@@torontotonto6189 That would be fucking incredible. I couldn't possibly be a bigger fan of Tom Waits. "Big In Japan" is my favourite Waits song because it's just PRIMUS with Waits' lyrics and vocals. Mule Variations is just a perfect album. Waits has many of those. -
Stop telling the man what to do! He doesnt work for you! If you enjoy his art, then stop acting like he needs to punch a clock and make anything for you amusement! How about you try to make anything as incredible as he has in his very long career rather than cry and put expectations on his head.
Mr. Claypool. I had purchased two tickets for my son and I to see Primus play a farewell to kings tour in Detroit. It would’ve been the fourth tour I brought my son to see you guys. Unfortunately due to covid restrictions and being Canadian I had to just gave away our tickets. I’m glad your son told you to sing the Rush songs as you naturally sound. I’m jealous of the people that had the opportunity to watch you perform the kings album. Lar, herb and you are all amazing musicians. Thanks for being such great people
Primus is my favorite band of all time and greatest inspiration, when I discovered the Claypool Lennon Delerium I was ecstatic and landed high on my most listened to and loved songs, oysterhead, fancy band, fungi ensemble are cherished projects and this has got to be the best damn news I've heard since Yes put out a new album!
What a great, great, great interview!!! One of the best I've been able to see. It's nice to have an interviewer who is also a fan. I can't wait for CONSPIRANOIA!!!
Thank you for posting! Awesome interview. Always appreciate you letting your guests talk and fully flesh out their thoughts. You never talk over them. And it’s even more of a plus that you know what you’re talking about when interviewing whomever! Keep up the good work! Also Les Claypool is such a humble, relaxed guy.
@steveothebassist if I remember correctly they only teased it. Cause I can remember Herb comin' in with the basic drum part first and I had no idea what song they were goin' into. I think they just played up to the 1st verse at most
FYI - I was at Rush/Primus 92 in Dallas. I had never heard of Primus. They dropped my jaw and gave me the chills. Blew my mind. And now, 30 years later, I've seen them more than ANY other band in my life, going on 16 shows.
I got to see Primus open for Rush (Good night!) Les walked out on stage and said "Ya knooo... I've always wanted to cover me one o' them ole Led Zepplin tunes" And they busted out Kashmir with Les using a bow.
I got to meet Primus in the Nov of 1991, the tour before they opened for Rush (Primus was always opening for Fishbone back in those days.). I had met Rush back in 1979. The Primus guys were SO EXCITED when they heard I had met Rush. We all sat around for an hour on the loading dock and geeked out over Rush. All the Rush guys and the Primus guys are a bunch of mensches ;)
Super excited for the documentary!! Even more excited that Les' son is directing it! I can't wait to see them this summer when they come to NorCal. Thank you so much for the interview😊
Great interview. Man, I’ve been waiting for a new Oysterhead record ever since the first one. Great playing, totally original, and most importantly Great Songs front to back, damn ..it was almost as life changing to me as Primus was to me as a kid…. I’ll hold out hope.. ..and I know not a damn person cares or should care about this comment, so apologies to those who read it.
Thx for this interview kyle and thank you as well mr claypool not just for the interview but a lifetime of some of the best music ever to hit my eardrums if not the best you sir are a legend , definitely looking forward to more music from all involved in your music i am very grateful 🙏✌
Love Miscellaneous and Rhinoplasty. One of the exact reasons is precisely what Les said, they tweaked the songs to sound like them and didn't just play it note for note.
My first Rush show was in 1992 at the Dean Dome in Chapel Hill NC. Primus opened…and they were awesome! First time I heard Primus and fell in love with them! Great interview. 😎
Fantastic interview. I just got to see them live for the first time last year at the greek and it was a fantastic show. I plan on going to the Santa Barbara show later this year
Les has to be one of the nicest people in rock. I’d love to take him fishing here really close to Indianapolis.Thing about Les that’s different from everyone else is he actually plays and makes songs that actually sound like his influencers. Everyone else says who influenced them and doesn’t sound anything like them! The Claypool Lennon Delirium is Fucking amazing!!!
LES CLAYPOOL IS THE JIMI HENDRIX/JIMMY PAGE/GEDDY LEE OF THE BASS GUITAR I AM INSPIRED AT 65 Y/O TO GO BY MY FIRST BASS GUITAR, I PLAY THE HARMONICA BUT MR CLAYPOOL IS THE GREATEST THUMPER OF ALL TIME!!!!!
What a fantastic interview! In a world full of substandard q&a videos, this easts those for breakfast. Conducted like a total pro. And Les, you’re aging very very well, sir! How do you do it?
