- A lot like sports, hip hop has many fine lines that determine which way a player or rapper’s career ends up and is remembered. There’s so many players just like there are rappers were projected to be one of the top MCs in the game at some point, with either their unique start to gaining success, or their talent and personality you could notice the first time you met them. They could have the perfect pedigree, backing and the it that should make them a betted on best of his or her generation. And for whatever reason, they became solid, or “Ok yea he had a run. Today’s feature is the perfect example of this, to where he even looked the part of one day holding the crown as one of the game’s greats. In the early 2000s, the era was perfect for who fabulous was. He was young in the Jerseys, headband and shoe game era, lyrics were most important in one of hip hops golden eras, perfect timing behind Jay-z, and Nas, as New York’s next best thing, backed by DJ clue, and a sound that reminded you of Jay-z, but more punchlines and witty bars relevant to the time. At his pinnacle, Fab was my favorite rapper in the game and I’d back him to anyone questioning who’d become the better rapper of his class. I still think Fabolous is slightly underrated for all the accomplishments he’d had in the rap game, and I’ll explain why I think that in this video. Is FABOLOUS Underrated Or Was He A DISAPPOINTMENT? Where does Fabolous rank in Hip Hop? Did he fall short of being "The Next Jay-z"?
He’s top 50 all time, he was never going to be jay z, he doesn’t have the hunger. He’s more similar to Lloyd banks, jadakiss or Cassidy, not jay z
Reminds me all too much of when Vince Carter was up next and didn't take the rock. Fab didn't want to take it from Jay. He's fab and that's okay too
Fab wasn't wack he just didn't stand out much. Jay Z had that lane on lockdown at the time
Bro you smoking crack on this one you trippin for real fab still relevant till this day my boy scratch this video if you like
Stunted growth of lill scrappy
Fabolous simply had went the Vince Carter route. He knew he was up next but just didn't want it bad enough. He was completely fine in the lane he carved out for himself. That's a W in his eyes.
I agrer 100 percent wit u bro....Shouldve been the biggest
this is one of the realest comments i ever read
Great comparison
Well said.
This is perfect! I totally agree, I usually agree with the stunted growth series but I feel like Fab isn’t fit for this type of video.
Fab underrated, survived multiple era's. Knows how to stay current with times....
He knows how to craft a record. He knows how to bury features.
FACTS!!!
💯 Everything he do is gold. In addition to everything mentioned, lets not forget the soul tapes and summer time shootouts. Bro is a legend in my book.
Did he have a classic album???? He got tapes tho
Exactly
I think Fab did more with the opportunities he had within the era that he was in than most of his contemporaries. His career longevity is a testament of that.
Facts it aint easy to stay afloat in this industry like that especially without extra gimmicks
Damn right, Fab stayed above the line when more than half of the NY scene got put down by big names like Jay Z, Kanye, Nas
Fab represented the kid that was accepted at every lunch table in high school. I just don't think he was into doing the "industry" bullshit for the praise.
Fab went platinum
Made millions
Got mad respect.
He didn't become Kanye or Drake but I feel like he had a hall of fame career
Facts 💯.
He made good music just didn't have a good team around him.
@@Thespeedrap he had dj clue though
@@Watchingvideoslikeu Yes but DJ Clue should had made his own company like the rest of them have.
@@Thespeedrap Dj Clue was signed to rocafella during his heyday
Underrated. He was never gonna be the next Jay-Z because he's the 1st and only Fab. He's well respected and has hits.
Facts 💯
Fab was a good lyricist just didn't have a good team around him like Jay-Z had which is sad because he had better music than Jigga.
Cud of been bigger thou
well put💯
Fab is definitely UNDERRATED
Nah Fab is rated. I think the thing is he was underrated lyrically earlier on due to trying to get hits (which he did) I’ve always knew about his lyrical abilities, I used to listen to his freestyles all the time as a kid and his street dreams mixtape was unbelievable. But to me people didn’t really look at him lyrically until his TINC 2 and his Funeral Fab/Losos Way era that’s when he peaked if you ask me. I still think he’s super dope but isn’t exactly as passionate and really trying to produce music at a high level like he has in the past.
Facts
@@Singapore-Aviation72 I agree
@@Singapore-Aviation72 💯
I'll never see Fab as a disappointment. He always had the Bars. Freestyle, or written. When it was his kind's time at the top, he sold records, and stood at or near the top (everybody can't go). I feel like Fab is more Underrated, than disappointment.
