Thanks for your video. My Humax 1100 Freesat pvr went completely dead with no standby light and no hdd action. Tried your method after ordering some liquid flux. Didn't work at first, so cranked up the heat on the air gun and left it a bit longer - success!! Thank you again.
Got some liquid flux and carried out your processes. Bingo! It works! Also found the conductive pad to heat sink was dry. Replaced with new conductive paste. Now to piggy back a fan.. thanx a bunch!
Hi, great video.👍 Can I ask have you repaired any Humax HDR 1010s Freesat boxes the white version ? Mine no longer turns on an no standby light but it does continuously click which sounds like a hdd but that is unplugged an noise seem to be coming from the infrared socket as red light flickers on an off at the same time as the clicking but doesn’t power up. Could it be a fail capacitor?
LOL.. thank you so much!! I have a HDR-3000T and it was just not showing any power or lights.. And I just tried this with my heat gun as a bit of a Hail Mary.. AND IT WORKED! Similar CPU set up.. I didn't have flux but it seems to have worked anyway.. Thanks again! 👍🏻😁😂
Thanks, you’ve just saved me 200 pounds, 5 year old HDR-1100S, would not turn on, no led light, 12v power supply tested OK, opened box had 12v on the board so removed heat sink, sprayed CPU with some electrical contact lubricant, then used my heat gun on the CPU to touchable heat on chip.. Plugged in and heard the hard drive spin up. All back together and working … another 5 years ??
Hi Dave, used your flux and heat gun trick several times on the same box, why does it work? it shuts down due to overheat, but why dosent it restart when cool? is it a dry joint, now run the HDR-1100S without the lid, and use a smart plug to power down at night. will get a new box soon, but enjoy fixing things :-) cheers
I have an 1100S with same problem so will try this. I have a bottle of "Lötwasser" that came with a soldering iron. Translates as "soldering water", is that the right stuff? I know trained technicians stick their hands into live open units all the time because they know what not to touch, but I'm a little concerned that this may encourage amateurs to do the same with bad consequences. Shouldn't there be a big warning about opening a live unit?
Well I tried it, and at first I thought it had worked because I got a standby light. The I went to turn it on (whilst the top was off to check) and smoke started to come off one of the capacitors or diodes over which a little flux had spilt, a little micro flame came off it, and that's it now. Unit is dead. So this repair attempt is not without risk to the unit. I don't regret trying though.
Thanks a million Dave. I just did this to my Mum's Humax HDR1100 1tb. I ordered some Rosin flux and needle bottle. I wasn't sure how hot to set the heat gun, it only has two settings. Started off on low but wasn't getting there, so went to high and the flux was taking ages to evaporate. I stopped when I saw the cpu smoking slightly and thought that I may have overdone it a tad. All good though, Mum will be pleased I've rescued her hours of countdown and the chase! Cheers all the best 🙂
Unfortunately it hasn't worked as yet. Tried it twice. Used Serisol circuit board cleaner in a can and then Serviso Air brush Air duster. I also used a hair dryer to make sure it was dry. No go unfortunately. What else could it be?
@@SuperDavidcass I will have to buy a heat gun and liquid flux. Would I have done any more damage with what I did initially. Thank you for the reply so soon. Cheers, Dave
Hi Dave. How long would you reasonably expect a repair like this to last for if not able to fit a fan in the case? Not much room inside the hdr1100. Should I tell Mum to turn off the humax as much as possible? Difficult though for her as she's always recording something. Thanks again.

@PeterJackson-r7p no worries, I've fixed a lot of odd ones over my time
Glad a did a video on this
Thks for your comments
Brilliant instructions mate. I just fixed my Humax 1100S following your guidance. Thank you
These humex units are exspensive and this knowledge will be passed mate.. nice work

Could be low voltage issues which us caps, need to check with a meter,
We haven't done any of the white yet

Bloody legend did this myself using a flux pen and voila. Cheers for the guidamce

Kool vid! Attempting to buy liquid flux after confirming both 5v & 12v supplies.

You could try putting on some heat conducting paste on the heat sink to improve heat conduction from the IC. Good video.

Thanks. I'm off to the shed to try this fix out. I have the exact same unit and problem.
Absolute legend! I just successfully did this on a 4000T.
No worries, I've done lots of repairs over years I'm a TV technician
@@SuperDavidcass Sorry to say that I spoke too soon, the device did boot but the firmware was corrupted! Thanks anyway

Hey Dave thanks for the video, just did exactly what you did and wow it worked saved me $$ thanks heaps
Does this need to be Rosin or will any Liquid flux do?
Any liquid, water like flux so it flushes right under the chip

@@davidglazebrook2781 no damage from what you did, be careful with heat gun about 300 degress, 3 inch away, moving constantly for about 10 seconds
@@davidglazebrook2781 maybe cheaper to drop.in to a repair place get them to do it 5 min job
@@SuperDavidcass Thank you again for the info. Much appreciated.
Dry joints were a common problem on these units
The humexs are all the same and clearly made to die this way, did all this and its all back alive... Also fitted a USB fan to inside of it...

Yes don't leave on all the time, if can't fit a fan fit extra metal to top, possible couple of years
Thks
