A wideband O2 sensor sends a 0-5 volt signal (Lamda) to your ECU/Wideband gauge. Your ECU/Wideband gauge does some calculations to provide you with the AFR number that you see. Different fuels like E85 vs Gasoline have different AFR that is required for idle, WOT, cruise, etc. There is not as much energy in E85 so you have to run a lot richer AFR with E85. His point in this video in why you should use Lamda vs AFR is that the voltage (Lambda) from the wideband O2 does not change regardless of the fuel type you use. In other words 0 volts is rich and 5 volts is lean regardless of the fuel you use. The wideband is measuring O2 content not the type of fuel your using. If you log the 0-5 volt signal (Lambda) from the wideband and learn what is rich and what is lean voltage wise you will never have to learn the proper AFR for each type fuel out there, gas, methanol, E85, etc. I did not know this until watching his video and doing a little supplemental reading to get a better understanding.
Thanks for that info. You answered the very question I had.
Made it much for simplified. Thank you
Now modern day cars(or at least Toyota's) won't even give you voltage readings for lamda and require you to determine amperage numbers for diagnosis. I wonder how this will play into the tuning world in the future.
Thank you man , you just answered a question that i am hesitated to ask coz i am a newb!! cheers
He uses LAMBA because of different fuel types require DIFFERENT AFR.......he uses a sensor in the fuel system to read how much ethanol is in the fuel so the ecu can keep the proper afr calibration.......IF HE WASNT TUNING FOR ETHENOL. .....AFR WOULD BE FINE😊.....tuning in lambda when the ecu is jumpin around to different maps for different fuel its just easier to tell it (this for that and that for this) and the ecu just does it with the short and long fuel trims😊
I got my notebook open! Just turbocharged my eg civic and I want to do the tuning myself. Even though my platform is not GM, this info seems to be really important regardless. I’m highly appreciative of all of the effort put into describing this stuff!
How's tht civic doing ??? Where did u learn how to tune ??? Wht software did u use ??
I want to tune my Lx so if you know anything that could help me out that would be great
@@willdube1919the LXforums is gonna be a good place for you to read up, also the hptuners site if youre using their hardware and software (im using their mpvi3 for my gen 3 hemi 5.7) or the site for whatever tuner you picked if not HP.
Still waiting .. @landinmills8530
I am a mechanic but old school . I am a nube in this tune thing ! Where can one obtain the important info to begin understanding where what and how to work out air ,mfi and timing degree? Got a BMW M54 in my ford courier and aftermarket ecu
Just getting started with tuning my LS7 in the coming month(s) and want to say TIA for posting these videos and taking the time to help people like myself!!!
Sure thing, let me know if you have any questions along the way! Thanks for watching!
great videos on my second time watching before i do my own. I just rebuilt my 6litre LS in my 2006 silverado and added a mild cam and have have a rough idle. i bought a MPVI3 and don't have a a wide band and am hoping to get it tuned well enough to break in and do some towing, then i will buy a wide band and do more precise tuning. At this time iI am not interested in huge performance just enough for daily driving and towing.
The 16 thumbs down are the tuners that are gonna loose some business soon 🥴🥴🥴
they're probably lobbyists from efi live
I wouldn’t lose any business to this guy or idiots out there who think they can tune without a dyno..
@@Turboboob I'm sure 👌. I promise with that attitude, you would NOT get any of my business. Any tuner that knows tuning, knows that drive tuning can accomplish anything a dyno can. Most dyno tuners just rush customers through to make money. Not anybody can tune an engine either just because they purchased a tuner.
@@Turboboob anyone can buy a dyno. How much are they, like for 40 or 50 K?
@@boosted0079 I wouldn’t want your business, lol your an idiot if you think your butt dyno does what my actual dyno can do.
I was confused last week when I purchased my HP tuner. I pondered whether or not to buy the pro package. I did not and oh brother am I glad! I just put that money toward the AEM 30-0300 X-Series Wideband UEGO AFR Sensor Controller Gauge. Thank you for the excellent information!
