I think Majors should be dictated by the number of players and not by the presence of top players. There was about 700 players at Riptide but just because not many top 10 players were here, people don't want to count this as a major. I find that incredibly unfair to all of the good players that actually attended.

Super majors are the same thing but for being a fan of nintendo.
A major is a tournament that is more packed than usual. Some of these tournaments are either invitational or you need to win locals to participate.
Regarding wheter top players need to be in majors to validate a win. The short answer, is yes.
A major is worth nothing if all the participants are just local fodder. So, whenever a character "wins a major" , first you need to see who was competing on that major tournament.

Was riptide a major ? I thought it was just a regional . And wasn’t there like no top TOP players, like anyone in top 10? No disrespect to tilde but I don’t think it was a major
I think Zomba was the only top 10 player there, out of like 700 entrants
It was a weird inbetween, there were the entrants of a major but not so much the top cut. However Luis and Zomba did get outplayed by him
Actually Liquipedia Smash think Riptide 2022 isn't a Major. And yeah, un general isn't because just have Zomba and Tilde there, the most powerful in there. So is just a Regional.

It SHOULD be a major regardless of top 10 players showing up or not, IMO. This tournament had about 700 players... makes no sense to not count it as a major and all it does is give people more reasons to underrate the winners.
Calling riptide a major is a stretch. Sure it had a lot of entrance but it didn't have many top players