There's this adage about not meeting people who you might have a big appreciation of (heroes is a really weird concept from my viewpoint), but I'd gladly make an exception to exchange a few words with Mister Claypool, even if I probably wouldn't know what to say to him just like him with Peter Gabriel. IRL, I'd certainly just be able to give him a big hug, and that will make my day, tho. There's something about him I can't pinpoint that is telling me he's never faking anything, just he's himself and DGAF about delivering what people want to hear from him. And his Dukes of Stratosphear reference is making me realize he wasn't just influenced by Pink Floyd and King Crimson on his work with Sean Lennon. His opinion on Bernie Worrell really got me about the essence and experience of human people, not only the musician side. Les is really more. I also really appreciate how he's working on his voice and taking advices from his son, many people (even Primus fans) are giving crap to Les about his singing abilities while they don't realize how much of an awesome vocalist (not singer as a standard acceptance of the word) he is. Les has somewhat the same kind of curse Jimi Hendrix had, just because you're a virtuoso on your musical instrument, it shouldn't undermine how much dedication you're putting on expressing your voice, and how you're dealing with its perks, fails and quirks to get it like you intend to do. That Mel Blanc analogy is really spot-on, I'd love to hear Les dubbing a Bugs Bunny or, even better, a Screwy Squirrel cartoon. This is the first time I watch one of the interviews you're doing, Kyle. But I'm amazed about how specific you're focused on things that aren't well known about Les, especially the covers of other artists or bands. Looks like I've just struck gold on interviewers who know how to properly do their job, a bit like Soft White Underbelly YT channel that let people really expressing themselves instead of constantly cutting them off to make the interview about themselves and not the person they're interviewing. Keep up the good work! Ciao.
Anyone notice Les's chair growls and croaks like its full of FROGS? My two great discoveries during the pandemic / damnpanic were Les Claypool and Billy Strings. (LC's novel is fantastic, Tarantino should make a movie out of that). LC is genius grade. The future is bright. Very bright. Hopefully...
Just came across this being a native to Kentuckyana, don't call it Louis-ville. I live outside Knoxville, TN, and we actually have a town by the same name. But pronounced differently. Rock on Les, as long as you enjoy it. Don't need those fire roads now.
Two things; The Miscellaneous Debris cover of "Have a Cigar" is one of my desert island tracks. "Delicate Tendrils" is a mfmasterpiece. What is the characters name in Tendrils? He's real AF. I went to high school with him. He corroded his liver, and several other vital organs, though. I saw Primus, with Helmet, at The Charlotte Hornets Practice Facility, on mushrooms, for one of my several Bachelor Parties. It was a wild night. The little people roaming the venue caused me to go hide in the nose bleed section and trance out on the glorious suckage. One of my top three concert trips.
I don't mind the idea of putting out a new single or a few songs out at a time vs waiting for a full album every 5 or 13 years. Just hope it consistent. 25 year+ Primus fan here, I don't mind new albums of new material either lol.
Saw Primus open for rush in 92 at the Dean dome in Chapel Hill North Carolina I was like who are these guys who's this guy tearing up the base with this raccoon hat on. Been a Primus sense
Les Claypool is an awesome bassist, I still would have loved to see him play in Metallica though. I have never seen Primus live, because they have never been to South Africa.
He isn’t very specific, he just says he’s working on an animated project with Sean. No word on the drummer and keyboardist, the delirium drummer has worked with Les for years I don’t see that changing. I’m worried about the keyboard player, if you look at his past stuff he has a big part in that stuff, but in the delirium I don’t think he’s got a lot of creative input. Idk it’s just a hunch, I know the delirium almost broke up back in 2019, so we may never see another delirium record.
Dukes Of Stratosphere, is amazing! Still have my copy of 25 O'clock. got it about a year after it's release. Have not heard the Primus Rush stuff yet. Any one know if Primus, covers The Residents? I know they are fans.
At 17:40, Les talks about the song Ding Dang's message about how bullying can effect how someone turns out in life. What about a boy growing up in an environment in which the father is the bully? Then he's bullied at school. I would imagine it would severely impact his worldview.
Thank you for watching! If you liked it, PLEASE SUBSCRIBE! I’m posting three new interviews every week!
Make a full-blown album. I am definitely one of the MANY people who would love to see an entire new PRIMUS album performed live. We need it! -
Yeah, like, wtf is he talking about??? What Primus fan wouldn't want to see a whole album live? I did not and could not miss Desaturating Seven.
@@El_Hicks That's what I'm sayin'. N I saw Desaturating Seven performed live twice. It was fuckin' incredible. -
Claypool should make tom waits project

Can't wait for the Primus documentary! Heck I might even be in it after 95+ times seeing them live!

I saw them in Indianapolis on that tour. They did a two minute cover of Master of puppets, with Les slapping that riff.
