  • This is the second video of the renovation of our 2008 Jayco Select 12HW. In this video we completely re-do the flooring in our pop up camper with a backed click-together vinyl plank flooring, which is “winding brook” made by Trafficmaster. We then trimmed out the vinyl plank flooring utilizing a 1/2” PVC quarter-round trim, which is water-proof just like the vinyl plank flooring and great for in the camper. Along with the vinyl plank flooring, we re-carpeted the two steps leading up to our bunks, which cover the cables in the roof lift system. For this renovation, we used a touch over two boxes of vinyl plank flooring. If I recall correctly, it was approximately 35 planks and 16 came (24 sq. Ft.) in each box. As a result, we added approximately 75lbs of additional dry weight to our pop up camper. We like utilizing the vinyl plank flooring because the temperature range it states it can withstand are greater than that of peel and stick flooring. With regard to the PVC trim, we utilized a total of four 8’ lengths of trim. Finally, we finished out the trim with a latex caulk, which is paintable if need be, to cover some of the gaps and brad nail holes. Speaking of brad nails, we attached the PVC trim with 1 1/2” 18ga brad nails. I think you could get away with 1” or 1 1/4” brad nails as well.

    Awesome, I have been wondering about this! With the camper spending most of it’s days in Phoenix and extreme heat, glue backed flooring is not an option. I as well was worried about clearance issues. Thanks for the video!!

    That looked awesome finishing off with the quarter round and cock was perfect I put carpet in our pop up I just cut a piece out the same shapes and dimensions as the floor and laid it down like a giant rug so when it gets old and raggedy I just take the carpet out trace it on another piece of carpet and put a new one in I don't know if you have any carpet videos for pop-ups 😆

    Looks great. We are going to tackle the flooring this winter, so says Wife. I have got to quit letting her watch your videos with me. I like your explanations of the cuts that were required. Where did you get the flooring, and what was the name of it, if you do not mind shareing? Thanks again for all that you share with our popup Family. As always, Bless you and yours, and our popup Family. Hope to see you out there.

    So its been 2 years. How is your flooring holding up? If you had it to do over, what would you do different? I am getting ready to do the floor on my 2003 Rockwood. If i pull the old linoleum up, it has some holes, do i need a moisture barrier? Any thought or ideas appreciated. I enjoy all your vids. Very informative. Hope all is well with you.

      We just saw this camper a coupler of weeks ago and the floor is still doing well. I don’t think I’d worry about a moisture barrier in a pop up.

    Any specific reason for using quarter round and caulking vs. just leaving a minimal gap (i.e. flooring flush to the cabinets) and caulking the gap?

    • @1324jm
      @1324jm 2 года назад +3

      I just finished installing similar flooring in my sunroom. We have to leave a 1/4 gap between the edge of the flooring and the cabinets because temperature changes cause the flooring to shrink and expand. There's a risk that your flooring would buckle if the flooring is flush with the cabinets. Conversely, if you installed it flush in 100+ degree heat, the flooring would shrink in cooler temps and pull the caulk apart. I wouldn't caulk between the quarter round and the floor, but would caulk the 1/4 round to the cabinet. You probably already got your answer, but in case not I hope this helps.
