Gods, it's eerie how beautiful her voice is... U cn see her weeping and hanging laundry in the highlands of Scotland, aching for her lost love.. It's poignant. I love this song.

This song is truly moving and so beautifully sung by June. This is the first time I've seen this since it was first aired - thank you to the lovely person who posted this. Thrilled that it is on RUclips. :-)

Lovely! Learned this first from Sheila Stewart, another of the great singers of the traveling peopleback in the 80s. Though June does it very differently, she certainly does it justice... Love her singing...

Enya might think she's all that but NO ONE sings a dirge like June Tabor. I have never heard this before but I cannot believe how wonderful it is on the first hearing. Amazing. Sheer brilliance.

But I mean to climb up some higher, higher tree
And harry a white snowflake's nest,
And down shall I fall, ay, without any fear
To the arms that love me best.

Here are the lyrics from her "Against the Stream" album, which was named based on the word of this song!
False, false have you been to me, my love,
Oh, when did you change your mind?
Ah, but since you've laid your love on another fair maid
I'm afraid that you're no more mine.
I was climbing to a tree that was too high for me,
Asking for fruit where there weren't any grew.
I've been lifting warm water out beneath cold clay
And against the stream I was rowing.

hi there i am trying to find a song of this album about the turn pike road, - something about a devil a pitchfork and potatoes ?? do you kow the name of the track ?? please please please x

    • @johnbond7944
      @johnbond7944 6 лет назад +3

The track is called Apples and Potatoes
Yonder comes the devil with his pitchfork and shovel,
He was digging up potatoes on the turnkipe road.
But the road it was so hard, he couldn't get 'em up,
So away ran the devil with his tail c***ed up
Who's that a-climbing up my old apple tree?
Bridget, my darling, I'm longing to see.
I'm not stealing apples, so I can explain:
The wind bloweth high and knocked 'em down
So I'm putting 'em back again!
