Never did see Starship but have seen June a couple of times. What a beautiful, rich voice she has. And this proves that she can sing songs from almost any genre.
@Craig Roberts I am an Englishman and I agree with this gentleman. Ta-lee-ho! And of course Grace Slick's voice was one of the most dynamic of all time. A Singer like that, only passes the sun every two centuries, my god. And the body, eyes and hair on that woman! Woof! Plus, you can't beat Jorma's sweet jangly intro on the Airplane recordings.
Being an OLD Grace Slick J/A fan and having chased the rabbit... gotta say without taking anything away from Grace... this is a tripped out version not made for pop radio... belike to give me some flashbacks... I know of June Tabor from the world of Celtic music, and was very pleasantly surprised to hear this coming from her mouth!
June Tabor and Oysterband -- hard to beat musically. Yes, we know Grace Slick's will always be the definitive version but this is decades later and it shows how potent that song still is in the hands of true professionals. It takes on a whole new ambiance and maintains the creepiness of the fairytale. But then, Tabor has always been a master of song styles and covers.
sound like a friggin twit but junes presence within her music is deeply spiritual to me ... (time for another glass of turps) ... no seriously it has deep beauty and spirituallity and a mesmeric quality ...
I remember Grace and JA doing this when I was kid back in the 60's. It's still, in my mind, one of the most memorable and poignant songs ever written. I know the song belongs to, and made Grace famous, but nothing is immutable. Please forgive my sacrilege, but I do believe that Junes version here is actually better than the original. I shall now hang my head in shame, and go to sit sit on the naughty step for ... ever probably.
Grace Slick and Airplane is not the original. You need to hear the Grace Slick & the Great Society version that precedes the Airplane. It's here on YT - all 6 minutes of it!
Ian Ashleigh Quite possibly, though Maddy Prior has always been more to my taste, and of course, nobody will ever be able to touch The Lady. Ms Tabor's Lily Marlene is startlingly good, however.
June T is utterly frightening. She has that same quality as Joni Mitchell, a sort of musical Midas touch. Once she covers a song, it seems like the final word. I wasn't aware she had recorded White Rabbit and was looking for Grace Slick's. I guess there's no point in looking further after hearing this.
It is a brilliant rendition, but don’t buy the cd on the strength of this this performance. The cd version is not live, and not a patch on this version.
I have "AQABA" and "Anthology". Just ordered Angel Tiger on a whim. Have read Quercus (band name) and the albums "Rennaisance", "Ashore" and "Fairport" are very good. Am considering getting Freedom and Rain (with Oyster Band) aswell (it's on a local craigslist sorta thing).
No disrespect intended -- but what makes this cover brilliant is Oysterband's backing. June's a fine artist in her own right, but Grace's vocal dynamics outshone hers by far. This is a Slick song - full stop,
@@martingillette7613 I didn't record the song. It's not my butt to be kissed. But similarly, you put your comment out there. I'm just letting you know it's worthless. Maybe come up with something of value to say before you hit enter.
Michael Jaramillo is actually correct. I should have wrote something of substance. Lord knows I've said that to others. This is the music I grew up with and it is heard to hear versions that are not powerful and don't give the feel of the original. I simply listened to the "Woodstock" version one day and now all kinds of versions are showing up. You know how that happens. I don't mind bands trying this song out and I've given positive reviews to a few of them. They have just enough of the original and just enough personal touch. White Rabbit should sound psychedelic and doesn't work as something else. For example I've heard acoustic versions that are really bad. It should end very powerful. The vocals are nice and I'm sure this band could do a good job with this song.
@@martingillette7613 It was a live performance at a festival of a pub band with a guest singer. They were just having fun. I think reviews in comment sections are generally unnecessary, not just yours. I could've sworn I turned comments off but RUclips will RUclips. The fact of the matter is, the song is available to hear if you like it. There's plenty more songs out there if you don't. If you loved this cover and gave it a rave review, the comment would have been just as useless, honestly. Though, normally I don't bother to respond. Yours was just to snarky to not get a jolly out of responding to.
Awful. Between them they have a habit of murdering covers - destroyed "All Tomorrow's Parties" at Shrewsbury. AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH
June Tabor is one of the most gifted singers ever known and not acknowledged enough. Her interpretive range is remarkable.
The only cover version that can hold a candle to the original.
I like Emiliana, but her version was merely okay, IMO.
the original meaning the Great Society version? I like this version /E-beryhhAzg
Check out elephant revivals version
I thought it was a bit lame. Lacks the feeling of absolute desperation in the original.
spot on
Long time fan of hers. One of the most amazing voices that I have ever heard!
Never did see Starship but have seen June a couple of times. What a beautiful, rich voice she has. And this proves that she can sing songs from almost any genre.
Sublime!! June breathes life and heart and soul into everything she sings. Really enjoy her taking on non folk type songs.
Amazing, the first time i'v'e heard this lady , love it love her.
Great cover of this acid-rock classic! It's kickass, love it!
I adore June Tabor.

