- Daily Sporran no.88: My cover version of the song that has come to be known as “Wond’ring Aloud, Again”, originally recorded by Jethro Tull at London’s Morgan Studios in June 1970. The song was later that year split into two parts: “Wond’ring Aloud”, re-recorded for the “Aqualung” album, and “Wond’ring Again” which was put on the 1972 compilation album “Living In The Past”. Written by Ian Anderson.
Song starts at 2:12.

Not sure how I ended up down the rabbit hole of listening to Wond'ring Aloud covers on RUclips, but I'm glad I did because I thoroughly enjoyed yours, thank you.
Thanks David. Hope you enjoy listening to some of the other Tull songs I've done too
Me too
One of my favorite Jethro Tull songs, and you did it so well. Thank you, I love all your versions of Jethro Tull. I go back and listen to them over, and over. I heard this one when you originally recorded it, but I'm listening to it again now. It seems like it's even better thanks again.
I was learning how to play it and then got high and started listening to covers and then I'm like oh there are others lol
Beautiful song, I just found your channel and I’m enjoying it. Congratulations, you have the best covers of my favorite band.
The Jethro Tull music that continuously reverberates through our lives! What a gift!
Brilliant rendition thank you brought back fond memories of 1971 Paul from Brittany France ❤
This was my song in 1971-72. So beautiful... captivating ! I was 14 in 1971 when I fell in love with this band ! Cheers.. listening now.✌️
The same for me! I love Jethro Tull so much.
Thanks for getting back to me.. You must be busy ! @@annep5861
This song breaks my heart every time! Even when I first heard it in the 80s, it tugged at me even then with nostalgia.
Thank you. I’ve seen Tull in concert numerous times. Awesome 🪈
Ian doesn't make it easy on his acoustic pieces, does he:)
You did it's justice, heavy song, 50 years heavy. Thank you
That Andersen fellow is a genius, period!
88 songs... quite a gift to the rest of us... thanks, Stew
"And it's only the giving
That makes you what you are"
And you gave us a lot, Mr. Stewart Wood. From Italy (yes, I'm "Itullian"...!), thank you so much.
Excellence, by both you and Mr. Anderson.
Hello. I keep watching. You sir. Very talented. But I see its driven by love
That was amazing.. Thanks Stewart !
I’m loving this version so much right now, glad I found you, this band is in my heart and soul, been listening for 50 years ❤️❤️❤️Saw them perform about 4 years ago in LA, living in Tennessee now, still listening Every day to Jethro Tull and the like ❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank you Stewart. A lovely and thrilling rendition, somewhat emotional. Both the beauty of the song and the fact my daily interaction with the Daily Sporran has come to a close. Sincere thanks. It was wonderful waking up here in Australia to such inspiring and entertaining performances. I, too, was introduced to Tull at around 15 years of age. (By my Brother in law to be). It also took me 3 listens. My initiation was with Living in the Past. They’ve been with me ever since. Bravo to the brilliant Ian Anderson, and bravo to the brilliant Stewart Wood. Hope we see both of you again some time. Cheerio.
I have just listened to this last song - one of the first I every learnt over 30 years back. I also was/am a very keen 'Tull fan esp' as a teenager in the late 80's. And I am inspired to start playing again after about 20 years - Thankyou - You have done the music proud. Now to listen to the rest of it as only heard your last two..
"Capo 3, D is the Ian Anderson chord."
Thanks for that gift and sharing your talent with us.
Wow ...what a version 🤔🎸
Thank You Mr. Wood... Now we surely have heard "Songs from the Wood". I really hope that isn't the last we will be hearing from you,
Thank you, I’ve done nearly 50 more since this last one from the daily uploads. You can see the full list here: www.youtube.com/@DailySporran
“Thank you” feels like slight compensation for the uplifting you’ve brought each day. You made a difference in my life throughout this frightening time, and your wonderful renderings of Tull tunes has deepened my appreciation for Ian and the band. I hope to hear more of your music one day. All the best!
Exactly.
Awesome
Beautiful job Stewart, thank you! June 30, 1973, "A Passion Play" in Syracuse NY was my very first live concert at age 18; BLEW my mind; huge fan since first hearing "Stand Up" in 1969.
I've played this for years at folk clubs etc. So today I played along with you Stewart...I have to say it sounded bloody awesome, and gave me goosebumps! Thank you!
Greetings from Germany. I'm 70 Years old and I love JT.❤
You play this Song very good. Thank you for that.
Wow, I see you have quite a number of Jethro Tull tunes. Play on man. 🎶🎶🎸👏👏👏
Have enjoyed this series so much and it made me revisit some of my old vinyl as well as songs I haven’t listened to for more than 30 years. For me the highlight of the repertoire is and always will be the Passion Play, but I loved every one of your interpretations, including some of the songs that I had never heard before. You also managed to underline what a musical genius Ian Anderson is. Just epic!
