      She should take them to small claims court for damaging her business with slanderous comments. $200 for a wedding cake is a heck of a good deal! I don't know what it looked like, but since it was eaten, it must have been fine.
      Some bakers would have charged a $200 fee on top of the price just for it being last minute. Bridezilla agreed to that price, she should pay it AND give the baker a nice tip for accommodating her at the last minute.
      The baker sounds like a very nice person who is being taken advantage of. I hope this story turns around, and she gets MORE business from good paying customers because she proved to be reliable and very reasonable.

    Here is a message from my boss last night regarding free publicity: "If you're feeling brave and adventurous … tomorrow there is a fashion show you can do makeup at for my designer friends models. It, pays no money but it’s good for clout, exposure and making connections. No pressure at all. I did one of her shows two years ago and it was a pretty awesome experience."
    When I get to do things like this without getting paid- it's worth it, I love the experience. I didn't even do my own sister's makeup at all let alone for free at her wedding. There is a difference between free experience and portfolio opportunities and getting scammed by people who act like they're doing you a favor by doing so.

    When I was on college in the 90s, I worked for THE florist in my hometown when I was home for holidays. We did a wedding for a beauty queen, a Miss America finalist. They had a huge, expensive wedding. The flower bill was around 50k. The parents actually came in after getting the bill and argued over a couple of hundred dollars. We took that off but every time the mom or dad called after to order flowers, we quoted them 3 to 5 dollars more than we normally charged and explicitly stated the amount. In the long run, they spent way more than if they had just paid their bill.

    I 'liked' the bride who spent her wedding's budget on her dress, and so demanded everyone else work for free. So many brides have the notion that their wedding is actually a British style Coronation, with them as Queen, and nobody else matters.
    A myth left over from the days when marriage for a woman meant *a life of constant (very dangerous) pregnancy, endless hard work, total subjugation to the husband.* Sure, they were "special" on their wedding day, but that was so the groom could show off his new possession, etc., and his good taste in choice of bride And it would be the _last time_ they were the "special" one in the marriage.

    • @skinsey85
      @skinsey85 3 года назад +24

      Potentially, yeah, but it can be costly. Especially for a small business who might not be able to afford being wrapped up in a legal battle since the court system tends to drag cases on. Sometimes for years. The proceedings could last longer than the undeserved negative attention that would've started the lawsuit. It might end up costing more than it's worth and not just financially but personally. Unfortunately, it's not an easy feat and can be an exhausting and frustrating process with (as the person above also said) no guarantee of winning.

    • @FoxyMomma4ever
      @FoxyMomma4ever 3 года назад +18

      I agree. She absolutely should sue this bride, but only if she can find a lawyer that is an “I only get paid if you win” kind of lawyer. @Peter Evans This may work in your country, but I can tell you in a lot of countries it won't. In Europe, we have limits on what a business can have in contract with a customer - if it is unfair, the paragraphes may be in the contract, but they are not enforcable. Also, your competition can sue you over having such unfair conditions in your contracts. B2B is a different story, there you have almost complete freedom with the terms of your contracts.

    I have always found “bridezilla” stories sooo funny until I was in a wedding with 1!! My sister had her wedding recently and I felt so unwelcome being a bridesmaid I am not even sure things can be the same between us. I wasn’t spoken to or I was treated like I was in the way and ignored at the reception even though at the same table. I made sure The whole day was about her and thought it’s her day, but the weeks following I replayed it over thinking it was me and realised it wasn’t it was her.
    Brides claim it’s so stressful planning and having a wedding but when I got married the planning was so fun and on the day I was so chill my girls asked me was I ok 😂 We had such an amazing day and it was because I was marrying the man I love and it was a great day with friends and family. At the end of the day these bridezillas must come back from their honeymoons and wonder where all their friends, and maybe some family, have gone!! Sorry venting over! ✌️✌️

      My job was the off site operations for what has repeatedly been deemed by multiple local, state, and national publications as one of if not the best restaurant in town, but our Yelp is 4.8 because of one lady's extensive review from a couple years ago blaming us because her husband didn't make a reservation for her birthday on a Saturday night when there was a major street art event whose route ran directly outside our front door. She complains about the staff, the other guests, the wait, the way the bartender is serving his area, is irate because she can see the help in the open concept kitchen from the prime seats they finally got, and even complains that the house Irish brown bread is 'too brown'. If ONLY killing them with kindness actually led to their immediate demise.

