If you're charging thousands of dollars for videos you make, then this is worth it, but for most people the upgrades don't justify the 2.5x price increase!
The improvements and quality are undeniable, but when it goes above $2000, it's hardcore pro equipment! Majority will live with cheaper offerings!

I do TV shows and commercials for a living. Rarely does any show have the budget for a drone like this. Most will only give you and extra 70-300 dollars a day on your day rate. For higher end gigs that I do they have budget to fly an Arri or Red on a drone so in reality there is almost no area that the cost of this drone is justified from professional work.

@@FahadKhan_3007 Make chip need many countries working together. But some block down and some are slow down for shipping.
For the follow-up, can we see more tests of obstacle avoidance? I always appreciate it when somebody with more of a stomach for crashing drones (i.e. you) figures out what features like that are truly capable of. DJI is showing this thing flowing through trees like a Skydio, and I do not trust them.
i think the air 2s is good enough for most users. The mini 2 is exceptionally capable as well

Nano autel is better for me.
I think air 2s is bit of a miss, it doesn't have side sensors which is a big minus and even though its better than Mini 2, its above 250g so you can't fly it in so many places or need special permission for that.
I think more people should watch some of the videos people make with the Mini 2. That thing is ridiculously capable in the right hands.
@@residentJ3553 yeah I agree, Mavic 3 is better for sure, you can see a difference especially at low light, but at sunny weather its not so big and with Air 2S I dont see such a big difference and you cant fly it in so many places so not worth it.
Great video as always. But in the follow up can you focus more on the normal model. Almost no one will want to spend 5k.
Is the only difference the ProRes and pro controller? How much is the pro controller seperately? Does the cheaper model have the same resolution and dual lens abilities? I feel like all the reviews focus on the cine because DJI is sending it to review lersbto make an impression but for most users the fine model is not even a consideration.

The issue is the inspire is only a few hundred more, and has interchangeable lenses and can shoot RAW. If one is at this price point getting the inspire seems like a better investment.

I knew this price increase was coming. I purchased the Mavic 2 Pro last year right before the Pandemic in 2020 and found out the new tariffs caused a 25% increase. The separate fly more kit went up in price by 50% as well. I returned it when the Air 2 came out, even though I missed the better low light. I think DJI knows that Air 2 and Air 2S are great for 90% of film-makers, so they moved the Mavic 3 up market, which means they don't have to sell as many units, but capture higher margins.
Besides the sensor, the Air 2 lacks variable aperture and 10 bit color/DLOG that the 2 Pro has... it's a game changer for many film makers
idk how much that affects things the list price in china is the same and they don't have to pay tariffs and stuff

@@AndersSteenHansen you're right my bad I forgot the air2s does have 10 bit color. I would hate not to have a variable aperture though. Besides changing lenses, that's the most important part for adjusting your exposure when shooting video, if you're trying to keep a consistent shutter speed. I will agree with you though, I really wish my mavic 2 Pro could shoot 4k60... But for what I do it's usually not much of a hindrance. When I need my slo-mos I'll use 1080/120 or 2.7k/60 and it for the most part meets my needs. I would definitely be lying though if I said I didn't want 4k60 and 2.7k/120.... I also wish I had digital zoom available in the app like the Air 2S. I don't understand why DJI didn't add that to the Mavic 2 Pro... There's no reason they couldn't have... It would definitely save time in post if I didn't have to manually go in and add a zoom or dolly effect to my shots.

