He is absolutely right about primus being americana. I have been describing them as possibly the most americana band possible for a while without ever hearing anyone else say it. It makes me happy to know les knows this to the point that he stood firmly on it. They are incredibly Americana. Honestly, the only way to not know that is probably by living in big cities your whole life. Their songs absolutely represent rural america extremely well.
My favorite interviewer with Les Claypool. He knew what he was talking about, engaged greatly, allowed Les to respond properly, good energy, and very respectful.
I dont know why people think Primus is only Les Claypool??? Larry Lalonde and Tim Alexander are just as much of the Primus "sound". Of course it helps that Les Claypool is the very best at his craft. But Primus is all 3..... Les, Ler, and Tim
there are certain people that I cannot get enough of, Les is one of them. love watching this man play bass, sing, talk heck even stand there and look around.
i honestly don't even listen to primus. however, i respect them for doing what they want. i feel like they always have, and Les is pretty interesting on his own.
I love how Primus seems to be getting stronger since Green Naugahyde. I'm sure the entire Music community will appreciate them FARTHER down the line. Wonka album was amazing and I can't wait for the next Primus album.
How did you like The Desaturating Seven? I personally LOVED The Trek and The Storm. Kinda wish there was more than just 7 tracks but I get it. They had a theme that they wanted to stick to
And then there are us Primus fans that WANT to hear that blending of Claypool's side bands and Primus. I love the addition of the Fungi Ensemble. I want to hear an all original Primus album with those guys. And bring on the Skerik!
DATONE GAMER I don't even know how you could say that. Les is actually a really cool guy. Maynard is a troll that looks down his nose at everyone he meets.
What a down to Earth dude. Great interview! I am 46 and some say I look like him. It was funny to see his facial hair gray at the same rate as mine too. Sometimes I wonder, being adopted, if we have the same family or genes...I play bass too...and I take control vs. being the bass player "turned down"...
It seemed as if Les was first had a wall up and was feeling out this interviewer at first and he proved himself and then you see Les's attitude change and open up.
I saw Primus in Perth Western Australia a few years back when Ween (Dean I think) played opening. IT ROCKED, I love Primus. Cameo in Bill and Ted ROCKED!!
Good for you Guy's for taking your own path and coming up with some absofuckinglutely awesome music. Truly inspiring! I just wish that paid attention more when I was a youth and learned more about reading, understanding and playing music.
I am one of those poor individuals who has enjoyed what has come out of the world of Les Claypool and Primus for almost 20 years. New Album eh? get a load of this!
1984... wow. 3rd grade. I think I got my first bicycle that year and the radio station played the shit out of Duran Duran, Madonna, and MJ. Interesting to imagine that somewhere in the world Primus was being formed.
@@kakyoinsmenacingpaintbrush88 And that wasn't my point, btw. It was that 1984 looked and sounded very different than the years that bands like Primus were becoming known, but I suppose you might not understand what I'm talking about. A lot changed from the 80s to the 90s.
Imo Mumford and Sons is more just folk to me. I've never really pictured them as Americana. Especially when Wilder Mind came out. They shifted their tone to more indie rock I think.
Les was NOT in "interview mode" for this-he seems a little peeved. Kyle probably wasn't born when Primus released Suck on This. I have Frizzle Fry on red vinyl and got it when I was 22. Changed my life. Before then, I felt the same way Les did. Geddy Lee is the best bass player, ever.
I was about 10 when Frizzle arrived. It did take a moment for the interview to warm up. The followup interview with him and Sean Lennon was quite a bit better, not that I didn’t enjoy this one. I remember us cutting up some after the cameras were off.
It all depends on whose list you're reading. Technically he didn't really pioneer any of the techniques he uses, like Victor Wooten with the double thump. But he definitely deserves credit for getting the slap/pop/flamenco strumming combo into heavy music. Jaco didn't invent harmonics but he put them on the map, so in my books they're in the same league
@@wynonasbigbrowndragon6121 the one thing that makes Les better than all of these, in one aspect, he created an entire sound and world out of the bass, something that no matter how good the others where, they didn´t.they are extremely talented playing, but making an entire unique new sound, that none can replicate...uh..that is Les
@@bobwilson7684 I disagree. And I'm saying this as a guy whose favourite bass player is Mr. Claypool. Not that I disagree that Les deserves the honour, but you really aren't giving the other guys the credit they deserve. Like I said, Jaco didn't invent harmonics. But the way he used them established a sound that was truly his own. Listen to, "A Portrait Of Tracy". Nobody was writing harmonic dominated tunes like that before Jaco came along. And anybody who did it since was seen as channeling Jaco. It may seem more conventional now, but back in the day he was trailblazing with that stuff.
I saw Primus opening for Anthrax and Public Enemy and they were better than both of them. I think the BeeGees makes perfect sense for them to do a cover of.
