For what it’s worth, this series has paved the way for hockey gaining a lot more fans. Many people who have never watched a game are tuning in because they want to see the impossible, or see what they thought was impossible in the talent on the ice. We will look back at this 10 years from now very fondly.

@@otaviofrn_advthis series is as good as the advertisements have been, big game feels each night, storylines of Stu, McDavid, Bob and Barky feeding into the mainstream. Every game not being an eyesore and watching people play like their body doesn’t matter. Players like Brown, Broberg and OEL getting some redemption after being written off. The best player in the world getting primetime focus. This is the first year I truly got into the sport and I’m so glad I did.

Thats your assumption. I have watched hockey since 1971. a long termer. and I liked the league more in the 1970s-1990s than now. NHL to be like most things has become greedy. priced out of games also. And I from Boston Hartford became a Panthers fan as my wife is from Florida and I 've been so angered at Panthers in last 3 games I had to turn the game off tonight mid way. So you're loving it I assume says you're an Oiler fan. Congratulations on your glee. like the Panthers owner I wanted to throw a water bottle at the wall. I'm angry at Panthers for stupid penalties and not on their game saying howe could you let this happen? I also assume you are young and were not around to know hockey in 1970s-1990s.

I started watching hockey because a friend of mine from another country used to play the game. My country doesn't have a hockey tradition, but I knew the game already, but didn't know any of its history or rules. Went through days and days watching and reading, even bought a copy of NHL 20 so I could play it. Picked the Panthers as a team of choice because I liked the aesthetics and because it was the team that chose to acquire me in the Be A Pro mode. I enjoyed watching old clips, I enjoyed watching them play, I even managed to listen to all games that didn't happen to be on TV via the NHL app. I devoted precious time, time that I could have spent studying for tests, time that I could have spent on myself, among other stuff. I was very excited to see that all Panthers playoffs games were going to be on TV, and even my dad, who doesn't know anything about hockey, he started cheering for them too, as I explained things to him during the games and we saw how this team made this insane run to the Finals again. But... I just can't take it anymore.
The Panthers' history is a very sad one, a team that had everything to be good, but unfortunately, appears to be cursed. Game 7, something I did not want to happen, is upon us. We're looking at 2 possibilities: the Panthers' first cup, or the Panthers' downfall. Yes, the downfall, as this choke might actually send the team back into relocation talks, if they somehow don't fold completely (which would unironically break two 1942 records: the first choked 3-0 lead since 1942 and the first franchise to fold completely since the Brooklyn Americans in 1942). Oilers fans have 5 cups to brag about.

not going to fold, not going to move. Florida is a place players want to play for the lower taxes, mild winter weather (they all live in communities that have boat docks in their back yards), and anonymity in the community, which they get none of those things playing in Canada. The Stanley Cup is incredibly hard to win, getting to the Finals two years in a row is a big deal. They will be a strong team again next year and considered to be a contender for sure.

When the Panthers played for the cup in 96; was rooting hard for them over here. Vanbiesbrouck tried but the team just wasn't ready.
Can not root for them this year; or any year until they clean up their game. Their "anything to win" mentality has led them to become a crew of dirty-hitting, cheap-shotting dive artists with few redeeming qualities. It's embarrassing for the state of Florida; capped off by the moment when the fans in Sunrise booed during the Canadian national anthem.
Go Oilers, get the cup and take it home to Canada.

A few takes on your comment from a lifelong Oilers fan who was fortunate enough to remember their cup wins in ‘88 and ‘90.
-Teams in the NHL don’t fold anymore. It could happen, but it’s very unlikely. Relocations alone aren’t so common neither. Bettman loves Sun Belt US teams (look at the decades-long Coyotes debacle). The Panthers (as well as the Oilers) are both elite teams. Unless Florida decides to “retool” or “rebuild” (which would be foolish IMO), they won’t suddenly collapse. If they do lose Game 7 (which is very possible), there isn’t any reason to not expect them to be in the playoffs and do a deep run again next season. But, if one looks at the morale, having a 3-0 series lead in the Final and losing the series 4-3 could really play mind games on the players, and perhaps even the coaching and management staffs. It’s not really chartered waters, it only happened once before in the Finals in ‘42 where all of those players have since passed sway and not a lot of people living would have even listened to the games on radio (no TV then).
However, don’t consider it a choke. Edmonton is a very dangerous team and have been considered cup favourites by many respected hockey pundits for the last two or three years. Remember, Edmonton is a very deep team that has went through both a lot of diversity and a lot of insanely good play this season.
I wouldn’t really be concerned about the Panthers. If their on ice play fumbles and they start missing the playoffs frequently as they did in the not so distant past, then MAYBE I would be concerned about a possible relocation. Until then, enjoy the ride and cheers from one hockey fan to another. Don’t stop believing. The Panthers are going to be a very dangerous team for at least a few years yet.

It might be a drastic statement, but to me, the Panthers are playing for their franchise on Monday night. No team is getting back to a 3rd Cup Final after losing 2 of em in a row. And with the changes coming with Reinhart and Montour probably leaving, Bob not getting any younger and Knight likely not being the successor like they thought and just this overall cloud that these last 3 games have created. They might never recover from this if they lose Monday night. Probably a solid team moving forward but not a Cup contender anymore.

