  • If you want to remove Windows CoPilot from your Windows 11 Taskbar then this video is exactly what you need. CoPilot has just been automatically added to Windows and some people already hate it. I show you 3 ways to deal with it, but the 3rd is the right way.
1:12 - Use Settings to Remove the Icon
1:47 - Use the Registry to Remove the Icon
3:23 - Use Group Policy to Disable Windows CoPilot Completely

If you had a choice, you could remove it. You can't, you can just believe it is disabled.....

Did not work for me. Nothing changed. I activated but the button is still there and works.....

I opened "gpedit" an clicked "activate" but absolutely nothing changed. The copilot button is still there and copilot can be opened.

Can you send me a screenshot of your GPedit screen to tltech74@gmail.com, I’ll have a look. I’ll assume removing the icon via the settings app worked just the group policy didn’t?

But if you can reactivate it so easily without a reinstall it is still there in the system. Are we going to have to fight Copilot like people have to have Edge operating in the background when they are using a different browser? I'm a writer and artist and want nothing AI anywhere near my intellectual property. Microsoft paying pennies for forgiveness a decade from now in the eventual class action lawsuit does little guys like me no good in the interim.

Hi Mark, without being cynical Microsoft will do what they want and largely go unchecked as it’s their OS. The EU is going to make them give users the choice to remove these things, but elsewhere we’re at their mercy. Btw you could potentially reinstall Windows with the EU as your location and you’ll then get the option to remove some of these things, but this isn’t until 2024. A lot of these things are now baked into Windows so some are pretty much impossible to remove. And if you read their new terms and conditions in a video I’m going to release this week they go as far as saying if you use our ‘services’ then you agree not to sue them or engage in any class action. Best thing to do is get a Mac or use a virtual machine for anything that requires these services and a local account for the main system where you do your work. It won’t fix everything and of course with all these updates MS is sure to patch ways of removing things. But if there is a way I’ll find it and make a video. Best of luck with your decision, I’m afraid there isn’t a perfect one nowadays, although I’m sure there’s a few ppl that would sing out Linux and that could be an option too. Have a great day Mark and thanks for the comments.

I thought about Linux but my writing software, Scrivener, isn't supported on their platform anymore. I may need to air-gap my writing computer. Thanks for the response. @@TLTechLife
