Was JAY-Z The Best And Worst Thing To Happen To MEMPHIS BLEEK?

- "Bleek could be one hit away his whole career, as long as I'm alive he's a millionaire" That line by Jayz in the Diamonds from Sierra Leon remix told me everything I needed to know about what happened to Bleek's career. The biggest takeaway was that Jayz was already coming to terms with Bleek never amounting to what he was set out to be early on. As an artist, Bleek wasn't bad at all. He had a unique sounding rap voice and all the opportunity in the world being attached to Jay since a young age. But for whatever reason, as Jay himself recognized, Bleek was incapable of making a hit song and therefore didn't reach his full potential. Did Jay-z have a hand in what happened? Here's what I think Stunted #memphisbleek musical Growth.

Facts
…his whole damn career lbda
💯😂
Damn straight 🤣
Yep
He was never the worst thing for Memphis Bleek, Bleek wasn't even a rapper Jay made him one and made him rich
💯
That part
A lot of people don’t know this, Bleek only rapped because he respected Jay Z growing up and Jay Z put pressure on him to rap instead of being in the streets.
He that rich no more.
Pshh I believe Jay kept that nigga right where he wanted him.
Bleek Was A Good Role Player On Team ROC. 💎
He was the right hand man in music to Jay, just a rapping version of Ty-Ty but I do agree he played the role he was supposed to and I don’t feel like he got carried or sonn’d But he not as old as Jay say yeah you my lil bro until you a grown ass man😂
Playing your role doesnt mean stunting your own growth peoples view point on loyalty is the hell off
Facts
Facts that nigga had good career
His appearance on Coming of Age was good, but Bleek’s career panned out the way it should have; he was just an above average rapper drowning in the sea of immense talent of that era.
Thank you
True he held his own soooo many from that era are dead, in jail, or bankrupt💎
BTW, Jay wrote ALL of Coming Of Age, he wrote Bleeks bars for Shyhiem
Saying he was "above average" is giving Bleek too much credit. He was just a dude who could rap and that isn't saying much.
@@BaronSemediLive Hey man, just live and let die.
Bleek always seem to be cool with being Jay little man, Like he had nothing to prove because of Jay-Z he was already down with the top dog
The Coming of Age song on Jay-z's Reasonable Doubt featuring Bleek was a great record.
True, the coming of age sequel was dope too. Really wish there was a there a third.
Part 2 was 🎯🎯🎯🔥🔥🔥too
Jay wrote the whole song
That track was fire
It’s one of my favorites.
Memphis Bleek and Robert Horry defined being the best role player you can be in life lbs
Never be the man themselves but had moments of flash
Yooooo! I was thinking the same thing while watching this video.

🤣 Well Said
@@stuntedgrowthmusic I try Stunted I trust lbs.
Btw keep up the good work with these Stunted Growths, definitely enjoying the content.
Robert Horry delivered rings in the clutch tho. I can’t say Bleek did that. He just played his position & Jay rewarded him.
The understanding is my favorite bleek album. Idc how anyone feel, that’s a classic album
Fire album for sure. Might bump today for nostalgic purposes.
Bro I’m with you fuck who says what I been rocking with Bleek

@@flygenyus2186 yooo.. I definitely forgot about that track... ma don't ask why I love getting high while i drive! Fire.. thx for the reminder. Putting it on now
@@MrWright2 no problem 🤝
Bleek had a much better career then he get credit for Him being in Jay shadow was a gift and curse
He played his role
Good point
I believe Bleek was and is super talented. We play the cards we dealt. Standing tall in the Golden era of hip hop shiiiiiiid!!!....there is a few that got caught in the shuffle. Props to the Memph Man💯💯
Bleek wasn’t stunted IMO, because he made the most out of what he had. He was never an A level lyricist or an A level song maker. He did his thing and Jay-Z definitely gave him the proper opportunity. Bleek had a solid career
Facts, Best explanation fr fr. I think bleek has no regrets, he seemed to be very aware of himself and his surroundings through his career. Bleek was a hustler so I'm sure he did more for the roc than what's on paper.
I think with "stunts" it's more of a "Rapper XYZ could be 1st place like their famous friend" kind of thing. It's all about timing in the grand scheme of things since like you said Bleek did his thing. If Bleek made Reasonable Doubt in 1996 with his lyrics from Coming of Age, but swap out the beats or lyrics for either album, Jay-Z would be the B+ level rapper. The trick is, the general audience that helped make Jay's sales better than Bleeks wouldn't be able to tell the difference because both artists can hold their own.
@@seinenwax94jr9 Bleek on his best day as a lyricist is 8/10 and a song maker 9/10. Jay-Z on the other hand is 9/10 in both areas on his worst days. Bleek had dope beats throughout his career and made the most of his abilities, but he wasn’t even top 5 on Roc-A-Fella IMO. Jay-Z, Kanye West, Beanie Sigel, Freeway, and Young Chris were better even though Bleek probably cracks the top 5 as far being a polished artist is concerned. Bleek reached his full potential and had a good career as a rapper.
@@Cashcrop91 I really enjoy this page, but this dude don’t know hip hop like he knows basketball. I mean that with all due respect too btw.
Plus don't forget Hov wrote the verse for coming of age for Bleek
@BLEEK played his position & got his 💰 never in trouble with the 👮 i don't see anything stunted about that..
#FACTS!
🎯🎯🎯
💯 a respected hustle!!!
Factssss he was never nice
True he released 👍 albums: Coming of Age, The Understanding, and Made. This was during late 90s to mid 2000s and there was a lot going on in 🎶 at the time. People are recognizing him more now because of the💩💩that's classified as 🎶 today!!💎💎