I know this comment is very old but what do you think of your wideband? I’m looking at getting one and am wondering what kind I should get
I don't know how I just found this. Been in my own little tuning world for 15 years. You are the kind of detail oriented, little by little, one step at a time, write everything down, kind of guy that I am. AND YES, I have seen where the "blow up" point is. I'm gonna watch through your vids and learn what I haven't aleeady.
In totally new at tuning. So to make even more fun I will be tuning a 2018 Cha Scat Pack. I already have a HP tuners pcm and a Peitz performance tune. But I want to learn this and make changes myself
Thanks so much for making this series. Back in the late 90's up to around 2009 I used a 3rd party tuner and later an HPTuners to optimize my '99 GTP Grand Prix. Ran a cam headers, ported heads and supercharger and a smaller pulley for more boost. With my custom tune, not only did it run completely knock free on 87 octane, it ran low 13.1's all day long with a police radar verified top speed of 163mph and here is the best part... 39mpg on the higherway at 70mph. Not bad for a 4-door, 5 person grocery hauler. This was before my RUclips days, and I had made the most comprehensive tuning guide on the web for the Grand Prix around, and just like you... for free.
Being really late to the party, I just picked up an '04 Z06 vette, and you have piqued my interest in tuning again! Gen 3 LS motors are all new to me, but thanks to your help, I think it will be fun to just play around with and see if I can attain 450hp and 40mpg just for the pleasure of learning. Thanks again!
I’m really curious, is high gas mileage and that kind of horse power realistic? That would be pretty awesome
@@dannynavarro9836 Realistic? Sure, I drove it around like that for 2 years and helped tune at least a couple dozen other Pontiac 3.8 litre supercharged cars to very similar results... and if you do a search here in RUclips and search for Eco Vette, you will see a guy with a 375+ HP C5 coupe that does 40mpg on the highway thanks to some good tuning via HPTuner... I was far from the first and far from the last! :)
JerryPH that’s awesome, I have a 2000 dodge Dakota with the 3.9 and I wanted to supercharge it as well, would have to fab up an adapter plate since there’s no after market support like the 3.8 you had. I was kinda worried that it would effect the mpg since I daily it but that would be sweet
@@dannynavarro9836 It's a combination of many things, weight, aerodynamics, gearing, environmental conditions, engine supporting mods as well as that good tune that we are all trying to learn about here, and a lot of experimentation. I used to spend $200 a weekend in gas alone jut driving around and tuning over and over, making small changes. It was more about the journey and fun more than any final specific goal for me.
@@JerryPH Doing the driving around the tune is the pain part... drive, data, make change, write PCM, NEXT... and repeat... Makes me jealous of people with unlimited Dyno use at their fingertips, lol. I tuned my '05 GTO with my first MVPI 1 (the OG model that I JUST changed up about a year ago to get the 2+, and not 3 is out), where I port and polished the heads, did exaughst (x-pipe/headers/mufflers), intake, port TB and runners, upgraded lifters, bearings, rings, block casting/flashing to return oil back down faster, and put a CAM in. I loved that car, and still do, just been in the garage for 2 years.... I've also tuned someones Camaro where he upgraded the rear gearing and tuned for the new gear ratio for speedo and made some changes to make it a little faster and better, tuned my grandpas C6 3LT Z51 M6 vette and he LOVED that car and then tuned his C7 1LT A8. I am tuning my C7 3LT Z51 now that I just purchased and my wife's '22 Explorer ST with lots of bolt on goodies and upgrades... starting a tune on a vehicle that has 8 miles on the OD is nice... LOL...
I love going back and watching these. When I went through Tuner School at Hennessey Performance, they dogged Lambda and taught in AFR. I had already watched your videos a few times at this point, and began questioning them. I did graduate, but they no longer take my calls lol.
