    I never forget being locked up with Cassidy when he was fighting that murder with Ar-Ab and him and I had to go to court on the same day and when we got to court and was getting put into the holding cells Cassidy made a remark that rubbed me and every other inmate who went to court that day the wrong way … as we were being loaded in the cell Cassidy told the guards “I don’t go into the holding cell with the regular people” 🤦🏽‍♂️ and was sure enough put in a holding cell by himself … we (the other inmates and I) was giving Cassidy hell that day down in the holding cells waiting for court by banging on the cell doors and repeating what he said in a whining voice and was getting on his ass bkuz he was in P.C. … ever since that day it was always hard for me to enjoy Cassidy’s music as much as I did before but I do root for him with his battle rap career for the simple fact he represents Philly

    Everyone forgets possibly the most unfortunate rapper with the most potential. The D.O.C wrote some of y’all favorite verses and was at one time the best rapper on the west coast. His story is sad yet mind boggling, Beanie Seagal reminds me of him in a lot of ways.

      @@benchwarmerss9165 Papoose just didn’t fit the mold for mainstream appeal. He, like Cassidy, was just a great punchline street rapper. He kept the $1.5M after Jive dropped him (Jive was trash w/ rap artists) & kept the streets fed w/ mixtapes while holding Remy Ma down while she did her bid. Nobody really saw Papoose coming out the streets to be the next up in mainstream rap.

      Cass and Fab shouldn't be grouped together. Even tho I do believe Fab should be on an higher level (label issues did hurt him) but I gotta him credit for consistency, mixtapes kept him afloat. Cassidy on the other hand ........ murder case to the car crash plus him leaving Swizz (without no direction/vision) it was predictable for his fall off.

    This one was a good one. Goes to show you when you have talent, you're able to get backed by a legendary producer, and you went #1 twice you should stay away from the wrong crowd. Lock yourself in the studio and stay focused. Too many loose focus too quick and it squanders their opportunities and careers.

    Cass could spit but he can't formulate songs. That's his biggest growth stunt in my opinion. Plus he stop dealing with Swiss growth stunt number 2. Swiss could help him formulate better songs. Great video though and all those was great growth stunts

      You’re right on point. He’s a battle rapper and we all know battle rappers can’t formulate songs or at least hit songs. Very few of them can be diverse and branch out of that lane. As u said, Swizz helped him formulate songs and when they broke up, that’s when I knew he wasn’t going mainstream.

    The absolute only reason (in my humble opinion) Cassidy ever got signed is major labels throwing deals at ANYONE who could possibly be the next 50 cent, taking street mixtape buzz and turning it into platinum plaques. Very few if any were able to ever cross over from mixtape and battle rap to the charts, but MANY tried. Love the series

    Another Major reason is he became a battle rap artist. That usually stunts you from making mainstream hits. Usually come from battle rap to The industry and may dibble and dabble back in it for fun or sport.. but Cassidy went all in as a battle rapper. It’s hard to come out of that stage.

    I hate when people say "he didn't sell his soul"... you don't have to sell your soul to be successful. He messed up and got into a car accident and then music changed. If he never got locked up around the time his album was coming out, he could've promoted it properly and continued his success. Who wants to stay underground with no money? Nobody...

      @@Gemini050788 Exactly... However... you can see who's successful and who isn't (in a lot of cases, not all). I.E... King Los is underground and writes for others. We as fans can see how active he is. Cass, as much as I enjoyed him growing up, "respectfully" he's not on too many people's radar underground. It cost money to be underground... you have to pay to promote, pay to distribute your music, pay for production (unless he produces his whole album which in most cases spells disaster)... most of the money for underground artists comes from touring which really isn't happening much these days. So his core fans might enjoy him, financially it may not be the best case for him.

      Regardless of Diddy creating them and controlling them, the fact that once they were disbanded we never heard of them again, maybe Chopper here and there with his Money Over Everything mixtapes, but they all were talented enough to be relative in hip-hop.

    You need to do one on what stunted Big Daddy Kane growth after 88 and 89 after having two gold records then gangsta rap started to surface and the dance rap stuff BDK was doing became obsolete and he never charted again after 89.

    Unlike many from the early 2000s mixtape era, cassidy actually had a few hit songs & dropped albums so he's really 1of the few successful mixtape rappers of that time.

      @@realjcoop182 Lupe had top 15 rapper ever potential and based off the first couple albums, looked like he was gonna get there. And then boom the notorious "label" stunt happened. Lupe still a top 25 rapper ever imo, and has influenced many, but he could have reached way higher levels in music period.

    Cass my man for life. I know mainstream moved on but he had his hits and still has the ability to make good music. He kept his soul and love of music. He still makes good music and has bars. I still ruck with him. I love Cass one my goats. Cass, 50, and Wayne my big three period. Idc if they fell off to the mainstream audience.

I wanna say it was like late 2000s-early 2010s when even MTV had a Top rappers in the game list & Joe Budden (YEARS after “Pump It Up”) was voted the best rapper at the time cus of his Mood Muzik mixtapes. Ppl just keep putting Joe’s career in a box like he ain’t shake the streets up years after Def Jam.

    His first mistake was having his first 2 singles be R&B lovey songs. That wasn’t his lane. But like many artists he lacked the versatility to achieve more than he did.

    Cassidy reminds of Kobe Bryant the one that came the closest to Jordan. He came the closest to Canibus. The Dude was a Punch 🥊 Line King 👑 like Canibus. But neither of them could go mainstream. Dude almost, ALMOST, made me not miss Canibus but no one could touch PRIME CANIBUS !!!!!
    but this dude was the of the nicest after Prime Canibus, Emeniem, Chino XL, and Mad Skillz. After them, Cassidy Carried the Torch!!!
    Plus, Dude was the best on Ruff Ryders and that’s saying a lot because Sheek, Styles, Jada, and Dragon Were Punchline Assassins but even then he was better than them. This dude was NYs nicest MC!!!

      @@marcusreed5862 yes I certainly did, sorry that it went over your head. But many people felt Canibus was the greatest Battle Rapper of all time in his prime, just like many people consider MJ the Goat of his profession. Kobe came close to MJ and likewise Cassidy was close to Canibus level.

    The problem with Cas is his albums were trash. He can rap his ass off and had a great producer with a great ear for music so his singles were good but his 2 first albums were garbage.

    Jada Kiss never changed his flow. Cass flow is a conversational flow. It literally always make sense and you can just read the lyrics. That sounds boring but when you add punchlines it's actually complex to. He doesn't stretch or cheat rhymes.. Drake always has the same flow when rap raps.
