    I always comment to my friends (much to their dismay) that I think the second half of passion play is definitely the high watermark of the progressive rock movement or concept albums in general. It’s really Jethro Tull at the height of their powers. The band is just so tight, and operating in such an incredibly high-level. As ever thank you for the performance and for your insights.

    Like so many great natural musicians--Frank Sinatra, Paul McCartney, Erroll Garner, Taylor Swift--Ian Anderson doesn't read music. All done by ear and inspiration. Very cool.

    Thank you very much (as always) for this inspired rendition. This is such a complex piece of music to render just with acoustic guitar and vocals, but you nailed it. "A Passion Play" was not one of my favourite albums when I discovered Jethro Tull back in the late '80s; but it has become one of my top 5 after my mid 30's. Probably you have to be a bit more mature to understand it. Now I like it even more than "Thick as a Brick".

    I for one would love to hear Stewarts original music.
    With his ability to play these complex Tull songs I have no doubt his own music would reflect that.

    Thant gave me chills. This was undoubtedly Ian's greatest composition ever. He has to leave it up to folks like you Stuart to fight and claw for every note because IAN IS AN ELITIST SNOB and WON'T put his music into notation so that the world can play and enjoy this prolific music. How excellent it would be if the local high school, college and symphony orchestra had access to Ian Anderson's music. Shame on you Ian for being so damn selfish. Yes you WERE an enigma performer, in fact , without a doubt, the GREATEST ROCK PERFORMER OF ALL TIME! Please talk to Dee Palmer and get Dee to ask him to relent and put his damn music down on paper. And not some wannabe rendition, but JUST LIKE THE RECORDING. Please Ian, don't leave this world with your music. Share it with the world!

    Thanks Stewart.I have enjoyed this more than the album to be frank. It’s my least favourite of the Tull catalogue. I have heard Ian being a bit disparaging about it as well. Not in his top shelf Tull, and i always wondered why. Would you say it’s due to the issues you mentioned on the first side? Complexity getting in the way of itself.

    • @DailySporran
      @DailySporran  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Kevin, that is very kind. I worked it out one morning a couple of weeks ago, and then played it through 2-3 times a day: initially playing along with the track to make sure I get the chords, individual parts & timing right, and then on my own so that I can get some of my own "voice" into the rendition. That's basically what I do with all of the songs. Some are harder than others.
