She also gets early levels from healing for which she doesn’t have much competition early. Not to mention, she doesn’t have to second seal to her best class.
I'm not a god gamer like you so I'm playing on hard, but Framme is one of the best units in my army, ironically enough. I gave her Sigurd early game, and lmao'd at tiny punch girl riding in from ten squares away to deliver the final punch to the enemy leader. Now she's a master monk with Lin doing her best Tifa impression. If only she'd shut up about 目線...

Alcryst is an amazing unit. Lunar brace from Erica and his class skill Luna stack making him just melt any unit including armored. Give him lyn for speed taker and extra dex has over a 50% chace to proc Luna. Also, if you put him next to Alear and give him a rally or something because of Luna and Lunar brace and extra true damage from Alear he will pretty much one shot any enemy on the map with Astra storm on maddening. Its fun to do lol.

Framme B tier is just ouch. Doesn't compete for exp, best bonded shield user, stellar support list, crazy avoid, will eventually be fast enough to quad enemies to instantly refresh engage meter. yes on maddening no grind no dlc no bonus items. All it costs is a _single_ master seal. Bad take, not even a hot take, just objectively bad.
She's...like....okayish? Probably better now that she can pay2win with enchanter, but Ivy/Hortensia/Pandreo can do all the staffing you could ever want while also flying and fighting
I mean, there's no reason you can't use them all together. They don't really replace each other. You get 10-12 deployment slots up until late game , so 4-6 support units, give or take, is really the sweet spot. You don't want to have too many carry units so you can adequately spread the exp. Besides, Ivy and Hortensia do fundamentally different things to her that are equally important. It's not worth reclassing them to Qi Adepts either, unless you want to lose access to their unique classes. Hortensia with flying and her +1 staff aoe and Ivy with her potential to transition into a flying mage carry. Framme's main value lies in being an unkillable Bonded shield user for low investment. I think you're underestimating how good Bonded shield is. It has a 100% activation on Qi Adept classes and completely negates the first attack that your unit would otherwise take. Coupled with her SPD growth and good support list, this allows her to avoid stack with low SP, which makes her literally unhittable to the point that enemies would ignore her and target the units she is protecting with bonded shield instead, which is exactly what you want, thus completely negating every enemy's first attack. It allows for very safe Enemy Phases during late game where enemies hit really hard, and again, for low investment. And that's not even mentioning all her staffing and chain guarding utility she gives, up until the point where she transitions into Bonded shield duty. It's hard not to see the value she brings when all she needs to achieve this is a master seal and equipping the Lucina Emblem ring
I'm gonna die on the hill that Etie-Warrior with Lyn is a upper C-tier unit. She can easily make it to lv10 before the schism while 3 or 4 other units can pass around Marth and Micaiah, plus she has access to axes through Leif so she can promote and side seal into warrior early.
Alear needs a side seal to go Wyvern for the schism to make your life easier and Chloe doesnt want to switch off lances until her magic catches up a little into Solm. Having that 2-3 range steel bow spanker really makes the last leg of the early game a boost.
Not to mention early game, she actually loves having Leif and his build increase all to herself.
Then you will die, she'll never even reach level 10
@@ImportedCheese she reaches it for for me everytime at least by the chapter after you get Leif; sometimes by the schism. Chloe and Alear pass around Marth to both reach 10 a chapter or so before that.
I am an avid Etie enjoyer. Lemme just say she is one of the few warriors able to use the silver bow. Others being Anna lol and Fogado. Both better off using the Raidant bow since they have decent magic stats/growths. If you don't wanna forge a steel bow she is better at killing strong enemy fliers then Amber or Panette as warriors. Amber and Panette will have 2 higher strength at equal internal levels. Steel bows have 10 might or 30 with effective damage. Silver bows have 13 might and 39 with effective damage. Etie at internal level 15 warrior with 22 strength with a silver bow has 35 attack compared to Amber and Panette at internal level 15 34 attack. So really its only a difference of 1 attack. Against fliers though she'll have 61 attack compared to 54 with the steel bow. She will have a little less build and HP but it really only matters with Panette since her Hp is much higher then both Amber and Etie. I think she is an underrated pick. Besides Amber and panette aren't doubling either. She is always gonna be worse with axes though. She isn't like Boucheron or Alfred who are pretty awful. In terms of Firene units she's probably the best to train long term as strength never falls off and never fails you. Otherwise she's a good combat unit that takes more effort to use simply because she is an early game unit. Literally any unit in the Elusia and Solm chapters are cracked because they have such good bases. Well except Timerra and Bunet. Give her a Leif engraving on a silver bow and you're set. At worst she's Basically the same or slightly worse unless you're fighting fliers. Which to be fair there are quite alot of in the Brodia and Solm chapters and even more in the later game elusian chapters. At best I'd say she is one of the better units to train in the whole early game aside from Chloe and Louis. Louis definitely falls off hard and Chloe is pretty decent the whole time. If any unit wanted a stat to be good in at least it was strength right?

