    Joe Kennedy would never visit his daughter again after that lobotomy. Reading her letters to him how she missed him when she was at camp is heartbreaking. Joe was IMO an overrated father for the simple fact of abandoning his daughter for the remaining period of his life.

    • @angelamartin2811

      @@westcoastgirl The reason why rosemary was developmentally delayed was because when rose was in labor the dr was late so the nurse pushed Rosemarys head back up through the birth canal and told rose to squeeze her legs together until the dr arrived she laid like that for 2 hours so rosemary was deprived of oxygen. The father is a narcissist and only cared about power and money and what his family looked like to the public! I look at rosemary before the lobotomy and you see a beautiful happy woman her eyes sparkled! He didn’t even confide in his wife about the lobotomy but were talking about a narcissistic person that even ran around on his wife. Poor rosemary deprived of love from her family I believe it was 20 years before rose went and seen her daughter. Sad 😞

    They glossed over the part about the forced lobotomy which made Rosemary that way. She had a great sister but terrible father. Rosemary’s story breaks my heart and so many people don’t know about her and what really happened. She was living a fairly normal life before that.

  • @rbsmith3365

    Eunice was a social worker. And Joseph Kennedy was so embarrassed of Rosemary until 1941, he sent her for unapproved treatment. Her brain was damaged and ruined. He sent her very far away to a special catholic home in Wisconsin. Sad. Until December 1961, Joseph had massive stroke and paralyzed. Lesson learned.

    • @jckhammer
      @jckhammer 3 года назад +11

      In reality Joseph could be considered and embarrassment to fatherhood and as time marches on he will be remembered more and more for his abandonment of his first daughter than anything else he has accomplished. Well deserving of that as well

      @@jckhammer Agree. It makes me think that he’s so rich and he wants what’s best for his kids. He seems like picky, pushy, and hateful father with a bad ego including brought his mistress, Gloria Swanson to his home. And he wanted his older son to be president of the United States too. THAT IS HIS’ DREAM NOT THEIRS. Later kids got in bad luck. And in late 1961 Joseph got massive stroke and it kept him quiet. Sad.

      @jckhammer 3 года назад +5

      @@rbsmith3365 good point. I forgot about his affairs. Also good point about wanting Joe jr to be president and it more about him then his sons. Reading various articles it seems Joe jr wanted more of a military or naval aircraft career over politics. In the end joe Sr was silenced and after that the real secret of Rosemary started to surface and the truth was now out

    • @rbsmith3365
      @rbsmith3365 3 года назад +2

      @@jckhammer That’s true. In 1920’s Joseph was running Hollywood Studio. I think it was RKO and he brought his mistress Gloria Swanson home without Rose protest. ( Rose father is catholic and says that you cannot divorce and women have no rights ). And kids have seen and met Gloria at Hyannis port home. It’s immoral. If Rose needs sex. She asks. And about Rosemary’s lobotomy practice came from Portugal which isn’t approved in U.S. It damaged her more. She was placed in a special home in Wisconsin which it still exists today. ( St Colette’s) . From 1941 until around 1962 Rose found her there and what’s next? Rosemary remembered her and she got angrier and attacked at Rose. True, maybe she thinks that mother didn’t cared about it? No. She didn’t know where she went and Rose didn’t forgive Joseph for ruining and hiding her.
      And, after Joseph’s stroke and, I think that Rose went thru the payment lender book and found something there on yearly payment to St Colette’s School where Rosemary was hidden there.

      I don’t understand what’s there to be embarrassed over having a special needs child. And Rosemary was the prettiest out of the sisters. When she was spotted out in pubic the press was so focused on her because she was so beautiful she stood out the most. She made her sister look so average when she would stand next to them. So sad how the life she had to endure all because of her disability.

    What a beautiful loving caring sister that made a difference! The father Joe caused a lot of pain in the family he wanted and demanded perfection while running around on his wife! The reason rosemary had developmental issues is because when rose was giving birth the nurse pushed rosemarys head back up through the birth canal and told rose to squeeze her legs together until the dr arrived well she laid like that for 2 hours deprived of oxygen. Rosemary was an embarrassment to Joe what a narcissistic parent! Kids with disabilities have a sweet innocents about them in looking at Rosemarys pictures you can see the beauty and light in her eyes. That all changed when the father without discussing it with his wife got rosemary a lobotomy procedure which took the light out of her eyes he put her in a institution to be forgotten depriving the family of where she was! I know things were different back than but Joe was a terrible heartless father!
