- I recently taught a private class for two adorable little girls and all they wanted to know was how to make a unicorn cake! I was so impressed with their skills! Now you can learn how to make a pretty unicorn cake with sparkly gold horn and rainbow cake inside too!

Rainbow Cake Ingredients ►
12 oz cake flour
12 oz granulated sugar
1 tsp salt
1 Tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
5 oz egg whites (room temperature)
4 oz vegetable oil
10 oz buttermilk (room temperature or slightly warm)
6 oz butter (unsalted and softened)
2 tsp vanilla
Easy Buttercream ►
8 oz pasteurized egg whites
32 oz unsalted butter (softened to room temp- not melted)
32 oz powdered sugar (sifted)
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
1 tsp salt

Great tutorial. Like the way you used the colours for the icing. How did you make the cakes . ..? Can you use Icing Colours from Wilton. Colourants.

Haven't gone through all the comments, but any tips on the line indents when you stop the bench scraper? So far I've tried wac and parchment paper and Viva and they all pull away with more lines....

Yes totally safe, they are pasteurized (just like milk)
How can i your version of buttercream for a cake or cupcakes outside in the midwest summer
All butter will melt if in direct heat for too long :)
Here in Australia it's always a million degrees in summer. I have found if I substitute some shortening for some of the butter, the buttercream will hold up in summer. Sometimes I do half & half, other times I just omit a quarter of the butter & replace with shortening. It also helps cut down on some of the sweetness. Hope this helps💁♀️

I wish the dollar tree here sold bench scrapers. A few years ago I did a unicorn cake using your suggested modeling chocolate dipped for a marbled unicorn horn. Thanks Liz.

Help! I made your buttercream it was delicious but......I did a crumb coat and put my cake in the fridge and put my buttercream in the fridge to finish in the morning...then I took the buttercream out to come to room temperature it started turning yellow...I gave it a whip in my mixer with a paddle attachment till it was fluffy again and started doing my final coat on my cake and it turn very yellow...what did I do wrong and how do I avoid this??
Amanda L buttercream has a slight yellow tint to it from the butter. So perhaps you used a more yellow-y butter? You can fix this by adding a tiny drop of purple food coloring to counteract the yellow. That will make it whiter.
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply...I think the cake was soo cold that it solidified the butter in the frosting as I put it on....word to the new bakers out there dont try to frost a cold cake??

I know it's been a while since you commented, but did you see where to get the eyes? If you click the Get the Full Tutorial link once you get down to the eyes section a pop up comes up and if you enter you info she will email the template to you. I think they are just My little pony eyes though.
Ok so the idea of cutting the dents to recover with frosting was genius. When I stack my cakes uneven at home and that happens I just say “ok Naked cake”. Haha. Good thing my cakes are just for my family to enjoy.