In the late 90s early 2000s even in some of his song on his first album he reminds you of Mase he almost rapped like Mase maybe a Brooklyn version
Facts
I think Fab was in the right place in his career.
Recently revisited the “soul tape” series and mannn fab has always been HIGHLY UNDERRATED!!!
Soul tape was he’s classic
All 3 classics... facts
Word! Almost nothing but bangers! I never knew how good he was before that series.
How y’all feel about the There is no competition tapes? I think 2 is a classic
@@g4lsupreme542 I listened to 3 real heavy gotta give 2 another listen to recollect the songs fr
Fab is still making relevant quality music. Everybody can’t be Jay or Nas bruh. He’s been relevant for what 20 years? Nothing stunted about his growth. I wouldn’t say he’s underrated either because he’s respected by the fans and his peers. He’s right where he should be enjoying a long career.
I couldn't agree with you more my G. Perfect comment💯💪🏽
Cosign! ... Fab still killn it.
He's a cross between Jay and Mase. A track I would've loved to see happen with him would've been a collab with Shyne.
He did a freestyle with Shybe on one of clue tapes
Fabo didn't had to be gritty like 50, he was that laid back cat that you see in the hood that made his lane
Hell 50 deserves to be on here b4 Fab..50 had 3.5 yr run then flamed out, can't live on GROTD forever
@@brandongipson9552 Exactly without being shot and the Ja beef which led to all beefs. He would've made the mark in the game like he did. Once the machine stop backing him it was over
@@354allday But the whole thing about it is...in that 3.5 year run that 50 had He accomplished Way more that What Fab Accomplished In his Whole Career. Fab is Great No doubt...Great rapper But he just didn't take that next step
@@lavellrobinson1648 What exactly did 50 accomplish? I don't wanna hear about stuff outside of music, that seem to be the new way to judge 50. As a rapper 50 was a flash in the pan,a great artist should have a legit 10yr run of making good music.
@@354allday Don't get me wrong...He should've had a longer run but in the 3 years 50 had 2 #1 Platinum albums Numerous hits on the billboards , The success of G-Unit...Clothing ETC and even made a movie . His wave was undeniable...he capitalized big time off of his Popularity at that time . I'm not saying fab is weak ...he's great it's just he did not take that next step and Reach his peak
Fab went from being introduced to the game by freestyling over *The LOX's : Money Power & Respect* beat , to doing an entire mixtape/album with *Jadakiss* years later 🔥 💯 🏁..
That must have been a real "Full Circle Moment" for him🤞
1.popularity
2. Platinum records
3. Respect
4. Longevity
5. Lyrics
6. Hit records
He reached the panicle of rap
This guy buggin he most of ran out of rapper
Same thing in saying. That's a W in my eyes. Most artist isn't in this lane. WTF else do this guy want
Agreed not too many rapper are even well known in the year 2021 that debuted in the early 2000s
What platinum
@@andrewilliams5593 stop the cap street talk & ghetto fabolous both went platinum lmao id imagine he got multiple platinum tracks too
I feel like it would be a reach to even do a stunted growth video on Fab. Not every musical artist is going to be Jay Z or Nas. There’s a reason there’s only one of them and the industry has so many lanes. Fab was huge in the 2000’s and is almost universally respected as one of the best NY spitters of the 21st century. I just think Fab is cool with where he is and being a cultural icon. Where Fab is, millions of artists would die just to have half of his success.
I Agree With Everything U Just Said Except One Thing, Stunted Growth Brought Up A Great Point, Fab Never Had That Defining Moment, In Particular That One Classic Album, My Only Criticism With Fab Was His Albums, He Never Made That Classic Masterpiece That Everyone Remembers, Lil Wayne Made "The Carter", Jay Had "Blueprint" 50 Cent Has "Get Rich Or Die Tryin" I Literally Think That's The Only Catalogue Missing From Fabs Resume In My Opinion
@@MrV-3 you can say the same thing About jadakiss he has never had a classic either and I think that’s why that parallel can and has been drawn between the two
@@t-god2439 I respectfully disagree,Jada defining moments was his "kiss of death album" and his skills being tested more by battling Jay-Z, Beanie Siegal, And 50. Stunted growth isn't saying Fab is a disappointment, all he's basically saying is fab skills were great enough to claim the throne as the king of hip hop but for the three reasons stunted mentioned his growth was shortened to become that.