If you feed her kills (especially if you plan on benching the other early game units) she'll most likely be able to promote on chapter 7,8 or 9 and by then you have Alcryst (who is worse) but he takes no investment at all so it's much easier to use him. If you really wanna make use of Eite with minimal training though slap roy on her, Because she's so frail enemies will target her which actually makes roy better on her since she doesn't die instantly and also enemies love a defenseless archer

I didn't watch any videos about this game til chapter 18 on hard, with tons of grinding and fighting in ridiculously hard skirmishes, with recommended levels of advanced 20++; and I naturally came to the same conclusion that Warrior is kinda stupid... but in the interest of diversity, I only put Doucheron and Etie into it.
I didn't get the impression, at all, that swordmaster was bad. I left Kagetsu in it, because from the moment I got him he was doing great damage and had high avoidance; and that never changed, as I continued using him... seemed to me that swordmaster fit him perfectly.
I am perplexed by the Alfed and Cerine hate. Ignis makes Cerine being a mixed attacker work in her favor; I used her with an Excalibur tome, the Giga Excalibur bond ring, and a Killer Sword +4 and she was strong vs everything. Alfred's stats and growths are all good, so I don't understand the hate.. even his special class skill isn't half as useless al many others, and triggers quite a bit; it's not something I can rely on, but it does trigger a lot.

As a tepid Fire Emblem enjoyer who's only played the games with major Western console releases before Engage, I really like 3H's Build-a-Bear unit progression and it not being in Engage was one of the reasons I didn't buy it.
Why do more hardcore FE fans seem more mixed or negative towards it? If you just get unlucky and end up rolling nothing but Dex and Speed for Lysithea, she can actually become a swordsman rather than being literally useless without the ability to move out of her mage archetype.
I dislike it because every character feels like stat soup...where is the unit IDENTITY

My man, try bringing Boucheron until late game (maddening) and tell me again that he belongs to that tier. He's a very low investment unit, he only needs bow prof to promote to warrior. You don't even need to give him OP emblem, just Marth would suffice. In a game where everybody is hindered by low bld bases/growths, trust me Boucheron don't mind that middling 40% str growth when he can quad with Brave Axe. Also if you still haven't found a use for your Roy engrave, attach that to a +4/5 Steel Bow and watch him destroy flyers and he can still double most wyverns. Early game all he ever needs is a Leif engrave axe and he wouldn't really mind the additional wt. Trust me he's just bad in Firene, but if you consistently use him normally, he'll pull his own weight around mid Brodia.

Vander deserves nothing but the lowest tier. He's effectively worthless as a Jagen because he's already outclassed by like, chapter 3, AND you can beat all early game chapters without giving him a single combat on maddening with no issues whatsoever. His best use case is using him as a weaponless shield occasionally until you have another unit that can take his place, and it really doesn't matter if he survives any encounters. If that isn't the worst unit in the game, I don't know what is.
I would argue Framme and Jean deserve to go up a tier to A. They provide amazing early game utility, level very quickly because they're healers, and can abuse the Micaiah skill that heals you whenever you heal others to chain guard more consistently and more often. They both have different roles they can do later in the game(Framme is more suited to support with bond shield, while Jean can do that as well or branch off into an offensive class due to his nature as a villager trainee), but there's not a point in the game where they fall off or become less useful, and this is all without having to change their class to do so.
Celine is definitely deserving of at least a B rank. She's the number one abuser of the levin sword, which is one of the most powerful weapons in this game. She has a few choices for classes to branch off into, but her unique one provides the coveted mystical class bonus with swords, which means it's levin sword abuse time, baby. No one else can do what she does, so she's wholly unique and deserving of recognition for that alone.
Chloe is an easy S tier. She's one of the best combat units in the game, and she never falls off. All you have to do is make her into a wyvern rider and her offensive stats will snowball into monstrous, but that's not all you can do with her. If you don't mind taking the STR loss, she functions as a good supportive offensive unit in griffon knight, or you can abuse levin sword and change her completely into a mage knight, where she decimates even harder with destructive magic damage across the field. I think there's no equal to her due to her extreme early game availability, meaning even though there are comparable combat units that join you later, she will always have a leg up on growing since you practically start the game with her.
I think Anna is B with an asterisk. IF you do a bunch of tedious shit like recruiting her first and then heal spamming until she's level 10 on Jean's paralogue so she can class change to sage as soon as you get a master and second seal without seeing any combat, she's pretty decent. She'll still take a while to grow, but a fledgling mage is always better than a fledgling warrior in this game, so she can still do good chip and finish off enemies until she catches up. Is it actually worth doing all of this to make her decent? Probably not, in which case I would rate her pretty low because she just requires too much investment to get off the ground, but I still think there are worse units than her. I would accept a C personally.
Lapis is definitely not better than Alcryst. I'm not going to get too into it because this post is long enough, but she deserves C, and he deserves B imo.
Just my thoughts, your reasoning is pretty sound for everyone else. I would maybe lower Ivy a tad, but she's either high A or low S imo.