Tull was initially planning to release a double album. They went to France to record it, but somehow things turned out badly and Anderson scrapped the entire album. He went back and rewrote what became a Passion Play. But they finally released the songs that had been slated for the double album years later. Had they released those songs instead of A Passion Play Tull would have been catapulted into major stardom. Instead A Passion Play bombed commercially and they went downhill after that. And I also learned that Anderson had considered making a movie to accompany the album but scrapped that too. I think that was the reason they had a theater booklet inside of A Passion Play. While Warchild, Minstrel, and Stormwatch had a few good songs overall they never achieved what they had put out in the rejected double album! Now sadly Anderson's voice is totally shot and the 75 year old has virtually no energy or stage presence left! .
Awesome mate
This song has to be the ultimate campfire song. Perfect story, lovely chords, and if you have a nice voice like yours, you and your fellow campers are set!
Jethro Tull is the music my brother and I skateboarded to, speakers out the bedroom window up and the ramp at the end of the back patio thump, thump, thump, over the cracks up the plywood and back again
Very well done, sir. I've been listening to Ian's music since the National Jazz and Blues Festival at Sunbury in 1968. When disaster strikes or gray clouds cover the sun I turn to Jethro Tull to get me through. I've been stumbling through his riffs and chord changes for a half century. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you very much. You mean you were at Sunbury in 1968?? Wow! Do you have any memories or photos of it?
@@DailySporran Sadly, I was not at the festival but I was given a reel to reel tape of parts of it by a friend who was working for a music producer. I had it converted to a 4 track (!) and wore it out in my car listening to it. I was very fortunate to meet Ian at a very small house concert in San Francisco that he and the band did as a fundraiser for wild cats a few years ago, on their day off from performing in concert. Ian wandered through the crowd talking to people, shaking hands, talking about his music and being so incredibly humble. There were only 100 tickets sold. It was an unforgettable evening.
Bravo. You really come into your own when there are emotions and causes dear to us all
Grazie per queste bellissime canzoni che ci dai.
Brilliant, authentic and sweetly reproduced, thanks for all the sporans, they have been so memorable, thank you and thanks to Ian and his bands of merry men
Positively brilliant performance, Stewart. You certainly ended on the highest note possible (Capo three, suspended D chord!) Thank you.
Great job on a great song. 🎵 Thank you.
Such a beautiful song played extremely well. Thank you for giving me back a memory.
I am a very proud son.
P.S. Bin the shirt. Now.
LOL!!!!!! I Like the shirt!
You should be a proud son. That was fantastic. About the shirt. You'll wish you had it in 20 - 30 years. Although, you will be able to buy one at that time.
But his mum bought him that shirt!
Whaaaat?!??! Shirt's killer!!!
This one is how I discovered your Daily Sporran series; it's not a coincidence, because you're performing my favorite tune by this composer. I don't play, but I can hum along snippets of a bass harmony with this one to fill it out. Thanks for choosing the good ones for your playing, and for your song. I like to think this one will be played for decades and scores of years more, at least until the charabanc ride drops me off at my final destination.
Hey Stuart, well done on this massive effort, I've watched and enjoyed all of them. I first discovered JT when I was maybe 13 and they were the soundtrack to growing up in a small village on Dartmoor, and have been my go to band ever since. Watching your videos each day has been really great and made me appreciate (again) how intricate, crafted and nuanced IAs songs are, a real joy. You've also inspired me to pick up my guitar again and learn some. So a really big thank you for doing this, you showcased all the ones I love the most and some I've rediscovered. It's defo helped me through lockdown. Great work mate.
You're videos are really good. They inspire me to play again. Thank you very much!
Never ever stop! Thank you.
Incredibly beautiful - thank you so much!!! And it's only the giving that makes what you are...
Your energy, commitment, and focus, are truly beautiful to behold. The flesh proclaims it is a joy to hear! I hear, like Mozart composes, your commitment through your performance. I can scarcely say thanks! ❤️
Excellent version! (`off toast as the butter runs` - my favourite lyric of all time).
I was so pumped when this came out on the Aqualung 40th Anniversary set. And now having this excellent version is like two cherries on top of double icing!
PS - Lovely, massively deserved, tribute to the band and Mr. Anderson. Thank you both for making this earth more enjoyable place to be.
Thank you! Love your entire series of presenting the genius of Ian Anderson.
Thank you for introducing me to the long version of this song. I've always loved the version on Aqualung. You did a magnificent jog of paying and singing.
Super cover! LOve your loose wrist right-hand action and crisp fretting. Good stuff!
There are lot of things I want to say. Firstly one needs a lot of courage to attempt a Tull song. Secondly, this is very special to me as it is one of my many favourite songs from one of the greatest bands. Thirdly, your voice suits Ian’s so much and you captured all the finer nuances in the song. Wonderful ! Maybe you can try a Moody Blues or Al Stewart or Jim Croce or Gordon Lightfoot song. They too are my favourites.
You did such a great job here Stewart. Thanks a lot.
thanks for the daily company and for the passion and respect for the music of a great musician such as Ian Anderson and a unique band like Jethro Tull.
That was wonderfully done. Bravo!
You sing and play so well,,so much of feel you put into this song....love this😊
Love this long version
No no, thank you sir!