@@MrV-3 while kiss of death is a damn good album I don’t think it is considered a classic
@@t-god2439 I agree, it's not what u call a classic but I do think it out the cherry on top for his career as one of the best lyricist of all time, Fab to me is one of the best lyricist I've ever heard, I also think his Soul Tapes have made up for his lack luster albums from the past, just my opinion tho
His peers respect him. And he had his run. He is an upper - mid card talent as far as star power goes, and that's ok! I also tink he was quietly blackballed after the Emily B incident. He honestly got the best case scenario. Because this was before canceling was a thing. Best he stays low or finds a way to proactively spin his past. Beause someone will surely bring it back up the moment he starts to sizzle again.
If he was quietly blackballed then he did get canceled in a way
I agree I feel like that Emily Bitch held him back low key he been with that girl a minute
Fab is one of those rappers that don't get mainstream attention, but mad respect from hip hop heads and street dudes. I'm from NY, trust his music is being played, he's in no way a disappointment lol
Facts
Lately he don't have the main stream attention because he's over 20 years in but in his prime he stayed with hits
@@Stonecoldalston exactly
He was extremely underrated. His flow was so smooth and effortless. One of the best to ever do it imo
For the first stunted growth point, I think fab didn’t allow us to personally know him cuz he wanted us to focus only on the music. It wasn’t until the twitter era where people started seeing how funny he was. On Loso’s Way he had a song called Stay & it was about his first child. So that was kinda like the first time we got to know about him being a dad
Fab is the Tracy McGrady of Rap
Triangle Offense (Fab, Stack bundles Joe Budden, Paul Cain, Clue) was a heavily overlooked and slepton.
Fab's one of the nycest overall artists to come out of NYC he has memorable trax for everybody.. and his mic was tested he had a back n forth w/ Ali Vegas back in '01
Underrated he is a timeless artist
How can fab be on stunted growth ? He’s still relevant to the culture
Correct I think the guy who makes the videos is running out of content
@Cwavy_619 lol rs I'm not even 1 of them dudes that just put negative stuff on ppl videos I respect his stuff I always look forward to them but cmon fab lol I'm not even a fab fan but cmon lol
Yea fab should not be on stunted growth. So game next huh?
@@tayreed3961 agree about fab now game I can actually see
He must of didn't catch the Million Worth Of Game interview about his consistency
Underrated no way a disappointment
Facts
Facts if anything Def Jam disappointed but he kept his career alive with his soul tape and summer shootout series they been pushing Loso’s Way 2 back for about 10 years straight
The Soul Tape series being mixtapes instead of official albums is what I think hurt him Loso's Way was cool but far from a all time classic
Been saying this spot on…. Hard to be one of the best when ya best bodies of works are mixtapes
That's his problem. He has no classics
Shit, which one?
@@producedbykhireyakeem4340 Street Dreams , ghetto fabolous are classics
I never cared for him because most of his hits was soft rnb music. It would be 10 years before he made the soul tapes and then he became one of my all time favorites!
Yo the soul tapes are insane.
He's highly Underrated, & yeah his Pen game is top tier.
He dropped “Throw it in the Bag” during the 08 Recession, bad timing.
And it really wasn’t his strongest track, either.
@@onlyone23km fr cuz the album had bangers

He dropped that song in 2009 dude. Know ur dates.
Fab is definitely underrated but never a disappointment.. he's been dropping music since my senior year in high-school and can still drop tapes now with all these weirdos in the game and still be relevant
fab is not underrated ......if you live in new york fab always get his flowers.. he's a legend

Can you imagine dropping your first album on 9/11 and it does those numbers is crazy. Salute to the young OG.
Fab’s stunted growth is very familiar to Jeezy’s discography and scenario. Except Jeezy had a moment with 101.
If I had it my way, those 2 would be more famous than Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez.
Fabolous is one of the GREATEST To EVER Do it. Should Definitely be in everybody’s Top 10. Boy NEVER Misses. 🔥💯
I love your channel...but you're wrong about Fab. He has his own lane. His features are timeless. He's still one of the greatest rappers best writers. Fabs a legend. He definitely lasted long enough. Why didn't they challenge him.
This one right here is a reach..You don't stay relevant for over 20s and somehow be a disappointment.
Fabo brought the throwback game into hip hop which definitely changed the clothing game for a hot min
Man is a legend he's not in my top five but he's definitely my 6 man Off the Bench
The Vince Carter of Hip-Hop
"Real Talk" is a classic album to me and definitely my favorite one.