Bro, you have to evolve, just goes to show they aren’t!
was thinking about going there, is it worth it?
heck ya brother, im a ford guy myself buy love vehicles in general im in the process of putting a d series procharger on my 98 cobra, im gonna have my buddy tune it (he owns a small performance shop locally) till i can get some more money saved for a stand alone ecu and program (probably gonna be a next winter thing) im sure ill be chasing fuel delevery after the power adder so ill be plenty busy this winter
Funny I got back to the beginning start fresh and I missed a lot cause I had no idea what you were saying but now I get it lol thanks bro! ABT
Thank you for making this video. Professional transmission builder now i need to tune to help my transmissions last forever. My take away... Lambda not afr makes perfect sense to me
Just getting started with HP tuners , Can't get a tuner to do right for my 08' 3s TBSS , after Truck Norris cam swap plus all that goes with that, Sooo , as the saying goes , If u want something done right..... Lol But I WANTED TO SAY THANKS SOOO MUCH BROTHER!!! 🫡🫡 Thank u for taking the time to explain all this step by step, you have a gift for teaching, I have all the books and stuff that came with HP pro pack, but I dont retain information very well by just reading, but being able to see, and hear u do it TOTALLY makes it doable ! Really Appreciate you Bro! 🫡💯
I just started my tuning journey 2 months ago and your videos are really helpful, thank man for the time and effort 🤝🤝 highly appreciated
I just want to say i love your videos. Ive been heavily researching tuning because tuning is expensive and i have serval ls swaps and a factory LS car. From your vidoes I've been able to make several adjustments. From what I've found, many people gatekeep this information so thank you for sharing
Tuning in AFR numbers can be fine if you always leave everything in gas scale, people who switch to e85 AFR numbers and what not then go back to tuning pump 93 stuff you'll get mixed up switching back and forth. I have always tuned e85 and pump gas cars as if they were both regular gasoline. A NGK AFX wideband only displays in gas scale so makes it easy. 14.68 is lambda of 1.0 on it no matter what fuel it's sniffing. 11.00 AFR on that wideband is the same on e50, e85 and 93 oct
Outstanding presentation. Will organized and clear. I am looking forward to the following videos!
Thanks for watching!
LOVE IT...!!!!!! Definitely appreciate someone taking time to help people learn about tuning THANK YOU
Thanks, Jim! Should have the next video out before the weekend where we start doing MAF tuning.
Damn man! Just discovered your channel. Great info here. Thanks
Just subbed and enjoying the down to earth approach in which you explain things. I have just purchased HP tuners MPVI2 and getting an AEM AFR kit to suit to tune my cammed ls1 , 4L60e retrofitted into a 1977 Holden KIngswood . Im in Australia for those wondering what car that is :D Keep up the good work mate.
Sweet setup!
Wow, thank you for this series!! You are very knowledgeable and have a mountain of content here!
I just got the MVP2 Pro but I am brand new to the world of tuning.
I’m looking forward to watching these videos. I liked, subscribed, and I will be sure to share this with my friends 🙏
Not sure if you’ll see this. I’m curious If you’re still tuning
Is it worth learning to use as a form of income ? Considering the time it takes to get good enough
@@taylordout93 it is worth it!
How are you doing now man?
I'm goin order hp tuners thanks to ur videos there really helpful
Can't wait to unlock some more power from my coyote thanks for the information
Things to commonly look at while idle tuning would be great video!
You could probably set up source control for your files and when you commit you can add messages. That way you don't have to store 100s of files on your local machine, but still be able to go back. Idk how big the files are, but if they are big it is worth looking into it.
I have a completely stock ‘02 5.3 Silverado and i will be upgrading in steps.
1st upgrade will be cam, injectors, fuel pump then next year a turbo. So with no tuners available in my area I’m trying to get a handle on HP tuners while I’m stock. Once I feel ambitious enough I’ll install the cam and bolt-ons. Then I’ll have 8 months to get better at tuning before I install the turbo.
