    Nice well presented video as usual Toys. The thing I will caution a new person thinking about getting into tuning is being realistic with what you are going to be tuning. There is a big difference between tuning a stock long block engine with headers vs tuning a 440 cubing inch ls with twin turbos and a huge cam. Tuning WOT is easy. It's driveablity tuning of heavily modified engines that usually gets people frustrated and stuck. Engines that stall. Engines that have starting problems. Engines that have lean tip in problems. Engines that hang idle high. That is the stuff that is NOT so easy to figure out. There is a reason that most professional tuners don't divulge their secrets. Which makes it tough for the little guys like us with less experience.

      100% agree with everything you said. Also, if you are a newb tuner (I am an advanced newb tuner imo b/t/w) always take baby steps if you can. For example, when I supercharged my C5, one of the reasons I chose not to change the cam at the same time was because that would have added an additional tuning variable. I wanted to get my tune sorted out (with just the SC and fuel injector addition/changes) so that it is 100% drivable and safe before moving on to a cam. Also #2, if I ever do get stuck (and I am sure I will) I will give it my all first, then have a pro sort the issue out - then compare the tunes (very easy to do in HP Tuners). That essentially be a two for one. 1. Fix the car & 2. learn something new! Cheers!

    Have contacted a few shops and they don't know of any that can lower the operating temps in my 2004 other that hooking up a unit turn on the fans manually to increase fan output..

    • @Toys4Life
      @Toys4Life  2 года назад

      A simple tweak to your tune with HP tuners can change the temperatures at which each of your two fans come on at and turn off at. I think that's what you're referring to. Otherwise the best thing to do to keep your temps down is make sure your condenser and radiator clean, they get super filthy on these cars pretty quick and block air flow.

    My son and I just bought HP Tuners. He has a 2002 C5 Z06 and we both have Fiero GT's. We are swapping his Fiero with a 3800SC with a bigger cam and some other slight modifications. He also wants to run on E85 so we have 60# fuel injectors. I'm assuming you tune your Fiero as well. The engine harness guy put a stock tune in the ECM for this swap. In your opinion and with your knowledge, will the stock tune get us started or should there be something we do right away to get us in the ballpark of where we need to be? Also, are you running a stock ECM in your Fiero? Thanks.

    • @Toys4Life
      @Toys4Life  2 года назад

      IMO, you will need to adjust the injector flow rate at a minimum for the 60's to get the fuel in the ball park to run.

      My HP Tuners setup is a decade old. The newer generations are different and mostly just offer bluetooth connectivity over my older cable required (but reliable) connector. Check with the HPT website to be 100% certain.

    • @Toys4Life
      @Toys4Life  2 года назад

      Hi! If all you want to do is up the RPM limit - HP Tuners can easily take care of that. Unless you have a more aggressive cam or you are supercharged - it wont really do much because stock is running out of HP right up at the stock RPM limit.

      @@Toys4Life Let me tell you a little story - owned an '86 Fiero GT with the optional Isuzu 4 speed. I bought it with 67,000 miles and when it came time to change the oil a friend talked me into Amsoil and I convinced him because of our average ambient temperature (Daytona Beach) that I would only go with 50 weight he conceded after reading the literature and I didn't change the oil for 30000 miles. I would replenish the oil even if it was just down slightly and change the oil filter around every 5000 miles and when I sold it @ 138,000 miles it still purred at 6000 RPMs, all day long in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear, whereas it would only pull to 5800 RPMs in 4th at approximately 142 mph. The only modifications were a competition Hypertech chip and I took the old Dremel to the inside of the exhaust manifolds and put a cherry bomb where the catalytic converter was and it ran unbelievably well. I bought a 2002 C5 06 6 years ago July with 47,000 miles and it just turned 57,000 miles. Everything is OEM except for a cold air intake, and I question if it does, in fact, have a cam, because it's easy to put a cam in and not change the appearance. Every C5 Z06 I have compared it to, it idles like it has a cam and the power band at 3700 RPMs rips the tires lose in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears. Unlike the Fiero GT, the engine doesn't purr and I think because it has that extra built into the engine, but I ride it out all the time to the rev limiter maintaining that RPM up around and through the gears. And because of that fucking rev limiter, just like in the Fiero GT, I've almost lost control of the car through curves and that is why I need to change the rev limiter. I got by all those years with the Fiero GT and it looks like I'll be doing the same with the C5 Z06 ¿`_

    I agree, I bought HPTuners in 2017 when I replaced the ls1 with an Ls3 in my C5. No regrets, been a great tool over the years.

      HPTuners only reads/writes to the PCM. These cars have a BCM, body control module. I want to disable the factory shock settings as I’ve converted to coil overs and this setting is in BCM.
