Hi, I'm Charlotte Dobre. I'm an actor, reactor, singer and sometimes (not really) comedian. On this channel I do reactions, commentary and occasionally I make a joke or two. I love poking fun at social media, weddings, entitled people, tiktok and OF COURSE petty people. I upload daily, usually 7 days a week, unless life gets crazy or I get lazy. Come hang out, it's a good time.

Can confirm, having a "pick me " friend is utterly exhausting. And as you get older, you tend to separate from that friend. And when you do, you realize just how peaceful and fun life can be when you're not constantly trying to cater to that person. You also realize that they don't really care about you or your feelings.

I'm a reformed pick me girl and the most painful part of it is realising that while I was too busy being "not like other girls" in my teens, the other girls were building friendships and learning how to form deep connections with other women. I didn't get that opportunity because of my own pig-headedness. Now I have such girl's girl energy and I crave those deep, mutually supportive friendships, but it's difficult and scary because I'm learning now in my mid-20s what everyone else learned in their mid-late teens.

I was a people pleaser. I've always had a hard time making friends because of my social anxiety but unfortunately the friends I had in school were just using me because of my kind nature. The hardest part was realizing recently a few months ago that my bff of 17 years only cared about what I was doing for her and hardly did anything for me. Now I have no close friends except my husband. I'm friends with his friends but I just don't have a close connection with them like I thought I had with my ex bff. I'm grateful I have my husband though.

You will make those friends now in your twenties. I remember looking back in my twenties and thinking I lost opportunities. You just developed slower and had less love for yourself at that time. That's so normal for a teenage girl. It's great you're reflecting and learning. You will build those friendships. Choose the right ladies who will love you and treat you well. Be a good friend and you will attract them that's what you deserve. Your post really touched my heart. Much love and blessings to you. ✨🫶✨

I lived in Cape Town and was about to visit my family in Europe for month. A trusted colleague asked if his 2 German friends stay there for 2 weeks. I said yes and gave him a spare set of keys before I left.
On my return, I walked into a spotless home. There were fresh flowers, boxes of chocolate, a lovely thankyou card which contained money. By bed had clean bedding and the other sets were washed and neatly stored.
I was thrilled that the visitors were so responsible and kind. After a 26 hour, on 2 flights and hours on the road, it was such a joy to have a bath and climb into bed with a box of chocolates.

I moved to a new village when i was 15, hated that my evil stepmother made us uproot my life. After i started the new school, a girl i hadn't met knocked on the door and said, 'hi i know you're new so i thought id come round and give you a tour of the village" I was so happy. We ended up being besties. She was outgoing, pretty and funny, everything i wasn't as an awkward 15 year old. She got all the guys, introduced me to lots of people, and my first boyfriend, She absolutely outshined me. She helped me out when i needed help and respite from my stepmother. And you know what, i was just so happy she knocked on my door that day out of the blue to be my friend. How can anyone be jealous about someone who brings so much sunshine in your life. We remained friends for years. I've moved away but she sees my sister and we both send each other love through my sis. Good friends are hard to find. Cherish the ones who go out of their way to make you feel welcome ❤❤❤❤

I had a cousin that always got the attention wherever we would go, like the op in the first one. It did make me feel insecure. But instead of being mad at her, I just started hanging out with other cousins that didn't make me feel like that. I hope you have connections with other widows. I know a woman who also lost her husband overnight at the same age. She found so much support in the local widows grief support group, and has made some really good friendships that way as well. It helps so much with any kind of trauma and grief to connect with people who've been thru similar things. People who haven't been thru loss as you have usually expect the grieving to "move on", but people who have understand that grief doesn't work that way. I'm not a widow but I've experienced my own serious losses, and I think that we have to learn how to carry our griefs. We never stop missing and thinking about any of our people. I know we're strangers but I'm sending you so much right now. It helps me to have people in my life who I can talk to about my dead loved ones, people who want to know them even tho they'll never meet my dear ones. It sounds like you and husband shared deep love ❤