I’ve played a little with the tuner and I definitely have much to learn! Thanks again for the videos, I’m sure I will have many questions lol
Good luck and let me know if you have any questions along the way!
I got '02 5.3 sierra i just cammed now trying to dial in more
And I'm new to it all... 🤐
Greg Chaparro which cam did you go with?
@@swarbricke texas speed stage 3 cam
Wow, clear concose, engaging. Well done, I've watched the intro only, can't wait to see more and learn.
Much much appreciated.
I better keep looking. I'm brand new to this. Thanks
Did my first tune thanks, got 2 free t shirts separating the mpvi2 and credits separately with your code. No joke those are some of nicest shirts iv had!
Starting with all of your HP tuners videos myself, you were highly recommended from a friend. I joined your membership because I have already learned alot and I am still soaking up more. I am starting with a difficult project myself that I may have some questions about if there's anyway we can communicate!
Check out the patreon link, it’s setup specifically for being able to get assistance with stuff
Kyle you are awesome. I just wrote my first tune… deleted DOD. Lol. But it’s a start.
Just to let you know sir I have my wireless ear bud in and I'm listening to every video in this series at work, thank you and much support sir, by the way I'm subscribed for yous support
So glad you wanna answer questions because I have a ton of them involving a 2014 L83 twin turbos in a 1993 S-10 ?
I’m old school gen 1 man, but now these newer gen 5 are fascinating and I want to get the tune right.. thank god I stumbled across ur video 👍
The 5th gen is complicated but so long as you approach it correctly and don't mess with multiple systems at once it can be dialed in good
I wish I would have taken a little more time researching tuning before I bought a new cam and valve springs. I was under the impression that I could have my 5.3 ls tuned for under 600.00 and thought I could buy a stand alone and tune it for 1000.00 Sad that the cheapest cam swap possible cost 2000.00 and that's without labor. All due to needing to adjust the timing and adding fuel. I want my distributer and carb back. Then all I need is a timing light 9/16 wrench and a jet kit and it's done.
Yeepp true true. How nice it was. :)
Like what you’re doing with the channel and the list of upcoming content sounds really good. Looking forward to it! Thanks for making the videos man!
Thanks, hopefully people find it useful and I'm anxious to get the rest of the content out.
Can't say it enough man thank you for this. I think I've watched this series 10 times. Thanks for all the great details 😀👍
Holy shit, I feel like I just walked into the most beautiful palace of information I could have wished for. All I wanted to do is do an EGR delete on my 2020 Colorado with the LGZ, which lead me to worrying about messing with air and fuel, which lead me here!
Thanks alot bro, i am a beggener on hp and i am afrid of breaking the car engine in the first try of tuning looool
Hi my name is Robert, and i want to start tuning so your videos are very helpful. Iam from Texas
Just wanted to say thanks for this video.
Keep this man around in the purge, he’s making free tuning how-to’s…the tuning ChrisFix
Thank you for all this I'm learning with my '12 sierra. I got to get a wide band for sure. My ltfts are way rich -12/-10 and I'm trying to get them in check
Make sure you reset them anytime you make an adjustment to your fueling map to help speed along the process. I'm planning on a LTFT/STFT video in the future to show exactly the relation to them and a wideband. But at least you're rich for now.
I just wanted to say thank you for all your video content, it’s always great to see someone give accurate advice. I have a question if you don’t mind. I am a total newbie when it comes to tuning, I want to tune my my Escalade (2017) but don’t know what should I tune first. I currently have a AFE momentum intake with a corsa exhaust. I keep hearing of a street tune but I have no clue as to what a street tune consist of. Any help would be great fully appreciated . 🙏🏼
Street tune is just doing it on the street as opposed to a dyno tune. Look into doing the MAF first
Thank you💪🏼
This is great but I think I need the video before this video - I’ve paused to Google 4 terms already... but thank you for sharing your experience so freely
likewise man, im behind on the terminology. I feel like a complete idiot
Right. First question for me, which He says I absolutely need is, what's a wide band lol?
