  • The door lock on my 2011 Nissan Sentra started making a loud noise any time I unlocked the car. This video shows you how to disassemble the interior door panel to remove the door lock.

Thanks for the upload, I had the same lock go out on my 2011 Sentra. Replaced the lock last night, took about 20 minutes.

I just did this repair. The part cost $110 + shipping fron partsgeek.com. The process was not that difficult. Just be sure to disconnect the car's battery before starting to prevent accidentally triggering any air bags. One thing that did happen unexpectedly is the plastic sleeve on the cable coming from the outside door handle broke when I tried to remove it from the lock actuator. The new actuator came with its own cable so I had to do the extra step of disassembling the outside door handle so I could remove the old cable and attach the new cable to it. All in all the whole job took less than an hour and if I had to do it again it would probably take about half the time. Thanks for posting this detailed video as it was very helpful in taking everything apart without marring or damaging any parts.

@2:10 Thank you so much for showing how to remove that small panel by the window. I also need to remove (on both sides), since I plan to replace the mirrors and a broken window glass on Front DS of our 2009 Nissan Sentra. Our car has a key lock only on the front DS. I think it would be so much better to have the same Key Lock on the Front PS, but I don't know if a new lock can be set for the same key we have. I would appreciate any opinion on this matter.

One step easier to remove the door handle by loosening the tire on side and taking out tumbler and the mechanism by loosening toro bolt through hole on inside of door. Then door opening cable can be replaced. The cable does wear down over time.

loosening the bolt on side to remove tumbler and handle. remove the bolt through hole inside door. then remove handle assembly after with door handle cable.

How can you tell which door the lock is starting to go out on? My car just started making the same noise when it starts to lock

How do you know which side to repair? I'm looking up the parts for my 2010 nissan sentra and there's actuators for all four doors! Help!

Well why are you replacing them? I'm guessing one of them is no longer working?
My right front door was making noise, that's how I knew to replace it.

When in doubt you can remove the battery to ensure the circuit is open and then take your meter and ohm out each actuator motor to look for a direct short to ground. Compare resistance of motor windings to spec resistance and you can determine if the motor is fried.

Can anyone tell me if the Nissan Versa set up is similar?

how did you get the door panel to clip back in so nicely? MIne does not want to lock in and it keeps falling off. Ive replaced all the clips but half of them wont snap! The big titan doors have a lot more clips...

Is there a certain part of the door that isn't clipping? Maybe something is in the way of the panel?

Not to diminish the hard work here, but that's exactly why I think you should get a door from a junk yard with same color sentra than going through all this headache.

that is not a door lock, that is a door actuator.

I don't think you should be doing videos the first time you ever actually work on a car because you did not do this job correctly. A customer of mine showed me your video because they thought it was a good way to learn but anybody who watches this please know that there's an easier way in a smarter way and this guy is a rookie making rookie mistakes. He's figuring it out as he goes and trying to sound like he knows what he's talking about. Don't waste your time with backyard mechanics like this. There are automotive technician to post ads on here that will help you and actually be helpful.

@Michael Dunsworth Would you care to share what this easier method is, and what I didn't do correctly? Or are you just going to berate me and claim that I don't know what I am doing simply because I am not a "car mechanic"?
I took the time to record and upload so that anyone who either can't afford to pay some one else to do it, or just wants to do it themselves can get an idea of the process. For a year now that door lock has been working fine, so from my perspective this was a successful DIY.

How was this not done correctly? I followed the same procedure as shown in the video and now have a new lock actuator installed that works and the door paneling looks exactly the same as before it was removed to get to the part. Perhaps you are a mechanic feeling job insecurity because people can do it themselves and save some money?

I looked through your channel and couldn't find the video where you show us the easier and smarter way to do this.....oh yeah that right, you have no videos on your channel. You just want to contribute negative commentary but no helpful videos.