The girl having a random dude living in her house without her knowledge or consent has my deepest sympathies.
I had my own home and safety violated due to horrible neighbours, and it is now years later and it is still very much in my mind daily. I own this house, it is in my family for generations, and I really do not want to move, but I do not feel safe, I took off the door bell completely because it gave me panic attacks (that's how they got me to open the door), and even a repair man coming in requires a good two weeks of emotional preparations for me. It is traumatic to have something like that happen to your safe space, and I feel for her. I hope she can live with the fact better than I can, it is truly horrible to not feel safe in your own house anymore.

You need to call the police regaeding the stalker, they could be using space in the attic, sometimes apartments are connected. We had to put a lock on the crawl space door ceiling access, when we figured out the neighbors next door was using it to enter our apartment. Things keep disappearing and we found that the door was left open. I guess we come home early and they flipped out and forgot it. We called the cops but couldn't proof anything. We called the complex and warned our neighbors in the row. They moved to a different building and we warned the people in that building too. They eventually moved.

I thought she had an easy life with a rich family and popularity for all the right reasons because she's a genuinely good and beautiful person. I fought to work on myself and stop comparing myself over some years. We are still close friends and I told her recently (lightheartedly) how I used to be jealous of her. I was shocked to hear that from her perspective the "popularity" was not fun or even as existent like it seemed to be from the outside. Very humbling. We are all just people.

I keep telling my granddaughter this. She has a friend who is very jealous of her. The girl is overweight and every time my granddaughter was staying the weekend with her, she wouldn't let my granddaughter eat. My granddaughter is very athletic and happens to have a good figure because of it. She'd make herself a sandwich and bring my granddaughter 1 slice of lunch meat or split the sandwich with her, which usually meant part of the crust. She'd tell her mother that they had already eaten so they weren't hungry for dinner. It's only because of another girl being there and told on her, that the mother found out that her daughter wouldn't let my granddaughter eat. My granddaughter didn't speak up for herself because she didn't want her friend getting in trouble. The mother called and apologized when she found out. Every time my granddaughter changes anything with her appearance, the girl gets the same thing done. The girl will act like her friend, but once she goes over to her house, she'll start pulling little stuff or saying things about my granddaughter's appearance that makes her feel a little bad about herself, but she is finally seeing that this girl is just trying to hurt her.

I actually had a pick me friend...
I was a seen as a "dude with long hair" by my guy friends. I was literally one of the guys to them. Didn’t really have girl friends. The only times girls would befriend me, was to get closer to one of my friends through me. Granted, I was an amazing wing girl...
But this one girl would always go for the guy I was into... If it just seemed that I showed interest, she'd be all over him and tell me all about how he couldn't stay away from her.
The last straw was when we were at a party and I had the hugest crush on my best friend.
He forgot his jacket at home and this "friend" offered to drive him to get his stuff.
When they came back, both of them avoided me and I cornered her asking what the deal was. She told me that he cornered her in his house and passionately kissed her and it almost went further, but she didn’t want to hurt me, so she stopped him.
I was broken. Like really shattered. Me and the guy worked together and I was his carpool too. He asked me what she told me, and after I told him, he was fuming. He told me that she actually forced him into a corner and tried to kiss him, but she disgusted him and he pushed her away.
Me and the guy didn't work out romantically, but he is an amazing friend after more than a decade.
I broke all ties with that girl...

My best friend and I have known each other since 1972! After high school we were roommates in two different homes, sometimes worked together at the same businesses even. Life took us on different paths through the intervening years but we never lost touch . Fast forward to present day, we are both widows, recently retired 65 year olds sharing a home once again. There has never been jealousy or animosity between us. We have had our disagreements certainly, but I can’t remember a single real fight! It’s the greatest feeling knowing she’s just upstairs if I need her and I’m here if she needs me. We respect each other’s privacy and have company when we want to talk or help each other or cook together or whatever! We know each other so well and get along really well. Women shouldn’t feel like we have to outshine others. Support one another. Commiserate. Celebrate accomplishments large and small! This friendship has lasted 51 years, and we wouldn’t trade it for the world!

