    In Sixth Sense, Bruce Willis' character discovers that he's dead and the gunshot wound appears on his shirt. I think when the people discover that they are actually dead, they change into how they were the moment they died; hence the 3 hanging people.

    The ghosts in the sixth sense aren't just people who have died, they're people who can't yet move on to the afterlife due to specific circumstances (mostly regrets) surrounding their death. So that means not everyone who dies becomes a ghost, and those that do become ghosts don't stay ghosts forever before passing on (meaning at some point there's an eventual drop-off rate of 1800's, 1600's, 1200's or even Neanderthal ghosts still being around). It also that means no animal ghosts because they can't conceive of things like "regret" to want to stay behind.

      Actually yeah, that's kind of how society works. If you don't realize the bad things you're doing then the deterrence element of the punishment is pointless, they also can't consider the implications of why the punishment came down on them, etc. The guy probably should have just gone to a psyche ward for the rest of his life.

He was saying that it didn't make any sense that a serial killer would invade a home, murder the dad, and tie up the rest of the family RIGHT BEFORE HE HAS TO GO TO WORK. I'm sure even Dahmer was intelligent and sane enough to not kill people immediately before he had to go to his dayjob. Or at least have the sense to call out of work if he did.

    I think I can argue the whole animal aspect that you mentioned. If you're going by Christian beliefs which I'm assuming the sixth sense is using, animals do not have souls only humans. As such if an animal dies and since it has no soul it cannot have a ghost.

    • @YMS
      @YMS  11 лет назад +213

      So at what evolutionary stage in our history did we develop a 'soul'? Did it just pop in the very instant a newborn could be classified as homo sapien? Why did their parents with nearly identical genetic makeup not have a soul?

    • @NewbiePlaysGames
      @NewbiePlaysGames 11 лет назад +201

      YMS I think you're forgetting the fact that when the bible was written evolution was not a concept of the world. I'm not saying I believe it I'm just saying that if this movie is based on the Christian idea of the soul and the spirit then animals do not have souls and evolution is not real. Again I want to clarify that I believe in evolution and all that but under Christian beliefs evolution is not an explanation for our existence.

    • @djpeanutbutterjelly
      @djpeanutbutterjelly 11 лет назад +32

      NewbiePlaysGames I actually don't really believe that the film is inherently Christian, but rather a general definition of the afterlife. Many religions have an afterlife, not just Christianity; perhaps animals simply aren't intelligent enough to create the complex illusion that they are still alive. It is also definitely possible for ghosts to realize that they are dead, i.e. Bruce Willis, so maybe animals just instantly realize that they're dead and ascend to... wherever. I don't know. It's a lot of implausible inference, but whatevs.

    • @NewbiePlaysGames
      @NewbiePlaysGames 11 лет назад +13

      Sure, but I was just making one example of why there might not be animals in the movie. More of a starting off point for why there might not be animals instead of saying that it was a mistake from the director. I find it more interesting to see how people interpret things differently, even if it wasn't the creator's intent.

    • @jonathanapple4828

      5 years late but if you told me that I was completely invincible and could do whatever I wanted without dying as long as I didn't go near water, I'd get the fuck away from water. Kryptonite is a metaphor for when its like, only one single weakness. Drowning kills lots of people, but so does lots of other things, so its not really humanity's kryptonite.

It was around the Laci Green segment from DP that I realized "Ok, this isn't an ideological difference anymore; he's just flushed his brain down the toilet" I mean when you spend half your video laughing at the funny faces someone makes if you randomly pause the clip, maybe it's time to consider that your problems with that person stem less from that person's positions or arguing tactics and more with some ancient personal beef you refuse to get over and maybe mocking someone who is generally being reasonable and making points you agree with causes you to look really desperate when you have to mine trivial things for material? But iz funny when Tim the Bartender did it so I'll do it in all my vids now.

    Just the other day I was reading of a guy who killed his wife and daughter then went off to play ping pong with his friends that very night. According to the friends the guy was perfectly normal and didn't act any different around them despite what he just did. You can't really argue normality with those kinds of people, I think I can believe how crazy/stupid their actions would be.

    I honestly believe, and I believe this honestly, that M Night is genuinely the greatest troll in history and none of us are in on it. There is no way he does shit like have "What Psycho did for showers and Jaws did for oceans, The Visit will do for grandparents" without some serious self awareness. Beyond that, what he did for The Last Airbender? He knew it was his biggest trolling opportunity. He is a genius, I just know it.

      I love how it is so unlike Tarantino's other films. While I love how shameless the gore and violence is in _Django: Unchained_ and _Ingourious Basterds_, I prefer the more understated stories. Unfortunately, _Jackie Brown_ won't be a classic like _Pulp Fiction_ but, IMO, they are on the same level.

      Carl Siemens it lacks that normal ultra violent aspect because it's originally a novel and he didn't write it, just translated it for the screen. There is still some violence in it, and he did do his fair share of artistic liberties and changed a lot of it, but kept the main points.

