Beanie Sigel COULD'VE BEEN The G.O.A.T! What Happened? Stunted Growth

  • In the late 90s, Beanie Sigel hit the scene and initially showed skills perfect for era. Hip Hop had transitioned to being more about story telling, bars and being authentic of the street talk. There wasn't a better guy for that than the Broad Street Bully. He had the look, the talent, respect in the streets and the vision to be a boss. His rise to the top of the game was swift, but lasted only about 6-7 years, which is good for an everyday artist, but for Beans a lot more was expected. He had his own label(State Property), clothing line that was dope, and he was backed by the biggest and some say greatest hip hop artist of all time and one of the greatest MCs ever, Jay-z. In my opinion Sigel had the wrong people around him that encourage him to remain in the streets and it led to him spending too much time away from the game in and out of prison.
When he returned, his label had been split in two and fans were starting to feel a way about both sides. This caused them to lose the momentum they had and Sigel fell behind his peers in a way because of it. He would also get shot and lose his voice, making his natural energy and grittyness on the mic fade. Fans weren't patient and Sigel also took a strange direction, dumming down his bars and attempting to ride the drill wave to fans surprise and disappointment. Since recently he's been trying to build himself back to what it was, but unfortuntely the game has completely changed and his style is simply not wanted BY THE MASSES. People like me still respect him as one of the greatest, and "Feel it in the air" is a top 5 hip hop song of all time. Salute to him, but here are 3 reasons his growth was stunted and he missed the target.

Beans was in the streets too HEAVY....catching that charge and going to jail killed his momentum PERIOD. As far as rap, I put him in the same class as Jadakiss. Street rapper who repped for the STREETS musically. Plus Roc-a-Fella broke up and Beans was bitter about Jay not seeing him in jail. Jay put this man in position and he messed up by all the street activity. Once the Roc broke , all the Philly artist (State Prop, etc.) had to fend on their own. Def Jam dropped Chris and Neef after their second project, Peddi Crack blew his deal, Freeway was never going to crossover heavy but he had his little run. Oschino ended doing a bid. Crazy but Jay was transitioning to corporate America and getting with Beyonce and had to leave all his street ties/beef/rapper drama behind him.
