@@Livingtree32 🫠🙃 wherever you learned that needs to stop teaching that as fact or you need to go back and study more. Either way 🤷🏽‍♂️
There is very much a tongbiquan that mimics the ape… the very movements in the video… it is not an internal art as shaolin is not internal. Tong bei quan however is internal and has relation to taiji.
Both are separate from each other and any shaolin.
Look up the white ape tong bei stuff and that is tongbi. Look up WomaoGui that is the only tongbei quan you will find on RUclips . My credibility is as a generation disciple in that art. 🙏
I do plan on going around and having those tongbi guys stop stealing our good name.
There is a video on RUclips in Chinese with me translating to English explaining that. Look up wumaogui tongbei and look for a video where is is talking with a mic and a big dude next to him (me).
He says it in Chinese and I translate to English it was at a big martial arts seminar. He was telling them that info cause there were tongbi dudes there and he was making it clear to everyone in front of them 😂 love that guy

@@Livingtree32 they deleted my reply 😂.
Tongbi is tong bi look up bai yuan tongbei and that is tongbi it is not shaolin but like shaolin it is an external martial art that copies animals. There is only 1 tong bei it is called HEYI TONGBEI quan which is internal.
The names are significant HEYI means unified tongbei thru the BACK refers to the pathway of power and the body structure to realize the dantien. It is very connected to taiji and from stories I have heard influenced the origins of Chen taiji. Tong bi (shou bi de bi) thru arms which refers to the whipping motion penetrating thru the target.
My credentials are as a HEYI tongbei disciple one of the few. Disciple of WumaoGui out of Shanghai who is himself the representative of the art.
I hope this one does not get erased. Look up Wumaogui that is tongbei anything else on RUclips saying tongbei is just tongbi trying to take the name.

@@flowrepins6663the standard of kung fu has degraded rapidly, so your statement is “mostly” true, but usually more so in regards to self-proclaimed “masters”. As recently as the turn of the last century there were many kung fu master who defeated western boxers who wanted to prove boxing was superior when they came to China by testing her martial arts. Despite the kung fu masters being at a huge disadvantage, fighting either under “boxing rule” or “fists only” they still defeated their opponents despite this huge handicap, what’s more, their opponents were convincingly defeated by a wide margin, despite challenging and goading kung fu master to fight them at their own game. You probably don’t care about all of the political and socioeconomic reasons that kung fu has degraded so rapidly so I will spare you and won’t bore you with the details. And you may have possibly already made up your mind, but for anybody else reading this who is a kung fu practitioner or enthusiast; flowrepins6663’s statement only holds true in the last couple decades or so, and typically only if we believe whole heartedly that all self-proclaimed kung fu “masters” are indeed masters. You see the trend continue; anyone else with an axe to grind will post a fight or a sparring session video to RUclips with a kung fu guy verses any other kind of martial arts practitioner, and guaranteed that as long as the kung fu guy loses, they are posting to RUclips as fast as possible and making doubly sure to refer to the the kung fu guy as a “master” in the title of their video.

My impression is, it's a decent mechanism for coping with adrenaline dumping. If you're stressed or scared, it can be hard to apply fine motor skills, but wide looping movements like this can still be easier to pull off. It might be a decent training method if you aren't expecting to fight in an elite competitive environment, and just want to reach a point of being "good enough" to defend yourself in a stressful fight scenario. Outside the confines of a competitive environment, even pro fighters often become too scared to apply their best strategy (one pro fighter for example said that by far his scariest fight was against a smaller, untrained home invader.) So depending on what the purpose of your training is, it might be worthwhile to focus on techniques you can apply in those sorts of situations.

Tongbei training seems to have some ways to make that kind of flailing strike hurt very, very much, I recall it's something about unusually flexible scapula that Tongbei practitioners specifically train for. They also condition their forearms for both the flailing strikes and to defend against the same flailing strikes, and this may catch others by surprise when they attempt to block the flailing strike without the same conditioning.

I watched a video once that explained that tongbei's advantage is its primarily a movement principle, with specific conditionings for moving in that manner. They dont bog themselves with chained choreographed techniques that, as ppl would argue nowadays, dont work in a ring. So when a tong bei person starts to learn boxing, they learn with an open mind while also bringing their unusual striking patterns to the table. U can c him doing a lot of movements that many would consider suboptimal yet he's able to do it FAST, which is down to their specific shoulder conditioning

its hard to understand your range, if you arent familiar with / cant understand your *opponents* timing.
tong bei has strikes that start behind them, and travel far, but their techniques speed/time to execution isnt linear, so its hard to gauge when youre safe or when youre in danger. theres so many beats in the rhythm where you could be in danger, it doesnt feel safe to stay in your range. you feel like youve got to find openings into your range to attack. but when you do, you get pushed out because you cant time your blocks to their strikes.