@@Funckinnutcase I googled its a air/fuel ratio sensor
If there was a a damn tuning dictionary that would help so much.
When you say get a Wideband? DO you mean a wideband O2 sensor? I see a lot of people say this, but no one really explains it....
Also, thank you for making these videos!! I bought my tuner (HP Tune) yesterday. No clue what Im doing but I can learn fast!! (almost as fast as I drive)
Yeah, go with the AEM 30-0300, it's the easiest to implement, I've got a video on hooking it up with serial to USB, cheap
What's the difference between the AEM X SERIES PN 30-0300 that you offer and AEM X SERIES PN 30-0334 that HP Tuners recommend? Thanks for your help and support
Not always “one mod at a time”
With break-in oil in the crankcase, my understanding of the break-in procedure to seat new cams and hydraulic lifters is that the engine not be allowed to idle for the first 20 minutes following initial start-up. As soon as the lifters pump up, the engine is to be brought up above 2,000 RPM and maintained above that level for the first 20 minutes. Slight revving between 2,000 and 3,000 RPM is beneficial.
From a tuning aspect, this procedure has me really worried. First of all, it’ll be a miracle if the engine even starts after all that I’m doing to it (e.g., forged internals, bigger turbo, exhaust manifold, intake manifold, larger intake piping, bigger throttle body, injectors, fuel pump, race cams, new valves and valve springs), Most of these variables require a new tune. How do I get around this (relatively) high engine speed when the stock tune is likely to be way off from the beginning? The only hardware I can hold off installing in order to tune “one mod at a time” would be the bolt-ons such as the intake manifold, fuel injectors, and fuel pump. Based on your amazing videos, I’m thinking the thing to do might be to go for MAF tuning and a rich mixture to begin. Any advice on how to safely start tuning a new engine when “one mod at a time” doesn’t apply?
Greg
Great job bro, you just got a new subscriber from Mauritania 🇲🇷
Awesome! Welcome to the Garage!
Very nice videos. Comment for RUclips algorithm. I'll go check out your patreon too. You are providing a ton of value. I just bought my MPVI2 and only regret that I didn't buy through your Amazon link.
Thanks for watching!
Could we get a list of software and hardware required for tuning? I am trying to learn about tunning some specific JDM, but i don't know a]where to start Your videos are really good. It is a great starting point and I will possibly buy your courses
Very informative video! Good thing I watched it!
Subscribed! No one in my area really to tune my boosted Silverado. I own hp pro. Needing to switch from e98 to E85 so I’m trying to gain all the knowledge I can. Thank you for taking your time to share your knowledge!!
Nice! What year is your truck? Shouldn't be too hard, the cool part is that it's pretty linear so you can basically switch over to E85 and subtract around 8-9% fuel and you should be good. Let me know if you have any questions!
2006. Lq9. Cam. Long tubes. Magnusun mp122. 1050 cc injectors. Made 560 on 98. But I want to daily drive it so going E85 and want to take a little timing out maybe just for a peace of mind. I’m so grateful for you and people like you that share knowledge. So many tuners act like it’s a hidden secret and disclose nothing.
Yeah, that's a good idea but it shouldn't require too much. Just log your knock tables for awhile see if you're having any issues, I'd pull around 6 degrees from the wot range to be safe. Sounds like an awesome truck!
Goat Rope Garage thanks!!! I didn’t realize it would take that little Of adjustments. I was quoted 500 dollars to tune it so I bought the program and some credits instead. Going to learn on my own with the help of people like you. Keep the videos coming!!!
Dude, the hard part has been done already, shifting octanes is pretty easy, you're better off this way and you'll have a better idea of what going on. Thanks for the sub!
I really appreciate all of your videos, For a beginner like me, you have been a HUGE help! It is alot of information to digest, but very very good information. Can you go back to Tuning 101 and make like an order of operations list for different applications? I have a gen 4 L76 with headers and bolt ons, and I have followed along and gotten my HP tuners and AEM wide band all set up and recording properly. I am ready to dig in but not quite sure where to start with the tuning process, (other than reducing timing for saftey before I start changing parameters).