The reason "pick me" girls are so common is because every girl thinks they are different than the other girls at one point in time. It's ingrained in young women to compare ourselves to stereotypes seen on TV. We all relate to the quirky main character girl because that's the point. The movies made for young women know their target audience, which is... young women. All of them. Maturity is knowing that, yes... We girls are just like the other girls. Maybe some of us grow up to embody certain stereotypes, but we're still not that different from each other no matter which path we choose. It really depends on how we act and how we treat others that defines us as people.

And many don't have confidence in themselves even though they may to portray themselves as being confident. They may not have the best home life and could also have mental health issues, especially as teenagers. Some never grow up past that point. I hope those girls find a way to like who they are and become comfortable in their skin and find their self worth. It can be quite a journey to get there which I know first hand. Yes, like Charlotte said, women and girls should build each other up, not tear them down.
As a teenager most of my friends were guys as I was a tomboy and liked doing the guys activities. Some of my friends/acquaintances (girls) got jealous that I was accepted as one of the guys, but they never wanted to join us in doing activities. I walk over to her and ask her what was wrong and she said “can you NOT sing?!” I’m sitting there confused and asked her why she was mad that I was singing. We both had great singing abilities so I didn’t understand her frustrations until she told me that she felt like me singing with him was like I was trying to get his attention even though he clearly had feelings for her from conversations they have had up until that point. I didn’t even like him like that, I started singing because I loved the song he was playing and we were just chilling and everyone was singing along. I told her that I had no ill intentions but she wasn’t having it. She gave me the cold shoulder for the rest of the day. And I felt bad because I made her upset even though I wasn’t meaning to. It's not your fault either. I've also always been an ugly duckling, was bullied mercilessly in school for being ugly and yet I've found true love. Someone who is actually physically attracted to me and thinks I'm physically beautiful. It's not just because he's in love with me either. You can find someone physically beautiful without being in love with them but you can only fall in love if they're beautiful on the inside. My love will see plenty of physically attractive people but still be disgusted by them because of personality. He actually likes the way I look even without his love for me. My point being that even if you truly are conventionally unattractive I'm sure it is not nearly as bad as you think it is and one day there will be someone who thinks you are physically attractive. Everybody is SOMEBODY'S type. But when that happens don't immediately throw yourself into that person's arms until A. You know they are genuinely physically attracted to you and not lying and B. Also like who you are as a person. Real love will have both of those things. In the mean time don't try to make yourself beautiful per se but just make sure everything is HEALTHY. Take good care of your skin, if you have acne or even any problems with dry skin or oily skin but no acne, make sure you're washing your face regularly and using THE RIGHT PRODUCTS. Use a face mask every now and then give your skin some love; really clear out your pores the best you can and give your face a good amount of moisture. Take good care of your hair, using all the right products and washing it as often as is necessary, and most of all getting your dry split ends trimmed away regularly so you have a healthy scalp and healthy hair. Exercise at least a little bit and eat well so you have a decent weight and overall feel good and energized and so you don't have heart problems later. Then to top it all off, put on a nice outfit and spritz on some cologne or perfume for a nice scent. Have a healthy body from head to toe and make sure you smell okay and I guarantee you'll feel attractive and BE attractive to someone.

toxic girlie in the last clip is definitely capable of change. everyone is capable of change. for toxic folks like that, change usually comes in the form of the rudest awakening, like devastating life events that happen to them that end up upending everything they ever knew or believed about life. something that would no doubt alter their core beliefs about themselves, the people around them, and their worldview entirely.
it’s still change. it’s just the most awful route that someone’s own stupid decisions would end up forcing themselves towards, to undergo that process. bless their souls.

