    I am not sure if anyone has mentioned this but with the amount of plastic in the ocean, people who eat fish, ingest that plastic. In the UK, last year the average person who consumed fish regularly ingested 11,000 tiny pieces of plastic... That is something that I never even thought about before going vegan. Sushi used to be my favorite food and it still is, its just veggie sushi now which is honestly so much better.

    I find it interesting how humans make all animals "other" (insisting that pets don't have emotions like humans, or that animals don't feel pain like humans) in order to get rid of the cognitive dissonance that comes with killing them or experimenting on them. Those beliefs are so deeply ingrained it can take a very long time to break out of that way of thinking.

      @@Unknown_Meliodas pretty sure cows are vegan, but the problem is yes even though animals eat other animals so u can to. why don’t u eat a dog then? when a person sees someone eating a cat for example they are disgusted yet they go home to eat a nice piece of steak. Remember the Vsco trend? People used metal straws for turtles yet there’s millions of other animals and fish dying.

      I know I'm late to the video but I can't agree more, even as an outdoorsman and fisherman, the mass culling of sooooooo many species of fish disgusts me. There are so many sustainable options but people CHOOSE to keep fishing and hunting these animals into oblivion. We've lost the connection to the earth that our ancestors had. 99% of western society never considers the impact a hamburger has or the fish at the supermarket have. Truly sad.

    I don't eat fish anymore, because I used to have a pet fish. She passed away a long time ago. The rare times I would eat fish, I'd always think about that widdle cutie swimming around her tank and I'd always feel really bad about it. I cut fish completely out of my diet a while ago. I've just come to the conclusion that fish are friends, not food. I think I might have just said a quote from Finding Nemo, but it fits here. 😁

    LOVE this topic! I was pescatarian for so long (my boyfriend used to make fun of me and say I was the ultimate LA stereotype when I would tell waiters that I was a 'dairy free pescatarian') then I spent a ton of time at the beach and in the ocean and did research on overfishing and the disruption of the ocean's ecosystem and knew that from then on eating fish was out of the question. The more vegan I became the more connected I became to the living souls that people put in their mouths - you are so right that just bc fish aren't mammals we don't feel quite as connected but they deserve life too. Y'all are continuously the best 💕

My father, who after 2 years of me being vegan, still berates veganism often and refuses to even hear about vegan topics or anything to do with animal slaughter. Some people stew in the luxury of ignorance whilst others pay the ultimate price of their life for someone who wouldn't even have the audacity to face them.

    I actually am a carnitarian, a lot of people assume it's the opposite of a vegetarian, but its actually the opposite of a pescatarian. Meaning, I eat meat but not fish.
    It really started for me when I watched finding Nemo as a child. For some reason the scene where the sharks said "fish are friends, not food" really resonated with me. After that, I refused to eat any seafood. I also grew up with fish as pets, so I'm a bit biased towards them. Growing up, I ate meat and always knew it came from animals, but I never made the same connection as I did with fish.
    I remember the lobster tanks in grocery stores and asking my dad if we could get one (as a pet, not realizing people eat them) and he said "why? You wouldnt eat it." And I was just shocked that he would even consider eating something I would consider my friend.
    So.. the fish thing stuck, but I never went full vegetarian or vegan. I think the trick is to start by educating your kids on where their food comes early on in life, and I will definitely be doing that so my kids get to have more of a say in what they eat as they grow up. If they choose to continue eating meat, then that's fine, but I want them to be able to make those decisions on their own and respect where it comes from.

      Interesting how making that connection can have such an impact! That's really how going vegan started for all of us. We started seeing all animals as living beings rather than food and it became something we couldn't unsee. Cool that you can relate :)

    I've been vegan for 2 years now and lately I've been looking into some property and one I came across had a beautiful stream full of fish. It was advertised on the listing as a fishing spot and I got to thinking, would I eat fish if I caught it myself? I started to justify it to myself with reasons like "it would be on a much smaller scale then industrial fishing", "they would be a lot healthier cause they live in a fresh water spring", & "I would probably only eat it once in a blue moon". Then I came across this video and it brought me back down to earth. No matter where they live or how they're caught, fish are still living beings and I have no right or reason to take their lives.