I’m a professional photographer and have a Mavic Pro 2, but I still have a lot to learn. I watched countless videos on RUclips for the past 20 years on photo/video equipment and the vast majority of people just piss me off. I think they really missed the mark (or are protecting the future Inspire 3) with this drone. I'm a professional wildlife film maker and there are so many things about this drone that are so close but just not quite there. Circular polarizer will need to be delivered for those of us who regularly shoot over the ocean. The tele lens is totally useless and probably doesn't have the hardware to change aperture. This will make for a very good backup drone, but the vast majority of us will continue to use the Inspire 2 with x7 and RAW shooting. Would like to know how the wide converter lens looks, especially with flare/bright conditions (does it reflect? too much CA? etc)

Totally agree. Why wouldn’t they have made that top lens a 50mm or even 85mm or work thing semi useful I feel like canceling my order I’m nauseous a bit thinking I just spent $5600 on this.
Agreed, but there’s something to be said for ProRes on a more portable platform. I love renting and using Inspire, but there are a lot of jobs where I can’t dedicate an entire large pelican case to one drone. Squeezing every bit of quality out of a small package has a lot of value.
I just don't get why they're still pushing that terrible Mavic RC, the joysticks on that thing are terrible and the monitor placement on the pro model is horrendous.

I'm really disappointed that they attached the 1TB of internal storage AND the new Smart DJI RC Pro Controller with the ProRes, that was pretty snakey of DJI. As a real estate photographer/other contractor, agents do not care about ProRes color grading, you can make it look incredible without it and it makes more sense in terms of workflow vs quality to not really use ProRes. However, the 1TB and upgraded smart controller are very nice PRO features to have, even if they charged $3500-$4000. $5k for Cine is just silly unless you really need ProRes specifically, and more than likely it's just going to be used for actual films. In short, we really need some better competition against DJI so they are forced to make better PRO decisions for their user base. Cheers
You can get a large high quality sd card, you really don’t need a 1tb ssd. That is needed for 5.1k footage as sd cards would struggle with the high bitrate
@@29mailman You don't know my workflow, or how I have film - I work multiple types of contracts and the SSD would be excellent. Although the SD Card was still my final solution to avoid $5k/ProRes, it's still not okay in my book. However, it turns out their new "DJI RC Pro" (controller) is ONLY with the Cine package as well. This is actually pretty terrible, as I was able to at least get the smart controller with my Mavic 2 Pro for $2500-3000, and this controller is a very nice/much needed upgrade from the other. They're likely to offer more combo options much later on, but this is exactly the problem. There's absolutely no justification for this when you can easily charge for different packages - they greedily want that $5k. Can' t wait for competition. Cheers
@@willfullyinformed I agree with you that they should be more flexible in their lineup, but you can get uber-fast 1TB micro sd cards, the SSD is really only necessary to keep up with the high bitrate of 5.1k ProRes footage. It is a shame that the current controller with a built-in screen is not compatible but understandable as they have changed the RF technology
You could consider the Autel Evo 2 Pro. I researched a ton between going with the Mavic 2 Pro and Autel Evo 2 Pro, and the 6k 1" sensor on the Autel is pretty damn incredible. I will say, the stock controller isn't as fancy, and it lacks some of the nice gimbal controls of the DJI, but at $1,800 USD for the 2 battery/2 extra blades kit, it's tough to beat. The footage is fantastic, the 360 degrees collision avoidance is superb, and flying it is just... fun. Do note however, I am not a fanboy. I just buy whatever tool suits my workflow better. But a lot of people overlook (or aren't even aware of) the Autel Evo 2 Pro. It has a very good Log profile, h.264 and h.265, etc. Anyway, hope you find a good solution!

As an air 2s drone pilot, this price tag doesn’t seem justifiable at all. To most, it would be very hard to tell the difference footage wise. 5.4 k is plenty for my clients. The telephoto is cool, but I have digital zoom for the rare cases I need it. The telephoto doesn’t seem worth 5k to me
The standard version is $2,000 which makes a lot more sense

@@dooflexible If something has a terrible quality you need a more skilled person to shoot to get the best you can get out of this drone. As long as you don't overexpose your shots the quality on Mavic Pro is decent.
@@ThinLineMedia you can get a decent image from it for small screen social media. on a computer screen it is full of compression artifacts and over all a very dirty image, its very low in actual resolution.
so yeah you can shoot skies with it.. but not trees or any details.

