Well, she was strong because of her faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, and her having a priest come to her house every morning for mass, etc.!!!! And her also attending a Catholic college I think it was they said… I think she was an incredible woman!!! Hats off to Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy!!!!
This woman overcame so many tragedies in her life. Not just with her children's deaths and struggles but her husband cheated on her. To live to be 104, was such an achievement. She had her memory until the end. May she R.I.E.H.P.
Dallas Brubaker Unfortunately that isn’t the case. She suffered a stroke ten years before her death that left her incapacitated and nearly comatose. She was beginning to fail even in her late 70’s. About a year after Robert’s death she remarked that “It was a shame that Bobby left Ethel with all those children to raise.” She was also never told about her grandson David’s overdose in 1984 as she was becoming more frail and forgetful. Her last years really were not kind to her.
@Rose dowling I think she loved her kids but she had too many mental and emotional issues. She wanted to get out of her marriage but her father told her that wasn't something Catholics did so she spent most of her years on various drugs to help her deal with it.

@Simpsonfanguy : One interesting fact about Jean Kennedy you might like to know. She actually knew her brother Robert's wife Ethel before they were married in 1950. Jean and Ethel were close friends and went to school together. Jean was the one who first introduced Ethel to her brother Robert in 1946. One ironic twist of fate. When Jean Kennedy died in 2020 she died on June 17th of that year. That day would have been the 70th wedding anniversary of Robert and Ethel Kennedy had Robert not died years earlier in 1968. They married on June 17, 1950. His widow Ethel is still alive in 2024 at the age of 96.
Finally the pain/trauma she suffered all those years is finally over. Rest her soul. 🙏🙏 What a strong lady was still able to live over a century after many family tragedies.
She never attended her daughter Kathleen‘s funeral because Kathleen had seen a divorced man. There were no pictures of Kathleen on the piano only her sons that have passed and her husband. I think that’s rather sad. Her other daughter was in her institution after her lobotomy and was basically a vegetable.
A tough, resilient matriarch, who outlived children and grandchildren, enabled the survivors and with them made it through the very hard ‘rainy days/years’ to 104! Bravo! well deserved Rest in Peace 💕
She did have her faults and never visited her daughter Rosemary even once during the first 20 years she was institutionalized. When Rose finally did decide to visit, Rosemary was furious at seeing her mother and "belted" her. 😀
She stood by her husband. Yet sadly her opions were silence by her husband and due to the time era. I just could imagine in today's times how much more Rose could have contributed to younger female generations.
Not to mention, how she put up with his womanizing. Anyone else would have divorced him. Of course, the Roman Catholic Church would have ostracized her(and possibly excommunicated her) if this had happened.
@@benschlechter Rose wouldn't have been excommunicated from the church. Being the daughter of Honey Fitz, it wouldn't have happened.