    • @yulebones
      @yulebones 3 месяца назад +16

I was able to grow out of being that kind of toxic. You're right, though - took a massive upending, had to go NC with my entire family that was just churning out toxic people, and then a solid 15 years of therapy that I'm still undergoing. And it's the kind of work that'll be lifelong. There's no endpoint that is "I am better, I am a good person now" - it's "I am always trying to be the best I can" (and frankly I think that is the case for almost everyone, whether or not they're that degree of toxic). The real question is whether the person wants to change and grow, and, yeah, a not insignificant number of folks like that simply don't see any reason to.

For sure. I have a friend who is always picking out things about my appearance and constantly asking me whether I'd had any longing to change. Like my height, I'm 5.0 and I've never ever been insecure about it. A day couldn't go by without her mentioning my height and putting me down for it. There was a time that she even started listing all the tall girlies, including herself and saying that they all looked better than short ones. I honestly remember feeling so low then but also conflicted because I knew that that was not a fact. I've seen so many gorgeous short ladies and I know that we're not any less than others. So I really wondered why someone would go to extra lengths to specifically put me down for this reason.

I had a toxic friend not long ago, my friends and I were a group of 6 (including her) and we all had different classes after spending lessons together the whole of secondary school, so would meet up for lunch and gossip and catch up and just enjoy each other company. This mini break from toxic friend made us realise her behaviour was actually bringing a lot of negativity (saying things like I dyed my hair blond because I needed an excuse to be dumb, constantly telling my underweight friend she was a stick, trying to force my other friend with an ED to eat bread which was a trigger for her etc) and the thing that tipped it over the edge for us was when she’d detailed the intimate stuff she did with her boyfriend at the time, I was uncomfortable with that topic at the time so asked her if she could stop and we were all eating so it made us all just loose our appetite. The day she was ill and didn’t eat with us was a real moment of clarity and we decided to wait for exams to be over before telling her we wanted a break. I was a bit of a pleaser and accepted to be the one to tell her. After that, she would side eye us and ignore us and became such a pick me always saying “girls were too much drama” and she could “never wear as much makeup as normal girls” and suddenly the guy friends she was hanging out with who were also our friends were distancing themselves. Apparently she had been telling them we just cut her off out of the blue and we were always making comments about her trying to censor her (we just told her we didn’t like the stuff she had been saying or the nicknames she had given us when were friends) anyway, we have matured now and are civil when our big group of like 30 people meet up.

I was that ugly friend that hung out with the popular girls. My friends were great towards me and always wanted me to come, but it was obvious to me that others, especially the guys did not want me there. My first high school crush had his friends give me his number and they texted me and strung me along for a while until they then blew up in my face that they were just fucking with me, cause who was I to crush on this guy!.... yeah.. but never once did I ever blame my girls for that! It gave me a solid lesson about not falling for looks, but I never held it against my friends that they were waaaay prettier than me! I admired them for their beauty, their kindness and their abilities to not be super awkward around other people. We eventually grew apart later in life and I have different friends now, but I still remember those girls fondly. They were my best friends for the first 11 years of school life. We were split up in year 11, and by year 12 we all had new friend groups. But those girls are still drop dead gorgeous and so kind people. I see their mothers every now and then as they both moved away to different cities after high school, but I always make sure to be kind to their mothers who were also amazing to me.
I got the slight bit of pick me/im not like the other girls later on while trying to figure out who post-highschool me was, but it thankfully only lasted a short while! And I still never degraded any friends of mine for my own issues!!

The whole “pick me” toxicity is so draining. You feel like you’re constantly having to feed their ego, to make them feel good about themselves. I’ve also had bfriends that had that narcissistic “lead character syndrome”. If there isn’t any drama happening around them, they make the drama, and if you are the closest one, you get the crap. A long time ago I decided that any “friend” that felt like they had to “one-up” me every time I said something about my life, then I was to get out of that conversation and potential friendship as quickly as possible. Because that is usually your first red flag.

