The Diplomat's Career Was FUN, FLASHY And A DISAPPOINTMENT! What Stunted Their Growth?

- Camron, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana and Freaky Zeaky. The Diplomats (also known as Dipset) Formed in 1997
The diplomats. One of Hip hop most well known and well respected groups of all time. If there were any rap group that capitalized early in their careers and made somewhat of the most of their influence it was dipset. Together they're cultural icons that were in control of shaping the direction of hip hop at one point in the early 2000s. Their mixtapes and full length projects, highlighted by the series “Diplomatic Immunity” 1 and 2 led their ascendance and received high praise at the peak of their run, but became a quick climax, that in just a few years was realized it would be peak of where together they could take their unique sound. Separately they all had success, and also a chance at being bigger than they eventually became. They made magic as a collective, and are still relatively relevant today, but it always feels when their name is brought up they didn’t quite hit the mark. The problem that led to Dipset actually falling short by all accounts was actually just that. Everything not effectively coming together to at least seal the lid on a great career. Just one that has been stunted at crucial points, and here are 3 of the biggest reasons I think this happened. Legends in the game, yet under delivered in the grand scheme.

Was The Diplomats a Disappointment?
Once the beef with 50 happened it was over
They got major internal issues you can tell shit before they got slaughtered in the verses they looked like they just got done arguing backstage.
No not at all! We are still talking about them good or bad. Yea the Lox won, but they even admit that Cam is nice, which he is. Juelz lyrically hung w Wayne on ICFMF mixtape. Jimmy Got his own thing going. It’s just different times IMO
Camron beef with nas and 50 destroyed his career
@@quanbeenonnetwork469 don’t forget the beef with nas
Cam counting money while freestyling on Rap City is still one of the most legendary moments in hip hop

Bro that sh*t was so cold. I wish I could've posted the whole thing. He spazzed. It felt like pieces were really off the dome too. You could tell by his crew's reaction. Prime Killa
Lame
Cam ain’t the blame for dipset’s downfall. He stated that his mother was sick during the 50 beef so he fell back & Jim told him he wanted to fake beef but cam said that would confuse the fans. He also pointed out that Juelz was lazy & was hooked on lean then he asked Cam to release him. If cam is the blame then why was Vado poppin when Juelz was nowhere to be found? Jim took Stack’s style & beefed with Max when Max got him hot. Jim today is nice now but he’s really the blame for the group’s downfall. As for the verzuz, them niggas never fucked with each other
Very well put
🎯
Cam was not a good leader tho and I understand he left he left because his mom was sick but he left when 50 was killing NY so that’s just bad timing. Even cam at the versus seem like he just don’t fuck with niggas idk Shit is weird. And juelz is the perfect example of wasted talent smh
@@duanemoody257 Before Cam fell back NY was dead tbh. The South had already taken over & after the Game did 300 bars, fif & g unit wasn't on top. I agree on the verzuz. Until the day Cam wants to speak on it we'll never know why he was originally bout to leave MSG before deciding to get on the stage wit the rest of them

I wouldn’t call them a disappointment. They dropped some amazing music as the dips and each main member had decent solo runs too. I do wish juelz had gone further after working with Wayne though. That would’ve been so dope to see/hear.
He was hooked on lean juelz couldn’t focus
Lil Wayne wouldn't be in his position he's in without Santana and Dip Set.
Juelz should and could have been in a similar position yet he couldn't produce nor reach his potential.
@@Hiphop4life7083 your crazy af lmao cash money ran rap for a few years before he even met dip set
They had one good mixtape together, Wayne has 6 or 7 classic mixtapes alone
Wayne out rapped Santana which at the time ppl didn't think he could do .. that was the beginning of the legendary Wayne and Santana peak .. as we now know as of today
I’m still celebrating DipSET even though they lost the verzus..”I really mean it” takes me back to a special place in time.

I cant call Cam or the Dips a disappointment. Cam got 2 classics and Diplomatic Immunity is a classic. The real disappointment is Juelz . This man was going bar for bar with peak Wayne and did not capitalize on the popularity at the time.
I think Cam got 4 classics
That's the thing about NY rappers, they are always overhyped. Papoose. Saigon. Maino. Canibus. Every 2 years or so there's always a guy from NY that the East Coast is pushing heavy and they never do anything because they're simply wack.
@@sthao1733 I diaagree. Cats like Maino yes they are overhyped. But the others you named, they actually were really dope artists. The problem with them was their stagnation. No proper label to market them to their particular audience, a delay or a travesty in the makings of their debut albums with little budgets, or simply them being limited in their range with their artistry. They were far from wack. They just didn't get the chance to shine as they should've due to factors stagnating them
@@sthao1733 cant even say wack. Natural NY rappers aint easy to be marketed cause they’ll always be in another shadow. Wouldnt say they wack they either get too big headed or they fame rushed em quick and they fall short
@@sthao1733 them the type of rappers who think every song gotta be 100bars of extreme knowledge and big words 🤣 they aint know howto make a catchy song not even like Nas could
Dipset was only a disappointment for people who were late to the party 🥳 I was rocking with them since school days, and it was a great time! I will say though, the versus wasn't a good showing, but people act like the Lox aren't the frikkin Lox!! Barely anyone from NY can handle them in that arena.

That rapcity freestyle was legendary!🔥💯
Great video. Thank you.
I was 14-15 yrs old when I first was exposed to them ('02, "Dipset Anthem"), and I've forever been a fan ever since. The diplomats are great rap group but they underachieved and Cam'ron was an intelligent man but was a bad leader. Diplomats could have been Young Money before Young Money, ego and they didn't maximize their full talent. Even the underacts did not pop because of the horrible leadership from the squad. JC you nailed and speak straight facts Cam'ron dropped the ball on the Dipset Juelz Santana dropped only 1 album since 2005 that's horrible. They had acts like JR Writer, Stack Bundles, Max B, Ja ja, 40 Cal, Purple City Byrd Gang group, S&S Uk group and other acts as well none of them popped all talented horrible leadership from the top screwed up all those musicians.

Listen... I know the underrated, underappreciated, and overtalented trio of legends from Yonkers embarrassed them.. but that shouldn't diminish what dipset brought to the game in the early 00s.. Facts..... everything else is just a opinion..... you nailed it totally. Jim is the only one who let his talent take him as far as it could bring him...Great point that Jim wasn't even a rapper just a hype man for the Dips. Jim made his name solo and as part of Byrdgang

@@Mikelauren212 I’m talking about from a business standpoint. After the fall of Rocafella, Cam went MIA in terms of expanding the brand & the label. Being a boss means leading by example & making sure the business doesn’t fail. Jay Z went on to create Roc Nation, who (ironically enough) Jim is now signed to. Even with that versus battle, you could tell Cam was unprepared & just thought he’d get by on being the “fly” guy. But Jim & the Lox are still actively making music on a regular, so that’s why their performances stood out.

Camron is a top tier star but despite the longer catalog he could never shake being in Mase's crossover superstar shadow ..to this day! Also the fact that Juelz stopped making albums in the 2000s has hurt them. Lastly, Jimmy now is the best member but he released these latest solo albums a decade too late ...i miss CDs
Jim Jones being a informant is what nailed the coffin shut forever. Dipset dug their own grave trying to compete with the LOX.
