I had dinner with my son this past summer at Mick Fleetwood’s restaurant in Lahaina, Maui HI (sadly taken by the recent tragic fire). Each evening on the rooftop dining area, a hefty Scotsman in full traditional garb (large sporran included) would come out at sunset to play bagpipes and talk about the Scottish heritage of the island and Mr. Fleetwood. Great evening! Of course I couldn’t help but think of this channel, as sporrans are not something we Americans see very often- let alone a couple thousand miles out in the Pacific. PS - Many thanks, Stewart, for another gem! PPS - I have tickets for an acoustic evening with Martin Barre on Halloween night - so stoked!
I’m giving a shoutout to the Snooze Doctor for recommending your channel for us Tull lovers!! So nice to be surrounded by “ my people “ ( lol)!!! Kidding aside , beautifully done! ✌️♥️
Hello Stewart Certainly did enjoy it! What a great cover! The Stormwatch album is a big favourite of mine, being played either whole or in part, very regularly. I’m away in the north west of Scotland next week so your video is in perfect timing 🤓 Thank you so much, Sir 💥 Kind regards James
Excellent as always. Warm Sporran is actually one of my favourites. It has one of the most heady, dizzying flute bits ever in it. I am amazed how you are able to cram all those different instruments into one guitar. Awesome!
thanks! such a great song. I was excited to hear Tull was going to play it on the recent tour having never heard it live, but it was removed from the setlist.
Am I wrong, but I think they never played it live before this tour? I never thought about Ian playing funky bass before you mentioned it! I hope someone has a live Tull version on you tube. Yours is impeccable!
I’ve always loved this song, and your reimagining of the song is fantastic. There was some kind of sports show here in the US that used the iconic bass line from this as background music, but I cannot remember what it was. It was one of the major networks (ABC, CBS, or NBC) since it was long before any streaming services and they used it right before going to a commercial.
Thanks as ever Paul. Would love to find out what the show was! A British children’s TV show in the mid 1980s used Ian’s solo song “User Friendly” as its outro music over the credits, but I’ve also never been able to remember what it was called.
This is an amazing cover. I get quite a bit of joy from your covers! Thanks for posting these - keep up the great work! I appreciate you! I also apprectiate your breakdown of it, as well. Thank you, Stewart!
Another stellar performance Stewart! I always think the Tull instrumentals are much more demanding to play than the lyrical pieces and you obviously have no issue mastering them. The great thing about Anderson's writing is that there can be so much to talk about afterwards in describing the complexity of the songs. On a side note, I saw Martin play last Friday at Westbury, Long Island and what a super show filled with what Martin described as songs that he has a personal connection with. "Deep depth" in the catalog, many songs which "might" have been played during that particular tour but maybe not as well. I wish we had some of those setlists during the annual Tull tours in the past. I remember Martin saying one time that he wished they had played some more of those great, obscure pieces during Tull's touring but the other band members were reluctant. Sitting in the 6th row last Friday, I was waiting for Martin to introduce you to jump in to complement his playing, but I guess you had prior commitments!
Great to hear! Was it the band or his acoustic show? I have the option to see either (or both) a reasonable drive from my Virginia home later this month. Just watched a fantastic concert (youtube) that he and his band did in Sellersville, PA last year and decided I’d try to catch him there next time around, which turns out to have been a few days ago 😤! Luckily he’s coming to my neck of the woods - one show in a theater with the band, one in a small restaurant/music hall with Dan Crisp (vocalist) and the band’s bassist - audience involvement encouraged! Yeah… just talked myself into seeing both.
@@billryan6024 Ha! Okay, thanks. Just got tickets for the acoustic show (Richmond, VA, one hour drive). Pondering the electric show two nights before which is a 2.5 hour drive in a small performance hall in a small town near Roanoke... WTH, I am retired and never got to do this when I was so busy with life... I think I'm doing both!
Very good! Great voice and guitar performance. It make us feel in 1974.
Good to hear this and another from 'Stormwatch' played - 'Dark Ages' - on the most recent Tull UK tour (April 2024). Excellent job as always Stewart!
Virtuosity! It is great that you are giving new life to these wonderful Ian Anderson compositions.
Stormwatch has long been one of my favorite Tull albums and I feel like it doesn’t get the love it deserves very often. Kudos!
You can't blame anyone with the sheer brilliance that came before it, great album though
This is truly exquisitely marvelous!

Thanks Sir. Wonderfull.
Wonderful cover of a wonderful tune….amazing
A great cover, pure joy! Thank you
Nice! Nothing like a campfire and Warm Sporran playing.
Great, great job Stewart! This is true love for JT!
One of the most Scottish sounding Tull songs i think .
Great stuff as usual
I don't remember the credits for this one, but I've always thought I could see Palmer's fingerprints on it.
Браво, Стюарт! Браво, Стюарт! Браво, Стюарт!
one of my favourites from stormwatch, great cover:)
Such a blessing for me hearing from you dear Stewart!
man, you are secretly absolute monster of a player.
As a life long Tull fan, I really enjoy your take on the music! To a point where I enjoy your covers more than originals!
Ditto!

What I find interesting is that the same "heyy-heyy" that appears in this song also appears in the interlude of Pibroch!
Yew you're absolutely right.

I love this song, thank you so much for the cover and the analysis ! I'll try it on my guitar one day ;)

@@billryan6024 Thats good to hear, as I am taking the wife to the distant show as well!
Love this!
I like the way that you distill the different parts into one complex narrative. This one looks hard but fun to play!
Thank you, hard but fun is exactly right
Great, great job, Stewart! 👍
Luck! Way cool, red head boy.