Baby was my shit on there
Great album definitely
Fo real
YES. I'm glad we got a Fab video, never even thought of that. Fabolous is personally in my top 10 and he's slept on bigtime. Ghetto Fabolous is a classic and don't forget he's got some of the best mixtapes ever.
Fab is amazing on a technical level but I think the thing that’s robbed him of legendary status is his tendency to hop on trends, when he didn’t need to.
Uhhh what trends did fab hop on?!!! He always did his own thing
@@Youngdouda This is just not true. LMAO. Fab's nice but he's far from an innovator.
In New York he was definitely a success
Can we get an Uncle Murda stunted growth story? I’m a fan of his
WHOA! *his voice*
I agree. Uncle Murda got bars.
Fab is a legend. A phenomenal lyricist. Just listen to his last ft. On so Brooklyn with Cass he went beast mode on it.
Fab still getting rap money, real rap money. How is he a stunted growth? Longevity over being a one hit wonder. He still dropping mixtapes, doing features and touring the globe
Gotta do a "Big K.R.I.T." stunned growth. Krit one of my favorite Rappers. I miss that 07' -11' Era of rap. Wiz, Wale, Spitta, Krit, Smoke Dza, NIP, Mickey Factz, Ab Soul, Freddie Gibbs, & so on..
Fab my favorite rapper Hands Down. Nobody cant tell me otherwise that this man is always consistent with the Barz, flow, and punchlines. I still don't see how he's underrated. One of the most if the most consistent artist out right now💯🗽💪🏽
💯
He was stunted but still manage to have a great career
Fab has always been underrated, honestly one of the best lyrical rappers in the game. Stay hitting with fire bars and punches
Too bad it never equated to a classic album IMO.
He is still a top 20 talent of all time. He did what he was supposed to. He never sold all of his soul for more. Jay-z and 50 went up the political/commercial ladder farther than he wanted. He not a sellout.
Fab 10 all-time one of my top 5 favorites ever
I’ve been waiting for this! Loso is one of my favorite rappers
Fabulous actually isn't stunned....I mean he pretty much had success for like a long time he basically achieve more than alot of stunned rappers
For sure underrated till this day soul tape trilogy one of the best of all time
This was really good bro. I have thought about this before but you did the work. NEVER thought that Fab coulda went the Drake route, but you’re soooo right!!!
It’s crazy…Jada the reason I started rapping but fab was my 1sf fav rapper. Ironic how good of friends they are. Luv the vids keep up the great work brody!!💯
Summertime Shootout 1 2 3
Soul Tapes 1 2 3
what???? stunted growth???? Fabolous????? nah you buggin out
Super buggin.
Big facts. I’m convinced he jus doing this for content to
Make RUclips $
Love your videos. Keep it up. As an 80s baby. It's very nostalgic
Thank you!
Yooo love the vid! I was a huge fab fan and i think u hit this on the head! summed it up well
Fabolous is like one of those kids you'll see in a arcade destroying any video game they play. But when you try and get them in a game tournament they like nah I'm good just doing me.
But you know they'll go toe to toe with anyone, but they cool just playing and forming their own teams.
Definitely underrated, I see people in comments keep bringing up the Soul Tape but Friday Night Freestyle was a gem as well
Loving the content. Keep up the good work. Your channel is a breath of fresh air
Always felt he could kill a feature or freestyle but his albums never had direction
Facts this is coming from a fab fan
And it sucks to say that about a guy that made some of greatest mixtapes like Soul Tape series There’s no competition series Fab is still a legend but definitely lacks that classic rememberable album
Facts and FACTS! Also a big fab fan
His mixtapes are better than his albums
Eh Fabs first album is pretty straight, I’m not crazy about Street Dreams like that but Real Talk is good. His comeback album I don’t remember the name is pretty forgettable, Losos Way is by far his best album but it sounds super dated and doesn’t stand the test of time. It sounds too 2009ish to me.
Real Talk and Loso's Way are my favorites in my book
Amen people sleep on real talk
Dope video! I had said for years that he was cool with the role of “Prince of NY” and never came aggressive enough to be “King of NY”. Regardless I’m a fan of Fab and appreciate your commentary.
Didn't expect fab to be on here, but in a way I understand...haven't watched yet
I NEVER seen Fabulous as being the next inline, if anybody it was Cam'Ron. Fab issue was he was a Brooklyn dude with Harlem swag 🤷🏿♂️. He never grew into his own.
