I have to say that as someone on his 2nd (and last/permanent) colostomy, this was very interesting. I had no idea that complete discs had been cut out of my abdominal wall. Also explains the scar from the first one looking so strange compared to my straight incision scars. Thanks for the info.

is it necessary to fixate colostomy to rectus sheath before fix it to skin to minimize risk of prolapse??

Also it is advised to delay opening of ileostomy 2days to minimize peritoneal soiling

I am shocked they didn ´t fix it via "internal" suture (intestine wall (not mucosa) + fascia). Skin fixation is also necessary but it´s function is only supportive and sealing. The main "weight" is secured via internal sutures.

Using only the tegument for fixing the stomy is wrong, as the bowel can retract in peritoneal cavity

Así es, no se vió la fijación 1a . Deben ser 2 fijaciones , de lo contrario el intestino se regresará a cavidad, y ya sabemos que pasaría.

Hi. I'm having a Ileostomy in a few weeks. My surgeon explained my colon would be completely removed, with key hole surgery. Will he remove it, through the hole, were the stoma will be situated?

My colon ruptured September 2017, and I underwent emergency surgery. I awoke with a colostomy. My Surgeon stated that I had to have it for six months, so my colon could heal. March 2nd, 2018, I had a colostomy reversal surgery. It was successful. I’m doing great, except where my Stoma was, it feels a bit poofy in that area. It does not hurt, but when I sneeze or cough very hard, I have to hold myself there. I can sort of feel that area of my abdomen is weaker. My NP stated that if it continues to bother me, she wants me to have it checked out. It’s great that I don’t really cough or sneeze that much, ha. I’m getting another colonoscopy soon, so I’m sure it will get a really thorough checkup then. 😉

My mother had the ileostomy. My understanding is the colostomy. You can actually control and can actually be reversed. I’m not sure if the ileostomy can or not be interesting to know. It was not a great experience. I remember as a child having to help my mother, I could never learn to deal with the smell. It was so unlike a regular poop smell it was crazy, my understanding is because it’s all liquid. It doesn’t get absorbed yet, but my mother’s bag used to have problems it would pop off and this was like 20 now I hear that the bags have a way to deal with the gas now but it’s too bad they can’t do it so that the smell is gone I remember a nurse actually refusing to change my bed, her bag and my mother calling the house in tears. I’ve never forgotten that it’s so sad that even nurses will treat people terribly like this. >.

Do you have to loosen intestine away from messentary for a loop or an end colostomy / ileostomy

Hello, I had a loop temporary ileostomy done. I still have my large bowel and rectum. What I’m confused about you s my rectum disconnected like cut off from my large bowel?
Or is my rectum still connected to my large bowel. I have severe rectal dysfunction. I’ve lost the functionality in my rectum to use the bathroom so I will try. It was really hard to get out and it cost a lot of pain so I asked to get it done as I thought,
But not pooping are passing Pasco stop the pain but I didn’t. I had a horrendous, rectal pain and spasms knife cutting spasms. Menes as I was so out of my sphincter. Muscles are only store. I literally feel like I’m being left to die I can’t live a life like this, and there is no solution this is it I don’t want to die but this pain doesn’t stop us from morning till night. I’m producing mucus but I have a right on that doesn’t work so I can’t push it out when I say pain is extensive it goes all over my lower back, my bum cheeks shooting pain in my rectum knife cutting pain. The last 18 months of my life has been around as an agonizing pain, the pain even goes into my glutes and feels like I pulled a muscle. I haven’t left my apartment 18 months other than to ❤ throughout the pain is so bad I can’t concentrate I want anyone says I’ve been emailing Riley Rectal doctor to see if my rectum can be removed in my large bottle to see if it might help the pain.
Where I’m from and the books wrecked disfunction is just a blank page. There is of action and biofeedback for therapy and Botox. i’ve done it all. I live in Canada probably would explain it pretty sure I’m the only woman in my province has had it this bad and I think there’s more test station too but I’m not a doctor. I’ve been to the ER three times last week I wish I lived in the US because I know I would get a caring need help I need a note for me I live at quality of life
With no pain or minimal pain. I wish there was a mayo clinic in Canada but there isn’t and I know Mayo Clinic do you like to remove all alarms bowel! The nurse couldn’t believe that I had an ileostomy with a function of a rectum that does not work I can’t even get out the mucus set of pressure and driving that and not being able to get it out. It is extremely hard and the severity of pain I wish I felt like I was being better taken care of. I wish I had the money to get to the states or someone to do some pro bono work to try and save my life. I can’t live my life like this for the rest of it. I always have to ask for everything I’ve ever gotten done. I’ve never gotten suggestions from particular doctors pertaining to this issue. And I want to live, but I won’t live like this. I go through the dying assistance down here. I’m just 47 too young kids but I’m bedridden. Oh my God the rectal pain nonstop. It is so bad I can’t function. I feel like I can’t breathe. It’s not a big deal, what is it to me? I just wish I had the money to go to the state so I could live because I’m not gonna live living here. I’m not being assessed properly I know that I’m not oh my God this pain is taking my breath away and it’s been like this for 18 months straight. That ileostomy did nothing but I can’t fix rectal dysfunction, and I knew that was just hoping it would help I can’t bear the pain a year and a half straight through. I’m not even talking about the year and eight months prior to it. I wish someone could help me so I get could live

Suturing peritoneum with bowel secures bowel in position. Creating a collar, creates nippled stoma. Stitches at dermis, rather than at skin, will avoid ugly scar marks.

The one used in the video is most likely that of a deceased animal, therefore your stoma should NOT look exactly like that. Don't fret! Stomas come in many different sizes.

You should fix first the colon or ileum first with four to five sutures with rectus sheet then will skin. Any kind of skin infection can cause its prolapse if not fixed properly.
