I have just acquired, thru a municipal surplus auction, a whacker model r270 ground pounder. It has a robin 2 stroke motor which I have eorked on and got it running. However, the unit ails to respond. Acceleration makes no difference. After a few times trying to get it to run, It killed the motor but failed to activate. I'm certain it needs a complete rebuild, but I have no idea what I'm getting into as far as cost. Any input would be appreciated.
Hi Gail, By killing the motor when you accelerate, does the engine sound like it's being overloaded or bogged down ? If so, it could just be a frozen bearing on the crank arm or similar. It may not be that bad. If you can send us the exact serial number we can get a diagram for you and go over a few thing on what to look for. Send to INFO@DHSEQUIPMENT.COM Thanks
I really appreciate your response and your efforts to assist me. The model is an R270, made by MBW, and the s.n. is 2716245. This was part of a lot of 7 items. There were also two vibratory plate compactors made by Mikasa Sangyo, model mvc88vghw. I haven't attempted to take any of the above items apart yet, but they will be next on my list. Thank you in advance.
Hy,David. Thanks for share your knowledge.I have a Bs 52 y and it makes some metalic sound at cranckshaft gear, sometimes it feels like it want to stop, and the engine is working hard. Can you give me some tips, advices? When I buy-it it the oil level was too much higher.
Hi Lulian, If once you have corrected the oil level ( too much oil and too thick of an oil will bog down the engine ) the problem persists I would be looking at the crank bearing, especially if you hear that metallic sound. If you supply me the s/n of the machine and your email I can send you a repair manual and parts diagram. Send it it david@dhsequipment.com . thanks
Sorry, I am not able to make these in Spanish, but if you need help, you can call us at 954-532-2142 or email us at Info@DHSequipment.com and one of our Spanish speaking reps can help you. Thank you
Hi Dave we have a Bomag BT65 1998 whacker with eratick jumping we have remove the 1st pring under pressure and the Bush fell out it was just floating about we have undone the bolt and removed the 2nd spring there is no 2nd Bush No debris or anything is this normal for this machine and how do you get the front housing off
Hi Dawn, There are several revisions for that model, do you have the complete serial number ? Send to david@dhsequipment.com and I will take a look. Thanks
Good work bro,I have a question my Ammann rammer pulls right i checked rubber handle etc but they are accurate boot is pretty good condition I can't understand what and where is problem.
Hi Dave, got a Wacker BS50-4s in my shop I can't figure out. Runs 80% great but then every now and then the jumping becomes erratic then recovers. Starts easy, runs good. The engine RPM does seem to lower when this happens mildly. It's like the tamping mildly slows then recovers. Very inconsistent. Sometimes it runs a good 20 minutes before jumping becomes erratic. I don't believe its the engine anymore but not sure where else to go with it
thanks for the great video dave. i was going to trash mine but now i think i will open it up to see whats wrong with it, i have a question for you, why do you have to put oil in these? thx
Hi Dave awhile back I contacted you about a Wacker 270 model I own that had been seized up. I have disassembled it and found it to have no oil in it but about a pint of water. I cleaned up all parts with intention of getting rid of any contaminated lubricants. But now that I am ready to install new bearings and re-assemble, I find no information on how.much grease I should use. While all internal parts had an ample supply of grease on them, including the springs, I find nothing in the service manual regarding lubrication except for the mention if adding 10 ounces of oil. What is the proper way to go about this? Gail Purves
Hi Dave. We have a Mikasa Rammer, it has erratic jumping. Initially we thought it was a carb problem so we replaced the carb, still did the same, put a brand new Honda GX 120 on and did the same. We adjusted the RPM to 3900 and still the same. What do you suggest we try?
Erratic jumping is usually caused by the upper and lower springs in the leg not wearing evenly. This could be caused by the stoppers wearing out early and allowing more compression in one set of springs vs the other.
Hi Dave have a question. Have a DS720 replaced springs, and bushings. Put a new clutch it starts runs but no jumping. Looked at new clutch was worn down. Should you be able to turn clutch barrel and move the ramming assy by hand?
Hello! No, if you are pulling the starter and it is engaging the clutch, the clutch must be resting on the drum. The cause of this could be a number of issues. Could be the wrong clutch, the wrong engine, the mounting is off, etc
Hi Philipp, Unfortunately I have no first hand knowledge of that one and because it is not a model sold in the U.S. I have no literature for it. If you can provide the s/n or machine # with item and rev # I can certainly request some diagrams. Thank you
Hey david, I have a big problem with a wm80 rammer. It starts cold in 2 pulls and runs good, also restarts when hot but if you let it sit for 5minutes it is impossible to start again untill it has cooled down completely. I have already replaced the crank seals, bearings, piston rings, new walbro carb, put a new champion spark plug, new fuel lines. I have checked everything and it is all in check. I have tried tunning the carb to a richer and leaner mix but it is all the same. Would really appreciate some advice! thank you
The mode is: BS60-2 the s/n is: 20107583. Primary compression holds perfect vaccum at 7inHg, i do not have a secondary compression tester but the cylinder has no visable marks and the compression feels strong when pulling. Also worth to note that although the rammer idles and does not die out the idle screw is almost completely tightened while normally it is at about half way i think.
Any way to get that compression ? It is pretty important. I don't want to send you down the wrong path. When compression is off, fuel is not pulled in correctly and carb adjustments usually get made to help and it winds up not helping. Also, please confirm that s/n and if possible also get the item & rev # from the tag. I could not pull up a diagram with that s/n. Email me at david@dhsequipment.com so I can get you some manuals. thanks
Hi, Sorry, I am not able to re do this in Spanish. You can call and ask for Ramon and he can help you in Spanish or you can email us at Info@DHSequipment.com and he will respond. Thank you
Hi, Does it continue to jump erratically at that point or does it go back to normal? If you slow it down then speed it up again does the same issue occur ? What model rammer is this? Thanks
Hi Kevin, send us an email with which machine you are needing the info on. We'll need the machine s/n , mach # item and rev# please. Info@dhsequipment.com . Thanks
You need to check a few things. engine rpm , condition of the clutch, level and type of oil in the percussion system. If all that is good, you may have some issues covered in this video. Let me know what you find. Thanks
Another great video Dave. Good to know the different ways to safely remove/replace the spring box cover.
Good job! I trying to fix bs600 wacker and iam learning with your videos thanks

I can't quite hear what size threaded rod you said at the beginning if anyone could type that out for me if appreciate that
The majority would be using an M8X1.25 , but I could not guarantee that is correct for all. You can pull one bolt to match up.
Hope that helps.

The only thing I can think of would be something shoe related. Worn or cracked.

Hi Dan,
Glad you liked the video. The oil lubricates the percussion system along with the bearings in the upper section.
Good luck.

the jumping gives very abnormal jumps as very long so to speak
the jumping makes very abnormal jumps and rises much of the ground
