      I did for a couple of years. My teacher was a judge from Chengdu (one of the guys in the grey jackets and yellow ties). I miss practicing Sanda. This and one of your other videos, really makes me want to practice my side kicks again,and get them higher. Good stuff as always my man.

      I trained it for 12 years and teach it now. How my gym teaches it had been heavily influenced by the competition available for our students, which is typically Muay Thai, so there's less emphasis on non MT-legal throws. My "lineage" (lol) is Jason Yee to Marvin Perry and Josh Bartholomew.

    Every striking style should spar with kickboxing rules. The spacing, timing, and focus are too important not to. People get too wrapped up in style instead of the fundamentals of combat.

    • @FightCommentary
      @FightCommentary  21 день назад

      Just use the word "esque" in the future, so "Bruce Lee-esque" The A word should be okay for RUclips but always try to find non-swear words. Sorry I sound like an elementary school teacher, but we all know how much RUclips has changed these past ten years when it comes to what's allowed and what's not.

    • @ssths
      @ssths 21 день назад

      @FightCommentary thats fair. It's a shame, becomes censorship of my culture after a certain point. By not censoring certain words, RUclips is defacto discriminating against people who speak AAVE.

    • @FightCommentary
      @FightCommentary  20 дней назад +1

      EXACTLY. I totally agree with you. I fought all these rules for a while, but eventually when I started behaving, the channel started going back up again, so the power of capitalism is often the most powerful way to control people. Because you force them to think they want it too. It's different than censorship in an authoritarian country because people know it's just the way no matter what. When you tie economic gains to something, you force the mind to think you want it. Thanks again for understanding. The future can be a little worrisome if society keeps going down this direction.

    I've observed 4 archetypes in high level sanda competition
    - point scorers. Very fast and clean. Look to land clearly enough to take a score and then get out. A lot of lighter Chinese fighters take this approach
    - counter fighters. Are sticky and can convert any offense into a throw
    - damagers. A sanda fight is at most 3 2min rounds, so you have to hit hard and be able chase an evader down. Caucasus fighters frequently fight this way
    - bulldozers. Run at you with heavy damage but ultimately looking to land throws offensively. Iran in particular and other middle eastern countries feature stockier fighters that are really strong and can lock you up into a throw or pushout

    By the square stance and hand podition I say Kyokushin. Shoyokan, the most popular form of Karate, has a wide stance and the footwork is different because of that. Shotokan footwork is more like olympic fencing, in and out and a lot of intercepting and mostly a couter attack style, while kyokushin is more square stance , more static and going forward as oposed to most karate styles

      In Shaolin Kempo they do a punch straight up under the chin arm fully extended not with the elbow bent like the western boxing uppercut. I forget what they call it but that is what I was taught. Great way to dislocate the jaw.

    • @leondarley2811
      @leondarley2811 19 дней назад

      Not particularly. The term age-zuki can refer to any rising punch, most commonly with a straight fist (seiken), not an inverted fist (uraken) as with an uppercut.
      This is to say terminology is far less codified than people make out. I've heard an uppercut being refered to as age-ura-zuki, age-zuki, ura-zuki, and shita-zuki.