Possible future episode suggestion. The stunted growth of the NEW New York of Tru life, Saigon, and Papoose.

It's still crazy how Papoose has been spitting since DMX debuted but finally dropped an album 15 years later.
This...💯
@@seinenwax94jr9 and it was fiyah but no real promotion
@@everythingdivine Oh yeah!! Labels should never shelve albums imo. They waste artists time by trying to make it go Gold when many albums celebrated by music lovers end up having a life of it's own inspiring other artists.
I'll just say this, Bleek never let me down, when I heard him on the Mic. Still got some of his best work in my Rotation.
When game was dissing him he took many years to respond.
Serious productions Jay-Z responded and bleek did so seductive
“Is that yo chick” was technically Jay-Z’s hit too. It was on his 4th album as well as Bleek’s.
It was a bonus track
🔥
It was only jay z twista and missy. It was a diss record originally.
Man what!!! how many verses Jigga and Bleek had on that song
They didn't even need twista he was a bonus
You know what? Bleek actually had a good career. He dropped 4 ALBUMS in 8 years on Def Jam. His singles and album cuts were produced Just Tim Swizz Rockwilder Kanye Scott 9th Bink! and his videos were always on rotation on MTV. He had the best features in Hip Hop. He got Nas to respond to his bars. Plus he was in a few Hip Hop movies. Bleek's albums may have not been classics but bloody hell he was pushed! Bleek got a lot more exposure than his fellow NY MC's....
He was a solid gold rapper
Very good points