I was once an amateur video camera operator back in the days when it was a novelty and you either had to be rich or insane to own one (I was the latter). I was relatively lucky in the weddings I covered some strange requests but no bridezillas. I thought they were an urban myth until I ran into a couple later as just an ordinary guest (one bride cried her eyes out because her shoes were creased ... you couldn’t them under her wedding dress but no ... she put on a huge scene.
      One thing I did notice when filming was that I could always tell whether the bride and groom were a lost cause. I was never wrong. Perhaps I was concentrating so hard that I noticed things the wedding guests missed (while eating, drinking, talking, etc). Almost all the brides I filmed were happy types but a few of the men had happiness bypasses (not a good sign) and a few had the most humble requests ignored by family members not necessarily the bride.

    So worked at a restaurant, had a 250 piece fried chicken order for a picnic (AKA:wedding). Order was picked up on time and paid for, no problem. Till the “picnic” began, then a Slow day got really busy at the restaurant. Apparently the bride wanted each person to bring a dish to put on food table and pay $55 for each person to eat even children. Plus bring a gift she approved of. The bride estimated how much chicken, what she didn’t think about was the restaurant was right down the road, and a full meal was cheaper. So 92 of her 100 guests filtered in to eat, refusing to pay her $55 fee (oh and no dish to pass) I made hella good tips, one table of 6 (2adults 4children) left me $110. The next day I happen to be working and 3 ladies come in and are talking about what they should do with over 200 pieces of fried chicken. And where everyone would have gone. One commented I only made $400 and a bunch of gift cards ($160 total) and now we don’t have enough to go on honeymoon/vacation. She paid for the lunch with a $25 gift certificate her brother gave her, she showed me a picture. Just so happens his wife and 4 kids were in the picture, yep (that table of 6) you know I want to tell her he likes me more!!! Oh and the chicken was drunkenly left in the car all night and she still thought it was good!

    As a certified florist, the florist one pissed me off so much. Flowers take time to grow and nourish, and they generally cost a decent amount of money unless you're getting cheap, common and easy to care for flowers like carnations. Nobody wants carnations at their wedding. And aside from all of that, despite what many people think, you DO have to go to school to become a florist. You have to learn the different types of floral arrangements, the different tools to use, you have to use and apply color theory, and to top it off arrangements take time to make. Even if the person is providing the flowers for free, I didn't go to school to do free work. I'm not applying my skills, which you(the client) clearly don't have for free. Learn how to do your own floral arrangements if you're that entitled.
    Also, flowers aren't the only thing you need in a floral arrangement. You need floral tape, clippers, a floral knife, floral wire, foliage, floral foam, and so much more. At that point I'd not only be wasting my time but also dipping into my own money.
    The level of entitlement is disgusting.

Yes, doesn't sound particularly glamorous and I know they're considered "filler flowers" but I really like them. I probably wouldn't have them at my wedding but only because I think I'd prefer wild/foraged flowers rather than cut ones, for environmental reasons.

    Oddly my wedding cake was actually horrible. We literally struggled to cut it, much to everyone's amusement and our embarrassment. Once we did, it was awful. Literally no one liked it and several people hated it so much that they called (independently of each other) the bakery to complain, something we didn't even know at the time. We wanted a gold and red cake to match our colors and they later justified the taste, saying they had to use stuff that didn't taste good and hardened the outside to make it work and had to bake it several days ahead of time, making it "potentially stale." Yet, had they bothered to call and explain this, we would have said do anything but that. Crazy as we are, we wanted the cake to be edible above all else and honestly didn't really care that much. This was a well known, usually good bakery. Interestingly enough, my mother-in-law bought a sheet cake in the shape of a squirrel (inside joke) from the same bakery for the rehearsal dinner reception. It didn't get eaten as everyone was already stuffed from dinner, so we had them put it out at the wedding. It was too small for the number of people there but also delicious. My grandmother bought us the official wedding cake for over $400! When she called in they gave her the excuses listed here and beyond but did admit they'd already had guests call to voice their complaints. They refunded her $200, telling her that if she'd saved the cake they would have gotten a full refund. Like basically had everyone return their nearly full slices of cake instead of putting in the trash, boxed it all up, and returned it. What?! 🤦‍♀️ Honestly many pieces were basically mutilated just trying to get the knife through the fondant. These days, they probably would have done it anyway to avoid being called out online, and had I paid for it and been refused a refund, I would have lodged a complaint with the credit card company to ensure they didn't get paid for a terrible, inedible product. Also, without our knowledge, my mom did save the topmost, tiny tier, froze it, and then mailed it to us on our anniversary. That was sweet of her, but the cake definitely didn't get magically better tasting after all that. 🤣 The most important part was that we ended up married, but I still remember that disgust, confusion, and then humiliation that we were serving inedible, poorly cut slices of cake, especially at a reception on New Year's Eve. But..... 🤷‍♀️