    The thing people should pay attention to about Shyamalan's two first movies is the people (person actually) who are in the movie other than the director. An actor can change a movie or even have more power than the director in some cases.
    The actor I am talking about is Bruce Willis. If you have ever watched the later "An Evening with Kevin Smith" movies and listen to Kevin Smith's impression of Bruce Willis or even listen to the interviews of people who worked with Bruce Willis, it becomes obvious that Bruce Willis is a very controlling person. Directors don't like working with the guy because of how bossy he is.
    So this is basically the story of M. Night Shyamalan. First, he was working under the controlled environment of Bruce Willis for two movies. People, loving these two movies, noticed the similarity between these two movies was the director (and not anybody else.) Hollywood assumed the same and gave Shyamalan everything he needed to make more awesome movies and finally Shyamalan broke free from Bruce Willis' grip. I think we know what happened after.
    I can't imagine another reason why he was good and then bad. I think it's interesting, imagine if Bruce Willis actually tried to make a movie.

    • @NyQuilDonut
      @NyQuilDonut 10 лет назад +9

      That would explain a hell of a lot. Bruce having been in great movies before (Die Hard, Pulp Fiction) and being a great actor himself probably knows a lot more about what works and what doesn't than M Night. I wouldn't be surprised if he rewrote half of the script. Harrison Ford was responsible for the ""I love you" I know"" scene in Empire. They were just gonna have him say "I love you too" or something stupid like that. So I could imagine Bruce Willis probably changed up a lot of stupid hackneyed dialogue that M Night is so good at writing.

    • @chevalierkinographie
      @chevalierkinographie 10 лет назад +1

      ***** Not only that. Most movies that he made that people shit on aren't nearly as bad as people make them out to be. Most of them are actually good IMO. The only truly irredeemable Shyamalan movie is The Last Airbender. To me, it's the only movie that matches that hyperbolic Shyamalan hate.

    In ghost lore, the only persons who become ghosts either died traumatically, or with unfinished business, or were so clueless they didn't realize they were dead. Still, that should lead to more ghosts than were encountered in the movie, especially in a place that's been inhabited for quite awhile. Yes, there have been ghost animals in stories. In one of my favorite ghost stories, AMMIE, COME HOME by Barbara Michaels, the ghosts have different reasons for coming back.

    It's so weird to see that whole segment on the guy who tied the people up. Like, by that time, Natascha Kampusch had escaped 5 years ago, and released her book not too long before that movie came out. On her Wikipedia page it's detailed that her captor kept her inside of a small room most of the time, although he later allowed her to move freely in the house by day when he was there. And yeah, he literally just went to work every day with a captive child and later teenager in his cellar. She wasn't even tied up in there.
    It's not necessary to suspend your disbelief very much to think that people can do that kind of thing. Especially considering that those people likely went missing, someone likely reported that (or might have), and some guy who lives in their general area not coming into work the next few days would have been highly suspicious.
    And generally, whenever you see "smaller" criminals in movies, their actions are probably more realistic than you think especially when they seem stupid. Because few people actually go into crime with a solid plan after meticulously studying how to do it best. Most of them plan it on short notice, make rookie mistakes because they don't know about them, or give in to urges that they didn't plan on following until the opportunity arises. That's like the only thing I keep finding myself sighing up in these otherwise great reviews.

    _Lady in the Water_ is my guilty pleasure. It's one of those movies I enjoy watching on a rainy weekend afternoon. I'll make a big mug of coffee, fill the couch with blankets, and just curl up for some carefree entertainment. I know it got a lot of flack in the media back then, so I put off watching it until I stumbled across it on TV. Sat down and didn't get up until the credit roll was done. I wouldn't call it my favorite movie, but it's definitely a nice movie, much the same way _Stardust_ was a nice movie. It makes you feel both a little sad and a little happy at the same time, and the story is an adventure.

    AA makes valid points in that clip but God is he grating to listen to. I remember finding him unpleasant and annoying back in the day for much the same reason I couldn't stand Doug Walker, namely because he feels the need to CONSTANTLY YELL in his videos. I detest that old style of internet reviewing where the reviewers in question would just scream swear words into a shitty camcorder mic. It was an attempt to imitate AVGN's style while forgetting that the Nerd didn't scream all his lines (he also moved around a lot more instead of gormlessly sitting in front of a wall like Doug). The forced, over-the-top outrage always came cross to me as infantile and moronic. I mean, for God's sake, it's just a movie. I never got why AA and Walker got so worked up over dumb/bad creative decisions in the media they reviewed. It just seems so unnecessary.

    With the Sixth Sense, I thought the ghosts you see are people who have unfinished business... Like the little girl who needed the video tape to be seen by her family before she could be at peace. Maybe the hanging victims were wrongly accused and are just stuck there now. That's why I didn't think the streets would be full of dead people, just the ones who needed to do something.

      Danny Liken I think Jackie Brown is a masterpiece and is the only Tarantino film that reaches my top 10 favourite films of all time (6th Favourite Film of all time to be specific). Pulp Fiction comes second in my Tarantino ranking and 13th favourite film of all time. I too used to think Jackie Brown to be the worst until I realised that the reason that it is supposed to be so slow paced is because it is structured like a beautiful slow burn of dynamite which slowly builds up to an explosive climax. I dislike Pulp Fiction's non linear narrative that at times I feel disjoints me from the experience - especially after so many watches. However I do realise that it is all down to personal enjoyment and the positives of pulp fiction definitely outweigh the negatives. Pulp fiction is so iconic and I find it a shame that Jackie Brown is not but when it comes down to it for me, I think the story, structure, acting and direction of Jackie Brown is better. However I can definitely say that the dialogue in Pulp Fiction is tighter, more iconic and generally better than that of Jackie Brown as is the soundtrack.
