For me, Simone takes it because even more importantly than her landing being more controlled: her block off the table is so much greater than his is. It's the same as the Maroney/Uchimura comparison from 2012. The WAG's vault table is *LOWER* than the MAG's table is, so for a woman who is also shorter herself and who has much less muscle mass in her upper body to make contact with the vaulting table at a lower height and *STILL* generate the power necessary to overtake the male gymnast's altitude in the same skill is *incredibly* impressive. Simone's block, flight, and landing were better (same as Maroney's vs Uchimura's in 2012), so for me- it's a very easy, very clear winner in the side-by-side.
@eventhoughimaloserandavirg3279 The difference in force due to gravity would be negligible, comparable to the difference in gravitational force acting on each of them when they do a standing back tuck. To say doing that is harder for the guy would be stupid. The force of gravity acting on them is exactly the same (9.8 m/s²), the only difference is their body mass and the starting point of descent to the mat (and Simone's was slighter higher, adding to the length of acceleration downward). Besides, even if that were a significant difference, Paul also has more overall muscle mass and larger bones to absorb and brace for the impact- he *should* be able to handle it better, the same way a German Shepherd would handle jumping from a ledge 5 feet in the air better than a Chihuahua. Nobody with common sense would say it was harder for the German Shepherd to land it.
Not a fair comparison since in MAG low chest landings are not deductions, unlike in WAG. Men have much more mass in their chests compared to women so their centre of gravity is higher up the torso, making a low chest landing much harder to avoid and the COP accomodates that. Yurchenko entry vaults are also rare in MAG as most men go for Tsuk entries which better utilize their upper body strength
@@liukin95 I think the point of the video, regardless of how hard it is between sexes and their differences, is to compare the SKILLS and how they are executed. Side-by-side Simone has clear advantages to Paul, in my opinion.
BILES: more height (even though the vault table is literally lower than the men's vault), more distance away from the horse, better chest position, slightly more controlled landing. Couple things that Duda handles better: better pre flight from the springboard to the vault table ( no leg separation ) and has a centered landing, both awesome but on this vault, biles is better.
Biles had more height and a higher chest position upon landing. Juda has no pre-flight leg separation and is center on the landing mat. Both are great tbh.

@@TxHoneyBeewhen did I ever say she’s not the best of WAG? I’m pointing out the fact that diehard Simone fans literally think her gymnastics has no flaws, and that’s simply not true…now go cry to your daddy about it kiddo, later✌🏽
I don't know one male gymnast that lands with their chest up. They aren't deducted for that like the women simply because men carry more mass in their upper body, it's harder for them to land with the chest upright.
@@liukin95 there's no deduction for chest position, but they still have to extend prior to landing. They're allowed to dip their chest to absorb, but they have to open up prior to hitting the mat. Otherwise they can lose up to .3 on vault. He didn't appear to open up at all prior to landing so internationally, they might be inclined to take the .3. Also, because a lot of people get confused on the matter, WAGs do not have to land upright, they simply have to land with the chest/face above hip level to avoid deduction. They're also required to land with their shoulders and knees in line for even distribution of impact.
Simone was definitely more controlled. Yeah, she had a big step, but she didn’t need her arms out to stop herself from falling, so she did it better. In the air they both executed it the same.
That one is pretty close between the two of them as they both took a fairly big step back to the right. Simone Biles looked a little more controlled on the landing so if I was giving the execution score Simone Biles - 9.7 and Paul Juda - 9.4 as another person said Simone had a near flawless vault in warm-ups that as close as possible to a perfect execution of the Yurchenko Double Pike Vault as I could imagine. Simone Biles is truly an amazing athlete that is pushing the sport of women's gymnastics to new heights, even now seeing a number of the elite athletes in Women's Artistic Gymnastics are actually women in college through their mid-twenties instead of previous though of women artistic gymnast were at their peak at 16 years old. Good to see the sport advancing for the better.
Both have good pop off the table, good form in the air. Simone’s landing was more controlled. The dude needs to bend his knees a bit when landing. He’s landing with straight legs which is bad for your knees and back. Simone lands with knees bent which loads her legs, and not her back and knees.
I saw their execution scores (these vaults have different difficulty scores in M vs W). Simone earned a 9.6 and Paul a 9.3. This does not include any neutral deductions.
Hey, I was pretty close with my non-gymnastics estimated execution scores of 9.7 for Simone Biles to 9.4 for Paul Juda. Nice, I must be paying attention after watching the sport for a long time, having a high degree of appreciation of the difficulty of the skills from a Biomechanics stand point as an Exercise Scientist and Biomechanical Engineer. I have even tried to do some men's gymnastics exercises in my own training session such on the rings an Iron Cross, Front Lever and Back Lever, and hand stands on the parellel bars even being elite track and field sprinter and fitness trainer/strength and conditioning coach they were extremely challenging taking many attempts to perform with minimal to moderate technical success. I have a lot of respect for the athletes in the sport of artistic gymnastics as they level of physical athletic ability and body control as truly amazing.
Simone’s block is better for the lower table, Jude’s legs arguably look straighter in the pike shape but he flexes his feet earlier/more noticeably than Simone and his landings are worse. I understand what the MAG brigade were trying to do, but this vault wasn’t comparable to Simone’s and it’s actually detrimental to their argument. His vault was beautiful, but not good enough to try and put Simone down in the process…
His legs are farther apart than hers on the landing. As far as execution I didn't notice much difference in the air but these flips are so fast I don't know. Simone because of the landing. Even at half speed, they look about the same; hers looks like it gets more height but that could also be because she's smaller it just looks that way.
Let's just start with the fact that we are comparing a man to a woman in such a physically demanding sport. This just shows the levels Simone has surpassed. And on top of that, hers is cleaner. So boom 🤷🏾♂️
In the absence of a slow motion clip, the major impression I got was that Someone's step after landing was not as large (both stepped out of bounds and had 3/10 deductions for the step itself). I may be slightly biased, but I have to give it to Simone for overall impression. The clips were beautifully synchronized though.
Its one of the hardest skills to do so they both are extremely talented athletes no matter what but going off of form and landing simone definitely takes the cake.
Biles. No one should try to minimize the hard work this young lady puts in. This is the only athlete thus far that continues to compete against her former performances.
They were very very similar. His chest is much lower, with slightly wider step, but he was more centered. She had slightly better control. I think Simone edged him out in execution by no more than 0.2 because he was pretty much bent at 90 degrees on landing.
@benbailey159bb Even at half speed, looks like she's closer to 45 ° to me and looks like he ready to take a poo. 😁. Just kidding. I'd mark her for -0.1 and hit him with -0.3. but it's all subjective, I suppose. In real time, they are comparable.
They’re also valued differently-16.6 for the women, 15.6 for men, if I recall correctly. Plus Simone had a 0.6 neutral deduction for her coach being on the mat. I agree with you otherwise-they’re both mind blowing vaults!