Aye bruh 😄 sumhw that aint fair
I’m really starting to like your Stunted Growth content. Although I don’t always agree with some of your opinions on the reasons behind some of the artists stunted growth, I can respect how you lay it all out. Keep it up👍🏾
First. Definitely wasn't expecting this but I know this one 🔥🔥🔥
Back then, The Roc had ALOT of heavy hitters. Bleek was just average 🤷🏽♂️
Hell no u bugging he was fire 🔥to
Man Jay had his hand in many classic Roc era artists. I mean the only one that made it because he’s in my opinion bigger than Jay artistically is Kanye. Love the vids bro. If I could offer a video suggestion. Please do Xzibit. Even I forget about him from time to time, but in the early 2000s Em and Xzibit were my favorite rappers. I know about the Pimp My Ride era ruining his street cred, but I need more details.
Yeah X and Em both came up during the same time under Dre but X became the pimp my ride dude
Love me some Xzibit especially with Tha Alkaholiks. He's like the inverse of Memphis Bleek in that Xzibit both rapped better and was more financially successful than the artists who were associated with him(Likwit Crew)
Bleek played his part .He's eating and been eating and will continue to eat
He is currently worth only 200 G’s which is like a quarter of an average house.
@@SCARLEMSCARS hmmm.well the average American aren't worth 200K so .he's eating better than ALot if us
Memphis Bleek without question the Scottie Pippen of Rap why I say that it's because Bleek & Pippen are a lot alike. Both are one of the best in their field but was stuck in the next man's shadow.
Good comparisons
Bleek one of the best in his field? Lol.
I Get What You’re Saying But Nah. When Mike Retired 2x Pip Was Still A Great Player & Carried The Bulls Then Was Good On Portland. When Hov Retired Nobody Seen Bleek Carrying Roc-A-Fella On His Back.
@@87alock not at all Bleek was stuck in Hov shadow his whole career.
Naw Beans always rapped better than Bleek
Bleek with the exception of Robert Horry is the only other person I’d say never wanted to be the man but just to be apart of good movement
Bleek had bangers. He was a dope NY rapper. M.A.D.E. is such a dope album all the way through.
It should have been platinum but it was leaked
Facts...
I’ve never seen Talib Kweli or Memphis Bleeks without a 🧢 or rag in their entire careers.
There’s a scene on Backstage where Bleek aint got a fitted on. I dont remember if he gettin a hair cut. Here’s another one: Ghostface.. there are some pic or videos of him with no hat on, but very rare
Watch drink champs. He took his hat off . Nore said the same thing to him.
He was essentially Weebaby from the Wire. Loyal to Rocafella, maybe loved the game but content being a soldier, and didn’t really fight to be in the spotlight. He seems content to me 🤷🏿♀️
Right idk why there’s a stunted growth on Bleek he chilling playing the cut
I have to say to say...this is not only one of my favorite channels but I also have a great appreciation and respect for your work. One of the things I appreciate most is that you go beyond just giving us information about the artist, is your interpretation of the facts and how it has affected the subject, with evidence to back up your point! Bleek was an O.K. rapper. I don't think he would have lasted long in the industry without knowing Jay. Imagine if had grew up around the corner from Jay Z and not in the same building as him, we probably wouldn't even know who he is.
Bleek & Dame got into an argument about Bleek being Jays Lil dog. Bleek wasn’t trying to hear it, he wasn’t trying to be the top dog. He knew Jay was the best & he just supported him on his journey.
After Jay's funeral:
Bleek: I'm in the will.
Beyonce: Where?
Bleek: ...idk...somewhere?
@stryfetc1 Because it's true
You made me laugh for the first time today!
Bleek was always a decent artist he had some good records. I think the expectations of being Roca Fellas next up was too much to overcome. Especially when Beanie Siegel, Freeway, and Cam'ron coming up after him.
And then Kanye stepping in front of the Mic but he has 👍 piece of mind I would imagine.
@@jasminemonroe5784 Definitely him as well
Jay COULD/MIGHT have taken the hit from Bleek but being from the south and a NYC music fan, Round Here was AIGHT. Like Jadakiss and Fat Joe started doing, rapping over down south beats, that might have been more of Bleeks lane. Jay appealed to the women and big time hustlers. Beans appealed to the streets and hard-core niggas. Bleek COULD have appealed to the south, his name IS Memphis after all
hmmmm , nice breakdown, never thought of that all
He put TI on the record when he was just starting to buzz and he got Trick Daddy actually spittin bars (or at least got us New Yorkers payin more attention to Trick)

We need 1 of these on Ace Hood, The Boot Camp Click, Kurupt, Stat Quo, Lil Scrappy, even Jadakiss to an extent. Either way bro, yo content is always 🔥
Wait a minute.. I dont know about the rest, but take Boot Camp Clik out the list. They always been underground independent, never for the masses. Nothing stunted there. Kurupt, I understand. Jadakiss too, I think his record with Mariah should’ve been the one for him but never got that push.

This a good one 👌🏽
BLEEK WAS AND IS BLESSED 🙌
I'm sitting here watching your channel watching all these has-beens and thought to myself" if Memphis Bleek, Silk the Shocker, Juelz Santana and maybe Drag-on from the Ruff Ryders and form a group called T.S.O's which stands for The, Slept, On's they would make way more sense than Slauder house".
I remember Growing up in the 2000s. Memphis was like the biggest punchline in Hip Hop. Because everyone felt he couldnt Rap. And it was Coincidence his Mans was one of the Goats
Funny because he Rap better than alot of Rappers that came after him
It was The Game, he was hatin hard on Bleek
He used to be hot as devil sandals. Now he's Drag-On of the ROC.