@@ImportedCheese His bases are so bad that I'm not sure you can even really consider him a Jagen. There's no Jagen in the series that falls off a cliff faster than he does. I'm normally a Jagen enjoyer but I really find him quite worthless in this game.
Saying hero is bad in modern games feels off because it's so good in Awakening and Fates because its skills are broken as all hell

Hero is great in this game as well, thanks to backup shenanigans. Hero getting 2 backup attacks and Lucina's Dual Assist skill means that other units are able to kill much more reliably, and the growths on hero aren't bad either so they can kill units themselves. They shine a lot on maddening due to beefy enemies making it hard for your units to one round things, so getting an extra 20% of their hp at the start of battle makes those bulky bosses a cakewalk.

have you ever used boucheron in maddening? i used him without any dlc and bouche was able to oneround sombron consistently because he can quad with brave axes. i made a 1 min vid demonstrating it, heck i did the same thing later with Leif emblem as well but its not posted.
all people need to do is just use an advanced seal on bouche for zerker or warrior to patch up strength and then keep playing till saphir gives a free brave axe. he consistently one rounds most things with very little investment, just dont make him underleveled and he will always put in alot of work on your team

I think there are a few things i would like to talk about. I think you're undervaluing Chloe a lot, she is by far the best candidate for investment out of the early unit's and engage gives a lot of resource, so you can power level Chloe very easily through the Marth emblem earlygame which gives her tons of exp with Mercurius and also allows her to one round most enemies earlygame and then switching to the Micaiah Emblem when her exp falls off using 5 way heals and Great Sacrifice. She then can use this investment to grind SP and with some Well assistance, get her Sword Power +2/3 and she one rounds literally everything in the game. So basically; her combat is unparalleled for the entire game and she is the best person to get these resources. I would even argue she's the best chararin the game.
I think you're too harsh on Alfred and Celine as well. Their earlygame performance can really shine in a lot of chapters thanks to Celines great base stats and Alfreds great natural bulk and early emblem ring access. In Chapter 4, Alfred is probably your best candidate for the Sigurd ring and you'll want to get momentum on him for Chapter 5, where his lower defense then someone like Louis can make clearing the left side much easier as the sword fighters will not ignore him and with a defense tonic he takes almost no damage at all and thanks to unlocking momentum, can clear out the left side in about 3 turns with careful AI manipulation whereas Louis takes longer by vitue of not being able to enemy phase them. His low speed can also be circumvented through cooking, which by this time can give anyone +2 in speed and Emblem rings like Marth which can really help his situation. This gives Alfred the big boost he needs to keep being offensively relevant, and when he falls off, you can make him a bonded shield bot thanks to his great defense and resistance making enemies not want to target him. He also has access to early skills like Favourite Food which is nice as later units like Goldmary who can also fill this niche do not have this skill until Celica returns. Celine is similar but has much better starting stats making her capable at one rounding most enemies at base. She doesn't hold up in combat long term either so she will most likely be a staff bot with Micaiah's Staff Mastery Skills lategame but her early game contributions are certainly nothing to scoff at.
There are few other things ill briefly talk about; Yunaka has decent combat potential early game but unlike other early units, her promotion is sooo late because of how Thief works, which can hurt her a lot when compared to other units like Zelkov which can beat her in combat after Chapter 11. Because she promotes so late, it's hard to turn her into a staff bot utlizing her skill access or anything like that because her promotion level is simply so late. Zelkov suffers a similar issue but you can power level with Lucina's bow (which Yunaka doesn't reach offensive benchmarks for) if you know what your doing so he at least reaches promotion on time. Lapis also probably deserves to be higher; her main issue is her horrible SP base, but engage gives so many resource's that you can still get her to canter on time. Otherwise, in Wyvern her offensive stats are good and are pretty similar to Kagetsu, although worse, but i would say its enough.
Otherwise good tier list, sorry if i rambled too much in this, i am too obsessed with Engage.

Bunet is the return of a joke unit. And I’m all for it. He has horrid stats and is an absolute menace to society with his supports.
But we need units like Bunet, Shannam and Arden once in a while. Just don’t call him a good unit by any stretch.

Putting seadall at #1 doesn't make sense. Seadall doesn't do any combat. Kagetsu would still be good if there was no dancer, seagull would be completely useless if there were no allies to buff. He can't kill bosses, complete map objectives, he dies super easily. Yes, he is an incredibly strong character, but it's less about what HE does and more about what he makes OTHER units do.
Also I just feel like commenting on your mention of fe3h heroes. Hero in that game actually has 2 very useful traits that no other class has: innate vantage, and defiant strength. Hero can be a legitimate (albeit very situational) end game class if you have access to bat wrath or mastered warrior for wrath. It's not great, but it's genuinely the best end game class for sword users and has a genuinely useful niche for low investment