1) Starting from square one with basic bolt ons, do I start with speed density then move to MAF tuning then timing advance? 2) I will be changing the cam shaft this winter. Where would you start in that application when the engine internals have changed but still N/A and pump gas? I know that will really throw calibration off compared to simple bolt ons. 3) Or even more extreme example, if you had rebuilt your stock motor with different heads, cam, injectors, a forced injection set up, and switched to E85, where would you even start the tuning process at that point? (Id assume the new motor wouldnt even fire up on the original factory ECM calibration?) I feel you have put all the proper information out there for us beginners, I just dont feel very clear on where to start the process per application if that makes sense. And lastly, when will you be doing another live stream?
THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO MAKE THESE VIDEOS FOR US!!!
Harry, that's a lot to dig into but to answer your first question you can do either fueling method first, I generally do MAF as is it easier and you can the vehicle up and running on the MAF alone quick. Then I do speed density followed by timing. And good idea on the order of operation video!
Thank you for sharing information..
I don't know where to start tuning?
With which tools?

Great series of videos and I love the truck. I have a 1980 z28 with an 11-1 roller motor that I'm switching over from carb to 24x. I have a 0411 pcm and was planning on starting with a 02 z28 tune to start with then tune speed density from there. Could you do a video on how to re adjust firing order and injectors in the tune. Any advice would be appreciated as I am new to this.

first questions, What equipment do I need to start tuning, can I tune with just a laptop or do I need to buy a "tuner" and use a laptop to edit tune. What's the difference between different tuners?
Following
@@SillylittleWhiskers so I've done more research on this here are answers to my own questions haha
1. Q: "what equipment you need" A: Tuner and Laptop with matching tuner software. For HP Tuner, you can go to HPtuners wesite and order MPVI2+ tuner, that will comes with the software you need to use the tuner. You need to add "car credits" at check out for however many car you plan to tune. If you're planning to tune 2 cars with HP Tuner, you'll need 2 "car credits". "Car credits" are locked to individual VINs of the ECUs.
2. Q: "can I tune with just a laptop and OBD scanner" A: no, need proper Tuner hardware and software.
3. Q: "what's the difference between tuners" A: Different tuners support different cars and have different functions in the tuning software, HP Tuner seems to be the best option, next best thing is SCT tuner. But it seems to be overall inferior to the HP Tuner.
Never a stupid question
Dude. “Forget layman’s terms. Do you speak English?” Best movie quote for this video. This is more like a 330 class instead of a 101 class. We need ‘What is Lamda,’ ‘What is Wideband,’ etc. Can you start with a basic screen of what the settings are and how they look and what they mean, please? Thanks
Todd, check the playlists, there are a bunch that go into more granular topics and explain a lot of the details, these are more broad spectrum.
Goat Rope Garage My bad! You have quite a bit to choose from! Thanks for posting this. I will dig into all of them before I say anything else. I stand corrected.
@@rus19297 No worries! Thanks for watching!
Amazing series. Thank you so much. You truly have the best informational tubing videos!

I want to start out saying thanks and great job. Now to the questions. Can you do a video on how to set pid step by step. Im trying to set up a torque pid. And I dont know if it is built in the automatically or do I have to set one up. I would like to see if you can do a video on tricks and common stuff in hp tuners. I think the hardest part for most people is where to to things. Setting up pids histograms equations for everything. So if you already have one can you show me where to find it. Or can you make a video on the tutorial on hp tuners. Thanks again awesome job
Thanks
I have text with you before and I'm finally fixing to buy my hp tuners mpvi2. I've seen a few options come up on different packages. What is the best model/bang for the buck? Plan on buying soon. Thanks.

