Shyne comes across as one of the more cerebral rappers to have ever lived. He had some dope tracks and if he had the focus to go with it, could have been HUGE.
I think a lot of people are overlooking the fact from 2005 through 2010 the music scene gravitated away from New York and migrated to the South. Artists like T.I., Yung Joc, T-Pain were dominating the airwaves and New York lyricism and gritty lyrics began taking a backseat.
To stunt #2, getting better lawyers would have helped Shyne, but ethical considerations would bar Shyne and Diddy from having the same lawyers given conflicting interest
Everything you dislike about hip hop now has always existed. Watch "CB4" or "fear of a black hat" listen to "stakes is high" by de la soul. Listen to "what they do" by the roots (the video is classic).