If you really want to understand the depths of frustration on the Panthers, it was displayed by Paul Morrice's completely unhinged, screaming tirade on the bench after the offside goal was disallowed. That was more than rage about what Paul felt was a bad call. It was an opportunity for him to vent his rage and total frustration about the Panthers losing three games in a row, and now on the verge of losing the Stanley Cup. Lead by a great staff. Truly impressive to see live. I’m sure many of us thought “if any team can reverse sweep it’s this one.” Their game has gone from “out score our problems” to “you all can play d.. let me teach you..” and this is clearly the path going forward for any other team that actually wants to win the cup. Everyone must put in the effort on every foot of the ice or they’re leaving effort in the tank. Shorter shifts and harder effort are the way forward. It’s why hockey is so special. Going into game 4 I knew they wouldn’t get swept, I didn’t expect the blowout or the comeback. And going into this series, I wouldn’t have thought either team could lose 4 in a row. But now I’m really trying not to get my hopes up, even though I fully believe they can do it. Game 7 could be a different story, no way the cats just sit back and play as lacklustre as they did last night

Monday night is gonna be historic. Every hockey fan anywhere should be watching. Either the Panthers get their first ever championship (amazing option one) and the most winningest regular season coach without a ring gets his ring (Maurice)
    OR
The Edmonton Oilers summit Everest. They do the impossible. They complete the miracle. The first team since 1942 to come all the way back from 3-0 down in a cup final. The second Canadian team to do it (which would be WILD, I'd love that as a bit of trivia) in a cup final, and only the fifth team in NHL history and the sixth team every in all 3 of the sports that do best of seven playoff series (MLB or NBA has one cannot remember which) to come all the way back from being down 3 games to 0 in a best of 7.
This series has been history making already. The oilers shattering all record books for the penalty kill, over 93% are you absolutely kidding me. They are only on a -1 goal differential when shorthanded! That's absurd. Thats ridiculous, that should be illegal. They've given up 4 powerplay goals all playoffs and have scored 3 shorthanded goals. Wild.
Mcdavid breaking the record for assists in a playoff run and he has a game left to add to that gap. The man had 8 points in games four and five combined. Fucking 8!!! That's silly. That's wild. In two games he turned into a point per game player in this series. More than a point per game, even with this going seven. That's just absolutely absurd. That's a captain putting his team on his back and more or less willing his team to defy death. And they did. And it seems to have inspired his teammates up and down the lineup, cause as Shannon said game six? They didn't need him on the score sheet. Guys like Foegele, guys like Henrique, these depth guys have bought into the belief Mcdavid has basically forced down their throats and they are all in and were absolutely heroic in game six. Nugent-Hopkins has been under the radar an absolute puck eating defensive zone breakout preventing monster, just consuming breakout attempts by the Panthers out of their end like the cookie monster on a box of chocolate chip cookies. Skinner has come alive in these last three games, just refusing to lie down and die, no fear, absolute ice water in his veins! This series has been wild, chapter 1 saw the panthers dominate. Chapter two sees the oilers, led by their captain, rise from the dead. Now we get a hell of an ending stanza in Florida on Monday night.
That game is can't miss for anyone who loves playoff hockey, you have to watch it. Don't matter if you gotta be late to work on Tuesday, don't matter. You gotta watch it.

I really think the momentum turned after EDM scored those 2 goals in the 3rd period of Game 3. Remember, the narrative was all about how the OIlers were outplaying the Panthers at times but they just couldn't get it going against Bobrovsky. It looked like Bob was in the heads of all the Oilers players but once they cracked the code as it were, things changed.
I do wonder what would've happened tonight if Barkov's goal wasn't taken away. It was clearly the right call but if Barkov's goal had counted then things might've gotten REALLY interesting. Got to give the Edmonton crowd their flowers. They were crazy loud in the Dallas series and willed the Oilers to victory in one of the games and they've been a factor in the SCF as well.
I'm really hoping the OIlers can pull off the impossible.

1942 and 1945. Leafs beat choker Red Wings in 42 after being down 0-3, and Red Wings came back from 0-3 only to lose game 7 in 1945.
Both scenarios have played out before in this very league.

@@aonstability5428no one will remember this as a choke if the Panthers win the cup in game 7. I’d argue it is an Oilers choke if they don’t finish the comeback now.

It seems the Oilers have the mentality of "there's still one more game after this" going to game seven. Nobody's way too happy. In game 4, I noticed how McDavid was just sat while the others were celebrating a goal (can't remember which one). Absolutely cold and hard.
Meanwhile, Panthers are absolutely pressured - they've had 3 games to put this away now, and that empty netter from game 5 was yet another dagger to their morale.

The difference can even be seen from the coaches' behavior. Kloblauch is all peaceful and in control even when losing and he doesn't let victory go to his head either. Meanwhile, Paul Maurice is getting angrier at every game and I'm almost expecting him to get kicked out by the refs during game 7.

I'm seeing a lot of people talk about hockey that I've never seen talk about hockey. The best player in the world on a team coming back from down 0-3, Canada not having a cup for 30 years... this is going to be a very fun game 7.

What an absolute pleasure of a final. And I’m an isles fan haha. Most of the rest of my fam and friends are leafs or habs. But we’re all loving this hockey!! I’m happy for either team to win, and grateful for the full 7. Thanks THG!!!