I love how dji keeps pushing the boundaries, and even though I will not be able to get my hands on that drone any time soon, some of the technology will pass on to the more affordable drones. This thing is next level

Like a lot of folks, I was pretty shocked by the price but then I got to thinking. I realize a lot of people have gotten into quads in the last few years and don't have a lot of the real history of them but I first started flying multirotors in 2010 and back then when the original Phantom came out in 2013 at $695, I was blown away. I bought one when it dropped to $350 and it was amazing to me. Now, if you look at what the original cost of the Phantom was and what it was/is capable of and then compare it to what the Mavic 3 costs and what it can do, you will realize that the price is pretty great for that performance. I still have my P1, no camera, battery lasts about 8 minutes, but it had GPS which was so F'in cool and kind of revolutionary at the time. You could fly it with no skill and not have to ride the sticks constantly like all my other birds. Start making a list of all the features on the M3 and all of the things it can do and it will be quite a long list in comparison. Like a 100X the performance and capabilities for a little over 3X the price of the P1. When I started to put it into perspective, maybe I will buy the M3.

Ok this is not at all what i was hoping for or expecting but still a lot of good here....
Battery life is pretty insane, it seems like at this rate by the mavic 5-6 we may get an hour of flight time which is nuts.
5k i do not care about, but that sensor is obviously fantastic, are we basically getting close to APS-C mirrorless level sensors on a drone body now? Same size as micro 4/3 now right?
Prores on a drone is something i didn't realize i even wanted since i hadn't considered it could be possible yet.
But that price is flat out unacceptable tho. That price point makes all of this significantly less impressive. Just go buy a goddamn inspire and you can get the modular / interchangeable lenses we were all hoping for.

especially since the max takeoff weight is listed at 8.8lbs.

@@baqcasankeHere in Australia, flying commercially up to 2kg requires a licence, when i did mine the going rate was at least a few grand, over 2kg requires radio licence + RPAS operator certificate (ongoing paperwork nightmare) + last time i looked it cost $2650AUD. Over 7kg requires more training and certification = more $$$, THEN there is insurance. Lol.
The sub 2kg(4.4lbs) category is much more wallet friendly.
If you want you can fly your expensive inspire for fun over your own property provided your licenced and maning the aviation radio. And report your intention to operate drones in a particular area to the aviation authority. Ohh and now you have to register your drones, for fun $, commercially $$$.

12:15 Course Lock and Home Lock modes will allow you to point the camera at different angles while flying. This feature has been part of the DJI software since before the first Phantom came out.

i doubt about firmware updates. They already completely abandoned pocket 2, no updates since may. Active track there still glitchy as hell and still no proper hdr mode.

Thanks potato, you saved me 3000-5000 dollars. After seeing this video and comparing it to my Mavic 2 with pro controller its not worth the upgrade. I literally had it in my cart and was about to pay.
No one is going to pay for this. I have no idea what DJI was thinking with their pricing. If they didn't kneecap the software on the non cine version it absolutely would've sold like hotcakes but they removed prores and 5.1k on a drone with literally the same sensor so they could upsell to a price bracket that straight up doesn't make sense.
after watching 10:50 I wouldn't pay even 30% of that price for this drone ;)))
@@Ben-rz9cf yes way over priced and I just ran some of my recent Mavic 2 footage though a heavy grade in Davinci and I really don't think this drone will have to much of a noticeable difference.
@@shelekhov I don't get what they were thinking with the zoom camera I thought it was doing to be awesome but I don't know what's going on with how they have it setup

To put the video quality in context: I remember TV in the early 1960s (UK). It was like watching a blurry black and white image through a snow storm. The TV cameras were mostly so big they weren't really portable. Now you can get high quality flying cameras for pretty much a weeks wage.

Exactly, I think the air2s is still great option for someone with medium budget. Just get more extra batteries and thats it. Mavic 3 is just an art for art.