I will say it is pretty sad that my favorite Memphis Bleek song is Dear Summer
Bleek didn't have alot of hit records and that is what hurt his career. On most of the big songs he was on, bleek was featuring.
Cant believe i forgot how cold his flow was💯💯💰
Is that ur chick was actually Twister Song .. it dropped in Chicago 1st then they added bleek for the video and it was a good look for him
Off topic but I've never seen Memphis Bleek without a hat on🤔
Also, how come Jay-Z doesn't have the same reputation as Diddy as far as being cursed? Out of all the rappers Jay worked with only ONE is a real, REAL legend. And now he's insane. 😵
Love this video.. i do belive he would have carved out some kind of rap career even if he never knew Jay-Z .. He was talented and had some good songs and solid albums
I dont know… what other rappers from March you know besides Jay, Bleek, Jaz-O and Sauce Money? I dint think Jay wanted anybody from Marcy to shine.. He ended Jaz-O and Sauce Money careers
*in life sometimes it ain't what you know but who you know🤔*
Watching this video seems like Bleek spent too many summers by Jay's side lol. Never officially unattached from him. Kobe Black Mamba realized what he had to do and he separated from Shaq. Bleek never got that memo I see.
Good video Bruh!
There’s a paper plane in the beginning of The story of O.J video
Those 5 bars about Memphis Bleek on the Sierra Leone remix is like a whole mantra for "Weed Carrier" rappers.(I hate that term tbh but it's better than "Famous rapper's best friend who got bars) It's kinda tragic in a sense because they're talented in their own right, but rarely receive their flowers outside of being cool with the big homie. It's almost a lose-lose situation in the long run because when they do go solo and be their own boss, their product doesn't hit the same because they lost all of their connections due to label disputes.
Memphis Bleek got so many hits tho
And idk where you from but when “My Mind Right” came out with Clue on it Bleek was definitely 1 of the hottest rappers in the city at that very point
TRIVIA......THAT SO BROOKLYN BEAT IS FROM BEANIE SIGEL'S SONG "DIE"...

Damn why the casanova hate at the end?
Jay-Z was always for self ,that's one of the reason most of artists is no longer checking for Jay-Z, not a fan and never will be fan of his (Jay-Z) is music
Jay z was at his best due to rocefella crew. Once all of them left, Jay z lost his identity.
Bleek was cool far from bad Jay-Z helped and hurt his career but I think Bleek wasn't getting any further on his own without Hov, his career is average at best a few gold albums, platinum plaques he's had a better career than most he was on one of the greatest record labels of all time.
Holla from the dynasty album was Bleek true lyrical ability if he rapped like that all the time to beats like that he would of been more successful but he kept his skill level at 3.5 most of the time to stay good with Jay!
I loved Bleek's song 'Like Dat' man was that a banger
10:42 to 10:59 lol who were you referring to?
"Memphis Bleek is" and "I get high" are my two favorite Bleek songs

he's my favorite rapper from roc-a-fella, after i heard memph bleek is, i became a fan of his.
Top 3 Hip-Hop mans of all time along with Crunchy Black and Spliff Star!
My comment on what took place is gonna be personal being that Bleek and I lived on the same floor in 534, he was like a baby bro and me and his older brother was like bothers. I see it like this, in the beginning he was a group rapper that had to change and be groomed as a solo due to industry politics, that I as well as many notice he's better on features than solo songs. The 3 things was 1 which was probably the most major on the come up Bleek was the young artist kinda side by side with Ja Rule, Bleek due to his brother's accident takes a leave from the game to tend to family situations, his brother is on Miami in a coma, Bleek take reigns moves his family to Florida, on top of that shortly after he was having a son. So in that absence, Ja catapults in front and now Bleek has to play catch up. Nobody every bring up that weight on his young shoulders cause it's personal and not in the music. 2 he kinda shy away from mainstream which mainstream was what was needed to become greater, especially at that time when radio was really beginning to create stardom for artist. He wanted to stay true to the streets so most producers that may have made him the mainstream hits, he wouldn't work with. IDK Jay was definitely the best thing that happened to him, because it changed his life for the better til this day. People like to equate success with money but real and true success is deeper than money, its life. To be honest ain't no telling what Bleeks life would've been without Jay, cause he was at a point the streets was his living and how he made a living. Jay saved his life so there can't be no worst to it from a perspective. I know this is long but perspectives are personal and can't really be summed up quickly. lol
Jay tried to make Bleek better, but you can't take that hood mentality out of Bleek. He don't want to work hard, he said it himself.
He got lazy after his 2nd album. Bleek was doing good and was hungry. He fucked up by releasing his 3rd album so late when your many successful albums that year.
The fact that Jay-Z told him that "He didn't need him(Memphis Bleek)" makes me wonder if he had no other choice but to me Jay-Z sidekick and just gave up rap
To the title of the video: Yes.
