    Perfect video! 500Gb drive was showing signs of failure - partial recordings and freezing part way through completely recorded ones. Spent £38.00 on a 2TB Seagate replacement, bit of a snug fit but working an absolute treat. So saved £250 on a refurbished replacement 1100S.

      Well done that you gave it go and succeeded in the replacement drive fitting. Did the box format a 2TB drive or does that
      SW stop it from happening?

    Thanks for this, my Humax 1100s was going on the blink and I lost about 5 yrs of recordings. I hadn't used the box for a long time
    using mostly Amazon Prime, iPlayer and RUclips. To cut a long story short, I swapped the HDD for a 1TB drive I had spare,
    and hey presto, it's now working again. The new drive was thicker than the old one, but it still fitted OK.
    The most difficult part is getting the case apart ............. Thanks again.

    My Old Freesat Humax you have to partition the new disk for video and audio or something is that what the last screen is saying or have you already used 471gb

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  5 лет назад

      No need to partition. Yes the last screen is showing 471 gb already used (I forgot to take a snap of it before I had already recorded a load of content to it!)

     @ExploreVan UK I need to know: When you say that the recordings are coded to the box, do you mean they are coded to the individual box, or any HDR-1100S box? My box has failed and I want to buy a replacement and swap the hard drives so I can watch all the programmes I have recorded over the years.

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  2 года назад

      They are coded to the individual box I am afraid. If you swap the hard drive into another HDR1100s you would have to format the drive for it to work and therefor lose any recordings already on it.
      My only suggestion would be to speak to Humax if they can identify the part that has failed without having to replace the entire main board it may be possible to recover.

    Hi,my Humax packed up the other day plugged it in and nothing, so I bought a new one to put my old drive in,but reading the comments here I was wondering is the drive more likely to fail or the circuit board?any ideas ExploreVan, thanks in advance.

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  4 года назад

      Hi, in my experience the unit is more likely to fail than the drive, the HDMI connection has been a weak spot on the ones I have had.
      If the power light isn’t coming on I would check the power supply.
      If the light is working try the Video out rather than HDMI.
      If it’s not even starting up it’s unlikely to be the drive.
      I’m afraid the recordings on the drives are encrypted to the box they are recorded on so swapping your drive to the new unit won’t let you play the recordings. So only worth doing if the drive in your original is a larger capacity than the one in the new one.

    Hi! I have a Humax Aura 4K, and I found that it isn’t possible to use the internal HDD as a storage for films and other media, it can be used only for TV saving. Cause, when I try save some data on it, it shows authentication failure. Is there any opportunity to unlock the HDD for data saving?

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  3 года назад +1

      Hi, not that I am aware of as the file system for TV recording is coded to the unit and drive, however as the Aura has USB ports I would be surprised if you can't add a USB stick / external drive to store your media - I have a usb key in my HDR 1100s for this purpose.

    • @balantain86
      @balantain86 3 года назад

      @@ExploreVanUK Thank you for your answer, I have also 2 USB ports on the back side, but the main idea is to use the internal storage as well. I don't need to use it for TV recording, that's why I see just the only way to solve this issue - to take the HDD out - format it and use as an ordinary HDD via USB. And I suppose, if I would take the HDD out, format it and put i back - the system recognize it and format to the same code again? The only way is to use it via USB?

    Hi, is there a cooling fan in the Humax? I got one and it gets quite warm.

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  5 лет назад +1

      There is no fan in the HDR 1100s - it does have a pretty big heatsink - so it will get warm - best you can do is make sure all the ventilation hole in the case are clear.

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  5 лет назад

      It sounds like the drive may not have been your issue. I'm guessing that it could be either the SATA controller or a fault in the drive power connection. Neither of which I have any experience with. If you wanted to investigate further, if it were me, I would start by checking your first HDD on another machine / PC (you can buy a SATA USB cable for a few £/$) if you find the drive works this would indicate it is something else and I'd start googling. Sorry I can't be of more help! Good Luck!

    • @martin4458

      Can I ask, is it a Humax HDR "1000s" you have? Because the 1000s has a know issue that causes this. Your HDD is fine, even the one you took out.

      My 4 year old Humax HDR 1000s stopped seeing my recordings 3 days ago. I replaced the HDD with a spare I just happened to have and the box couldn't see it. Then I started google-ing and there is a known issue with the sata something or other. The 1100s doesn't have the issue. I bought an 1tb 1100s on Amazon today, so I'm really hoping for a very reliable box that'll last for years. I had loads of films taped from talking pictures TV and now they're all gone. 😕
      I rang Humax and the issue can't be fixed but they said the 1100s isn't affected. It's very disappointing but what can you do?

    This is no good if the recordings are coded, what if you want to look at a match that you recorded 10 year's from now i doubt this device will still be working where usb device would be working for years to come, same as a dvd recorded that you could record on a dvd but sadly cannot buy dvd recorders either, people will tell me you get them matchs on RUclips ya right edited ones but not full matchs, i was looking for a iview top box which i bought lastyear on Amazon but it not available anymore when i looked, sadly the one i have broke down on me.

      I’ve lost count of the amount of USB drives and Memory card that have corrupted on me so I wouldn’t rely on them. DVD-R and DVD-RW can also degrade quite quickly with delaminating.
      The Humax isn’t really designed for long term storage you would be better off with a NAS.