The rest is purely work hours, to arrange the flowers in such a manner (not to mention the long work hours) that they look spectacular on any wedding. So basically she spent 10% at most of the whole florist budget, and then wants a (professional?) florist to arrange the whole bunch for free!

Like the one time I got served something truly disgusting, I could barely eat the 2 spoons of my ramen I had. My mom agreed with the taste and we told the waiter when he came by for something else. He did apologize and say that it smelled a bit off before he crossed it from the bill. We didn't even ask him to do that and we didn't want our first meal on vacation to end on that note so we gave him like half the price as tip.

    I was a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding in 2003. The gowns she selected for us included $600 custom made silk corsets which she said she picked for us because she knew we'd love them and be able to wear them again. One of the other bridesmaids and I went to the seamstress to give our initial measurements and were shown the fabric that had been selected - it was bright firetruck red with small embroidered black flowers.. We realized there was the same material but black with red flowers. We both agreed that we REALLY did not like the red, and that being gothy we loved the corsets, but we really hated the red and didn't feel it suited us. We figured out that because we were the second and fourth of 5 bridesmaids, it might look nice if the first, third, and fifth bridesmaids were in red with black flowers and we were in black with red flowers. Thinking this was a clever and reasonable solution we went to the bride with our concern and idea in hopes she'd understand that as students and only working part time it was a lot of money for us to spend on something we didn't like and we would be really grateful if she let us have black corsets with red flowers as it would be something we'd likely wear again as she'd hoped. She completely went off on us and insisted that the maid of honour be the only one with a different colour dress (it was burgundy and a completely different dress than the rest of us) and that the rest of us HAD to match. The day of the wedding she gave us our bridesmaids gifts of a set of matching necklace and earrings which she bragged about finding online for $9 a set. Two of the necklaces broke while we tried to put them on and 3 of the bridesmaids had sore and visibly irritated red earlobes within hours of inserting and had to remove them. We also received handkerchiefs with our initials embroidered on them which she said she got a deal on - $15 for all 6. The groomsmen who had to rent suits for $89 got gifts of beautiful pocket watches with their initials engraved on them and a flask, also with their initials engraved on them and filled with really expensive whiskey. The marriage lasted less than 2 years. I still have the corset and never wore it again.

    The worst wedding planner I ever seen was this one lady. My friend got got married. Her and her groom didn't have a lot of money. Everyone in the church donated everything. Her wedding dress was a rental. They are the nicest people you ever met. There was a lady who volunteered to be the planner.the day of the wedding she was nowhere to be found. We did all the decorations and got all the food organized cuz it was all made by us and no catering. The bride and groom couldn't afford it and that was ok. The wedding planner showed up at the very end of the reception for the cake cutting. She was also dressed like a street Walker. Way too sexy for a wedding. Her and her kids ate non stop like they haven't eaten in a year and ate a huge chunk of cake. After they ate they. The wedding planner was only there less than 1 hour for this event. No one in church ever invited her and her kids to any events after that.

    I had a photography business. I simply didn't do weddings or funerals.
    The only wedding I did was because a friend asked me during his wedding if I had brought my camera. They had the brilliant idea to buy a bunch of disposable cameras and pass them out to the guests.
    One of the teen boy relatives was... enthusiastic. He took a picture of every single thing. Everything. Ran through all the cameras before the actual ceremony.
    So I took pictures at my friend's wedding. I didn't ask to be paid for taking the pictures, just for the prints. I printed a fair number of photos, he just... never picked them up. So I was out the cost of printing.
    I got off easy, I have heard MUCH worse stories than my little trivial tribulation. I'm not even mad at my friend over this, he had a lot going on at the time.