She then worked her way into a friend group where she complained to me and the others girls that the guys in the group only saw her as a "friend." She THEN went after the guy my BFF was dating and wormed herself into a "special friendship" with him. Then I got married. She did not come to the wedding, though invited. She couldn't believe that I was getting married before her. After 10 years I got a divorce. A mutual friend was getting married and I asked the bride if I could bring a plus one. The bride said yes, but this chick went off the deep end. She said things like, "why does SHE get all the male attention?" "She's been married, divorced, and now she has a boyfriend?" The bride told me that this girl lost her sh*t. To the point, I did not bring my BF as to make life easier for the bride. How insecure do you have to be to find glee in someone's down times and pure anger in their up times?

She was extremely self conscious about her weight and appearance and would get mad at me when the guys she liked, didn’t like her back and instead liked me (her words to me, not speculation). And because I was on the thinner side, she spread a huge rumor that I was anorexic and caught me doing anorexic “activities” (I absolutely wasn’t btw. I was just eating healthy and watching my weight, and working out more to prepare for basic training because I joined the National Guard Junior year). The rumor got so out of control, the school counselor pulled me out of class to talk to me about it. The whole thing was so frustrating and embarrassing because everyone in the school was talking about it, and people would shove food in my face and expect me to “prove” I wasn’t anorexic by eating. So if I turned down random food people gave me they thought that was the proof I was…
I stopped being friends with her after that.

Like, "oh wow friend X is really gorg in that dress while I'd probably look like a suffocated burrito with that" then . But just to that extent, and then forget about it while I have fun with them. I've never really thought bad about them, nor do I feel very bad about myself. I feel like it's just normal that other people would be better than you. And, at the end of the day, the thought of "man, I'm friends with such a pretty/well-connected/smart/nice person" would ring louder than any self-hate or envy.

There will always be people who are different to you, that have things you don't (that they might not even want themselves). The jealous types will hate you even if your life is in turmoil, for the ONE thing you might have that they want, cut those fuckers out.
Friends only want good for you and would not begrudge you anything good. Being jealous of friends is madness, those are meant to be the people you care about, and if they're good to you appreciate that!

On the first one, I too can sympathize with her friend. It sucks being the one who always sees someone close to you having lots of friends or people who gravitate to them, but not you. I have autism and for me it has always been hard to make friends or be in a social setting. I have had very few people I've clicked with in my life and for some reason, they always had everyone loving them and saying how great they were, whilst I was just there feeling like I'd never account for anything or no one ever bothered to see my way. It's a horrible feeling. You feel like the other persons shadow.
Still. It won't help being mad at someone they get all that love and attention, but you don't ...so I think that was WAY too much, but I can understand where they both are coming from 😭

The most upsetting thing about that first one is that she had 284 UNREAD MESSAGES!!! I can’t cope! How can she see that number in red on her phone & just be like ‘yeah………maybe I’ll look at that later……..’😳😳😳 I have a panic attack if there’s more than 1! 🤣🤣🤣

I get if it's from someone you know is a drama queen, but still, what if there was an emergency? That would bother me.

      😂 I didn't realize that was a thing. I have 100s too. I thought everyone did.

I used to feel that way too, but I’m totally flipped, now. You get a message for 2-factor authentication. You get a message you used your credit card. You get a message from rewards programs, carryouts, host stands. Prescriptions, deliveries, spam, utilities. They all text you now. You can read these w/o “opening” them & they add up fast. It’s not even worth the energy to open them all. It doesn’t mean you don’t message your friends back or anything. There’s just no point! Have a mass delete session every once in a while & it’s good 😊👌🏼

Personally that's part of my social anxiety, I look and reply to my messages once every two weeks. 😂❤
