Yes she sounds so natural here, it’s just like her voice from MBT, everything flowed naturally, no pushing, or very little pushing and straining, and it SHINES. Daydream era tried so hard to lift her range up I think to match Whitney and Celine as they were the top 3 vocalists at the same time then, but we know what happened when she did that, her voice couldn’t handle it with nodules so we got the butterfly tone, which again is very similar to this and MBT. It suggests to me this is her natural tone and range. I’m certain if she would stop trying to push her voice up she would get a lot of her natural stamina and consistency back vocally. Now she tries too hard to sing light instead of with her natural heavy voice. It works against her imo.
Do you guys think current Mariah could redo this song? If you listen for the key, it’s not that high, and most of the belts are mid belts rather than upper belts. I feel if she lowered the key down a semitone she could do it, and just do something different with the climax.