Anyway possible to share a basic list of pid nodes, or your pid list ? A pic of your editor.. your base setup would be great and/or an advanced version we could grow into. Purchased my MPVI3 the other day and shut off my DOD to start while i get my hard parts and performance parts. 2016 Camaro 2ss. Will be looking at the at the wideband and prolink if i need it soon. I notice as the different videos go on , yours change. Is there a 1 for all that can be used, so i /we dont have to try to figure out which to add etc.
Edit: I am guessing you have different setups (channels) you use for different tuning. Do you just have them saved as different channel configs or just change manually each time. Like this one is base/overall. the one you like to use for MAF tuning, etc etc. Would love to have a pdf or screenshots of each for reference. BTW love the tutorial they are a great help. Even if its old, theres alot of info,,, I think my brain is exploding..lol
Thank you so much 🥰

I have it on my 2004 Dodge Cummins, and after 5-15 minutes, it rolls in maximum timing meant for high boost, but in cruising mode. No help from HP, just them telling me to go to the forum...
I've been tuning for 30 years, and this is the first time I have had a company not help explain something in their own product, and just send me to a forum!
How unprofessional!
I want to start tuning. I have freshly built, boosted lq4 that I haven’t started up yet. Which hp tuners product would I need to buy? I know there’s a standard version and a pro version with extra wires. Which one would I need? I have an aem 30-0300 x series wideband too if that helps.
Just get the regular one, it's easy to upgrade to the pro features if you eventually need them but you don't need it to start, I have a video on using that wideband with the standard version.

Goat Rope Garage thanks! I’m gonna order the standard w/ 2 creds right now!
I just started tuning but I have no wide band yet. I have not messed with any air fuel till I get one. I took off a bunch of torque management but left some in the trans ( 4L60) I did get rid of the power enrichment limiters like RPM delay and ramp in. Throttle activation for PE is set at 40 percent throttle. I left the stock PE enrichment rate alone. Trucks drivability is MUCH better but stops pulling in 4th. The stock PE EQ ratio is commanding a 1.33 which equates to 11 to 1 AFR. That's seems awful rich and I think that might be why the truck is not pulling 4 gear but then again it pulls well in from 1st to 2nd 2nd to 3rd. Sloppy said the LS like a mid 12's AFR. Any idea what my problem maybe ? Might not have anything to do with fueling. I do need to data log yet but decided to ask any way lol....thanks
That is super rich on the PE, I would try shifting it down to 1.25 and see if your truck likes that. Just keep an eye on your knock table when you do to make sure that you don't have an issue on the WoT pulls.
you should explain PID
What can be the reason? At wot 0.85 lambda, which is okay and sometimes 1.00 commanded. Is an Lt1 gen5 engine. The mistake usually comes over 120mph! But not always! AEM is installed and confirms that. Tune is from the well-known tuner of the Lt1 engines. You have an idea?
All based on the PE enable qualifiers, have to meet certain requirements in order to command that extra fuel
Thank you so much bro
Subbed!! I'm wanting to learn. I have a Gen3 silverado 1500 5.3 and I'm wanting to start with the transmission. I assume the MPVi2 is what I need? If so, what else will I need to buy to get going? Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!
I wouldn’t tune the trans with the tuner. If its 4l60e. I would get a boost valve and servo.
Just getting started trying to learn how to tune. You say get a wideband. Is a tailpipe sniffer the same as a wideband? I assume it has to be close since professional tuners don't have a wideband on every car that comes through the shop. Hopefully this is not a dumb question lol there is a lot to learn.
I'm try to start on this I have no idea where to start, what set up to get I have my own mechanic shop, and I'm going to be building some clasic cars with a modern touch, get In contact with me if posible thanks
Hey! like your videos very informative, got I installed a mild cam on my 2004 silverado and I need to tune the idle and what else do you recommend to tune for towing trailers? Mean like maf or map, airflow, transmission point, trans fluid pressure ? I got hp tuner to work on.
thank in advance!
