Had this problem with my own box. Would just like to say many thanks. Just fixed mine 5 mins ago and perfect t. Many thanks again. Saves me getting a new one. Thanks again
Brilliant!! I am glad my video was able to help you get your Humax going again! I have a follow up video to edit (yes, still) on another capacitor in the PSU that also causes this error so subscribe to catch that!
Hello Walter. Thanks for viewing and your feedback. I am glad you liked me speeding up the obvious bits - nothing more boring than watching someone unscrew something multiple times over! I aim to make more videos on fixing electronics as and when (hopefully not too often)
Hi mate great video.. I have a Humax HDR T2 fox unit and it's in constant deleting mode but not actually deleting anything.. Can you please advise me on what you think? Thanks for your help..
Hi very informative video. I have the same issue, and would appreciate if you could tell me if i disolder the existing capacitors, how do know what the plus and minus connections are on the existing capacitors, as i have conformation looking at the data sheet for the new ones i have just received and found out that connecting with wrong polarity could damage them. Awaiting your reply, regards Vincent
Hi Vincente. The capacitors will have a stripe of some kind down one side. This is the negative or -ve connection to the PCB. I can't remember exactly how the PCB is marked, but it should have either a dot or a minus ( - ) mark or maybe a plus (+ ) mark on one of the holes for the capacitor. Connect the capacitor so that the stripe is in line with the dot or minus (- ) mark. Do NOT put the stripe to the + if there is one!!!
Hi all i have a humax freesat 1000s box everythings ok, on demand, picture quality all ok signal very good. it responds to buttons fast / tv guide fast to load. etc just the playback recordings are pixelated.HD Reset not helped. - recordings playback picture looks like a poor signal on a freeview box all broken up. Hi Neil, I have an HB-1000S and the HDMI output is down. I bought a RCA to HDMI adapter and it works with the analog output of the Freesat bax, but of course with a very poor quality. Do you know how to repair the HDMI output? Is it possible? I don't want to change the box because the encrypted recordings on the external drive can only be played with the box which recorded it. Many thanks for your help.
Hello Gilles Polin - who is Neil? I have not delved into the receiver part of the Freesat box so I am sorry I have no advice for you on the HDMI output.
I had the same problem as you and replaced the same caps that got it working but after a few months, the box's 2 front leds just flicker faintly but won't display any picture... Any ideas?
Glad you got the set working again, but sorry I can't help with the LED problem. I have one that has a segment that has gone bad but not bothered to replace it. This is now quite an old video and I have started to migrate away from these receivers to televisions with it built in which means less clutter, one remote and a saving on power!
@@gadgetsgimmicksandtech Thanks for the reply! I just had a look on another video where reflowing the cpu solved a power issue..might go for that.. wish me luck
You can up rate the voltage rating of the failed caps, ( it will not impact performance ) and you will get even more life from the device. They will be bigger but space should not be a problem, just got for it. Easy to see as the caps in question are domed when they fail. Simples !!
@@shush_ya_mush If it is totally dead I would check to see if there is an onboard fuse (I can't remember) - also the diodes for the PSU . Failing that, check for AC from the transformer.
Hi, I have a Foxsat box with the same problem. I have ordered some good quality Panasonic low esr capacitors. A couple of questions Do I need to discharge the big capacitor on the power board somehow or is it safe to do the job without discharging it? Also the ribbon cables do they just pull off or are there clips to release? I couldn't see because the video is sped up. Cheers 😊
Hello 1Kchess. It is always good practice to ensure that capacitors are discharged before diving in to repair a board. A lot depends on how long the unit has been unpowered for anyway. It has been a while since I worked on one of these but I think they just pull up - the white ones do, the others may have a small springy clip to just slip back to remove.
Hi Neil. You are obcviously into electronics and familiar with these Humax Rxs. I have a motorhome and want to use it in that from the 12vdc (4amp) but there is no Cig plugs available for 1100s with the positive pin in the centre. Mine is working ok from the mains but I dont really want to cut the 12vdc lead off and fit a cig plug on that and a socket on the psu wires. Any ideas where I can get the correct plug for the HDR 1100s so that I can make a lead up? fingers crossed...thanks.
Hello Terry Morton. Firstly, who is Neil? I am not familiar with the 1100 receiver, but having looked at a photo of it, it looks to be one of several possibilities - 2.5mm jack or 3.0mm jack - there is a thread on a forum here with some info - myhumax.org/forum/topic/power-supply-connector Also, have a look at something like this - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-AC-to-DC-Adjustable-Multi-Voltage-Power-Supply-Adapter-Plug-Charger-UK/323861369571?hash=item4b67a452e3:g:GNcAAOSwcUhdMFBw - you should be able to find the various adaptors online as well - getting a set will let you find the size you need.
@@simoncollins6248 I have not had that myself - have you tried to retune the box? One thing I hate about it is that it every now and then tries to do an auto tune and there is no way of stopping it if you are not there when it pops up. I have had to retune my box several times with channels coming and going and swopping transponders.
@@gadgetsgimmicksandtech yes I have. There's just 0% strength and quality signal. Must be the dish in need of repair. Well, at least I fixed the box, thank you certainly for that!
Hi, nice video. Do you have any repair tips for a Humax HDR-1000S that has lost all it's recordings and the hard drive doesn't respond? It's a known fault but seems to be the drive controller circuitry on the motherboard so a drive swap isn't the issue. Thanks
Shame as my HDR-1000S seems to have done the same as Toob41 but Humax have not give a reason for the failure just want to charge people for a reconditioned repaired unit .
If you are getting the green circle still after changing the components I change in this video, there are some other capacitors to change in the power supply that also cause the same symptoms - I have made a video on this but have to edit it still. I will link to it from here when I have finished it.
Hi Neil - well done for spotting the mistake! - nice to see someone paying attention. The correct specification is 680uF as per the written description - my narration is incorrect. Thanks for pointing it out as somehow I missed it totally!
Gadgets It’s probably more likely that people can’t be bothered to ask. I thought I’d ask publicly since people might be ordering their capacitors and need to know the sizes before opening up the box...
So true Garry Gemmell! - modern capacitors just don't seem to have the longevity that older ones did. I have replaced these capacitors several times now - using supposedly high quality components!

Common problem for many makes of receiver. The life expectancy of an Electrolytic capacitor is critically dependent on temperature.
