When my wife and I married, her nephew, a little kid around the age of 10, had been washing cars and mowing lawns to earn money so he could gift us a pepper and salt set. Best gift of the entire wedding, the pride on his face when he presented it to us is unforgetable. (and yes I am still using it 22 years later even though my wife passed away a year ago)

when my best friends got married, they didn´t tell anyone but their closest family, and two weeks later, they had a big bbq party with all their friends and families, where they then surprised everybody with the reason for the party. they did it this way so that nobody had to worry about gifts, dress code etc, and so everybody could just relax and be happy celebrating with them. It has been almost 15 years since then, they are still going strong and I wish them all the best for decades to come!

Good for your friends and their family & friends. That, to me, is the essence of getting married. Celebrating that you have found love, and sharing that joy with those closest to you in a simple way that has a powerful message: "We love each other, we are happy, we love you and want to share this happiness with you." I would never attend a wedding that has so many outrageous demands attached to it.

When my parents got married 36 years ago my dad's aunt brought a trash bag full of things from around her house to give them as a wedding gift because she was really struggling financially at the time but didn't want to show up empty-handed. Most of the people made fun of her behind her back over it.
But my mom still to this day says everything she brought was the best gifts they got, because they were things they could actually use and she still brought a bunch of stuff even though she was struggling. My mom can't remember anyone else's gifts but can still remember every single thing my dad's aunt gave them.

And people don't realize, while that machine is printing it's not like OP can go out and live their lives, that machine has to be watched because if an error starts happening it can ruin the whole piece then that is time and materials wasted. So it's not like OP is "sitting on their butt" by choice. It's like being on-call, you get paid for changing your life/activities around to be available to be used, just a part of life.

It's people like you, who just don't get it and think that other human beings with actual feelings like friends and family and the groom actually matter on that day. People should quite literally step aside and get out of her way, figure out a way to genuflect gracefully as she passes, or move into the role of servant, preferably with lowered eyes and head, on that day. Man, I got married just over 3 years ago, and I was so afraid of being a bridezilla that I actually drove my bridesmaids a little crazy by NOT making decisions. I gave them a color, a length, a reasonably priced store, and had them choose their own dress that suits their taste and budget. And I was constantly trying to get input from my husband who didn't want to give it (though his one request was that we do our first dance to "Storybook Love" from the Princess Bride, and since that was the only thing he asked for, and I also love that song/movie, that's what I went with. It's his wedding too). My aunts paid for both my sisters' wedding gowns as their gift, so they did the same for me and I tried really hard to only try on gowns at the lower end of their budget because I wanted to be considerate. But then I found the one I fell in love with, which was just over their budget, so I wasn't going to get it, and my mom, God bless her, could tell, so she chipped in too to make up the difference. And my mother and father-in-law fronted the money for everything so we could pay them back and not have to worry about interest on a loan. So many people came and helped me, and gave their input without shoving it down my throat, and encouraged me to make it about me and my husband without going over the top. I love them all so much, and they helped make the day so incredibly special. 💗

This video was like an ad for the wedding, because the wedding was going to take place somewhere in the Caribbean and they made this video so that their guests could pay for an all inclusive hotel package where the wedding was to take place and whatnot. As it turns out, they wanted ME to pay to attend the wedding, take the photos in exchange for the "opportunity" to be at their wedding and I could also "enjoy the rest of the trip", and "share a few drinks" after I was done "capturing their memories". I went on her wedding day and her whole family was giving me the evils as I did her wrong. Anyway, a year later she got divorced and she turned into a divorcedilla if there is such a thing. I had a beautiful dress courtesy of my mum and dad. I’m not a fussy gal and I told my resort assigned wedding planner to chose what he liked and what he would chose if his sister were getting married. He picked deep deep red roses and gladiolus, and chocolate cake with white icing. My hair and makeup was done by a really cool girl at the resort’s salon with my exact name from Mexico City, I said ‘do what you do sis!’, it turned out stunning and I felt amazing. We had some delicious steaks, and a killer pumpkin soup Im given to understand is a much loved regional dish which we still talk about to this day. There was other food, but the soup stole the show. I showed up with pretty crystal seahorses from Swarovski which I thought would look nice on my cake maybe, also a gift from my mum who is a collector. I don’t know who it was, the culinary people or the planner, but they took the seahorses and ran with the theme and when I walked into the little restaurant for our group’s private dinner, the cake was stood decorated with shells and flowers; it was stunning. I didn’t choose music, I didn’t choose refreshments, I didn’t chose decorations and everything about it was the best. That night was traditional Mexican themed entertainment with music and dancing everywhere, and the group spent the night walking from little cluster of singers and dancers to the next. It cost us about 6 thousand bucks, which included mine and my husband’s 7 day all inclusive vacay. I think back to our wedding and I remember an absolutely wonderful family vacation where I also got married and had a kick ass time. Zero regrets. I’m obviously on the other end of the spectrum in terms of caring, but It’s my belief that when people place too many expectations on their experiences they are only opening the door to disappointment. As a Brazilian that all her life went to marriages from middle-class to lower-class from people that are from the same church as me, hearing these stories is a ride, in good part because of the cultural clash. Like... Bridesmaids and groomsmen here are very frequently children from the bride and groom families or from close friends, usually around six-year-old, that literally just walk down the aisle to announce the bride and carry the rings, dressed as little brides and grooms (a brazilian wedding without any kids is literally impossible for me to imagine) (the last one I went three little boys were dressed as security and carrying a briefcase with the rings, it was so freaking cute). Gifts, specially if the couple is more lower-class, very commonly are things for the house, like... Clothes washing machine, beds and so on (once my parents gifted an iron frame bed to a couple because the groom was a really big man and wood ones would not be able to handle his weight). It's very common for the talk between guests and the couple to go along "have someone already gifted x thing? no? That's what I'm bringing!". Marriages here usually have what we call "godparents" or "witnesses", they are usually married couples that mean something to the ones marrying (like uncles and aunts, cousins and so on) that walk down the aisle before the bride; usually it's only color-coded, with the witnesses dressing as they are able to. Also, probably because most of these were church-related and lower-class, a lot of the times people from the family and the church pitch in to cook lunch/dinner for the party, instead of a professional buffet.