      Hey Matt, we believe that killing animals for food is unnecessary and cruel. There are plenty of plant-based sources of protein and omegas so killing an animal that doesn’t want to die (all animals) seems inhumane. Also a lot of the water that fish live in is polluted with micro plastics, and the fishing industry itself is responsible for large amounts of plastic ending up in the ocean in the first place. AND over fishing can lead to disruption of already troubled ecosystems so there are a lot of reasons ☺️💚

Fast forward I moved to Hawaii and everyone was so confused and shocked that I would not eat fish (this was before i was vegan) when fish is everywhere in restaurants. So for me fish I gave up a long time ago. I even remember someone asking me if I wnated to try a bite of their fish, and I literally started to panick and get flustered cause i was so aganist it. Also with fishing, they will take a knife into the eye of the fish to hit the nerves to kill them... so cruel... :(

    As an omnivore, I can respect your choice not to eat animals. I truly understand, I grew up hunting and fishing since I could walk, but I was also raised with a deep reverence for nature. Many hunters and fisherman have a profound respect for the animals they take in the field. HOWEVER, saying that a piece of fish is from "someone else's body" pushes the envelope for me. The idea that a fish has the same moral value as a human, to me, completely devalues the contributions that people can make to the world. Fish have not cured disease, fish have not invented the equipment and electronics that allow this channel to survive. Fish feel pain, of course they do. They have a brain, nerves and a spine. But to anthropomorphize every animal is a bit over the top.

    • @TheVeganView
      @TheVeganView  5 лет назад +1

      It’s not that fish are the same as humans, it’s that they’re living beings who feel pain and fear and have a desire to live just like all animals - humans included - do. We don’t need to eat fish in order to survive, so it’s hard to justify killing another animal just because we like the way they taste or we enjoy the sport of fishing. It’s easy to get hung up on the details of an argument, but the underlying message is this: we’re vegan to reduce unnecessary pain and suffering when we can. We do that with conscious food choices that honor that intention. Hope that helps you see where we’re coming from! 💚

  • @ea575ider9

    It’s not about if the animals have feelings or not, just having the respect for it and killing it for a just reason is fine. If you wanna not eat fish because of your own health benefits is a different story. I’m Hawaiian and catching fish and harvesting other things from the sea is part of my culture I agree that majority of a persons diet should be plant based but fish and other things in the ocean give lots of health benefits 💪🏽🙏🏽🤙🏽

    • @TheVeganView

      Thanks for sharing your point of view! Ours is simply that since fish do feel pain, and we don’t need to inflict pain on them for nutrients (the same can be found in a variety of plant foods) then why would we knowingly hurt another animal? Hope that helps you see where we’re coming from! 💚💚💚

    So wait, do vegans have dogs/pets ? If so, how do they feel about putting their dogs on leashes and separating them from their mothers 🤔

    • @TheVeganView
      @TheVeganView  3 года назад

      Great question! Most vegans choose to only adopt rescue dogs, which at that point they’ve already been separated from their mothers, or if they are a puppy they are properly weaned off and separated at a time where they no longer need the mothers milk. Dogs were bred (by humans) to be domesticated, they can no longer survive in the wild so it is up to us humans to protect and provide for them. Much like rescue factory farm animals can’t survive in the wild either, they go to a sanctuary to live out their days in peace. Thank you for asking!

    • @MarielaStarr
      @MarielaStarr 3 года назад

      Interesting perspective but do you believe dogs would choose to live their lives this way for themselves ?

    • @TheVeganView
      @TheVeganView  3 года назад

      They only know domestication. They have never lived in the wild, so yes. They depend on humans for survival and protection.

    Being sentient does not mean "suffering". There are computer simulations of evolution currently running around the world of creatures even more complex than insects that try to avoid negative stimuli. Should you stop these simulations too, or just because those creatures aren't DNA-based, then their "suffering" doesn't count? This is nothing more than projection and a lack of understanding of the Neuropsychology and qualia. Fish does not have enough telencephalon to even remotely come close to emotions like mammals or animals that have consciousness.
    The plastic toxicity from ocean fish is vastly exaggerated, and the health benefits highly surpass the risk if you know what type of fish to get. IT is also important to know that algae omegas is more than a THOUSAND times more expensive and harder to absorve than fish. Many poor populations around the world would never have the economic viability to replace sources of omega and complex protein to their population with algae or other forms of supplements. This is NOT sustainable. Also, many countries have the cheapest form of fish meat based of fresh-water cultivation, The Tilapia is cheaper than second grade meat and pork in Brasil, for example, its cultivation is highly sustainable and do not disrupt the ecosystem of any oceans. Chile also cultivates salmon and Trout in fresh-pounds in a very sustainable fashion. A diet including fish is insurmountable more healthy, and more economically sustainable than living out of omega-3 supplements. Typical misleading vegan propaganda from privileged alienated first worlders to other alienated first worlders.

      I know this is late, but, like you said, animals eat other animals, for example : bear, wolf, tiger ( real carnivore ) killing it's prey, that's because these animals don't have the choice , Their intestins are much more shorter than ours, and they produce more acidity in their stomachs so it's easier for them to digest meat flesh..they can't eat Carrots, Bananas, Bread, Tofu etc.. while us humans can completely live without having to eat Dead Animals..
