Thanks for this video. I have two Humax boxes and the remotes for both were becoming unusable as the OK buttons had become increasingly unresponsive. This relatively easy fix has saved me attempting to purchase two new remotes. I didn’t have the alcohol you used so used aftershave - Brut - as one of your commenters suggested, and also washed the buttons and case in warm, soapy water, as someone else suggested. Made sure they were all dry before putting back together. They now both work like new!
These Humax remotes are quite poor & I'm on my second one within a year. Now that the warranty has expired I thought I'd try this fix & it worked! The hardest bit is separating the casing. Be prepared to do a little damage because the case will not separate until you've pushed a thin object firmly into place. It's only then that you can start to lever the two sections apart. I had no Isopropyl & made do with some window cleaner.
Thanks for this video. I was unsure whether these things could be taken apart without completely ruining them. These instructions show that they can. I used WD-40 Specialist Contact Cleaner (NOT ordinary WD-40) which worked a treat. Carefully cleaned all the buttons and the surface of the board and now each one works well again. These remotes are still available from Humax new, but cost £27, so it's worth taking a few minutes to do this and get it working properly again.
The main problem was getting the case off. I had to use a blunt metal blade. I cleaned the circuit board button contacts with isopropyl alcohol (on some I could actually see the residue of the rubber buttons on the surface), but I cleaned the rubber key pad with a little water, washing up liquid and fingers - just rinse it off and allow to dry before replacing it.
Thanks this and changing the batteries worked perfectly. On mine the remote still lights up when you press a key even if there isn't enough power for the IR to work. Although I noticed since cleaning all the buttons now work and I'm no longer having to press so hard to change channel.
Great instructievideo thank you. When opening the remote indeed use a plastic object preventing damage. Tip make sure to pin point the exact klik/ lock pins that holds it togheter. I had broken a few pins in the corner while opening. (Due to drinking some alcohol instead of using it for cleaning :-) Stay safe stay healthy
I restored a TV's remote recently but on this same Humax Foxsat HDR handset although now no longer greasy and grimey the same buttons: 1, 6, 9 and most importantly media still not working after a clean :( Anyone know any reset codes other than 0 + OK to restore function? Thanks.
Thank you so much for this video. I took my remote apart and cleaned it with just water, and now it's working. Thanks again. 😊❤
Thank you, sorted my RM-LO3 control out which was driving me mad, now works perfectly.

Thanks Gareth. You saved the day! Humax controller would not select the box. I used aftershave as alcohol and the controller is like new! Thanks!
Worked Perfectly ..... Many Thanks Gareth you saved me buying a new one .... **
Fixed sticking button issues! Thanks a lot!

Useful tool to open plastic cases is a set of guitar picks (plectrums). These are very cheap and will often open cases without damage.