(Planning a big formal wedding is a major effort, and some people dream of that event all their lives, so pressure can be high)
      BUT BUT BUT
Some of these women have personality disorders, and the men marrying them are likely codependent, or also have a personality disorder, or are otherwise the product of household where a parent had a personality disorders/was otherwise abusive that, on a deep level, they don't know what a healthy relationship or boundaries would even look like.

You have no idea if any of these females have any disorders or if any of these males are codependent or have any other issues. That is a massive accusation and assumption!! Did you psychologically evaluate them? No, you didn't and you cannot do any form of evaluation over one thing that was brought up in this video or any other video. In order to evaluate them you would need to run numerous neurocognitive tests, psychological evaluation tests, have medical and family history as well as talk to them in person.
Just because people are being disrespectful, outrageous, entitled and an over all a b**ch does not mean they actually have mental health issues and nor does it mean that the males they are going to marry are codependent or have any issues either. Do not spit out false judgments based off of no real evidence other then these females are being b**ches. That is the problem with society today. Everyone wants to claim someone has mental health issues when they don't. So unless you actually have a license to practice psychology and have personally properly evaluated any of these people do not assume they are anything more then b**chy people and that their partners have issues at all.
By the way yes, some could have mental health issues but you do not know if they do and there is no way to know.

Or people with untreated borderline personality disorder who are being horribly abusive (while inside they are likely in intense emotional distress because of the situation)

No, the last paragraph only points out that some people do have issues but you cannot say they do without proof. Also, while yes, there are people with mental health issues all over, to assume that these people and especially their husbands to have metal health issues and such serious mental health issues is wrong and actually further stigmatizes mental health.
Are you licensed in any mental health field? If so, then you know there is absolutely no information here to even come close to say that any of these people have such serious mental health disorders. Also, you should know that most of the statistics you are more then likely referring too are also based of assumptions. They can only be considered "best guess" at best. Due to the fact that they are based on very very small groups of people taken from the census reports. Most people lie on those reports for fear of the government. Not to mention without people actually going in and being diagnosed the statics are only assuming they have those issue. By the way, if you are curious the symptoms for BPD(Bipolar Disorder), BLD (Borderline Personality Disorders), PTSD all have the same symptoms when it comes to diagnosis and all usually come from having trauma happen to them as children like you mention with a few genetic exceptions. So, according to your assumptions these bridezillas would also most likely have been traumatized.
Also, of the people who have gone in and been evaluated and diagnosed about 85% of the diagnosis is wrong and solely based on averages and not the individual themselves. This causes problems in treatment plans and thet often have to go get evaluated multiple times often getting different results.
Long story short you cannot trust any statist that assumes the amount of people walking around with mental health issues. You can only trust the percentages done on real people who have actually been tested.

But they basically just said "Here's the color, pick the dress you want" I ended up picking the same style of dress for both weddings (long dress, not too formfitting, short sleeves, almost completely covers the chest area but not touching my neck, comfortable fabric). The two brides (my brother's wife, and my sister) approved of it.

While we were setting up, we were a bit confused because we were using red ribbons on the tables. It was June and we thought red was a weird color for a June wedding. Turns out the bridesmaids wore tea length white lace dresses with red bouquets. The groomsmen wore white tuxedos with red bowties and red rose boutonnieres. The bride was in full length white with a white rose bouquet dotted with a few red roses, groom white tux, white bowtie and red rose boutonniere. They had the wedding at the groom's aunt's house which had a magnificent view of the mountains. There was a large deck on the house and the bride and groom etc were up there and the rest of us were on the lawn below - they had speakers so we could all hear. The day could not have been more perfect. The attendants all wore the same color but different styles and the groomsmen all had vests the same color with white shirts. The pictures were perfect and the bride and groom changed in to casual clothing and joined us all on the lawn. For #2. Use the towels to dry your tears and suck it up. When my wife and I got married we were poor enough that we asked people who could to bring a potluck dish. But we made it clear that NO present was therefore expected and certainly not required. Even the potluck dish wasn't required, just helpful. Oh, and weddings aren't just for the bride. They are for the community of friends to share in and affirm the marriage. If you have found someone you really truly love then you have all the reward you need when you "tie the knot". Don't look to others to make your relationship with the one you love any more special. If you need that you are marrying the wrong person.

I only had 1 matron of honor, no bridemaids. She wore a dress my mom had made for me herself the year before for the Marine Corp Birthday Ball. My husband was in the Marines. He wore his dress uniform. His best friend was his best man and wore a suit, not a tux and we were fine with that. I wore a borrowed wedding dress from a friend of my mother. We did our entire wedding for less than $200, and while it wasn't the greatest, I was just happy to be marrying the man I loved. I'm like you, practical and frugal.
