    That looping feature where you loop a very small part of a sample in order to get it to play out through the entire duration of the bars you have set is awesome!
    I knew something like this was possible, but never had any clue on how to do it. You know how many times I've sat down at my MPC X and have wasted hours
    and hours of time trying to get a sample that I've chopped up to fit with my project all for me to get frustrated and delete the entire project? I don't even want to
    admit how often that's happened! We're officially off to the races! Thanks a ton!

Not hating but I'm beyond the basics and trying to find more videos like this one is difficult. I randomly found your channel from a random comment on one of earlier said videos. Really glad I found you, this video alone showed me how to properly utilize the "from bpm" feature. Previously I only thought that was to double check the bpm of the sample, and then I would timestretch the sample to suit. This method and others in the video will really help me get the timing down on my samples. Thank you! Def going to go thru your videos and see what else I can learn

    I've been warping my samples and I don't like the way the sound quality is reduced. Also, it's not always straight forward; sometimes you have to warp and timestretch, and usually you have to find the right bpm by ear which is time consuming and an enemy to creativity. This was very helpful 🙏

    Really useful lesson for me this, some really good little pieces of information I needed. Thank you! You’ve earned a subscriber.
    Something that is always a pain for me is - say I sample one piece of music as one layer, then grab a sample from a totally other piece of music, what is the best way to match the songs up in terms of key? Matching them up rhythmically is one thing (as you’ve demonstrated here) but what about when you also have key to contend with? Do you have any videos on this?

    • @TUBEDIGGA
      @TUBEDIGGA  6 месяцев назад

      I don’t have any specific videos on that particular subject. There’s many ways to do this including workarounds and alternatives to reliance on pitch shifting etc. You’d have to book some lesson time with me, I don’t have time to explain all the ways here as it’s also very dependent on the material in question. My email contact details are in the video description.

    I'm trying to get only 1 or two beats to play in a bar to play for a sequence. So the sequence only has 1 or two beats. Do you have a video explaining how to do this?
    It's to do breaks etc.

    • @TUBEDIGGA

      Do you.mean set the sequence length to only 1 or 2 beats long rather than one bar or more? If so you can set the LENGTH in beats in the TRACK area on the main page. It will play for an amount of beats separately from the main sequence length.

    Tubedigga, I got to this video from your Pioneer DJ DJS-1000 video.
    Q1; Is the Pioneer like using Ableton Live but in hardware? I'm looking for that function in a hardware sampler where I can change tempo and have audio loops follow.
    Q2 Is the MPC your sampler of choice for live triggered via an SPD-SX, for example or would the Pioneer DJ DJS-1000 Standalone DJ Sampler be the better choice.

    • @TUBEDIGGA
      @TUBEDIGGA  3 года назад +1

      The DJS1000, the MPC, Maschine Plus and Akai Force all have the ability to play synchronised loops that somewhat stay in time. I say somewhat, because with all of them, the algorithm used to stretch the audio introduces artefacts which I personally consider to sound unprofessional. I prefer to chop and re-sequence to achieve this. But if you want a cheap and quick fix machine that does that kind of thing, all of the aforementioned machines do it in a similar way. Therefore I would choose the machine that is best overall, not just at that. For me it would be either MPC or Maschine Plus. The DJS1000 is a good unit but too limited in other areas for me. My best advice is try all of them if you can, keep the one you click with and return the ones you don't get on with in general. The MPC would be best for live triggering IMO.

    Is the looping part of the workflow rendered somewhat obsolete by the tail functionality added in 2.10?

    • @TUBEDIGGA
      @TUBEDIGGA  2 года назад

      No, they are two completely different things. The tail feature is a very simple way to add a short loop at the end of a sample to give it a smooth fade, whereas looping in this video is proper sample looping - pad 16 in the sample editor allows you to loop a sample to preview it so you know it loops correctly. If you start and end points are off then the MPC wont be able to calculate the BPM properly. it needs a specific amount of beats, even if it isn't a full bar or amount of bars.

Just by hearing/feeling or are there other tricks to chop it exactly to one bar? Newcomers need to be aware that things are 1000 times easier, cheaper and more convenient these days. Theres a number of things you can try because the vocal sample may be drifting over time. You can edit the vocal sample in a DAW to make sure it's perfectly timed to 60BPM using Ableton etc to warp it cleanly. Or you can try and use the pad warp feature in MPC standalone to shift it so it syncs better. Or you can try and chop the vocal up into slices if it isn't too long, and record/trigger each slice on the grid so you have more control over each phrase. Failing that, email me and book a lesson. Why not just use time stretch?.??

      Because it sounds unnatural, so IMO it should be used sparingly if at all.

    The time stretching on the MPC blows!! Most of the time it detects the BPMs incorrectly. What do you do when you know the bpm of your sample but the MPC wont accept the correct BPM? For instance I have a two bar drum loop that I can tempo tap to recognize its around 110 bpm but the MPC insists that the BPM is 125. I want to use the time stretch to lower the bpm without altering the pitch so I tell the MPC that the bpm is in fact 110 but the results don't make any sense. Either Im an idiot or this is the most unintuitive mamajama ever. Oh shnap am I going to have to read the manual?!?

      If the loop is incorrectly chopped (not an exact amount of bars), or the timing drifts significantly (like samples from old records/songs) then the MPC will struggle to correctly calculate the BPM. Your sample has to be a perfect loop in other words.

      @@TUBEDIGGA Thanx TD. Yeah you were right. The loop wasn't chopped as cleanly as I thought. I was able to get it working. I ended up using the Process button to tell the MPC what the current BPM of the loop was and what I wanted it to be changed to.

      i tell you this. The mpc live timestretch is 100X better than the mpc 2500 and sp 303 piece of shit timestretch (you can even replicate the 303 and s950 timestretch on the live if thats your thing though 🤷🏼‍♂️)

      They have updated the firmware a couple of times since this video was uploaded. The only major thing that is different related to this video is the from bpm feature has been moved to a sub page that slides over by pressing the small white arrow on the right hand side of the screen in sample edit mode.