I would probably do the basics as they are going to give you the power you're looking for, as far as trans, I would pay attention to where the TC is locking up and just make sure your in a good zone there since an unlocked convertor creates a lot of heat even without a trailer
Great vid ! You just got a new sub!!! Just picked up a 01 WS6 and am ready to go down the rabbit hole. Was flippin back and forth between HP and Efi ... any advantages with going efi over hp ? Also will i need to go with the hp pro to be able to take full advantage of tuning and run a wide band O2 ? Just gonna do heads cam exhaust to start...really leaning to boost down the road. Great channel!!! Cant wait to learn as much as i can.
Man, I know what I like but that's a matter of opinion. You don't need the pro version, there are a few different options for bringing in a wideband, I used a serial to USB connection. Welcome to the garage!
I feel like I’m in a college class. And for once, I mean that in a good way.
Thanks for the videos, great content. I have learned a ton. I have a question about using widebands: Would it be possible to temporarily use the wideband in one of the factrory O2 spots for tuning purposes and then remove once happy with the tune?
I have a 2015 GMC Sierra 5.3, and I am currently just doing bolt on mods. I would like to use the wideband on buddy's vehicles, and so don't want to leave it hooked up to mine.
Thanks again
@Christopher Hubbard >As a dealer tech from the single wire O2, to 4 wire O2 sensors and now wide band. I cannot answer your exact question but they have differences regarding the sensors activity. While a heated O2 sensor heats up, once it starts moving above or below 0.5 Vdc, then the PCM changes from “Speed Density” function changes to active MAF mixture ratio feedback. A broad band O2 sensor is smaller mass, shaped like a pop-cycle sticks and heats up quicker. The main difference is the broadband signals how lean or rich and recognized by the PCM will make very minor adjustments. So, closer to very accurate air fuel injector adjustments. The Ziconia non broad band only swings it’s rich / lean signal as it passes a PCM programmed air / fuel signal. Regardless, the broad bands signal is recognized by software and not the type of sensor. If I am wrong, this is how GM taught us. To increase fuel economy while running well, if you swap them with the correct connectors that fit, I truly believe that very little difference will be noticed unless the PCM is able to recognize and react in a positive manner. Hope this helps and remember, the heater circuit is on with the key.
Around 2014 ish it seems Chevrolet went with a different tune on 6l80s to bring the torque on in low gears. Could you perhaps shed some light on that in a video? I would love to see how that is changed.
I’m interested in diesel tuning specifically German diesel. Do you have insight on that?
What program will let me tune my 97 f250hd with the 7.3 powerstroke? It’s diesel so I’m sure needs different program than a gas engine. No spark plugs. All injector timing
New to your channel and going to have a channel night with your tuning and other thing for my 2000 sierra ls2 truck running a maf and possible doing the sd only
Do you offer remote tuning assistance? I may have a challange if you accept. I Have a twin 88mm s10 with a large displacement fully built sbc monster I could use help with. The low RPM stuff is tricky at best with its 108mm throttle body and large injectors combined with ridiculous cam that doesn't allow hardly any vacuum.
I saw that for I use HPTuner I need to buy credits for the ECU I want tune, but after I buy the credits and get the ecu licensed can I modify the parameters many times I want? or I have to buy credits every time I want to make changes?
Once you license a vehicle, you can reflash as many times as you want. You simply purchase credits for the vehicles you want to tune. Also, you can use the MPVI device and software to download the tune from a vehicle to look at it, but you cannot make a change or reflash it back to the vehicle unless you have licensed it. Also, you don't have to buy credits to scan vehicles.
Hello. I am finding your tutorials very helpful for a newbie. What I haven't seen yet is a tutorial on reading and writing to the control modules using HP tuner hardware. A detailed step by step would be helpful. I have a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3. Is there a link I can follow that has the instructions? Thanks.
luv the standard cab short box trucks, they are becoming harder and harder to find, as GM seems to think we all want 4 door trucks
Yeah, it's such a good look
What all do I need to buy to get started and how much will it cost? And is there ever unlimited credits?
