- After doing my DJI Action 2 videos where I tested things like video quality, audio quality, low-light performance, etc, I thought I'd put a video together about the HorizonSteady feature as I didn't talk about it in the previous videos. So here's some info about HorizonSteady with the DJI Action to, and some test shots with HorizonSteady on and off.

Well, I learned something I didn't expect from this - when watching I saw an icon on the settings screen (HS is on the top right, this one is on the top left) which I'd not noticed before - it sets loop recording, and I didn't know it was there, even though I have no immediate use for it. Anyway, it's worth mentioning that the crop that happens on all these cameras with electronic horizon lock is inevitable - think how it's done - the 4:3 sensor is being turned sideways and you're getting 16:9 out of it, so.... The great advantage of the Action 2 vs the Go 2 in this respect is that the processing happens in-camera, not as a process-and-copy operation in a phone or PC afterwards.

How long is the battery life at 4k? Also, can it run 4k/60+Linear mode (no fish eye) + rock steady?
I thought the Action 2's image was very soft. Then I started suspecting it might have a focus issue (I know it's fixed focus), did some tests and after watching your video Tamara, freezing it at 3:20 pretty much confirmed. With the same framing than you, I have an equally sharp (in focus) background, but I look blurry. And I run tests with controlled lighting, in 4K, enabling and disabling stabilization modes and all the same: a blurry center of the frame... The camera is now somewhere in Europe being inspected by DJI. Wish me luck!

Thank you that was very useful, I’m a good many years older than yourself and things don’t sink in as much as they used to, so now I know where rocksteady and horizon steady are, can you set both of them on at the same time or is it one or the other, I’ll be using 1080p at 30fps in standard, again many thanks for your help, Mike, oh and happy new year
Hey Mike 😊 No problem, I'm glad you found it helpful. You can only select one or the other. But if you choose HS rather than RS then the footage will still be stabilised as well as locking the horizon. Happy new year to you too 😊

will the horizon steady be stable as it moves?
Yeah it's pretty stable.
Not sure when the feature was added, buy for me the game changer was Horizon Balancing. It works in 4K and keeps the horizon balance between -45 and +45 degrees, which is a nice full 90degree angle.
I don't quite have a use for the somewhat crazy horizon steady, but the Horizon Balancing is great for vlogging 👍🏻👍🏻

I love D-Cinelike, I never shoot in Normal now. I use it all the time so made some LUTs for it too to make it quick to colour correct the footage. I made them for the Pocket 2 but they work for the Action 2 as well with minor tweaks 🙂 ruclips.net/video/7RHLtlDi4bM/видео.html

Issue with the pendent and jitters. how best to to stop this with using HB..2.7k 24fps in morning
Sounds like you’re shooting in low light so the image stabilisation isn’t very effective. You’d need a gimbal or to use a different camera.
At first I can’t find this menu until you did 😅😅

Great Review 🔥 can you so some Video for Perfect Settings on the Action 2? Do you prefer D-Cinelog or normal? Whats with iso? Whats best for Indoor and Outdoor? Your colourgrading Looks Good. You have some Luts?:)
Thanks! Yeah im planning on doing a couple of videos on the best camera settings. I always shoot in D-Cinelike as I think it looks better and I have some LUTs for colour correcting the footage. All you have to do is drop the LUTs on the footage, in most cases if exposed correctly you won't have to make any colour correction adjustments bit.ly/3nLtYc1
@@TamaraGabrielUK nice i will buy :) How high should the iso be?100-800 or 1600? Im Planing to fly indoors with fpv drone. Do you prefer horizonlock or RS for something like that? And is your shutter Always Double the Framerate?
In all the videos I've done so far I've just filmed with auto exposure as I don't have ND filters yet. But my preference is to shoot using the 180 degree shutter rule, so as soon as I get filters that's how I'll shoot. I'd always say to try and keep your ISO to as low as you can go, but there's another test I want to do like I did for the Pocket 2 to see how high I can push the ISO on the Action 2 before the quality starts to look pretty horrendous. So maybe I can share that next week too.

Still deciding as I'm in the middle of putting my comparison video together, and looking over all the footage and comparing stuff. So I'm hoping to make my mind up soon, the video will be out next week 😊

I made a video yesterday using the 1080 at 60fps, and the horizon steady was nice and stable , albeit cropped in.
However when I tried with Horizon balancing, it was jerky as hell.
Have you noticed this, Tamara?

Sure. I was planning on doing a quick video about HB soon anyway so I'll see if that happens for me. Does it just happen to you in 1080p60?

So far only tested 1080 60. I didn't notice it so much with some quick testing indoors on 30fps, but more tests will be needed.
(Also I'm using H.264 as the HEVC doesn't look as good on utube)

Does action 2 get hot at 1080p ??
How much time can we record ?
I didn't test at 1080, as I tested an extreme setting. At 4K120 you'd get about 10 mins continuous recording in the environment I tested it in, by that time the battery would have run out rather than it overheating. How long do you want to record for continuously for one clip in 1080?
@@TamaraGabrielUK I want to record for 30 minutes straight with the battery set up clipped to it at 1080p 30 fps ? Is it good enough or should i go with Hero 9 or insta 360r ?

How is DJI osmo action 1 ? I heard
It doesn't have Horizon levelling.
I am confused Insta 360r twin is a good camera but it is also expensive like Hero 9/10.
I find DJI action 1 very good and light on pocket but it doesn't have horizon levelling. Outdoor shoots only. For indoor i can use my phone
I haven't used the Osmo Acrion 1 so I'm not sure. For the Action 2, filming 1080 for 30 mins, I can try this out and let you know what happens.

I guess Horizon steady is better when using the the chest magnet attachement for POV shots
Yeah, it would definitely be handy for those shots.
You didn’t do the mandatory 360 degree spin of the cam to show the horizon not moving even when the cam is upside down :-)

The colour looks natural and even better, the image quality. But for action practicality the Gopro will take the cup home.