Yeah Cam should have been much bigger
Dammm u rite .... brevoit pjs with a harlem look and style.... maybe if he battled mase on wax he coulda taken mase spot. I can see fab rapping over why u over here looking at me track on mase album easily
Finally Some Cam Fans. 💯 Cam Beef With Jay-Z Might've Hurt His Growth A Bit. But Cam Over Fab As The Next King Of New York For Sure. 🙏🏿
Loso’s Way was 🔥 especially the Single Imma do it…!
Great upload
Bro u got the best channel so underrated
He definitely filled Jay Z shoes talent wise which is really no big deal.
Underrated but his soul tape & there is no competition series was better than his album coming from a fab fan 💯
Funnily enough when Fabolous dropped his first album Ghetto Fabolous people were saying he sounded like Ma$e especially on the song Ma' Be Easy. That's how the whole beef with Ma$e started when Ma$e took a shot at him for using his style. By the time Fabolous dropped his second album Street Dreams he had his own style and when Lloyd Bank$ blew up with G-Unit people thought he sounded like and took Fabolous style
WAY UNDERRATED. WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY TOP 5
The title is blasphemy
My favorite album of his is the young OG project, that being said, I think his mixtapes are generally better than his albums.
Facts! 💯
I just discovered your channel! Your insight and perspective is accurate and informative! As an artist, This definitely helps avoid pitfalls and mistakes ✊🏾Amazing Videos Bro!!🔥🔥
Grt wrk brother.... keep it up
Why is fabulous on here
He is not a disappointment
He's not disappointing more like didn't build and or get the right team around him.
I think the industry transition to Southern hip hop in the mid-2000s definitely had an effect on Fab and a lot of other super lyrical NY artists at the time (i.e. Papoose, Joe Budden, Juelz, etc.)… after Fiddy, labels just stopped pouring that many resources into NY hip hop.. he was just a victim of the times
🤝
Great Content as usual, Fab is one of my favorites and one of the best ever. Did he reach his max potential like a Jay or 50? No.... but not sure he also deserved a stunted growth video either
I have to agreebwith you. Your points were valid and remember he had that Mase comparison for a while.
Fab is underrated because he doesn’t toot his own horn enough.... Wayne yelled he was the best rapper alive till people started believing him.... Fab might’ve played it too cool for his own good
Your reaching on this one bro fab is still relevant and dat Freddy vs Jason joint was a classic summer time shootouts was flame 🔥 too👎🏿I disagree on this one
You know what I'm not even going to finish the video lol this was one was reaching for sure
Most rappers would love to have the career like Fabolous because this man can spit with the best of them and he has hits that still play on the radio right now so he was not a disappointment in hip hop at and he can tour for the rest of his life with his music. And on a side note I have a you tube channel type in Russell Mills May 22, 2017 to find me.
Only dude in the game that rocked a paper towel around his head in a video and still swagged tf out. Dripmaster Fab🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Why is acting like Fabolous fell off or isn’t relevant when he drops something
I Agree, Everybody that doesn't live up to Biggie Jay-z 2-Pac Lil Wayne level of fame is not a "Stunted Growth" Artist. Just my opinion in my eyes.
We need one on Gorilla Zoe. What the hell happened to that guy.
His debut was the only album I bought ghetto fabulous. Classic in my eyes 🔥🔥
Fab my guy💪🏾
This a stretch Brodie and you usually hit Everytime. You made a good case as far as how he could be underrated but def not stunted. Fab still my favorite rapper so I could be biased but I don't think so my boi.
SN: I'm from Philly and I think Beans would be good for this exact title. He stunted himself and never reached his potential. Please do a vid on Beans!
Fab is a legend he doesn't belong here 😂..... Brooklyn forever 🖤🗽
All his Mixtapez are str8 🔥🔥🔥💪🏽 fab top 3 alive right now!
I love your videos ❤️❤️❤️
Albums was alright.. Mixtapes or his soultapes were fire.. The Young O.G project.. Fab is most definitely underrated
Fab and Mase was beefing for a minute, I'm glad Fab didn't go down that route. He kinda took the LL lane. He would make the radio singles for the ladies then come back with records for the streets. Fab knew his lane and maximized it. He's been relevant for 20 years. He's had a solid career
Funny both made a song called breathe but Fab version worked Mase just was a goofy exercise religious track.
You made some valid points spoken like a Tru fan that lay back persona definitely mess fab up i think his early success kinda made him takes things for granted no disrespect fab and the street family i was locked up with 2 of fab mens Free gutta n Tyke 💯🙏
He's ghostwritten so many hits that probably could care less...f@ck the fame he got his pockets all the way right...