One of the bravest singers.Full of force and and passion.

Brilliant version...love it...keeping it primal!!! *
beautiful rarity this is
June sounding magical. love it.
Oh this is amazing , thank you sooooooooooooo much for sharing x
awsome version thank you
First time I heard this on the radio it blew my mind. I thought I knew the song backwards already...
Love this woman!
hairs on my arms standing up! love this woman!
I TOTALLY agree with this assessment. She also has a stunning, beautiful alto.
Love Grace Slick's Version but this is great too. Goes to show that great voices and songs go together whoever wrote the song.
On any other song June would "win", but this is Grace's - and Grace's time. Wonderful though.
sound like a friggin twit but junes presence within her music is deeply spiritual to me ... (time for another glass of turps) ... no seriously it has deep beauty and spirituallity and a mesmeric quality ...
June Tabor is just the ultimate cover artist, doesn't matter if the song is 30 or 300 years old she is just brilliant (oggie man)
love that "folky" version
Glad I listened and subscribed! Good work.
And liked also!
it takes someone with real talent to handle this and june tabor does
Thanks and posting.........

Fantastic.
Luv and Peace.
great climax....one of the 1960``s anthems..moody...almost as good as the original.
Wow.
Wonderful!
Best version, outside of Ms Slick’s?
I love Grace, and June, but have you heard the Mayssa Haraa version recorded for American Hustle? Fabulous!
Great Stuff!
@kalydrian have you not heard gillian welch? This one is a contender for sure. I love Junes voice.
amazing................
Best version of all times in the all fucking world !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Simplemente Deslumbrante!!!
It improves as it goes along. At first I thought it wasn't going to work.
If you know June Tabor's work, you would know it was always going to work :)
Ian Ashleigh Quite possibly, though Maddy Prior has always been more to my taste, and of course, nobody will ever be able to touch The Lady. Ms Tabor's Lily Marlene is startlingly good, however.
I was so deperate to find something totally different, uncommercial, relaxing, and spiritual. I will stop here for a while :-)
State of Grace

Brilliant
To all those who don't like it - I love it -ROCK/folk yes..But we all have our opinions
I do like this version much better
Nice Speed ,Good Work!
Good one !
Well...at least she added the end the song needed
It hurts my brain buddy!
bear in mind folks you aint gonna hear Grace do this or any other song! besides June makes any song she does hers...
Wow, I'm a fan of June, but I never knew she covered this song. This kicks butt!
Good, very good... she is just not Gracie, when Grace was truly Grace!
@hottunasandwich I totally agree. And no, you don't sound like a twit.

Why does this sound country?
Nut Suphanat because it comes from A country...
The Guitar, echoes from the past
Grace Slick always creeped me the f*ck out! I rather like June Tabor's version better!
"Kicks butt". Sorry, but it's much better than that.
Nice cover but doesn't come close to Grace's version.
Sometimes bands should just leave a great song alone and not cover it. This is one of those times.
Sometimes, commenters should just stay quiet and move on. This is one of those times.