I am so blown away! Your guitar is so amazing! And your vocals are great! Ian would be so pleased !
Thanks so much Tonya
this is so wonderful to hear once again after all of these years, thank you so very much Stewart...
Stewart, miraculously your gave me something to really look forward to each day during this crisis. Yes, and as a Tull fan for 40 years, you gave me a new perspective to view them and re-treasure them (no not a real word!). Thank you so much.
Stewart, I can’t remember the last time I listened to this song. While I have seen a couple of your covers I’ve only just discovered the whole collection. Omg!
I, like you, arrived at JT in my formative years way back in the seventies and they have been my soundtrack to life ever since.
Apart from seeing the crowd at a JT gig I’ve always found it difficult to identify a proper Tull fan, so it’s great to see you here!
Keep up the great work, and I thank you.
Thank you very much. I hope you enjoy some of the others too
Muito bacana sua pegada meu irmão!
Mando bem demais ..adoro este som !
Valeu muito por fazer lembrar!!!
Saúde e sucessos p vc!!!
Absolutly brilliant, so much work, well done indeed.
A lovely song, a favourite of mine, thanks for this. Stay safe and sound Mr, Cheers from Brazil.
Lovely version of this song that I have not heard together, I'm very happy I picked your video. My name is Jethro because of this band and I wasn't very happy at my dad as a kid but I became a fan of Jethro Tull and can't live my life without it.
Your father must have been a big fan! Thanks for your kind comments.
Brilliant!! Amazing! Thank you so much!!!
Great stuff! 37 years ago I was a red head to! Well, maybe 49 or such.
Bleib gesund‼
Beautiful rendition of a beautiful song 👏
fantastic great playing and singing of this song, cheers
You are the Man! Thanks for all you've done to raise the spirits of Ian's fans everywhere. I've followed Tull since '69 (20+ concerts) and worked at playing many of their acoustic pieces with a close friend and flutist so I know personally how much work you've put in to this effort. I am humbled. Thanks.
Well....let me congratulate you. This is a superb cover of this wonderful jewel from our beloved Ian. I will try to copy, if you do not mind. Thanks for the inspiration you bring.
What a magnificent finale! Yes we have to thank Ian Anderson and the bands for making every song great but special thanks have to go out to you for taking the time out to share your great talents with us with your own interpretations and cool background stories to enlighten each day while playing these super renditions. No one can ever say nothing good came out of Covid-19 as bad as it has been for some of us. Your son's comment below was great too! Your performances were unparalleled. You don't have to worry about the mind but please be careful of the fingers (no pinching in car doors, etc.) which I hope are insured. I hope that we get to replay your entire library at our leisure when we need it for a very long time. I also hope you decide on an encore of considerable length at some point. I'll be watching for it. Thanks again! It was a privilege to be part of your audience.
That was awesome! Great job! My favorite Tull song!
Great job on this seldom-heard double song!
I'm 66 years old and a long-time admirer of JT in general but especially the music of EA. Thank you for this wonderful memory.
You've played this song superbly!
Thanks so much Alex. Much appreciated.
The quality of the lyrics by IA, is amazing. So many of his writings could be published as poetry. Stewart your love of JT made me so happy because I love and enjoy them as much as you do.
Thank you Stewart for the past 3 months of revisiting the amazing work of my first favorite band. You did an amazing job.
Thanks so much. What a wonderful rendition of this iconic tune. Must be a challenge doing the full version. The lyrics that reference environmental issues are still as pertinent as ever. The arrangement of the recording by Ian and David Palmer are amazing but I like hearing your "unplugged" version too and you certainly do it justice.
Absolutely LOVE this song.
Wow. Where have you been hiding? My new favorite subscription
that was great...keep on wondering stewart...thank you sir.
Excellent as always Stewart, thanks so much for these videos over the weeks. long live Ian Anderson !
I'm very lucky to have found you, for this amazing treatment of a couplet of treasured songs. I watch this whenever I'm home alone and drunk. And this is a grand compliment, I think (Heh).
Thank you so much
Excellent. Note for note; great vocals. A+

Merci beaucoup. C’est très gentil.
Lovely, thank you Stewart
Often re-listen to these covers with amazement, they are really enjoyable, and you have got Tull in your insides buddy
Thank you so much for all these great videos, I've watched and enjoyed every single one of them! It's a shame this was the last one as there are still so many great Tull/IA songs you haven't covered yet, but I keep my fingers crossed you will return some day and do more. Again, thank you!
Man, so good. Cheers
BRILLIANT!!
Very well done, Sir. Thanks!
Really good, it's the best JT cover I've heard.
Bravo!!! Man, I love Jethro Tull and found your channel today and I'm watching and listening to many of your videos. You are so good and passioned about the band! Congratulations and thank you for sharing so much! 🙌
A perfectly organic, heartfelt performance. Have been enjoying all your posts, but had to comment here.
Thanks so much Michael
A fitting and excellent end to this amazing journey we shared with you. Thank you, Stewart.
Bravo Vic, that was a great ending. Also, I'm with Luca on the shirt. X
